My boyfriend and I came here during the week for happy hour and honestly... the margaritas alone will have me coming back The drinks were HUGE for the happy hour price and actually tasted good too, which matters lol. I think I had a mango margarita and my boyfriend got something passion fruit-ish, but either way both were so good. We ordered a variety of tacos plus the birria fries and everything was delicious. The birria fries were definitely my favorite though. Flavor was there, portions were good, and nothing disappointed. We sat outside on the patio and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Since we went during the week, it wasn't super packed, which made it even better. Service was also really nice, everybody was friendly and checked on us without being overbearing. Only thing that threw me off a little was the bathroom wasn't very clean or put together when we went. Outside of that though, everything else was great and we had a really good experience overall. I went in at around 5pm on a Friday and sat at the bar. There were a couple servers scrambling around. When I sat, there was a gentleman behind the bar but I don't think he was the bartender. After a few minutes I asked him if I could order a drink. The actual bartender didn't come in for another 30 minutes. When she arrived, I wasn't acknowledged, she just started prepping the bar for service. I ordered a vodka/cran and when my guest arrived, he ordered a whiskey/coke. His drink came in a glass half the size of mine even though it was a single liquor pour. For the next round we asked if we could get the same size glasses and she gave it to us but with hesitation. We had the chicken nachos on happy hour. Tasty and a pretty generous portion with an abundance of toppings. I would return because of the amazing happy hour offerings, but would want service to be a little more seamless. read more

Went to Little Mexico after the Monument 10k this weekend. The service was very friendly and they were even nice enough to let us in a bit early prior to them opening at 11. I have been a frequent customer of Little Mex since my VCU college days. Since then, the restaurant has gotten a make over with fresh pink paint covering the walls and lots of cute decals. The outdoor patio is now covered so no bugs can get in while you're eating. The food was typical texmex food - classic and satisfies the craving! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I truly enjoy homemade chips - I think if Little Mex added this it would take them to the next level! Such a cute spot, gives me Miami vibes. This would be such a good vibe to hang out during the summer especially with their new patio. I tried little Mexico and it's so tucked away that I've never noticed it before. Definitely a hidden gem. Service here was awesome and really nice. We tried the holy guacamole, the taquitos, Baja shrimp tacos, the Al pastor tacos, the birria ramen. Everything was so good. I do wish the shrimp tacos had a bit more flavor. It felt like something was missing and because of that, It was a little dry. The Al pastor tacos was good! The guacamole was some of the best guacamole I've ever had. The portions was so generous. The taquitos was the star of the show, they were so good. We tried a few of their cocktails and margaritas. All the drinks were fire. No complaints. Little mex is still a Richmond staple. There have been some changes over the years, but it's still the same great flavor. Service is always great as well. Jesus, the manager has no customer service whatsoever, nor does he care about his customers. I also just inquired and it has 13 health violations for rodents and in adequate handwashing hand, sanitizing rags and cleaning on temperature food preparation . They got 76 out of 100. Their lowest score has been 66 out of 100 . And where I come from on the West Coast, they put ABCD health grade signs in the window from the health department and it has to be visible to the Public and I believe Virginia should follow in those footsteps... But back to my Food encounter ...IT Took four times to get one order, correct.... A very simple order just rice and plain chicken. That's it the fourth time it wasn't right they kept adding veggies and sauces. And I just wanted plain chicken plain rice so on the fourth time, they refuse to remake it and refund me my money now mind you this isn't my first time there but it's definitely gonna be my last time....... And then businesses wonder why they're struggling to make ends meet or they can't keep customers. If you want great tacos, it's nothing fancy but it's called Tacos Mexico and it's absolutely fabulous and so inexpensive. They even make their own homemade tortillas. That's the place to go. As a VCU student I can see how this could be a great spot, the food is good, it's local, and they have outdoor patio spaces where you can get seated and served pretty quickly. However, the Quesabirria was a little underwhelming from what I'm used to and not from a flavor standpoint but from a portion size point of view, I wish they packed the birria a little more. The consommé was really flavorful and made up for it, had just the right amount of spice to me. Overall if you're looking for a quick spot to stop by near campus this is for you. read more

I used to come here regularly, but after today's experience, I don't see myself returning. We came to celebrate Father's Day, and things went downhill from the start. After being seated, no one came to take our drink or food orders for at least 15-20 minutes. Eventually, the host -- who seemed to notice the delay -- came over and took our order around the 20-minute mark. When the food finally arrived, two out of the three orders were incorrect, and one entrée didn't come out at all. My dad had to wait another 15 minutes after the rest of us had been served to receive his food. It was frustrating and disappointing, especially since we were there to celebrate him. They did offer a discount for the issues, but it was less than the cost of a single entrée -- which felt like poor management and an inadequate gesture given the circumstances. On top of that, they automatically added an 18% gratuity despite the fact that this was one of the worst service experiences I've had in my memory. Everything is super affordable and it always comes to you piping hot, so you know it's fresh. They also provide complimentary chips & salsa with unlimited refills. I definitely suggest getting some queso or fresh guacamole to go along with the salsa. You won't regret it. This restaurant has plenty of tables, booths, and bar seating. Never had such amazing asada fries, and my husband loved the birria ones as well. They brought the food super quick. They gave us some appetizers to start. 100% recommend. Will definitely come back. Had a family member at VCU hospital, we needed to grab lunch and wanted to get out of the hospital cafeteria. Came to Little Mexico and could not have been happier. the restaurant was medium size but very quaint and welcoming. We were welcomed with some chips and salsa, which were really yummy. I got the burrito grande which came with steak, rice, beans, sautéed vegetables, and covered in a chipotle cream sauce. It was very good. My daughter got the birra tacos, and she loved them as well. My wife got the fried ground beef chimichangas. No one was disappointed. All the food was very well-made, very fresh and very delicious. The waitstaff were very friendly. I enjoyed my Happy Hour and dinner at Little Mexico. Overall no complaints, but nothing much worth saying about it either. Their chips and salsa (whereas at least theyre free) are standard, the cheaper version of what could be a more exciting appetizer. A white or green sauce could really bring this up a notch. The Happy Hour menu I thought had limited drinks and very limited food. Not a big deal but room to improve. The margaritas however were pretty nice so no complaints. The staff were nice as could be and our party of six were seated quickly as we found the place was still quiet before the after work rush could set in. The menu is pretty standard, by which I mean boring. Mexican cuisine can be so beautiful, colorful, flavorful, with creative yet so many restaurants I find to be neither traditional nor inventive so, sitting down for a very expected burrito or chicken soft taco is what anyone can expect here. read more

After visit the same location a few weeks ago I decided to get a takeout order, upon arriving at the restaurant there was an order sitting on the counter that was a takeout order at first I thought it was mine. A gentleman went into the back and brought out a small bag containing 6 tacos wrapped in aluminum foil like he had gotten them from his cousin's house. No takeout container at all.Iasked for salsa on the side for my tacos and received 1 small salsa for 6 tacos and 99 chips. To make matters worst I called back to restaurant and asked for the manager and spoke to the same guy who delivered me the bag...He advised that for 17nyears they have been giving out food without takeout containers,gave me his name which I really couldn't pronounce and said " Goodbye Lady". My rehearsal group and I have been coming here weekly for several years. We started out at Barrio but were kicked out of the lounge section because it was reserved, or so they said. I think they just didn't care for our demographic - middle-age. We ended up at LM and now we go there every Monday after rehearsal for fellowship. I usually have 2 fellowships, sometimes frozen, sometimes on the rocks - they're delicious. The food is good, the ambiance is typicall Mexican restaurant, and the entire staff is cordial and pleasant, particularly Emelin and David. This was my first time eating at little Mexico after living in Richmond for over a decade. Crazy I know! I've been told the same. Of course I wish it would've been under different circumstances but here are. Their COVID guild lines are definitely met with all employees wearing masks, they provide hand sanitizer at the host stand and they created a patio for guest who would like to eat outside. They also have everyone more than 6 feet apart if you choose to eat inside. I was recommended to order the Fajita Quesadilla which came with chicken and steak. Rice, sour cream, pico and guacamole on the side. And it was definitely flavor-able, very filling. The tortilla was perfectly cooked and just the perfect balance with being crispy but not too crispy if that makes sense. Of course at a restaurant named Little Mexico had to order a Margarita. I order just a classic one (no salt for me lol) in a large and when I say it was strong it was strong. If you're a light drinker one would be enough for you. Overall, being my first time I enjoyed my experience and will definitely be making my way there again soon. read more
