I thought it was strange that there are no recent reviews of this place but i think it may be because no one is eating there and now i know why. We ordered a few different items to try and got delivery from this place and received the food in a reasonable time frame (around 45 min maybe) but it was just not good. Super greasy eggrolls and potstickers to the point that they were inedible (so bummed as i as really craving good egg rolls!). Quality of the meats (beef, chicken, and shrimp) you could tell were not good and covered in oil/grease (nothing was fried btw). Not that there was much in the way of meat in any of the dishes though. We also tried a noodle dish that had basically soggy oily spaghetti noodles, cut up, and a few pieces of chicken throughout. You could literally see oil floating in everything. So gross... Honestly, Panda Express is way way better. Oh and our bill was almost $100! For that I was hoping for at least decent food? But i ended up having to throw it almost all out. Its too bad that there aren't any really good authentic Chinese places around here that delivery. I cannot imagine that no one has written a review of Little Lan's. Most of the North Shore does takeout from here, what gives? Traditional Chinese food (Szechuan & Mandarin) run by a very nice family. Just a simple place with seating for roughly 40 people. Not much in the way of restaurant atmosphere because it is oriented towards takeout or delivery orders, but it is nice and clean. Polite, fast, efficient staff who preps food up front also act as the wait staff. My family does take-out from Little Lan's frequently and have never been disappointed. Neither will you. read more

I ordered take out and was given a time to pick it up. I arrived 5 minutes early and had to listen to the owner screaming in the kitchen that I was early and what did I expect. The order was incomplete and I had to call the restaurant for a refund for the missing items. The food was bad. The Kung Po Chicken was made with non Chinese vegetables (tomatoes,cucumbers,button mushrooms) and had no spice. The Mongolian beef had the texture of ground beef and no flavor. We ordered delivery and got the wrong order. We called back to tell them and the woman said we didn't order the dish we said we did. She was insistent that we got what we ordered and when I was insistent that we know what we wanted and ordered she then rudely said "then I guess I have a hearing problem." She said I don't know what to do. I said we want what we ordered and she said it couldn't be delivered until the next delivery, which was okay but then she insisted we return the food and asked what we had done to it. After I hung up we called back to cancel because we weren't sure if she might do something to the food because she was so mad and she was obviously going to reuse the food we had opened. I told her we wanted a full refund and she said they would pick up the food in the next hour and issue us a credit. I'm still shocked that this woman owns/works at a restaurant where she interacts with customers because she was awful on every level - really unbelievable. ------ As an update, the woman said they would pick up the order and issue a full credit but instead she took it upon herself to simply credit our card and recharge my credit card for the other two dishes that were what we ordered. I think that was unethical as I didn't want to be charged anything from this place given her unprofessional and rude treatment of a customer and we had already re-ordered from another place after she falsely represented they would credit us. read more

Very disappointing Chinese restaurant. Nothing I enjoyed a lot or would recommend. I got the potstickers, wonton soup, "kung bao" chicken, and beef with black mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and pea pods. The potstickers were alright. Nothing special like something you would get at the store, not very fresh but ok. Wonton soup was probably the best thing but I still didn't enjoy it too much. The broth was good and the vegetables in it were alright. The "kung bao" chicken, which I will put in quotations because I had NO SPICE AT ALL! I'm serious that if I was blindfolded and I didn't know what it was, I would never think it would be kung pao chicken whatsoever. The beef dish was terrible as well. It was lacking flavor, had no balance of taste such as no spice, no tang, no sweet, no garlic flavor, no ginger flavor, it tasted like nothing. Overall, the soup was passable but everything else was unmemorable and would not order again or recommend. Won't get food from here again, very disappointing. read more

I recently went on a quest to find a new Chinese joint after my fave was sold. I've been to many recently, and I have to say - without hesitation - that Little Lans has the most unfriendly and unhelpful service I have had the misfortune to encounter. The woman at the counter could not have been more unpleasant. People asked her questions and she ignored them; people walked in and waited for their orders and she ignored them; diners had to get up from their tables to get things like water and soy sauce. She almost refused to take my credit card because my bill was $12. And then she gave me a hard time about getting a copy of the receipt. I don't care how good the food is. I will never go back. Just in case you're interested... the food was fair but unremarkable. And overpriced. There are plenty of warm, friendly Chinese restaurants with good service - and better food. We thought we'd try, for the first time, ordering take out from Little Lan's. We were sorely disappointed. We had ordered Egg Foo Young, Combination Fried Rice, Egg Rolls and Garlic Shrimp. Everything tasted the same, was greasy and everything was the exact same color. We're both left with a bad taste after attempting to eat the food. We will not be ordering from Little Lan's again. read more

the food is awful, the service is awful, and she yells at people who leave subpar tips. SHE TOLD US TO TIP MORE. THAT IS NOT ETHICAL! WE TIPPED 15% BECAUSE SHE WAS HORRIBLE TO US AND SHE YELLED AT US... She also charged me $60 for my $30 bill... she charged it twice... and when I asked for my money back over the phone she said she would call me back... she never did. Here's the thing about this place: my family gets takeout from there often because it's so close by and the food is okay for the most part but certain things, especially the fried rice, are really hit or miss. I walked into the restaurant at 12:15 pm on a Wednesday. There were no other patrons in the place at that time. The owner was on the phone and barely acknowledged my presence. Seeing no one else, I asked if they were open for lunch. Not even taking the phone from her ear, she pointed to the dining room. Several minutes later she appeared at my table with a menu, her phone still stuck on her ear. A few minutes later, another patron arrived, clearly a friend of the owner. Moments later that patron was served a drink, and I was told by the owner that she would bring me some water, which took another few minutes. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and was never asked about a beverage choice. The meal took a very long time to arrive. It was one of the worst meals that I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant. The meat was stringy and fast-laden; the rice was tepid; and the owner never returned to my table to ask how the meal was nor to even refill my water glass. While I was eating my meal, the owner again disappeared into the kitchen. A nice looking young couple arrived and waited to be seated. They stood at the entrance to the dining room for a while, then they stood in front of the cashier's desk -- still no one appeard. They threw up their hands and left. When the owner returned, she spent time chatting with her friend, I placed my dishes on the edge of the table to assure that she would know that I had finished my meal. She brought my check, I signed the credit card slip and left, never hearing a word of thanks as I left the place. My advice -- avoid this place at all costs! read more

the best place on the north shore to get chinese food, hands down ! there is a reason this place has stayed in business for as long as it has, and that's because the food is great ! i have never been disappointed eating here. i usually order the beef and broccoli because it is my absolute favorite, but the mu shu pork is also top notch. cashew chicken, kung pao chicken, and i personally think they make the best fried rice i have ever eaten. now i am not some sort of chinese food expert or anything, but i have had my fair share of bad chinese food and it definitely has not come from little lans. i highly recommend that if you are in the area you check it out ! you won't be disappointed ! read more

We just got delivery from here this evening: General tso chicken, sesame chicken, egg drop soup, and crab Rangoon. The chicken was the same in both dishes - soggy, flavorless, dry, no spice, no seasoning, and that reheated from the day (or week) before taste. Don't expect any crispy chicken or that gooey and spicy flavor - an absolute waste of $50. Frozen boxed chicken from Walmart would have more flavor. Don't order from here. You would expect more from a restaurant in this area. Go 10 minutes down the road to Joy Yee's in Evanston. You have been warned. read more

Met a couple of friends here, small place, about 5 tables in the Dining Room. Noticed their Take-out was very busy. Waitress came for drinks, they have a full bar, my friends ordered Diet Coke's and I asked for a Bud Light. The Waitress returned with the Coke's and told me they had no Bud Light, she took me to a refrigerator showing me just Japanese Beers, I took a bottle of Kirn Light. My friends commented that their Coke's tasted very bad, I looked at the expiration date on the bottom of the can and it was stamped an expiration of November 2015, almost two years ago. The Waitress was busy so I went to the refrigerator and found a warm 12/pk with an expiration date of March 2017. Ok we got our drinks. My Won-ton soup arrived and it needed some seasoning. I waited for the Waitress but she was busy with the Take-outs. I went to the Kitchen door and asked for some Pepper, they told me where it was in the Dining Room, OK. After the main dish came a friend wanted Soy Sauce, but the Waitress but she was busy with the Take-outs. Again, I went to the Kitchen door and asked for some Soy Sauce, they told me where it was, behind a plant behind the Bar, OK. When we left, Take-out was busy, we all noticed that our shoes were sticking to the floor. It seems that the Restaurant is run by just a Cook and a woman who is responsible for phone orders, pick-ups, dining room and, busing the tables. I felt sorry for her. The food was tasty but after this I wonder about the cleanliness of the Kitchen. I won't return. read more

This is a nice-looking, reasonably small North Shore Chinese restaurant, and most of the Yelp reviews are very good, but both the service and the food were very disappointing. The Moo Shu Pork was so salty that we couldn't eat part of it. Some bites were fine and some were like getting a teaspoon of salt, suggesting that the cook hadn't stirred the food enough in addition to using too much salt. The scallops with black mushrooms had none of the delicate texture they should have, but were almost slimy and somewhat unpleasant to eat. The jasmine tea, which was more expensive than the regular tea, also came in a much smaller teapot. That's perhaps understandable for premium tea, except that the cheap teabags were sticking out and the tea had none of the lovely scent that should be part of jasmine tea. The waitress never offered to put more water in the teapot and, for most of the meal, our water glasses were sitting empty. The waitress seemed like a very nice person, but was the only person outside the kitchen, so had to handle greet-and-seat, take orders, serve food, bus tables, and handle all the bills, payments, and take-out business. This understaffing showed when we were served our Moo Shu, because we had to wait several minutes for her to return to the table with the hoisin sauce, while our pork and crepes got cold. Based upon the other reviews, we may just have had a particularly bad, outlier experience, but we definitely won't be returning. read more
