Hot pot AND American bbq, say whaaat?! Very cool concept, never seen a place with both. They have most of your standard meat, veggies, noodles and sides, but they also have chicken wings, gizzards, bbq ribs, bbq slices, fried pork which you don't see often at other hot pot places and they were all pretty damn good! Bonus points for FRESH GARLIC(!!) in the sauce bar section, as opposed to minced jar garlic aka jarlic. Sooo good. Unfortunately the broths were a huge let down. We love a spicy and sour broth so the waiter recommended the duck with Chinese pickled radish as the sour broth and the Liu's house special spicy broth. I hate to say this but both were incredibly bland. We asked if it was possible to make the duck broth more sour, the server brought something and added to our broth but still bland. We ended up adding half a bowl of soy sauce and fish sauce to each for flavor. It helped the duck broth but the spicy broth was purely oil and no flavor so we didn't even eat it. There are fried buns and coconut pudding for AYCE, but the pudding was also extremely bland lol. It's a shame cause all the sides and everything are soooo good!! I would maaaybe consider coming back and trying a different broth but idk, the broths and desserts were quite disappointing. read more

What is unique about this place was the table side American BBQ with the hot pot. The beef flank was tender and juicy but the ribs were a little dry. I liked the 3.99 All you can drink concept for more specialty drinks, but the service is a little slow for drinks so make sure to order your next round early. We waited for a few minutes to have a staff greet us. Maybe it was a bit lack of staff. As we get seated, the waiter was very nice and explained the menu to us thoroughly. Once we saw a few soup base you normally wouldn't see elsewhere, we got excited. The raw items came before the soup base. However, I understand why it took them a while. The chicken was freshly cut and raw. So, we have to wait for it to cook further once it arrives. Well, we don't mind to wait for good food. We came here on a Saturday night and was surprised to see it wasn't as packed compared to Happy Lamb down the street. We had a party of 5, and were seated promptly. After being seated, we ordered our broth and all of our items we wanted to order. Everything came really fast and we enjoyed the little shelves to place food items so we had enough table space. Everything was very delicious, and we got 2 pots with 2 different broths to try everything out. All of the items we ordered came out nice and fresh. Sadly when we were just about finished with our meal, my friend pointed out there was a cockroach in our 2nd water pitcher. Yikes...I brought this up to our waiter who then profusely apologized to us and said that he'll have the kitchen look into it. He comped 50% of our total meal and gave us coupons for our next visit. 5/5 for the service and meal, and our waiter was very nice throughout the meal. However I hate to dock 3 stars off due to the cleanliness of this restauraunt. Cockroaches within a kitchen is unacceptable. read more

All you can drink menu is a great idea and reasonably priced. My friends and I liked our coconut water and watermelon juice. Brown sugar milk tea was the only low quality item not worth trying. I was looking for AYCE hot pot and stumbled upon Liuyishou which I have walked past a couple of times while in Chinatown. It was so nice on a quiet Tuesday night because it was fairly quiet and relaxing since there weren't many people inside! The sauce bar is pretty nice and has the staples for your hot pot sauce. The sides seemed like they had been sitting there all day though so I didn't try any! For the AYCE, it was about $35.99 and we were able to use the ipad to order - I always love this system. We went with two broths: the mildly spicy soup base and the pork bone soup base. Both were fairly good! The pork bone soup was light and the mild spicy soup had a hint of spicy Szechuan peppers but it wasn't overpowering. Those two picks were a great balance! For protein we got 2 of the beef options available and some seafood. Both cuts of beef were great and 1 order was the perfect amount for 2. Their potato noodles are a great pick if you love chewy textures! It was my first time trying it. They offer the perfect ingredients to put in your hotpot and it didn't feel overwhelming which I appreciated. Their dessert costs extra, I think no more than $5 though so you can decide to get your sweet treat fix there or go to another spot. Overall, for the value, it was great and it's not super busy like other spots so the experience was more enjoyable! I feel like busy hotpot places feel a little chaotic sometimes! read more

It's so convenient and there's less mess with people reaching over each other. I got the house special soup and my friends got the golden chicken soup. If you're looking for something less spicey I would recommend going for the chicken soup. Service was prompt and efficient. They came by to refill our soups a few times and you get 3 rounds of ordering within a 2 hour window. They also validate parking here in the Chinatown parking lot so it's $2 for 3 hours of parking. Highly recommend giving this place a try! It does get pretty busy after 7 pm on Saturday. Self-service bar. Good service. You won't go wrong if you are choosing among those restaurants. Spicy pot tasted on point. Got the famous platter and the meat was ok. The portion size of all the veggies plates is pretty small - I guess that's why the price is all around $6. To be honest, I don't usually go to many hotpot locations due to the fact that in most cases, most of the items I have no clue what they are other than to order one of each which can be quite costly. In this case, from all people who I know who does eat at hotpots I gave it a try. First off, I like menu's that has pictures and on a tablet that you can order more when you need to with descriptions and cost. My second mistake was ordering spicy flavoring for soup-base. It is really spicy - so my recommendation is, if you love spicy then get the base. I had to scoop all the peppers out of my soup-base and even that is super spicy. I ordered the beef and lamb tray as that seems to be the most popular in all the tables $20, I ended up with mostly greens as that seems to be all I know what to eat and the raw foods came out fairly quick from a press of the button on the tablet - the dishes is brought to you fast. At the end, I had around 10 dishes and the bill was a little over $100 but I was fairly full and glad to say I that I will be coming back here for more in the near future. They do validate on parking so there is no excuses not to come here. read more

As a party of 3, it was plenty along with a side of veggie and mushroom platters. They also have a sauce bar which they charge $2 for, but it includes side dishes such as pig ear and kimchi, fruits, and Chinese desserts like red bean soup and taro sago! I loved that it's basically unlimited dessert. We got the coconut chicken and tomato soup bases and my favorite was the coconut chicken. It's quite pricey but I think it's quite worth since they include real coconut juice and lots of coconut meat in the soup! I've come to Liuyishou a couple of times and each time has been a very different experience. My first time here, I was here with just one other friend so I was seated at a small table. The most recent time here, I was with a big group of friends, totaling 10 people so we were seated in a private room. I really enjoy the flavor of Liuyishou's broth. It's generally very strong (I've tried three) and definitely imparts nice flavors onto any ingredients cooked. Each time, I am impressed with the quality of the ingredients. The beef slices seem fresh and melt in your mouth after some brief cooking. Definitely get their ring of meat that goes around the pot, it's lots of fun! I really like their fresh meatballs as well. One surprising item that I really enjoy is the egg fried rice. It's so delicious, and it's probably because of msg but whatever I don't care. One complaint with the overall meal is that the spicy broths are truly, very spicy, and I would consider my spice tolerance to be above average. That could certainly just be a personal preference. After eating at Liuyishou, I always feel dehydrated which is perhaps a testament of how salty the food is. When I visited with a large group of friends, the service was noticeably slow. The staff didn't come into the room to check on us much at all and we had to flag them down to get them to refill the broth, order more dishes, etc. Prices for the ingredients are definitely fair for the quality given.
