Cute little eatery. There's a cashier and kiosk to order. There are 2 tables I believe where you can eat in if you like. I feel it's more an order and go place. I ordered the sesame chicken and salt and pepper shrimp. The shrimp has no shell which I appreciated. It was very crispy and flavorful. The sesame chicken was crispy and very saucy. I think their sauce is very different from what I'm used to. Sweeter and a spice flavor (not spicy) I couldn't pin point. Overall I wouldn't mind going back to try their other items :). read more

This is a take out Chinese restaurant. I think I saw one table in there. They have so many boba drinks that look so yummy but I didn't get one. This is my 2nd time ordering, tonight I did delivery right from the restaurant. The food is delicious! Crab Rangoon are full of filling and come with a great homemade sauce. The vegetable egg rolls are large and very good, also comes with a great home made sauce. We got chicken fried rice and there was a lot of tender white meat chicken. I always judge a place on the egg foo young and that was also great! I got extra brown sauce and loved it. This will definitely be our go to for Chinese!! Catered food from here before for a birthday party I was having. Everything came out very great. I liked how the person on the phone double confirmed everything I was ordering and constantly repeated things back to me. The food at Ho-Ho Chinese is truly exceptional. I have never had a bad experience here in nearly 11 years of visiting. Every visit consistently exceeds expectations. It's a charming, intimate spot with only two tables and six chairs. Most customers opt for takeout, but dining in here is a reliable choice. Every dish I've tried has been absolutely delicious. Packed with shrimp but the gravy fell flat added Maggie seasoning was pretty good, I ordered maylasian green beans They added shrimp great flavor not too salty . Been ordering here for years and the food is usually really good. However we recently ordered two lunch specials that were absolutely horrible. The chicken and broccoli and szechuan were awful. The chicken was slimy and the food smelled "old". We didn't eat right away or we would have called. We believe that the lunch specials are made from leftovers that are about to go bad because when we order this for dinner it's really good. Either way I don't think we'll be ordering from her here again that was a lot of money down the toilet. read more

I ordered the shrimp with mixed vegetables and added fried rice for my lunch special. It tasted good and the portions were good. But the fried rice was too dry and seemed more than a few days old. I'm really sad to write this, but the food was absolutely horrible. I ordered a small sweet-and-sour chicken. The chicken looked more like oversized popcorn chicken the fry was gummy and it didn't even feel like it was cooked inside. I had a feeling it was sitting there and then they just reheated it. The sweet-and-sour sauce was overly garlic. I don't know what the flavor is place used to be good but the food it's gotten downhill and too expensive for what it is the staff is good, but that's about it. read more

My husband likes Ho Ho and I eat it when he brings it home, but I had never ordered from here on my own. (I have a long standing favorite Chinese place.) Ho Ho is minutes from our house and tonight I was dining alone and decided to give them a try. I read the reviews and decided to try the Garlic chicken and the combination fried rice, which my husband loves from here. Carry out was super quick and their prices are great. Both dishes were really good! The garlic chicken had a nice flavor, good assortment of veggies and tender chicken. The combination fried rice was excellent! Not dry and I got protein in every bite (beef, chicken or shrimp.) My husband is going to surprised when he gets home and sees that I ordered from there. There's enough for him to eat and still enough for my lunch tomorrow. I look forward to trying other dishes! read more

Their food used to be amazing but profitability is king and now most dishes that contain meat are packed with all the "cheap" veggies: zucchini, celery, bell peppers. The flavor is good but unless you are gearing up to become vegetarian, pass. read more

My family loves Ho Ho! We've been ordering from here for over 20 years. Even my children enjoy the food now. It's exciting that they recently added new items to the menu. One of my most fond memories of literally any neighborhood in Chicago is finding "that local Chinese place" that can execute the basics. Fried rice, egg rolls, etc. Stumbled on this place from Yelp & fast forward two orders later... I'm leaving a review. Egg rolls, not greasy at all & very tasty. Fried rice, delicious - I've tried beef & also plain. Few places offer plain & I feel it's a perfect compliment to another entree you might order. Shrimp egg foo young is the star. Larger shrimp than most places & flavorful! I've never had the chance to stop by, so can't comment on the interior. Delivery was lightning fast previously however, tonight/Saturday night was a challenge. Order arrived 30 minutes past estimated delivery. That said, when I called, the woman who answered was polite, called the driver - he was stuck in traffic. Despite all this, he FLEW up 5 flights of stairs & apologized profusely. Very few places have their own delivery drivers & I appreciated the effort - it's rare these days. Food was still hot & perfectly packed! Would I order again? Yes, absolutely! But, I did enjoy it none the less. GYOZA - I can be a potsticker snub. I like mine stuffed with meat & veggies and pan fried. These are your typical gyoza with little filling but deep fried. I should have looked at the photos more carefully. KUNG PAO CHICKEN LUNCH SPECIAL - for the amount of food, $6.35 is a bargain (with steam rice). Somehow I ordered with chicken fried rice, it costed 80 cents more. The kung pao chicken was tasty and full of flavor. I didn't see any red chili peppers that makes the dish "wow"or "pao".. well, for me at least. DRY BEEF CHOW FUN - (wide) rice noodle is my favorite noodle in the world of noodles. It was prepared in your typical-corner-Chinese-take-out way. It was average. The restaurant is carry out and delivery only. There are plenty of parking available (lot and street). I'm really torn now, I have 3 to 4 very good Chinese food spots all located like 10 minutes away from me. And Ho Ho is one of them, they have a no nonsense pick up spot, there's no dining in. But they have Good food and that's what counts. For this last meal, the shrimp egg foo young had really big shrimp, the crab rangoon was solid - with a lot of cream cheese. Finally, the orange chicken was crispy and not too sweet nor soggy. And I don't know if all the Chinese restaurants got the same memo but when I asked for chili oil (for a little heat for my food), the guy said, "it's 35 cents but I'm going to give it to you for free this time." I was told something similar at China Chef. I still tip even when I'm picking up and that comment didn't make me feel too special as a customer. read more

Got delivery. Ordered the walnut shrimp and bbq pork fried rice - both were delicious! 5/5. However the first time I ordered, I got the lemon chicken (which was decent), and the beef chow mein (which I would not order again nor recommend). The beef, vegetables, and sauce that comes with it was tasty, but the noodles are fried crunchy noodles (tasted pre made & packaged) that you pour everything over. I may receive some hate with this review but so be it. I'm seeing some reviews from known Yelp friends so I'm guessing they grew up near here or this is a restaurant within their locale. I can see how locals would delight w/ this local, fast food Chinese spot. It's considered affordable, gives plenty of food and their entree can be quite appetizing. I could also add their in-store experience is different than most. They also offer some needful items like sports shorts, gallon sized water thermos for the gym, miscl apparel and the same plastic carry-out containers they use for meals. The cost of which is lucrative and more cost effective than buying on your own from the web. The drop-off is the quality of the rice in the lunch combo, some of their appetizers and their flavorings in entrees which can be high in the salty/ sweet category. See Kung Pao chicken which some repeat customers love. It isn't spicy like most other Chinese restaurants. Instead it has a watery based sauce and is sweet in taste. Their Mongolian beef entree is interesting. It's coated in a thick, slightly sweet gel like sauce. The other day I picked up three lunch combo plates. One of the three had rice that was decent. Could have been made fresher but okay enough to enjoy. The other two, the rice was hard. I don't think their staff were properly checking quality. The other two were different levels of hard rice. The kind that dries out from being in the refrigerator some days. I'm aware that fried rice is prepared ahead of time in batches. This to help them expedite lunch combos. But, how fresh the rice appears is dependent on whomever is steaming said rice back to life. My two co-workers didn't touch the rice which is disappointing since they were hungry and we paid a bit extra for chicken fried rice. The rice barely had the said extra ingredients. After eating years worth of lunch special combo platters, I would bet the great ratings this restaurant enjoys is from their a la carte menu. That way you know everything is made fresh at the time of order? One and done kinda experience for us guys. 2.5 stars rounded out. Seriously, the other reviews are right: don't let the exterior discourage you from ordering food from here! Ho Ho Chinese Kitchen pretty much the only business open on this block. All the other stores are closed and boarded up. It was a little strange to see, but I ordered for pick up so the atmosphere of the location made no difference to me. The inside was a small, fairly outdated looking establishment, but let's be real. You're not coming here to enjoy the ambiance. You're here for the food, and it does not disappoint! My partner and I were craving classic "cheap" Chinese food. In Orange County, CA we had a Chinese food restaurant on every other corner, so we've had our fair share. We were hoping to find something similar, and Ho Ho Chinese ended up being a step up! We ordered sesame chicken, spicy garlic beef, and lo mein. The quantity of food provided was great! They also came in eco friendly containers so I appreciated that. Each dish was fresh and flavorful but not overly greasy, as can be the case for some Chinese takeout. So.much.hype. with this one! You know I had to follow it! I heard about this location from a coworker of mine. Then I saw fellow infamous yelpers Gerry and Shih who know where all the good food is at. We had to try it, finally. I had heard customer service isn't the best. Although the gentleman at the door was friendly and wished me a good night as he brought our order out FRESH and EXACTLY on time. Nailed it. I honestly would have missed this location if I never heard about it through word of mouth. Super tiny and in a small parking lot. It's quaint! What amazed me was how affordable everything was for the amount of food we got! -gyoza (10 piece); it was good, they only offer pork filled. I prefer having the option of veggie only. Not the best, not the worst but good overall. Only have fried (no steam option). -bbq pork chow fun: the chow fun noodles were packaged separately (as they should be) for our to-go order. I enjoyed the noodles. It was a solid 3 star dish. -walnut shrimp: by far our favorite. If you like Panda Express's, this one knocks it out of the park. My order was hot, ready and correct when I arrived. Everything we ordered was done right. The Mongolian beef was tender and luscious and the chow fun noodles with jumbo shrimp was delicious. The shrimp were jumbo sized, plentiful and seemed very fresh; not mushy or overcooked. We ordered the pot stickers which were also good but I wish they had pork instead of chicken.
