We were greeted as soon as we came in during lunch time. The atmosphere was clean and quiet. The server greeted us and took our drink orders within seconds. We had to ask for the white sauce with the chips and salsa. Which is a $2.00 charge. We were unaware of this charge up front. The server didn't mention it. We ordered the Mar Y Tierra and Burrito grande with steak. I'll say it took all of 15 mins for our food to be served. The sweet tea was very good. Our food was bursting with FLAVOR!! We didn't expect this to be this good! We have our usual go to Mexican spot in Chester area. But now we have added this spot for whenever we cross the River to Henrico area. I would not go back . Food was ok. Not the worst but far from the best . The biggest issue is the lack of service . Waitress was young but never checked on us . No refills , no do you need anything . I sat there for at least 15 minutes waiting for anyone to pass so I could get salsa for my burrito . Then we sat waiting for our check for at least 30 minutes . Best fajitas I've ever had! A fajita is a pretty simple thing, but they nailed it. Fajitas for two cost $25 before tip. Very reasonable. Service was surprisingly fast, then again we did come around 2 o' clock. The outdoor seating on the patio is nice, with umbrellas for shade, and a few handsome planter boxes with plants. Great place to eat with friends or take out to a wife that is still scared of Covid. They have take out to a science. Nuff said. Inside is comfortable, spacious in this age of contact sickness and clean. Everything was clean. The floors, tables, bathrooms and even the windows. The view of the cold dark night was crisp and clear. From the hand made signs you can tell they have their share of people trying to take advantage of them, and still they have welcoming smiles and grateful kindness. It is a place I can recommend to all my friends and a few of the people I work with. When I dreads cooking and need to be reminded of the good ole days pure winter, I come here. Mucho Gusto! We finally found friendly, home style, authentic Mexican cuisine in Richmond. We got sopes and birriaqueso tacos and it was fantastic. The corn "tortilla" of the sope was that thick, homemade, corn masa kind - dense and spongy. The birria beef was tender and the consume wasn't fatty - just packed with concentrated flavor. I am so happy to have found you Frida! This place is super cute and looks like maybe a dozen tables. It might be a thing to get in there on a busy Friday or Saturday night. The environment is warm and lots of colorful decorations. The service was friendly and fast. Really feels like a place run by a family that takes pride in their food. The menu has wide selections and all the classic sauces (verde, mole, etc.). I hope you try it and they do well. Maybe it won't blow you away but relative to everything else I've tried in Richmond, Fridas shines. read more

Still our favorite Mexican takeout! Prices have gone up slightly (average a dollar or two more) but so have prices everywhere else. Still great quality and delicious food. Highly recommend but one thing I wasn't blown away with is their margaritas which I did have dining in the restaurant a little while back. Date night after a long stressful week concluded at Fridas! Fiancé and I went on a Friday night around 6pm and had zero wait. Only about 3 tables filled, so that was good. Staff were very friendly and clean. Salsa and chips were brought out promptly however salsa could have had a bit more flavor but still good to me! Chori pollo was huge! Tons of meat, beans, rice and the cheese dip on top was magnificent. 10/10 would get again. And very reasonably priced compared to other restaurants! Huevos con chorizo was another superb dish reasonably priced with tons of food. Great flavor to that chorizo! The house margarita was well balanced. Enough alcohol to get my fiancé tipsy but not trashed! The menu did say $8 however was charged $10 but I didn't fight it ‍ 8/10 would definitely go again to get my Mexican fix in! read more

I was staying at the hotel next door, and Frida's looked to be a convenient option for dinner. After a long day's drive, not only were their extensive menu and good reviews a draw, there was this one other phrase: "$4 house margaritas." Sold! I'd say the pace is no frills and somewhat authentic, with simple, tasteful decor, and a rather extensive menu of good, basic Mexican cuisine. Upon being seated, we were given a basket of warm chips and a carafe (!) of salsa for them. The salsa had a deep, rich, tomatoey taste and just the right amount of spiciness. So those margaritas - they come in multiple sizes, standard (16 oz.), larger, and "Oh my gawd, I'm not driving after this!" My choice for dinner was their idea of an ultimate burrito, which featured grilled beef, chicken and shrimp, covered with lettuce, sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It was the length of the oval-shaped plate. And they certainly know how to grill their meat and seafood perfectly. I'm really glad my walk "home" was just across the parking lot to the hotel, as I left stuffed from great food and drink. read more

I was eating at Fridas once a week when I was pregnant. Took my son to lunch a week ago and a large roach crawled across the floor. My waiter stomped it and looked to see if anyone was looking. He saw me looking and slide his foot until it was out of my view. When he finally came to my table my food had been just sitting. I asked him was that a roach and he didn't respond. I told him I did not have an appetite. He said ok let me talk to the manager. He came back and said " don't worry I can assure you they're not in the kitchen". I said "okay", got my son and left. We would have liked to rate much more than a "five". Our first visit was tonight, July 25, 2024--very nice atmosphere and decor. We were greeted at the door and seated. A warm basket of chips and salsa was there in minutes, and our server was right there. Our beverages were taken and unequivocally the best margaritas to the ones offered at local steak houses in Henrico. We both had beef and chicken tacos, nicely seasoned. Beef Chimichacngas (fried) were good. Most cantinas include rice and refried beans with Chimichangas. Frida's included only Refried Beans. Very good beans, if saltier than most. I didn't notice it until later, but there was additional small clamshell containing Shredded Lettuce, Tomato, Sour Cream, and Guacamole. Tortilla Chips come with Red Salsa. I'm used to Tortilla Chips including both red and white sauces. And sometimes a third... green. But not Frida's. Next time I'll ask them to substitute white sauce for red. And it's a rather scant amount of chips, too. But more than I can eat in 1 sitting. Homemade chips & homemade salsa -- both quite good. Now, that's interesting. This the first time I've ever had a Mexican Cucumber Salad. Interesting, but I wouldn't order it again. It comes with a cup of Lime Wedges, and a cup of Chili Powder. I'll be back. Frida's hasn't displaced my fave cantina (Julios) but there are a number of dishes that I want to try when I return. read more

Frida's is a small but richly atmosphered restaurant whose staff is primarily ESL speakers, so this is a great place to try if you are taking a Spanish class and want to try your hand at conversing with a native speaker. The food is good and the happy hour is great as well. The space is probably best for a max party of six. The ONLY downside I've found here is the language barrier can lead to some confusion; I also order my tacos with nacho cheese, and I find asking for the swap between the normal cheese for nacho request can result in a lot of different results. Even if I get it right, if I order a second taco, it won't be made the same way--so I'm unsure where the communication breaks down, but I've since realized it's best to ask them to leave off the cheese but also to order a side of the nacho cheese sauce. Regardless, Frida's is always a great go-to! read more
