This place is closed, too bad, the food was great! Guess not enough folks felt the same way

We stumbled upon this little gem on vacation while traveling on our way to Lake Erie and Niagara Falls, Ontario. We were actually searching for the local Wegman's and ended up stopping to get gas at Sheetz. (Little Taipei is locate at the far end of the little shopping row behind Sheetz. Don't be put off by the location or size.) We were traveling with our dog, so we opted for carry-out. We started our meal with the cheese wontons and egg rolls...which were both very good. For entrees we ordered the Singapore Chow Mei Fun and House Special Chicken...both were made with very fresh ingredients and good strong flavors. Very delicious!!!! The food portions are good and the prices are reasonable. The sesame chicken was very sweet. It tasted almost the same as the general tsos. If you're ordering soup I would not recommend anything other than the won ton! read more

Ordered tofu general tso to go and got plain fried tofu in a 3-compartment to go container with rice in one and ..... rice soup in another? Was it supposed to be general tso sauce? The tray of rice-soup wasn't so little like the rice spilled into the sauce compartment but too much that it could be a sauce?! I'm confused. It was just so weird. The tofu didn't look like it was cooked in any sauce just dry Fried. Or served in sauce. Like usually it's rice, topped with the traditional 3 pieces of broccoli, the tofu, smothered in sauce. My friend got sweet and sour chicken which was heavy fried like fish and chips. Not a usual somewhat tempora style light coating of batter. Maybe this is just authentic and it's me, but I just don't get it. read more

Got the general tso meal that came with rice and a soup. The general tso was not real general tso. It was sweet, like it had sugar on it. The rice was a soggy mess, completely unappetizing. Egg rolls were meh. Waste of money overall. read more

Haven't ordered from here in years, but we were pleasantly surprised. My boys loved the delicately wrapped cheese wontons...and wanted more. We ordered the Egg rolls, General Tso's chicken, Orange Chicken, Shrimp Lo Mien, Shrimp with Spicy Sauce and Four Seasons Special. Got a lot so we could try a little bit of everything. Can't decide on a favorite for myself, but it was all good. Sauces were tasty and flavorful, but not overly salty. The birthday boy loved the General Tso's and Orange chicken. Give it a try if you haven't had it in a while...we are glad we did! read more

Chinese food is everywhere in LA and it's authentic and delicious. So first thing Erie residents need to know is that this is authentic Chinese and it's wonderful. The General Tso's chicken and Lobster was great. If your comment is that it tastes like bland grease then you probably don't have Chinese taste buds and maybe don't know what grease tastes like, and "sweet" is half of sweet and sour flavor. I also have problems with reviews that are "bad" because of service or waiting too long...it's a family business not fast food McD's and I'll wait longer for better tasting food. Glad to see Erie isn't missing out on great Chinese food. read more

Meh. Maybe caught them on a bad night. I'm visiting Erie for business, saw previous reviews, figured I'd give them a shot. Fried dumplings (take 20 minutes) were tasty, but not exceptional, and small. General Tso's chicken (yeah, it's not the most authentic thing, but it's like comfort food for me), had a pretty heavy batter on the chicken bits. Sauce was tasty, a little light on the ginger. Bad rice, old and under cooked. That's never a good sign. read more

THIS IS THE BEST CHINESE FOOD EVER. Everything is made fresh every morning, and the egg rolls are hand made and fresh by the owner. I suggest the general tsos chicken... It's perfectly crisp on the outside and never over sauced like most Chinese food places you go to! It's a hidden gem in Erie for sure!!!! read more

It is okay, nothing to brag about. The Fried Rice wasn't like fried rice usually is. It appeared as though some rice had soy sauce added and there was one tidbit of egg, no vegetables... The service was prompt. read more

The worst place to get Chinese food. We ordered orange beef and sweet and sour chicken. The only sauce we were given was a very small container of some kind of red sauce. Both dinners were dry as you know what. We got the fried rice which contained only rice just flavored with soy sauce. We ordered the large container of egg drop soup and got a tiny bit of those crackers ( I guess u could call them) not enough for a large container of soup. The orange beef was so crisp like bacon and very dry. Chicken also very dry and no taste at all. I did post pictures of the food we received. Didn't like this place when I tried it a few years ago. Still don't like it. The handmade dumplings smelled foul and were disgusting. The odor lingered throughout the rest of the meal and I didn't eat much more. read more

Meh. Everything pretty much tastes the same - like bland grease. The general tso chicken felt like it was rolled in sugar to make up for the lack of flavor. Shrimp and snow peas were ok but still bland. The big loser was the fried eggplant. Like fried sogginess. Definitely not a return visit type of place for me. read more

Decided to try a different restaurant to satisfy our chinese cravings. Service was quick and staff was nice. However, this was the WORST Chinese food I have ever had. Went with my usual, general tsos with white rice. An easy, popular dish that I get from almost every Chinese place. The rice was definitely minute made. Not sticky, no flavor. The chicken was disgusting. Stringy, dry, 90% breading. I didn't even eat half of it. The sauce was sweet? I've had general tsos that wasn't particularly spicy, but this was sweet- almost like it had honey in it? Overall, will never eat here again. We threw it away and got something else for dinner. read more

Don't come here if you're looking for "fast food Chinese" à la Panda Express. Taipei Kitchen is mainly a take out restaurant, with a few tables for the lunch and dinner worker crowd. You will have to wait for your food, because everything is made from scratch- and it is well worth the wait! Tender (not chewy!) beef. Non-overly sweet sauces. Just refreshing, classic takeout without mounds of salt. And the owners so nice and personable. The place is really clean too. I am proud to support this small business- the food is great. read more

The most legitimate Chinese/ taiwanese food in Erie in my opinion. I always order the Singapore noodles, shrimp and broccoli, and chow mein which is enough to last me 3 meals. Not your ordinary Chinese take out food quality so it's a tad more pricey, but I think the taste is worth it. read more

Everything about our meal was horrible, except the wonton soup. That was good. Not great, maybe a 6/10, but edible. That's where the good news ends. Peppered steak - waaaay too spicy. It was not marked spicy in the menu, and the veggies it came with were more raw than steamed. The general tso's breading was falling off, and the sauce was watery. The taste was just ok, but the presentation was not. The chicken with cashews was swimming in opaque water. Everything was tasteless. Zero spice, chicken appeared to be boiled. The chicken and broccoli sauce was burnt. It smelled horrible and tasted worse. We ate there since we were far from home, and we ate out of takeout containers. We also told the waitress we weren't happy with the food, and she laughed and said "ok. I'll tell somebody." Not to mention everything was sticky, from the door handle to the countertop and all the tables. There was nasty incense being burned in the seating area. There were takeout containers being stored in open boxes IN THE BATHROOM. Never again. read more

They have "thee" BEST sweet n sour chicken/pork. The best I've ever tasted-Just melts in your mouth. Their Chicken Chow Mein also. They make a special order for me with peppercorn. I called in an order and was told 15-20 mins. My husband arrived 30 minutes later and still had to wait. I was hopeful that it was worth it, however I was disappointed in all of the food we ordered, plus they packed the bag so my soup spilled all over the rest of the order, making my egg rolls soggy. read more

I took my daughter to the school in Erie. When I arrived the Little Taipei, I was a little bid skeptical from the bad experience of the previous day in Downtown Erie. This place is tiny with only couple tables mainly serving to go. The lady boss / chef came out and told us she could cook any Taiwanese food for us that is not on the menu. She is super nice and friendly. Because her charm, we gave it a try. It turned out the food was authentic Chinese/Taiwanese that is as good as the best Chinese restaurant in California. We returned the following day. You need to know what to order and how to enjoy the food. Make it simple: just tell the lady boss to prepare the best Taiwanese food and eat it right there; no egg rolls, no General Tso's chicken. they are not Chinese food. If you order a hot dog in a French restaurant, please don't complain. Now my daughter, not a fan of Chinese food, goes to Little Taipei every week. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, because to me there is no such thing as perfect. read more

Very tasty food, but don't come here if your starving. I ordered the sweet and sour shrimp. There was about 8 shrimp with peppers and onions. It was very tasty, but I don't eat pepper or onions so I was still hungry. Flavor was great though. read more

I tend to forget about this place since it's tucked away in a little corner, but when I remember it, boy am I glad! I think this place has the best Chinese in Erie. The portions are good, the owner is nice, and the food just tastes really great. read more

Dolly, the owner has a wonderful restaurant! She serves very fresh, homemade cuisine. Her attention to detail is reflected in her meals. My husband and I have enjoyed her food for years and have NEVER had a bad meal. If you like Asian style food I suggest Little Taipei, you will not be disappointed. read more
