Stopped by this little bakery on my way back from the bike shop. I didn't realize until after I started ordering that it was cash only. I told the lady, I believe the owner, that I would come back another time and make sure I brought cash. She told me to just pay her next time. I had ordered almost $20 worth of bread and based goods. While driving back from a hike at Rockville Park, I spotted a sign for organic fresh bread and decided to stop. What a lovely surprise! This charming little store is warm and inviting, and the woman behind the counter--was incredibly kind. I picked up a loaf of bread for $6.75, which is very expensive. Acme bread doesn't sell their famous organic sourdough for that price. Nevertheless, I bought one to try. I would say overall no flavor (perhaps they can add a little salt or something). As for the cookies and other baked goods, none appeared to be plant-based, so I was unable to try any. Also a heads-up for those with dietary preferences. The store is small & cluttered with random stuff...taffy & honey & kitsch. We felt super awkward, we were the only ones there on a Saturday, so we bought some cookies. They were just...dry & boring. CASH Only [Fairfield CA] We took a little detour and stopped by this small bakery located in a rural area in Fairfield. We drove in and parked on a private lot and was met by a crowing rooster and a bunch of geese (they were on the other side of the fence). Most bakeries I've been to open early but this one opened at 9:30a. We were there at 9:45a. Inside are shelves full of homemade merchandise from honey spoons and stirrers to jars of jams. We also found a tub of sea salt caramel and a small selection of salt water taffy and Crazy Pop Straws.. Towards the back of the bakery are the baked good -- custom cakes, homemade cookies, pies, and muffins. We purchased a couple of chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were crispy, crackly, buttery and not soft and chewy like what I expected. It was still good, just not my preference. The Nicest Lady! While on my way to Fairfield to visit my ailing mother at North Bay Hospital, I stopped by the bakery on a whim and walked into one of the most welcoming, homiest stores I've ever been in. Having never been there before, I didn't know they were cash only. I placed my order, went to pay with my credit card, and was told they could only take cash. I apologized for taking up her time and turned to leave, but she quietly said, "Please take the order and come back to pay." I was surprised and told her I couldn't do that, but she insisted. Her trust and kindness truly touched me. I promised I'd be back to pay! She has definitely earned a loyal customer in me, and I will visit every time I'm in the area. Cheesecake is phenomenal, cookies and muffins are my favorite. My wife raves about the big, fluffy and soft fresh-baked bread. I like the spanikopita and baklava. She also does fantastic apple pies. I believe she's been selling them for a few decades now. Came on a Sunday around 1PM and the drive to here is very pretty. Kind of in the middle of farm/grass land, but its a cute little shop next to some tall grass. I was the only one there but there is lots of parking. I went in and there was a fan running to keep the place cool since it was packed, small, and kind of cozy; but you knew it would get really hot in the summer. The walls and shelves are filled with sweets and knick knacks, and there's an older lady who runs the shop. I got a chocolate chip cookie for $1.25 I think, a blueberry muffin for $3.50, and a slice of cheesecake for $8. Fair warning, it is cash only. The cookie was on the flakier side - never had a chocolate chip cookie with that consistency and it was different and good, but not for me personally. The blueberry muffin however was sweet, hefty, and worth the price. Now the cheesecake everyone raves about. It was $8 for a slice (which was more like a fourth of the cheesecake). I asked the lady how much it would be, and after I paused and thought about it for a bit, she said it was enough for two people, so that convinced me. She seemed a bit cold or unwelcome as a first impression, but I was hoping that the cheesecake would make up for it. And it did. It was the right amount of sweet, not too cheesy, and light. I'm a sucker for crust, and this was one of the best crusts I've ever had. $40 for a whole cheesecake was a bit stiff for me, but I would greatly appreciate it as a gift. Overall, cheesecake was pricey but worth it, and the muffin was definitely worth it. Would come back for a slice or more muffins, and would come to try other sweets too. read more

I was looking for a late afternoon treat in the Suisun Valley and came across Little Knopp's Bakery. This small bakery is in the rural area, but very close to Interstate 80 and the Suisun Valley wine region. The bakery has an eclectic mix of baked goods, but something for everyone. Parking is generous on a large lot. The inside of the bakery seems more like a gift shop than a bakery, but the back of the shop has the treats. The items are in the display case for choosing. They also offer some coffee and other beverage options. On my trip, I got some baklava and a coffee. Coffee is espresso only, so expect an Americano if you order regular coffee. Overall, the quality was good in a nice setting. Little Knopp's is cash only which is tough these days, so come prepared. They are open a little later than most and convenient to Jelly Belly and Cordelia traffic. Don't forget to see the various sculptures on property too. read more

What a hidden GEM we took our dog for a run at Rockville and decided to pop in for some treats. It is cash only but that's OK because there is a gas station one minute away with an ATM machine. We ordered a large slice of the legendary cheesecake, a chocolate dipped biscotti, and some baklava. I cannot wait to go back and try some of the other items. Be careful.
