    Limited Street Parking The food made up for the wait time but it was very long. This place was packed, we came in no reservation and the wait time they told us just kept getting longer. We eventually were able to get in, there is a small space to wait with snacks though. Once our table was almost ready the host allowed us to order and once sat it came almost right away. We ordered the la-xi chicken with less spice, this has small crispy chicken pieces and lot of peppers, had to go in and pick out the little pieces. Truthfully wish it was less pepper and more chicken especially $23.95. The mapo tofu was delicious the perfect numbing sensation that I love. A must try dish was the fish fillet with crispy rice. This was $34 but it is perfect for cold day. They bring this dish out pour the soup on top and let it boil until the crispy gets cooked. We got the green beans as well, pretty standard nothing special. We got a little discount as well, I think for a late night special. The entire meal came with tea and the restaurant had calm setting with wooden interior

    Love how immersive this restaurant is! The atmosphere is beautiful and peaceful even while being bustling. The interior design is so well thought and adds to the ambiance of the entire establishment. We went on a weekday night at around 7PM and only had to wait around 20 minutes which was not bad at all especially since we got to enjoy some nice hot tea while we sat and waited. Service was efficient and every dish was dynamite! I was a little disappointed by the fish since I had mistakenly thought it was a different fish but it was still yummy. Highlights were the fried rice with special szeuchan greens and the mapo tofu!

    Mountain House delivers bold, unapologetic Sichuan flavors, and when the dishes hit, they really hit. We ordered a wide spread, and several dishes stood out. The mapo tofu, stir-fried Chinese long beans, and sautéed lily bulbs with snow peas were all excellent--each easily five-star dishes. The mapo tofu had deep, numbing heat and great balance, while the vegetables were perfectly cooked, flavorful, and refreshing amid the heavier dishes. The swinging pork belly with garlic sauce and dumplings in chili oil were solid starters, full of aroma and spice. The la-zi chicken delivered exactly what you'd expect--crispy pieces buried under dried chilies with serious heat. We also tried a beef tripe dish and a shrimp dish loaded with red peppers, both clearly authentic and spice-forward, though better suited for those who truly enjoy intense Sichuan flavors. The fried rice with pickled veggies and bacon was comforting and helped balance out the meal. Where the experience fell short was service. A few items were forgotten and had to be reminded multiple times, which disrupted the pacing of the meal. Staff were polite, but the lag and inconsistency kept this from being a five-star visit. Overall, Mountain House is a great destination if you like Sichuan cuisine.

    Mountain House is one of the special spots among Chinese restaurants in Boston. Starting with their modern decor, their emphasis on the details, their take on traditional and contemporary Szechuan cuisine, and their tremendously synchronized service between FOH and BOH - all that is unusual for what we know as Chinese cuisine everywhere. Calling them a good spot is such an understatement as I've recommended them to anyone who asks for an amazing Chinese spot to visit. Yes, they are part of my top three Chinese spots in this whole area. I would never hesitate to visit if anyone asked me to join them. Why? Each culinary detail has much thought and technique. Every step is done for a reason and displayed for those with keen eyes to see. It makes me feel like I've been ported to the imperial kitchen tasting dishes that are being perfected for the emperor himself. I really don't need to elaborate on how good the food is. Rather, I will let you judge it for yourself based on their loyal following, the sometimes ridiculous wait times, and the fact that this restaurant is NEVER empty. As much as I hate waiting, like all the other grumbling folk around me in the "lobby" and outside, we still sit tight up to an hour plus at times jealously staring down the other patrons feasting away like rabid fiends.     I was really, really bummed to not like Mountain House, but the honest truth is that I had no idea how anyone even finished their meal, let alone liked it. It appears that there is pretty much always a line here--we were seated in a reasonable amount of time, but any wait at all for this experience doesn't seem worth it. We ordered the crispy sizzling tofu and the sour cabbage and fish soup. The dishes don't come with rice, so it needs to be ordered on the side. The redeeming quality here was that the crispy tofu was excellent. It came out steaming hot (temperature-wise), was bursting with flavor, and wasn't soggy at all. I'm no stranger to Szechuan food, but after 2 bites, the fish was nearly completely inedible to me. The dish was so mouth-numbingly spicy that you could hardly feel your lips or tongue, let alone the food. We ended up calling it quits and leaving, even skipping our planned dessert stops. It's possible that there are folks out there who can stomach this quantity of Szechuan peppercorns in their food, but I was so taken aback in part because I'm very accustomed to eating this cuisine, and have never had this issue anywhere else. The restaurant itself feels unique and upscale, with wide booths and pretty dishware. It's pretty busy here so it is somewhat difficult to get service, and ordering is done via mobile device. A manager did stop by to chat with us, especially after we mentioned it was our first time, but when we wanted to ask for something specific it took a while to find a server.

    I've wanted to try Mountain house for years and I finally got a chance to go there during the holiday break. I came in around 4pm for an early dinner and I didn't have to wait. There were plenty of tables open at the time. The restaurant is beautiful. It looks like something from a Chinese movie with the decor. The place setting was also really pretty. They start you off with a pot of hot jasmine tea and a bowl of pickled cabbage while you order on the iPad. I ordered a fish dish, the shrimp, and a pot of rice. You're able to customize the dishes for less spice, less numb, less salt which is a bonus. The food itself was delicious and well seasoned. The shrimp dish had a lot of massive prawns in it and they all tasted very fresh. The mushroom and rice dish was also flavorful and a nice non-spicy dish to pair with the other proteins. Lastly, the fish dish was delicious and not for people who don't have a good spice tolerance. It doesn't feel spicy at first, but it definitely coats your mouth. Everything was very good and the service was great as well. Very attentive staff and they were able to help through out my time there.

    Our server was nice. Hostess seemed flustered. The majority of the food was sooooo salty! We had a lot of leftovers for this reason. I will add that the mala sensation does tend to alter your tastebuds a bit. So certain foods or drinks may taste different. Still...some dishes were way too salty. The pea sprouts were prepared well though. The sweet and sour pork was good too. It was nice to have a contrast of flavor, compared to all the spicy and salty dishes. Side note, the tablet was a bit annoying to use. The menu design was aesthetically pleasing but not practical. They seem to be doing well though. Unfortunately, about 6 or so items were sold out/not available.

    Disappointing Service & Poor Seating Arrangement Extremely disappointed with our experience here. I made a reservation for 6 people One Month in advance (in fact, today is my birthday) expecting a comfortable dining setup for my group. However, upon arrival, we were squeezed into a table clearly designed for 4 people. When we pointed this out, the staff insisted it was a '6-person table' and refused to move us to the larger tables available, claiming those were reserved for 7-8 people. This is inconsistent and unprofessional, as we have been seated at those larger tables with a group of 6 before. What's the point of making a reservation so far in advance if the restaurant can't provide adequate seating? The lack of flexibility and the dismissive attitude of the staff ruined our evening. For a place like Mountain House, I expected much better service. Will not be coming back anytime soon."

    We were in Boston- looking for lunch, and decided to try this restaurant. We could tell this was a popular local restaurant. The decor is chic with nice mood lighting. Very attentive staff. The meal started with hot tea. We ordered their popular pork belly. The presentation was lovely- it was my first time having it served in this fashion. The dipping sauce was great. We also ordered an okra salad- again, the preparation was totally different, and the flavors were great. While it's not totally uncommon to see trotter soup on a menu, we've never had pig feet prepared that way- it was a snowy day, so we decided to give it a try. I can't lie- using chopsticks to pick up pig feet was a little challenging- but we worked it out as gracefully as we could. The dipping sauce completely elevated the dish. Everything was very good.

    Beautiful space and strong, dynamic Sichuan flavors in every dish, spicy in all, numbing in most, and very different flavors in the different dishes, even when they look very similar. Tried ten dishes over two visits. La Zi Chicken (aka Chongqing Chicken and Dry Hot Chicken): Crisp pieces, though smaller than the juicier ones I prefer at Lan Feast, but a solid dish overall. Like most renditions, way more dried red peppers than meat, but this was more of a meat deficiency than most. Well above average though. Long Beans (aka String Beans): Possibly the best version I ever tasted. Perfectly cooked, with soft crumbly meat added, and scintillatingly spiced, including just the right amount of sodium to make it pop. Elite. Szechuan Shredded Pork: Very tender worm-shaped shreds, with vegetables and a spicy brown sauce. A little too gloppy for my liking, but delicious. Above average. Sizzling Tofu: Nicely presented on a board, but not sizzling at all. Crisp exterior and marshmallowy texture to the very delicate interior. We toned down the spice for my wife, so I won't comment on flavor. Stir Fried Cabbage: Retained some crispness and had some pleasant flavor to the light sauce. Simple but effective. Inclusion of meat was a surprise. Above average. Yibin Noodles: Cold, thick, and peanutty, with spiciness, making for a pleasant start. Ma Po Tofu: Tender, wobbly cubes in a fiery oil with other spices, herbs, and what I suspect are bits of meat. Spice under control and slightly salty in a good way. Well above average to near-elite. Ma Ma Hot Fish: Extra tender black fish in a spicy and sour broth with double the numbing action. Captivatingly successful in flavor and texture. Similar to another favorite at Yunnan Kitchen elsewhere, and I'm eager to return there to compare. Near-elite to elite. Ma La Beef: Thin strips of beef in a thick but oily red liquid with assertive red chili peppers. Decent texture; great flavor. Near-elite. Grilled Beef Rib with Steamed Buns: The most visually impressive dish, with attempted theater at the table. The slightly tough and fatty rib meat cut from the bone was a nice respite from the heat, but was ultimately a misfire in its flavor and texture. Fun experience, though, making beef sandwiches with the bao, scallion, cucumber, and two sauces. A little tough to order via QR code and cellphone, but flexible in that you can alter spice and numbing levels and omit ingredients if needed. I missed a few meat removals on vegetable dishes that didn't mention meat in the name-- you really have to study the fine print. Still much more on the menu left to try. Still a bit underwhelmed by the service. There's no rudeness or attitude; just a noticeable lack of initiative and focus. Not a showstopper by any means.

    Service by Vincent was 5/5 stars. Also incense and having women's sanitary products in the restroom is a very nice touch. Standout from tonight was the fried tofu. The peppercorns reallllly numb up your mouth in a way that far exceeds any other place.

    We walked in on a Friday night around 830 and were fortunate there was 1 table open in a packed restaurant! Highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Be prepared for a mix of spices, oils, and mouth-watering and numbing tastes at Mountain House! We had the jimmy noodles - surprisingly tasty for cold noodles with peanuts, oil, and a little chilly. The Ma Ma flounder fish was so soft it literally slides down your throat. Do not underestimate the size, It is a large main dish to share for three people! The baseline flavor is spicy, so go with "less spicy" if you have a calm palate. The Kung Pao chicken is unique for it's sweet flavor, is practically a dessert for a main dish. And the mapo tofu is a must try if you like tofu! A mix of spicy and tangy seasoning and also a very good portion..the jasmine water here is a refreshing and different than other places, be sure to enjoy!

    Overall:Mountain House offers a great selection of Sichuan dishes with bold, authentic flavors and plenty of variety. Some dishes stood out more than others, but overall it was a satisfying meal, especially for sharing with a group. Service:Service was okay overall. We waited quite a while to be seated, and several parties the same size who arrived after us were seated first, which was a bit frustrating. However, the staff was kind and thoughtful as they surprised our table with a complimentary dessert for my friend's birthday, which we really appreciated and helped end the meal on a positive note. Swing Pork Belly:Light, refreshing, and a great starter. The flavors were balanced and not too heavy, making it a nice contrast to the richer dishes. Dumplings in Chili Oil (Pork):Very spicy with a strong chili oil kick, definitely for spice lovers. It was too spicy for me. Lazi Chicken (with Bones):One of my favorite dishes of the night. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and impressively not greasy despite being fried. Mapo Tofu:Not my favorite. The Sichuan peppercorn flavor was quite overpowering and overly numbing for my taste. Mala Prawns (with Shells):Flavor was decent, but personally I'm not a fan of peeling shrimp while eating, which made it less enjoyable. Diced Chicken with Lotus Roots (with Bones):Solid dish but not particularly memorable compared to some of the standouts. Sichuan Style Fried Noodles:My favorite dish overall as it was deeply savory, comforting, and packed with flavor. Final Thoughts:A good spot for classic Sichuan cuisine with bold spice and shareable plates. The complimentary birthday dessert was a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel special.

They were complaining about it in the front desk and I heard it. I ordered the soda after the meals came, they didn't like it either. One of the waitress pushed another waitress and said, I don't want to go to grab. The other waitress said, I don't want to go either. If they don't like to work or they don't like servicing people, they don't have to work as waitresses. I don't understand why the owner hired them or maybe the owner agreed what they do? I ordered the food from chowbus. They just delivered the food out. They even asked for at least 15% tips? They didn't even want to deliver my soda or rice, they asked me to tip them??? DONT GO IF YOU WANT TO HAVE SERVICE DONT GO IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A HAPPY DINNER

Overall, we have enjoyed every meal we've had here and could not recommend it enough. Service is also solid and boxing your meal results in a super fun packaging that is easy to transport. If you're able to tolerate spicy food, I'd recommend trying the Sichuan broth since that's what they specialize in. The tomato broth was a bit underwhelming and reminded me of American-style tomato soup. We also ordered the crispy fried pork belly and takoyaki. The crispy pork belly was definitely the standout--I highly recommend it! It came with a flavorful dry spice seasoning for dipping that made it even better. Overall, the portions are generous, and you'll definitely leave with a full belly!

Even though the restaurant was super super busy, a lot of people waiting for a seat, and there was only one server, a very friendly man, we had water refilled and all the dishes arrived quickly. The service was great. Because the food was so good, many people willing to wait for a seat. I love the small busy restaurant kind of ambience. I will definitely go back soon!

    A solid Chinese restaurant for the area. I have been to its Weymouth location. Not sure if this…read morelocation is newer than Weymouth or not. Limited street parking out front, but there are more street metered parking on the side street (next to the green line). The restaurant is much smaller than the Weymouth location, and the menu selection is also different. The server asked me to scan the QR code on the table for the menu, so I'm not sure if they have a paper menu. You can place the order directly via the QR code. I requested one dish to be non-spicy, and they were able to accommodate that. The only thing was that both dishes were a little bit too salty than my liking. I came here during a weekday lunch, and it wasn't super busy. I would return again.
