I live local and this place meets my needs for quick fresh food. I always get it to go. While I have ever eaten there I give them four stars for the quick service , tasty food and portions. I was at the Kittery Outlets and decided to try this restaurant . Placed the order online for boneless spare ribs, chicken fingers, beef teriyaki on a stick and pork fried rice. It was ready for me when I got there. The woman at the cash register was friendly and smiling. Got home and discovered they put in egg rolls instead of the chicken fingers. Picked up my phone to call and saw they tried to call me. Called them back and she was so apologetic . We arranged for me to pick up the chicken fingers the day after. My husband enjoyed what we had gotten and everything was delicious- even the egg rolls, haha! Got the chicken fingers the next day and again, the woman was wonderful. We had a Birthday Party for my wife this past Sunday. I asked her what she was thinking for food to serve (we had 18 people attending) and she said Chinese Food from Kittery (Chun Ping Lau). We've eaten there several times in the recent past and never been disappointed with our meals. We have many Chinese food locations around our area, but they don't compare to the food at Chun Ping Lau. It's a 40-minute drive from Epping to there but well worth the trip. The Chicken Fingers, Boneless Spareribs, Pork fried rice, Chicken Lo Mein and General Tso's chicken were all Excellent. The portions we got were Very generous. Several of our family members happily took home leftovers as everyone was quite pleased with the quality of the food. The staff there is Great, very friendly and helpful. Pleasant stop for a quick in and out late lunch when shopping the Kittery Outlets in Maine. Service and hospitality was exemplary; the onlong tea was a welcome surprise on a cold rainy day . The wonton soup was very good with a variety of fresh vegetables and three wontons. I prefer the lighter style broth but this was actually very good. The Szechaun chicken was tasty with a nice spice kick and generous assortment of vegetables. I never order chicken fingers, they just never have interested me but they came with the dish and were surprisingly good. The one disappointment was the fried rice it was lacking flavor, no bean sprouts or egg with very little pork. It wasn't horrible, it just needed quite a bit of work to be elevated to where it should be. Still in all everything else was done very well. read more

Chun Ping Lau is located along Route 1 just north of the outlets in Kittery. Each time I've driven by this place. I've seen a steady flow of customers here. I decided to check the place out for dinner takeout. Chun Ping Lau has a pretty good menu and offers Cantonese and Saechuan dishes including moo shi, yu hsiang dishes, curry shrimp, lemon chicken, and much more, as well as 36 All Day Combination Plates ($4.75-$7.25), most served with pork fried rice. They also offer pad Thai and Japanese udon noodles. They also have several tofu dishes served with steamed rice. The place inside is order at the counter with open kitchen and several tables for dining-in. Free hot tea is offered and there's also outside picnic table seating alongside the building. I wanted some basic appetizers so I decided on Chicken Fingers, Chicken Teriyaki, Crab Rangoon with a side of pork fried rice ($6.95 plus tax) and I sip on some hot tea to refresh up. The food was ready in under 10 minutes, plastic utensils provided, but grab your own sauces and fortune cookies. The 2 chicken teriyaki sticks were tender and very good. The crab rangoons had a good proportion of cream cheese and minced crab (imitation). The chicken fingers with boneless chicken strips and the crispy batter not too thick. The pork fried rice (light brown color) was standard, with some fatty pork cubes. The portion of food was fair for the price. Overall, the food was very enjoyable, better than many places near me. Ordered a variety of dishes on 5/3 and was unsure of what we would be getting especially with the epidemic going on. Very little to complain about, everything was hot, tasty, and appealing to the eye. I personally like a thick spicy hot and sour soup, loaded with different ingredients, maybe it's the way they know how to make it, but I live only a few miles away and by the time I returned home the soup was watery and not very spicy hot, nothing I can't fix at home. Chun Ping Lau is definitely trying to please as wide an audience as they can, and I think they're doing it pretty well. The menu is extensive. If you can think of a chinese food you want, it'll probably be on the menu (with the exception of ma po tofu - but I bet if we asked for it, they'd make it for us). They also feature many of the most popular (in the US) asian dishes from other cultures - teriyaki, pad thai, vietnamese spring rolls, udon noodles, etc. We covered a few cuisines with spring rolls, chicken pad thai, chow fun noodles, char siu ding and vegetarian szechuan noodles. Everything was cooked quickly, and you can watch the progress in the kitchen across the counter. It's a family vibe, with many generations working together. They're super efficient, and our food was done in about 10 minutes. Got home, opened everything up -- veggie spring rolls were kinda boring, but I think they'd be great with a meat addition (maybe add fried tofu strips or something to the veg version - or I've had them with pineapple, which is pretty tasty) -- the chili oil served with them was great. Not too hot, not cloyingly sweet. The pad thai was on par with others in the area, with a slightly spicy sauce that I really liked, and noodles that were cooked properly - not overdone and gummy. The other two noodles dishes were also cooked well, with a decent array of vegetables. The chow fun had less sauce than we're used to, but I threw the char siu over it and it rounded them out nicely. The char siu was sliced nice and thick, with lots of celery, peppers, snow peas and other veggies - a little more meat would've made it more balanced, but it was still a great amount of food for the price. I'd highly recommend this place - it's inexpensive enough to get an entree or two you might not have had before to share across the table family style, and I love supporting family-run businesses that take pride in their work like the family at Chun Ping Lau. read more

Egg rolls were excellent not greasy, hot and sour soup was ok, be nice to get a few fried wonton strips with it, orange chicken dinner plate was a generous portion, and the chicken wings were very good. Let's see if they can sustain it. Also check for MSG I had a bit of a headache about an hour or two after eating and I don't often get headaches. I have been buying food from this restaurant for nearly 20 years. The owners know our names by the sound of our voices and this is because we order there so much. Their Moo Goo Gai Pan, Beef fried rice and Chicken fingers are awesome. General Tsao's Chicken is also awesome. The food is made of high quality ingredients and the restaurant is super clean. The family who runs this is very, very nice. If you are not happy with their food say something because this is the exception, not the norm. They are the type of people who would happily cook something to your exact taste, I love this place and when I moved from Kittery to South Berwick, this was the thing I missed the most! Let me begin by saying that having grown up in NYC, I have eaten from many Chinese take-out places. This is by far the worst one I have encountered. My sweet and sour chicken was actually sweet and sour flour. There was barely any chicken to be found. My husband's general tsos chicken was the same, with many of his pieces of "chicken" having no chicken whatsoever. I thought the egg rolls and rice were fine, my husband disagreed. Worst American chinese food I have ever had. The mall chinese food is actually better. No one in there probably know the reason. Everything was re-heated, re fried watched them do it. Rice is crunchy, boneless spearibs dripping with grease and hard. Probably also thrown in fryer. Everything tasted of old oil. Hot and Sour soup was not edible very odd taste and bubbly, a sign of spoilage. Teriyaki was old beef jerky. Never again.... Our meat smelled sour and was almost gray looking so I didn't eat that. I then started to eat the rice which too smelled sour and disgusting. Out of all the Chinese restaurants Chung Ping Lau is definitely my favorite. They have the best veggie lo mein! They use whole veggies for their lo mein and it's not greasy (which is hard to find). The crab rangoon is also excellent and when paired with their home made duck sauce, it's out of this world good. It seems to be pretty popular and is always clean. There is always good traffic and a lot of customers when I go. The people that work there are very friendly too. It's the perfect location for lunch/dinner after a day of shopping the outlets. I found this place while cruising around the Kittery Outlets. I love to try new Chinese food restaurants. I was happy they offered combo plates all day and at cheap prices too compared to what I'm used to ($10+). I got a #8- chicken fingers and chicken wings, pork fried rice. wow it was so much food and less than $6! I could not finish it all, save some for dinner yay less cooking. the chicken wings were crispy and delicious, and bigger than most American restaurants, they give you whole wings not half a wing like most places.
