In early modern Britain and Ireland, the punishment for high treason was to be hanged, drawn and quartered. I'll spare you most of the gory details of this punishment, which was meant to deter future traitors with its brutality, apart from the section in which the offender's entrails are burned before his eyes. Having eaten practically nothing all day, and after being turned away from Sanbada for an early closure, my date and I decided to try Mountain House, which she described as "authentic." Several mistakes were made. Principally, because my date is from Hunan, her definition of authenticity is not the kind of "spicy" Szechuan food I've come to love at restaurants like Noah's Kitchen. Instead, it compares to a 1599 incident in which the Jivaro people of modern-day Ecuador executed a corrupt Spanish governor by pouring molten gold down his throat. Starved, I ordered the La-Zi Chicken and shoveled two spoonfuls of it into my mouth, failing to note in the haze of hunger that the despite its name, the dish is at least 80% dried red chili peppers that have evidently been coated with military-grade pepper spray and subjected to a Satanic ritual to add to their flavor. Survivors of gunshot injuries on the battlefield report that because of the flood of intense adrenaline and psychological focus inherent to combat, they often don't feel a bullet wound at all until after the firefight is over. Indeed, for a few blissful seconds, my body communicated nothing but "ahh, food, finally," before lapsing into psychosomatic reenactments of various medieval punishments throughout the ages. As the intense stomach pains, sweating, and tears set in, I looked up to see the waiter, my torturer, standing beside the table. "You look like you're going through it," he grinned, rotating, I am sure, the handles of a rack just out of view. "This isn't even the spiciest thing on the menu, you know." The agony was hardly sufficient to smother my mental image of his same grin glimmering before the red light of dancing flames amid hot coals being shoveled down my throat. Reader, I survived, but just barely. Luckily, the same date who betrayed me to this fate is also a doctor who set two full bottles of Pepto-Bismol next to the couch where she instructed me to lay on my left side in the fetal position. Currently, my toilet is on a leave of absence while it is being treated for PTSD on an in-patient basis; I try to send it sympathy cards, but I don't think it will ever forgive me. Mountain House is not so much a restaurant as it is an experience of these historical events: it demands, like the best high school social studies teachers, that we do not shy away from history's horrors, but face them directly, so that in our humanity we choose definitively not to repeat them. I left these trials with a new appreciation for the suffering that people throughout history have been willing to subject one another to for political or social reasons, and thus recommend it with five stars for anyone who wishes to better understand the depths of human depravity. read more

Mountain House was a solid Sichuan meal. We ordered the sliced beef and tripe in chili oil, Sichuan boiled beef, and Chongqing style spicy chicken. Everything came out flavorful, spicy, and packed with that numbing Sichuan peppercorn kick. The spicy chicken was probably my favorite crispy, well seasoned, and loaded with dried chilies. The boiled beef had a rich, spicy broth and was great with rice. The beef and tripe appetizer was also really good and had a nice balance of chili oil, sesame, peanuts, and that signature mala flavor. Portions were generous and the food definitely delivered if you're looking for authentic, bold Sichuan flavors. Overall, a very good meal and somewhere I'd come back to. read more

This place transported me to a whole other location! I didn't feel like I was in Massachusetts anymore. The decor inside and the quality of their food here takes you away! From the very attentive and supportive staff to the intricate details that they have throughout the restaurant , it is truly transformative experience. As for the food, if you're in the mood of something spicy, especially that Sichuan type of heat, then the beef soup is the one for you! I personally would recommend the green pepper pork because it was absolutely delicious! I could not stop eating it and it was just perfect in every which way! Sichuan Gourmet in Billerica has always been my Boston-area Sichuan touchstone. But Mountain House has it beat. Like a high-end SG with extra care taken in the food presentation and the space. However, Mountain House is VERY spicy, and the dishes tend to be quite large, so be forewarned. Order via a iPad, and then they curiously come back and double check your order. So despite the iPad, service is very good. Unfortunately, I was not excited by their signature Thin Sliced Pork Belly with Cucumber ("hanging pork belly"). Love how immersive this restaurant is! The atmosphere is beautiful and peaceful even while being bustling. The interior design is so well thought and adds to the ambiance of the entire establishment. We went on a weekday night at around 7PM and only had to wait around 20 minutes which was not bad at all especially since we got to enjoy some nice hot tea while we sat and waited. Service was efficient and every dish was dynamite! I was a little disappointed by the fish since I had mistakenly thought it was a different fish but it was still yummy. Mountain House delivers bold, unapologetic Sichuan flavors, and when the dishes hit, they really hit. We ordered a wide spread, and several dishes stood out. The mapo tofu, stir-fried Chinese long beans, and sautéed lily bulbs with snow peas were all excellent--each easily five-star dishes. The mapo tofu had deep, numbing heat and great balance, while the vegetables were perfectly cooked, flavorful, and refreshing amid the heavier dishes. The swinging pork belly with garlic sauce and dumplings in chili oil were solid starters, full of aroma and spice. The la-zi chicken delivered exactly what you'd expect--crispy pieces buried under dried chilies with serious heat. We also tried a beef tripe dish and a shrimp dish loaded with red peppers, both clearly authentic and spice-forward, though better suited for those who truly enjoy intense Sichuan flavors. The fried rice with pickled veggies and bacon was comforting and helped balance out the meal. Where the experience fell short was service. A few items were forgotten and had to be reminded multiple times, which disrupted the pacing of the meal. Staff were polite, but the lag and inconsistency kept this from being a five-star visit. Starting with an iPad menu, our ordering experience with our waiter was subpar. We ended up with extra things ordered that weren't part of our initial order. In good news the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fire and the waiter poured 5 glasses of water for 3 of us. So we could cool down without needing to flag him down. With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. Mountain House is one of the special spots among Chinese restaurants in Boston. Starting with their modern decor, their emphasis on the details, their take on traditional and contemporary Szechuan cuisine, and their tremendously synchronized service between FOH and BOH - all that is unusual for what we know as Chinese cuisine everywhere. Calling them a good spot is such an understatement as I've recommended them to anyone who asks for an amazing Chinese spot to visit. Yes, they are part of my top three Chinese spots in this whole area. I would never hesitate to visit if anyone asked me to join them. Why? Each culinary detail has much thought and technique. Every step is done for a reason and displayed for those with keen eyes to see. It makes me feel like I've been ported to the imperial kitchen tasting dishes that are being perfected for the emperor himself. I really don't need to elaborate on how good the food is. Rather, I will let you judge it for yourself based on their loyal following, the sometimes ridiculous wait times, and the fact that this restaurant is NEVER empty. As much as I hate waiting, like all the other grumbling folk around me in the "lobby" and outside, we still sit tight up to an hour plus at times jealously staring down the other patrons feasting away like rabid fiends. I was really, really bummed to not like Mountain House, but the honest truth is that I had no idea how anyone even finished their meal, let alone liked it. It appears that there is pretty much always a line here--we were seated in a reasonable amount of time, but any wait at all for this experience doesn't seem worth it. We ordered the crispy sizzling tofu and the sour cabbage and fish soup. The dishes don't come with rice, so it needs to be ordered on the side. The redeeming quality here was that the crispy tofu was excellent. It came out steaming hot (temperature-wise), was bursting with flavor, and wasn't soggy at all. I'm no stranger to Szechuan food, but after 2 bites, the fish was nearly completely inedible to me. The dish was so mouth-numbingly spicy that you could hardly feel your lips or tongue, let alone the food. We ended up calling it quits and leaving, even skipping our planned dessert stops. It's possible that there are folks out there who can stomach this quantity of Szechuan peppercorns in their food, but I was so taken aback in part because I'm very accustomed to eating this cuisine, and have never had this issue anywhere else. The restaurant itself feels unique and upscale, with wide booths and pretty dishware. It's pretty busy here so it is somewhat difficult to get service, and ordering is done via mobile device. I've wanted to try Mountain house for years and I finally got a chance to go there during the holiday break. I came in around 4pm for an early dinner and I didn't have to wait. There were plenty of tables open at the time. The restaurant is beautiful. It looks like something from a Chinese movie with the decor. The place setting was also really pretty. They start you off with a pot of hot jasmine tea and a bowl of pickled cabbage while you order on the iPad. I ordered a fish dish, the shrimp, and a pot of rice. You're able to customize the dishes for less spice, less numb, less salt which is a bonus. The food itself was delicious and well seasoned. The shrimp dish had a lot of massive prawns in it and they all tasted very fresh. The mushroom and rice dish was also flavorful and a nice non-spicy dish to pair with the other proteins. Lastly, the fish dish was delicious and not for people who don't have a good spice tolerance. It doesn't feel spicy at first, but it definitely coats your mouth. My family has come here a few times and our prior experience has always been pleasant with authentic food and decent service. However, our experience last night was unexpectedly awful. My wife and I with our two little kids waited around 30min before the receptionist seated us. She asked us about any dietary preference of our kids and mentioned that they will prep kid's meals for them. After our party were seated, my wife and I ordered 4 spicy entrees for ourselves assuming the kids will get their non-spicy kid's meals based on our prior experience here. While our entrees were served one after another over 20min, the kid's meals were not served. We then checked with our waiter and were told that the kid's meals had never been ordered yet. He assured that it would only take 4-5min for the kid's meals to be ready. After waiting another 10min, our kids were fairly hungry and cranky while my wife and I needed to continually comfort them and could not eat our food. At that point, I went to the front desk directly to ask what was going on, but the receptionist told us the kitchen was still prepping the kid's meals. Although this was an oversight from their team, neither the waiter nor the receptionist seemed apologetic or attentive to the service their restaurant takes pride in. Some customers may not care as much about the service and come here for the authentic Szechuan food. Ironically, when the kid's meals were finally served and my wife and I could start eating, we found that our dinner was already ruined: the crispy sizzling tofu was cold and soggy, and the mushroom & beef stone pot rice was not properly mixed, leaving uneven flavors on the ingredients plus a soggy charred layer of scorched rice at the bottom of the pot. Interestingly, our waiter did not attempt to check in with us after our food was served. We had to grab the receptionist when she passed by, asking her to help us get the check and pack the leftover (and she agreed to help). As 10min passed and no one came to help us, we had to head to the front desk to pay. The funny thing is, after the payment was processed, the receptionist asked us if we wanted the leftover food packed, which she agreed to help earlier but completely forgot about. I was mad about the entire experience so I only tiped 10% but I felt sorry for their hard working kitchen staff who strived to get the cuisines to their customers diligently. I'm hoping this is a one-off given their proven record in the past, but I have witnessed many decent restaurants that declined over the years after they started to lower their standard. While I'm still open to coming back here, this horrendous experience may always make me hesitant to consider it my top choice. read more

Beautiful space and strong, dynamic Sichuan flavors in every dish, spicy in all, numbing in most, and very different flavors in the different dishes, even when they look very similar. Tried ten dishes over two visits. La Zi Chicken (aka Chongqing Chicken and Dry Hot Chicken): Crisp pieces, though smaller than the juicier ones I prefer at Lan Feast, but a solid dish overall. Like most renditions, way more dried red peppers than meat, but this was more of a meat deficiency than most. Well above average though. Long Beans (aka String Beans): Possibly the best version I ever tasted. Perfectly cooked, with soft crumbly meat added, and scintillatingly spiced, including just the right amount of sodium to make it pop. Elite. Szechuan Shredded Pork: Very tender worm-shaped shreds, with vegetables and a spicy brown sauce. A little too gloppy for my liking, but delicious. Above average. Sizzling Tofu: Nicely presented on a board, but not sizzling at all. Crisp exterior and marshmallowy texture to the very delicate interior. We toned down the spice for my wife, so I won't comment on flavor. Stir Fried Cabbage: Retained some crispness and had some pleasant flavor to the light sauce. Simple but effective. Inclusion of meat was a surprise. Above average. Yibin Noodles: Cold, thick, and peanutty, with spiciness, making for a pleasant start. Ma Po Tofu: Tender, wobbly cubes in a fiery oil with other spices, herbs, and what I suspect are bits of meat. Spice under control and slightly salty in a good way. Well above average to near-elite. Ma Ma Hot Fish: Extra tender black fish in a spicy and sour broth with double the numbing action. Captivatingly successful in flavor and texture. Similar to another favorite at Yunnan Kitchen elsewhere, and I'm eager to return there to compare. Near-elite to elite. Ma La Beef: Thin strips of beef in a thick but oily red liquid with assertive red chili peppers. Decent texture; great flavor. Near-elite. Grilled Beef Rib with Steamed Buns: The most visually impressive dish, with attempted theater at the table. The slightly tough and fatty rib meat cut from the bone was a nice respite from the heat, but was ultimately a misfire in its flavor and texture. Fun experience, though, making beef sandwiches with the bao, scallion, cucumber, and two sauces. A little tough to order via QR code and cellphone, but flexible in that you can alter spice and numbing levels and omit ingredients if needed. I missed a few meat removals on vegetable dishes that didn't mention meat in the name-- you really have to study the fine print. Still much more on the menu left to try. If you like SPICY (and I mean REALLY like spicy) then this place will be your jam. If you DON'T like spicy foods, then be prepared for a more limited experience! Items we ordered (as of 7/2025) - MaPo Tofu - $16 - Dear lord this is probably the spiciest mapo tofu I've ever had. That being said, if you like that mala spicy taste then this will be highly recommended. Tofu is was cooked perfectly and while spicy, it's quite doable IF you take your time. - Sweet and Sour Pork - $21 - While pricey, this is probably one of the best sweet and sour pork I've had. The pork is perfectly breaded and very tender. Best part? It helps counter all that spice! I would 100% get this again. - Sauteed Chinese Long Beans w/ Eggplant - $15 - For this price this was an excellent dish both in quantity and quality. A bit of a kick in here but it really helps elevate this dish. I would get this again. - Bamboo Beef Rice - $20 - While on the pricey side, this dish was EXCELLENT. The beef was perfectly seared and super tender and the fried rice was absolutely delicious. Only negative? It didn't come in a bamboo bowl like the picture showed :/ - Teppan Shrimp - $24 - For the price we wouldn't get this again. While the shrimp is large, you only get 6 of them and they are fully shelled which made eating them not very convenient. There is also a BUTTLOAD of garlic here (no kisses after eating this). I may consider getting this again if they deshelled the shrimp and gave you way more of it (I'd say at least double). There's also complimentary cabbage in a spicy oil (emphasis on spicy) and their complimentary tea is also surprisingly good! Overall we were quite happy with our meal for the most part and would definitely come back. The service was also impeccable and on point. I made a reservation for 6 people One Month in advance (in fact, today is my birthday) expecting a comfortable dining setup for my group. However, upon arrival, we were squeezed into a table clearly designed for 4 people. When we pointed this out, the staff insisted it was a '6-person table' and refused to move us to the larger tables available, claiming those were reserved for 7-8 people. This is inconsistent and unprofessional, as we have been seated at those larger tables with a group of 6 before. What's the point of making a reservation so far in advance if the restaurant can't provide adequate seating? The lack of flexibility and the dismissive attitude of the staff ruined our evening. We were in Boston- looking for lunch, and decided to try this restaurant. We could tell this was a popular local restaurant. The decor is chic with nice mood lighting. Very attentive staff. The meal started with hot tea. We ordered their popular pork belly. The presentation was lovely- it was my first time having it served in this fashion. The dipping sauce was great. We also ordered an okra salad- again, the preparation was totally different, and the flavors were great. While it's not totally uncommon to see trotter soup on a menu, we've never had pig feet prepared that way- it was a snowy day, so we decided to give it a try. I can't lie- using chopsticks to pick up pig feet was a little challenging- but we worked it out as gracefully as we could. The dipping sauce completely elevated the dish. We walked in on a Friday night around 830 and were fortunate there was 1 table open in a packed restaurant! Highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Be prepared for a mix of spices, oils, and mouth-watering and numbing tastes at Mountain House! We had the jimmy noodles - surprisingly tasty for cold noodles with peanuts, oil, and a little chilly. The Ma Ma flounder fish was so soft it literally slides down your throat. Do not underestimate the size, It is a large main dish to share for three people! The baseline flavor is spicy, so go with "less spicy" if you have a calm palate. The Kung Pao chicken is unique for it's sweet flavor, is practically a dessert for a main dish. And the mapo tofu is a must try if you like tofu! A mix of spicy and tangy seasoning and also a very good portion..the jasmine water here is a refreshing and different than other places, be sure to enjoy! read more

Our server was nice. Hostess seemed flustered. The majority of the food was sooooo salty! We had a lot of leftovers for this reason. I will add that the mala sensation does tend to alter your tastebuds a bit. So certain foods or drinks may taste different. Still...some dishes were way too salty. Mountain House has been on my list of restaurants to try since its opening. We did not make a reservation so we had to join a waitlist through a tablet near the host stand. We were told the wait could be as long as two hours so we decided to grab a drink at a restaurant nearby. The wait ended up being closer to one hour in actuality. Next time, I would call ahead to make a reservation. I also heard the host telling incoming patrons that the waitlist was closed ~2 hours before close, so if you want a guaranteed spot I would recommend making a reservation. Upon being seated, we were given a complimentary teapot full of the most fragrant jasmine tea - it is one of the best teas I have ever had in a restaurant. We ordered the swinging pork belly, diced chicken with lotus root, fried rice with pickles and bacon, and teppan shrimp. Our server let us know that the kitchen was taking longer than usual due to an issue with the dishwasher, although I didn't feel that we had to wait long for our food at all. To make up for the longer wait times, we were given a choice of a free dessert and we decided to go with the sweet drunken jelly. All of the food was absolutely delicious. As a lover of Sichuan food, my favorite dish was the diced chicken dish. The portion sizes were pretty large, so I was excited to have leftovers to take home. If you want spicy then this place is it. They don't skimp on the peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, yet keep it at a level that is still enjoyable. Most dishes they were able to accommodate modifications so it wouldn't include meat though did have one noodle dish that they said they couldn't when they were able to before.... Otherwise fair portions/large some dishes. Also they let us bring a birthday cake, stored it, lit the candles then also brought a dessert afterwards too. The restaurant itself is well decorated and a little nicer looking than many of its counterparts nearby. It is a popular place so be prepared to wait for up to or more than an hour especially on weekend nights. I've heard so many great things about Mountain House lately, so you know I had to give it a try! First of all, I adore the interior aesthetic, quite beautiful! A minimalistic approach, yet still unique & feels like you're not even in Boston/Allston haha. They've got a pretty extensive menu here and definitely had a bunch of dishes that I wanted to try such as the crab and lobster dishes, however, we were not entirely in the mood for it. We ended up ordering the following dishes to try: -Grilled Beef Ribs w/ Steamed Buns -Pickled Cabbage Fish (flounder) -Sweet & Sour Pork -Stir Fried Chinese Long Beans I loved the concept of the grilled beef ribs w/ steamed buns. Very similar to ordering Peking duck buns, just different meat & they give you cucumbers, sauce, and scallions, as they would for duck, to assemble your bun! They do tableside service for this dish & torch the beef for you. I noticed that they do that for many other dishes, not all, as well. I really enjoyed the pickled cabbage fish. It's one of my favorite fish dishes to order because the soup is always very tasty and full of good flavor. I recommend this dish if you like drinking soups; it's delicious and not too spicy. The stir fried string beans were tasty and pretty standard. My least favorite dish was the sweet & sour pork. It lacked some flavor that I was hoping for. We ended up taking the pork home and remaking it. Overall, I had a pretty enjoyable meal at Mountain House. The servers are very attentive and quick. The food does take a bit long to come out but the food was delicious. I would most definitely come back again and want to try their crab w/ sticky rice dish, as well as tofu dish. read more

Overall:Mountain House offers a great selection of Sichuan dishes with bold, authentic flavors and plenty of variety. Some dishes stood out more than others, but overall it was a satisfying meal, especially for sharing with a group. Service:Service was okay overall. We waited quite a while to be seated, and several parties the same size who arrived after us were seated first, which was a bit frustrating. However, the staff was kind and thoughtful as they surprised our table with a complimentary dessert for my friend's birthday, which we really appreciated and helped end the meal on a positive note. Dumplings in Chili Oil (Pork):Very spicy with a strong chili oil kick, definitely for spice lovers. It was too spicy for me. Lazi Chicken (with Bones):One of my favorite dishes of the night. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and impressively not greasy despite being fried. Mapo Tofu:Not my favorite. The Sichuan peppercorn flavor was quite overpowering and overly numbing for my taste. Mala Prawns (with Shells):Flavor was decent, but personally I'm not a fan of peeling shrimp while eating, which made it less enjoyable. Diced Chicken with Lotus Roots (with Bones):Solid dish but not particularly memorable compared to some of the standouts. Overall: this is the luxury Chinese dining experience. Top quality food and a nice ambience makes this not your average Chinese restaurant. Food: Sichuan boiled fish (very spicy) was in fact very spicy. You get to choose between two kinds of fish and they don't skimp on the quantity. The cucumbers are an odd addition though. It is in fact very numbingly spicy. The green beans are a classic and is already making my mouth water just thinking about them. I'd highly recommend trying at least these two. The pickled cabbage at the start is a nice palette starter that already gets you sweating. Ambience/Decor/Service: the decor with the water fountain near the middle, the traditional wooden chairs, and the dark lighting make you feel like you're in a Chinese drama. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner so we got to try a pretty wide spread of dishes. I get that it's a Sichuan-style restaurant, but a lot of them leaned heavily on the peppercorn numbing without much depth to back it up. The wontons were probably my favorite, reminding me a lot of xiao long bao in flavor, especially with the really fragrant chili oil that had both spice and aroma. The fried rice was super clean with distinct grains, and it ended up being a really nice break from all the heavier, numbing dishes. The eggplant was another standout, very tender, rich and savory. On the other hand, a few dishes were pretty disappointing. The cucumber pork is arguably their most popular dish, but it was basically flavorless and slightly dry, to the point where even the sauce couldn't save it. The beef soup and fish soup also felt kind of thrown together, like it was just protein sitting in numbing broth without much else going on. So we been meaning to try this spot, what better day than a rainy ahhh day. It's super clean and nice inside, definitely feels like authentic sichuan food! Tables were large, plenty of space for all your dishes. We ordered the following: + grilled rib beef with steam buns + Szechuan cabbage and fish (flounder) + sweet sour pork + Szechuan stir fry long beans The long beans were amply seasoned, enjoyable and easy to eat, the veggie wasn't super hard, texture and bite had a crisp break. The grilled beef is presented table side with some fire and staff will heat the rib meat up over the fire for show. Not technically flambé, they use tongs and hold it over the flame for a few each piece. It would be nice if they had a hot stone to cook it more on or something. I thought making your open face bao and dip was good, but u think i prefer Peking duck style baos! The fish and cabbage was probably my favorite from our selection, though our waitress said the black fish is better, i actually LIKE flounder. The broth was yummy, had some spice that worked well with the sour. Drank a couple bowls of just broth! The sweet and sour pork wasn't my cup of tea, I'm used to canto style sauce that's a but more salty. This was straight sweet (yes i know it's sweet and sour pork) but it gave straight orange chicken flavor profile. We took that home and redid the sauce with some spice and that made it much better. This place is very special. It's very elegant and beautiful inside with the traditional Chinese garden style. Service was excellent. Food, omg, absolutely fabulous!! Don't, please don't, don't order extra spicy unless you're from Si Chuan and very familiar with the local cuisine. When they say it is authentic Sichuan style food they are not joking about it. The food was so well presented, and the flavor was absolutely divine. The line outside the restaurant was very, very, very long. Why you think people waited that long? Finally went after walking by every single day and WOW it was good. The ambiance inside is like no other restaurant I've been to and I loved it. They have you order on tablets which I appreciated since I needed to see pictures to understand a lot of the dishes (not super familiar with szechuan food). I ordered the swing pork belly as an appetizer which came with an amazing dipping sauce and had such a fun presentation. We then went with the lazi chicken, crispy sizzling tofu, and fried noodles. The only thing that I got "less spicy" was the crispy tofu, but not sure if I needed that. The lazi chicken appears to be one of their spicier dishes (literally comes on a pile of peppers) but the heat only sticks around for a few seconds before your mouth sort of becomes numb. It was super interesting and let me enjoy the flavor of the dish without needing to chug water immediately. Overall I had a great experience and will be coming back! read more

This place has very nice ambiance and authentic Sichuan flavors. Service is pretty attentive, and you order via iPad. I do wish more of the dishes listed on the menu had expanded descriptions and/or pictures. We got the cold pork appetizer which was a little underwhelming and bland. I really ended up enjoying this sweet and sour pork dish. The cabbage dish was a standout too. Of note, I came with my parents and they did the ordering, so I'm not sure of some of the names of what we got. I think we did get the lazhi chicken which was good, and the prawns were similar but a little dry. We also got the mushroom and beef fried rice. It was okay, but I feel like when most dishes are already spicy, the rice dish should be a complement to the other dishes and not be spiced. The eggplant was good. A lot of the desserts were sold out which was a bummer, but of the two we got I liked the milky osmanthus one better. I would come again and maybe try the crab rice dish next time. read more

My boyfriend and I went to mountain house for his birthday. The food was really good and the restaurant was very nice. The restaurant was quiet and had a nice atmosphere. The servers were very helpful with informing us on what we should try since it was our first time there. The la-zi chicken was our favorite. It was our first time trying food with a numbing spice. If you're not used to numbing spice, definitely get less spicy foods. My boyfriend and I are generally good with spicy foods but the numbing spice was a different experience. read more
