The food was very mediocre and completely tasteless; they tried to get away with using tiny scraps of meat. I will definitely never go back.

I'm so very late to the game with this restaurant. I've heard so much hype, but to be honest, not a huge fan of spicy food. But my husband had a cold and couldn't taste anything. He asked for bold flavors and I immediately thought of Sichuan food. We decided to finally give this spot a chance. We arrived to a completely empty restaurant on a Saturday night. We both were worried that they lost their mojo. We were the only dine in customers for awhile, then people started to trickle in. We knew service was on the slow side since it's a mom and pop joint, so we were happy that we got to order before the rush. Once our food came out we were so happy we came. The flavors were spot on and exactly what we wanted. The stars of the meal were the scallion fried rice and braised fish in spicy sauce. We couldn't get enough of both! A bonus was that Food Baby and family walked in as we were eating! I know they're regulars here and it was nice to see Mama Pepper's face light up when they walked in. I know it's hard to get to this location and most people travel to Flushing for Sichuan food. But please keep visiting and help keep this family run business a float! We're already planning our next visit!

After all these years on my bookmarks I finally got to try this spot because my wife was actually craving szechuan. I'm upset that we didn't go sooner because everything was delicious. We had the dumplings, spicy chicken, fish braised in spicy sauce and the scallion fried rice that went so good with the food we ordered. I'm definitely coming back to try more!!

Very friendly couple running this Szechuan restaurant. The flavorful dishes do take some time to come out, but were very good. Some of the dishes we tried were eggplant with garlic sauce, salt and pepper prawn, spicy fish (do ban yu) and pork and celery. The interior was clean and roomy and had some interesting artworks displayed.

There is one reason to go to this place, and it's for the scallion fried rice. That's it! It's so damn good! Everything else is good as well, but I would die for that green rice. It's a sweet little restaurant run by a lovely married couple, so go ahead and support this small business. There are paintings everywhere in the restaurant, and the lady who runs it is super sweet.

My daughter and I were headed to the nearby airport to pick up the rest of the family and we wanted something good to eat on the way. Found Little Pepper and knew it was the answer. Much easier to access than the Flushing spots but it absolutely stands up to them. Seating is comfortable and the restaurant is quiet enough for a conversation. Certainly seemed to be a family operation. Very nice woman working the front of house and a gentleman preparing all of the dishes. It felt like dining at someone's house, they served a table at a time. If you were late to a nearby theater, this may not be the choice for you. If you're patient and looking to eat an authentic meal, this is the place! At the tail end of a hard eating weekend, we didn't want to order too much. We checked out the menu while enjoying a complimentary pot of tasty tea. (Hint of oolong) We ordered silken tofu with scallion sauce, cumin lamb, sesame chicken, and pork fried rice. Menu had at least 30 items I would like to try. Silken tofu and cumin lamb packed flavor and a solid spice level. Probably not their spiciest dishes but they delivered. Lamb was tender and the tofu was in fact "silken". My daughter's sesame chicken was a high end example of a basic dish. The pork fried rice delivered quality ingredients made in a non salty/greasy way. Excellent dinner!

I've eaten at a lot of Szechuan places, and this is by far the best one I've been to. This is mainly due to their huge selection of dishes, many of which I've never heard of, and the fact that they actually cater to a wide variety of palates and spice tolerances. Items I would get again, ranked by preference, were the thinly sliced pork belly, sautéed cabbage, chicken in garlic sauce, beef and ox tripe, scallion fried rice, and preserved egg. All these dishes were packed with flavor. I loved how thin the pork belly was, and the cabbage was a really nice palate cleanser from all the oily/fried items since it wasn't salty. The two items I would pass on next time are the dumplings in hot sauce and the chongqing chicken. Even despite that, both were also really good. The dumplings just felt a little basic to me and the chicken was too tough for my liking. Honestly though it seems like you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We came on a Saturday around 7pm and only a couple of tables were occupied. The food came out quickly and service was great. I really wish I lived closer because I already want to come back!

The owner here is really sweet and is planning to retire soon, so come here before it changes ownership. The food was good. The scallion fried rice is definitely unique and pretty good but not as a stand alone dish. It's more of a side dish to eat the other food with. I really enjoyed the lamb with onions and scallions. Very tasty and not spicy. We also had mapo tofu but I wasn't a fan. Maybe because we asked for mild and no pork.

Starting off, the numbing szechuan chicken was my least favorite of the dishes - the pieces of chicken were really tiny and there were a lot of peppercorns. I wish they made the pieces of chicken slightly larger as it was irritating to slowly pick it out towards the end of finishing it. Now, what went well were the stone pot with the fish. Normally not a huge fan of fish, so if I can enjoy eating fish a place has done well in preparing it. The soup was really flavorful and everyone at my table enjoyed it. The sweet and sour pork was also nice. The breading was crispy and the sauce had a nice tangy flavor to it and the texture was interestingly satisfying. The grilled beef ribs and bao buns were one of my favorite. The beef rib was very tender and went well with the buns and condiments that were provided.

I've dined here with my family twice and in the most recent occasion, we came with no reservations around 2:30pm on a Sunday. All the tables were taken as they just opened at noon so we had to wait a bit. Their menu / iPad ordering system was simple to navigate and quick to place. Our table was started off with their spicy pickled cabbage, which was super addicting. I love how the spicy oil was so flavorful and the cabbage was soft and just slightly tangy. We ordered 5 dishes for our party of 5: the la-zi chicken, stir fried cabbage, grilled beef ribs, beef and mushroom bibimbap and mao xue wang. My favorites were the la-zi chicken as the diced chicken was super crispy and flavorful. The spice level and numbingness was just the right amount. Next comes the beef and mushroom bibimbap, which is mixed and served at the table. The flavors were more soy based and was very balanced. The stir fried cabbage was cooked well but the pork in the dish was extremely salty. The grilled beef ribs came with steamed baos, similar to peking duck. I enjoyed the experience and presentation but the dish was a bit boring. Toppings included a spicy hot sauce, cucumbers and scallions along with the sliced beef that was individually torched at the table. Lastly the mao xue wang is a traditional stew featuring offals and blood curds. This one had duck blood, tripe, and intestines. I was extremely disappointed by this dish as I was expecting some tofu and small pork intestines but it didn't have either. The tripe and intestines were very crunchy, wherwas the duck blood was silky and soft. The flavor was very basic mala stew and had a ton of red chili peppers. Overall I had a decent meal at Mountain house but can't help but wonder if I ordered the right things since not everything was as good as I hoped. I will mostly likely return to give their other menu items a try.

Hot Space is known for their grilled fish served in a large pan (kept heated with a flame underneath) with various toppings that you can choose from including enoki mushrooms, cabbage, veggies, fish tofu, soft tofu, kelp, lotus root, black fungus, rice cakes, ramen noodles, and glass noodles. They have options for the flavor of the broth/grilled fish including mala spicy, spicy tofu (comes with soft tofu), garlic, tomato, and more. Their menu also includes appetizers and other entrees including crawfish and shrimp. For appetizers, we tried the grilled fish tofu skewer, cold tofu with preserved duck egg, and grilled eggplant with garlic. I would recommend all of these appetizers. If you enjoy fish, this place is worth trying especially because you can customize it with toppings that you like. I mentioned to her that a couple places in Flushing sell crawfish Chinese style and she wanted to try. Did a search on Yelp and saw someone recently raved about the crawfish here. Every order of crawfish comes in 2lbs and we ordered the spiced flavored one. This crawfish gets an A++. Little one loved the flavors and freshness. So tasty. Not only that, but these were probably the biggest crawfish we've ever seen! Even the claws had meat! We also loved how they chopped off the top of the head to removed the "filter". We also ordered a couple small dishes to try. For cold apps we ordered the pigs ear and okra. We love the crunchy texture of the pigs ear and the more we ate it, the more addicting it got to eat. Okra was also a bit. For the skewers, we ordered the lamb beef and intestine. Honestly the lamb and beef skewers were probably the worst ones we've ever tried. It was a struggle to finish them. The meat was tasteless, hard and overcooked. No fat ratio at all. The pig intestines were perfectly cooked. Love when it's crispy. We love finding a place that's been around that's actually a huge hit for us. We will be back. If you spend $120, they will gift you a huge carafe of passion fruit tea.

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 5 Value: 8 Overall: 6 This is the restaurant that replaced Szechuan House, a beloved staple in Flushing since 1985. The food is very different, it's from the Dongbei (northeast) region of China. However, people will inevitably compare the flavors to its predecessor, though it is definitely not an apples to apples comparison. The cooking style of Dongbei cuisine is very hearty and savory. They also prefer noodles, breads, and dumplings as their staple over rice. Due to the extremely cold weather, they also focus quite of bit on pickled vegetables. Looking through their huge menu, I mainly focused on ordering the local dishes from Dongbei and veered away from items that are popular from other parts of China like Shanghainese soup dumplings or Szechuan sauerkrat fish. Here is what we had below. Spiced Wide Noodle w/ Mixed Vegetable & Pork (6.5/10) - This popular cold noodle dish was decent, but I had better versions around Flushing. Slightly too sauced up, but lacked a bit of vinegary touch. Spicy Pork Kidney (8/10) - This is one of the only non-Dongbei dishes I got because I'm a fan. Well, as expected, the flavors are not as bold or spicy as how it would be made by a Szechuan restaurant. However, it was boiled perfectly and super tender. Mix Dried Tofu Shreds (3/10) - Not sure why anyone would pay for this dish. Basically combining flavorless julienne dried tofu with cilantro. Tofu w/ Century Egg Salad (3/10) - Not inedible, but almost no flavor and felt like they just threw a bunch of chopped up century egg into silky tofu. Seasoning? I make a much better version at home. North China Sticky Pancake (6/10) - Stuffed with slightly sweet red bean paste, this sticky rice pancake is okay, but nothing special. Stewed Chicken w/ Mushroom (7/10) - The chicken was clearly overcooked, but the soup flavors were excellent, allowing the tree mushrooms and vermicelli soak up all the yumminess. Sautéed Triple Vegetables (8/10) - Classic dish from Dongbei done relatively well. I believe it could use a bit more crispiness, but pretty good overall. Pine Nuts & Baby Corn (6.5/10) - The baby corn was quite sweet, while the pine nuts add a bit of earthiness. It's a decent dish, but not special. Cumin Lamb (7.5/10) - I wish they used fresh cumin instead of powder, it would have made this dish even more aromatic and flavorful. Meat was relatively tender. Fried Pork in Sweet Sour Sauce (6/10) - Be nice if the pork was a bit thicker and definitely more tender. The batter was mochi-like and crispy. Shredded Pork w/ Bean Paste (7/10) - Definitely over salted, too much bean sauce. However, the pork was tender and the bead curd sheets were delicious. Sautéed Pork Intestine w/ Fresh Chili Pepper (8/10) - Maybe my favorite dish of the night. A few others said the same. Fatty and luxurious with a bit of heat. Crispy Fish Cutlet (7/10) - This dish was served cold and not crispy as the name suggests. However, the bones are all edible from the cooking process, marinated in a semi-sweet soy based sauce. Pumpkin Puffs (6/10) - Not bad, but once again, I had better versions around Flushing. More red bean paste filling and more pumpkin taste would be nice. Napa Cabbage & Pork Dumplings (7.5/10) - The skin was pretty smooth and not too thick. I do prefer one that has more filling, but it tasted pretty good. Shrimp, Pork & Chive Dumplings (7/10) - Same as the other dumpling. I also didn't taste the shrimp much. As for the food, I would say that there is better specialty shops around Flushing that sell Dongbei style noodles, dumplings, or pancakes. There are also restaurants that cook cold and hot dishes with more flavor. However, the pricing on everything is very reasonable and portion sizes are large. One more thing to add, the owner was kind and offered us free beers and beverages for the evening since we were a large party and it's their grand opening week. The waitress was also quite attentive to our requests and patient with my questions. However, the food did come out way too fast and furious. I had to remind them to slow down, which they eventually did. Unfortunately, our group of 12 came for the food and it just didn't hit the spot for most of us. I am more than willing to come back and try more dishes since the service and value is there.

Everything came out great I don't think there are bad options coming out of the kitchen just flavor profile preferences. My highlight was the salted egg corn and minced beef egg drop soup which were just evil how good they were, I'd come back for these alone. We had the fish with peppercorn, fried pork in sweet and sour sauce, sweet potato desert, braised beef with quail eggs etc. I'd suggest all of them as well. We will be back as a group. Check in at the kiosk when you arrive and stay close by--we missed our name being called and had to wait another 30 minutes after an already 2-hour wait for our party of five. Once seated, we understood why it's so popular. The restaurant features a beautiful water wheel, multiple levels of seating, and a lively atmosphere. You customize your meal by choosing your broth, meats, vegetables, and sauces. We started with the spicy broth, but it was overloaded with chili peppers for our taste, so we switched to the herbal broth, which was rich, fragrant, and absolutely delicious. The fresh ingredients were the highlight. We enjoyed the water spinach so much that we ordered three servings. Other favorites included the milky beef, lotus root, beef balls, bean curd sheets, and several other fresh selections. The extensive sauce bar let everyone create their perfect dipping sauce. Considering the generous portions and quality, the prices were very reasonable. The wait is long, but the outstanding food makes it worthwhile. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Flushing.

We choose to sit on the tatami mats, so shoes come off. The tell you to go get your sauces, but don't tell you that there's a $2 charge for them. We got the meeting spicy broth and the mushroom broth. The spicy broth was covered completely in dried red peppers. It definitely infused the food with spice. The broth themselves weren't amazing. They were fine. Their homemade rice wine on the other hand is absolutely delicious. I would go back for that alone. Their snacks, the fried broad beans, and seeds were very good. The cabbage was also delicious and fresh. The duck tongue was absolutely delicious, as were the beef balls. All the mushrooms were very good. The beef tongue was eh... the premium lamb was better. The taro balls took a very long time to cook.. the glass noodles disintegrated in the broth. Overall, the ambiance is what made the meal great, it was cozy and pretty. The broth, the meat were okay. Glad I tried it, but there are better spots for the food hot pot... just not as good of an ambiance as here.

Rice and bowls came with a cat robot which was cute. Sliced beef in sour pepper soup (酸湯肥牛) was decent too. Came in a huge bowl. Yogurt (燈泡酸奶) was good. Soy Garlic Sauce Eggplant (魚香茄子) was skippable. Twin Pepper Braised Fish with Tofu Pudding (豆花鱼) was ok, tofu was really soft! You can order by scanning their QR code when you go in, food comes out fairly quickly. Limited staff so service could be a bit slow - was hard getting the lady's attention when we needed rice or water. Small space with 7-8 tables seating 2-6 per table. Decent option to consider if you like spicy food and are looking to try something new in the area.
