This noodle shop has a really cool concept. The soup comes out with the individual ingredients served separately, and you add everything into the broth yourself. It's definitely fun and makes for a great photo. While I'm not totally convinced it tastes any different than if the bowl were already assembled, the experience itself was enjoyable. Portion sizes were generous, and the restaurant provides clear instructions on the order in which you should add the ingredients, which I appreciated. The staff was helpful, attentive, and checked in without being overbearing. Food also came out very quickly. For flavors, I ordered the green pepper broth with basa fish, and my husband got the spicy broth with beef slices. Both were flavorful, comforting, and perfect for a winter day. One of the set toppings was ham, which I thought was a little random and not something I usually expect in Chinese noodle dishes. It would be a great idea if, instead of having set toppings, they let customers choose which toppings they want. We also shared the spicy shredded chicken appetizer. It was good overall, though a bit sweeter than I was expecting. The restaurant was clean, prices were reasonable at under $20 per person, and overall it felt like a solid value. A fun dining experience with good food and service.

Technically a 3.5, but giving them the 4 since the staff were very friendly, and I've only been once. Tl;dr efficient rice noodle chain that gives a nice variety of toppings and has solid appetizers. Friendly staff and convenient-ish location next to 88 marketplace. ===== Came here the other night and my friend and I both got the weekday combo set: 20$ for appetizer, jasmine tea (your choice of sweetened, unsweetened, or half and half), and choice of rice noodle. I got the original and my friend got the spicy. We also got the Taiwanese-style fried chicken pieces and cucumber salad appetizers. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. My friend had a number of dietary restrictions and they kindly subbed tofu for the beef rolls, and fried tofu puffs for the ham. They also let us get half-sweetened jasmine tea. It wasn't super busy on a weeknight, and the space they have is big and good for various group sizes. I liked that they have a small self-serve toppings station. Food coma out quickly and service is very attentive. Menus and staff seem to be fully bilingual, too. The variety of toppings is great and comes out displayed very prettily. Portion sizes are quite generous, especially if you get the set. Now onto my nitpicks. The main issue I had was that my original rice noodle wasn't that flavorful, and there was a slight grassy flavor I didn't like. Adding some chili oil and other toppings helped. I realized later that the grassy flavor was also from the rice noodles themselves, and not the soup or any specific topping. Not sure what's going on there, but I'd definitely order a stronger-flavored soup next time. My dining partner didn't seem to have this complaint, so it might just be me... another nit is that the jasmine tea is pretty weak, and you get a pretty small cup. They may do refills, but we didn't ask. As for the positives, the broths were both pleasant and comforting. The appetizers were surprisingly good, too. The fried chicken especially was a decent size and very tender and flavorful.

We usually go to the Ten Seconds Rice Noodles up in Champaign when we visit our son but we thought we give this place a try since we love the one in Champaign but this was really a disappointment. I don't know why they think putting the stuff inside ourselves with these tiny dishes is a good idea, all it does is make the soup cold! By the time you put everything in, the stuff is cold so the soup is no longer hot. Not like the one in Champaign where it is boiling hot and delicious. Service was excellent and they were very nice and many seating and free parking across the street. Love how clean it is and ambiance is very good. If I have never been to the one in Champaign then this one is not bad. But now that there are comparisons, I much prefer hot soup over lukewarm soup.

Came here on a weekend and so glad I did! The workers were all so sweet and helpful. The soup itself was flavorful with lots of add ons. Would recommend this place and come here again myself. The rib appetizer was also delicious. Lots of seating and not too loud in terms of music. Good for big groups

Food: yummy yunnan noodles, I like the sets where you can add in and customize, the spicy brisket was very generous in portions and meat which was great Service: staff was nice Ambiance: clean interior, very nice spot for a meal

This place never misses! I have tried Ten Seconds Yunnan rice noodles in other cities and every time the experience satisfied me. They are also affordable and the portions size is decent as well. The concept is unique and different from hotpot or any other Chinese noodles shop. The food came out very quickly. Their combo meal is such a good deal too. For $20, you get an appetizer and an entree. The crispy chicken is delicious. They have plenty of seatings and they are located in the Chinese market building, convenient to do other shoppings. Parking lot is available. Highly recommend this place. I really hope my city will get this chain .

My first time eating at this chain was in the Bay Area, and I'm so excited and happy that this chain has made it to Chicago! Service is amazing; servers were super nice and attentive and offered to help explain the menu, provide recommendations, and how to prepare the rice noodles. New restaurant so everything was clean. Overall - good portions, love the noodles, and flavorful soups with decent protein options. I love that the bowls come in piping hot and you throw in all the sides into the bowl. The soup is flavorful enough such that you can slurp your noodles and there's plenty of flavor! Ordyceps Flower Chicken Rice Noodle - tender and flavorful chicken with a delicate flavor of the ordyceps flower. Surprisingly was a great bowl of noodle and soup and quite a bit of meat overall leaving us really full. The yellow color is a little weird but the taste was pretty good. Definitely drank quite a bit of soup from this bowl! Original Beef Brisket Rice Noodle - The beef brisket was made very well and flavorful! Highly recommend. I'm glad that they put this on the side instead of throwing it into the bowl! Original Pork Chop Rice Noodle - I was told the pork chop is fried so I asked for the pork chop on the side. The pork chop was lukewarm, not crispy (came soft), and wasn't the most tender nor juicy. It felt like the pork chop was previously fried and then only reheated upon ordering. Taste of the pork chop was rather bland as well and wish it had more flavoring. Would not recommend getting this since the beef brisket or chicken was definitely a better option. They also have weekday combos for $19.99 where you can pick from a select number of noodle dishes, an appetizer (a smaller portion than appetizers from the menu), and an iced tea which you can have sweetened or unsweetened.

Ambiance - modern, great for dates and small groups Service - servers were super nice and food came out fairly quickly; they have a Mon-Fri combo special for $19 (rice noodle + snack + drink) Food - soup came out piping hot (to cook the ingredients), rich and flavorful, just the right amount of food for 1 person

    Tomato soup with beef brisket

This is a chain of yunnan rice noodles, and I've had it in NY, Philly, and now Chicago. This is ALL about the culinary experience. It's giving chef, especially when you get to mix all the ingredients in yourself. My tomato soup with beef brisket was a bit plain. It did not have any tangy sour kick that comes with mixing tomato paste with soy sauce. I had to add huge spoonfuls of their 酸菜(minced pickled veggies) and some chili oil to get flavor. I also had to dump in the beef brisket with all its yummy juices to get the broth to fulfill its original full potential. The beef brisket itself was marinated to perfection - so tender, juicy, and the perfect texture. Staff are efficient and bring out your food minutes after ordering! It was mostly empty when I walked in on a Saturday around 12pm, but got full very quickly! All tables are booths. A fun culinary experience for sure! I want to come again and try their other broths!

I have been here multiple times. Last time I came was a few weeks ago and I enjoyed the weekday 19.99 deal meal set that includes one main, one app and one ice tea. I got the beef dry noodles as the main and scallion pancakes as an app. They were delicious and I was surprised by the beef portion, it was quite generous. The service is quick and I love the large tables, giving me plenty of room

The food was absolutely delicious! I didn't expect to like this place that much, but I was so wrong! Their presentation is absolutely phenomenal! I love how you get a steaming bowl of hotpot and an assortment of items to put in the hotpot. They give a large portion of noodles and meat, so I was more full than expected. The different soup options definitely intrigued me and make me want to come back! The service was great - they always checked up on us to make sure we didn't need anything. The waitress that brought our food also dropped one of the meat pieces, and I didn't even notice; however, she still apologized and came back with a replacement piece. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful. It feels like a fancy restaurant, and I love how clean the restaurant looks. There's parking as well, so it's very easy to access the restaurant.

A Chinese twist of the Korean dish seolleongtang. Presentation was really good but I wish they had salt/pepper on the side. The soup was pretty bland and the fried chicken was too "floury." Pretty good spot if you're craving soup!

    Scallion Pancake
    Michelle F.

We ordered the scallion pancakes as an appetizer, and I got the tomato broth. My friends got the hot and sour soup, the pork bone soup, and the ordyceps flower chicken rice noodle. The presentation is nice with all the bowls with toppings laid out - the broth is super hot so it'll cook the meat once you put it in. I thought all the broths were pretty tasty as well - the tomato was my favorite. We also had leftovers to take home!

Thankfully, that wasn't the case--I enjoyed the meal overall, even if it wasn't a "wow, this is the best meal ever" experience. The biggest surprise for me was the dried chili chicken. I almost didn't order it because so many reviews said it was overly salty and spicy. We asked for less salt, and they were happy to accommodate. I actually thought the spice level was very manageable, and it ended up being one of my favorite dishes. The orange chicken was another pleasant surprise. I expected it to be a basic, Americanized option, but it was delicious and ended up being one of my favorites of the meal. My friends really enjoyed the dan dan noodles, which seem to be one of their signature dishes. Personally, I thought they were good but not particularly memorable compared to everything else. The mango shrimp was tasty as well, but it wasn't something I'd consider a must-order on a return visit. Service was great. The waiter was friendly, accommodated our request for less salt, and we were seated immediately. We arrived about 10 minutes before opening on a weekday to line up, and that seemed to work well. overall a great experience!

The cold gluten salad is a true highlight here, with an impeccable springy texture and an absolutely perfect mix of chili oil and sesame in the seasoning. The flatbread was also a standout, being perfectly crunchy and flavorful alongside a cumin lamb with a good punch. I was less impressed by the hand-pulled noodles. The soup itself was fine, as were the lamb intestines (though I really prefer them grilled). However, for hand-stretched noodles, the noodles were just lacking and missing something. Maybe wheat noodles get better the further west you go, and it just isn't quite Lanzhou style.

The biang biang noodles were thick, chewy and bouncy, and like wider longer belts. The texture was actually so addicting and I devoured my bowl almost instantly. I'd ordered Homura, and stepped away to wash my hands. Just as I was sitting down, the bowl of hot fresh goodness was placed in front of me. Even when the place was busy, the service remains lighting-quick! friendly and attentive too! As for the bowl, it was absolutely fantastic! Upon mixing, everything went together perfectly. The flavors were tremendously savory and rich, with accents from the egg, seasonings, veggies, and a healthy amount of meat. The noodles were cooked perfectly too! The bowl was perfect as is, and needed nothing. I was worried the bowl would be dry, but this couldn't be farther from the truth, especially with the ladle of liquid on the bottom, everything was perfect! Now, there are various seasonings and flavor enhancers on the table, but they weren't needed, in my opinion. If you do choose to add some, be careful, as some pour fast and heavy! After happily slurping this thing down in record time, I also ordered a single helping of Chashu, as I generally love it and wanted to try. It too was brought to me in no time, and was thin, well balanced, and melted in my mouth. Where it comes to value, the bowl was $13.50, and the slice of chashu was $1.50, IIRC. Great, especially in light of what everything costs nowadays. Final verdict: Kajiken came, and it DELIVERED.
