We opted into do a large pot (vs. small personal pots of small) The location is very spacious and clean. The self sauce bar had a lot of options and also some go-to hotpot sauce recipe for you to reference. A couple things that made me give a 4 star: I noticed was their selection of toppings were lacking compared to other hot pot places nearby. If you are familiar with Chinese hot pot chains, Liuyishou is definitely one of the better quality ones and tastes / feels pretty similar to Qiaolin & Haidilao. Bright and clean dining environment. Self-service bar. Good service. You won't go wrong if you are choosing among those restaurants. Spicy pot tasted on point. Got the famous platter and the meat was ok. The portion size of all the veggies plates is pretty small - I guess that's why the price is all around $6. To be honest, I don't usually go to many hotpot locations due to the fact that in most cases, most of the items I have no clue what they are other than to order one of each which can be quite costly. In this case, from all people who I know who does eat at hotpots I gave it a try. First off, I like menu's that has pictures and on a tablet that you can order more when you need to with descriptions and cost. My second mistake was ordering spicy flavoring for soup-base. It is really spicy - so my recommendation is, if you love spicy then get the base. I had to scoop all the peppers out of my soup-base and even that is super spicy. I ordered the beef and lamb tray as that seems to be the most popular in all the tables $20, I ended up with mostly greens as that seems to be all I know what to eat and the raw foods came out fairly quick from a press of the button on the tablet - the dishes is brought to you fast. At the end, I had around 10 dishes and the bill was a little over $100 but I was fairly full and glad to say I that I will be coming back here for more in the near future. They do validate on parking so there is no excuses not to come here. read more

I really enjoyed this hotpot chain restaurant in Chinatown! I was intrigued by their beef and lamb circular platter and it was great! We came on a Monday night and there was no wait. As a party of 3, it was plenty along with a side of veggie and mushroom platters. They also have a sauce bar which they charge $2 for, but it includes side dishes such as pig ear and kimchi, fruits, and Chinese desserts like red bean soup and taro sago! I loved that it's basically unlimited dessert. We got the coconut chicken and tomato soup bases and my favorite was the coconut chicken. It's quite pricey but I think it's quite worth since they include real coconut juice and lots of coconut meat in the soup! I've come to Liuyishou a couple of times and each time has been a very different experience. My first time here, I was here with just one other friend so I was seated at a small table. The most recent time here, I was with a big group of friends, totaling 10 people so we were seated in a private room. I really enjoy the flavor of Liuyishou's broth. It's generally very strong (I've tried three) and definitely imparts nice flavors onto any ingredients cooked. Each time, I am impressed with the quality of the ingredients. The beef slices seem fresh and melt in your mouth after some brief cooking. Definitely get their ring of meat that goes around the pot, it's lots of fun! I really like their fresh meatballs as well. One surprising item that I really enjoy is the egg fried rice. It's so delicious, and it's probably because of msg but whatever I don't care. One complaint with the overall meal is that the spicy broths are truly, very spicy, and I would consider my spice tolerance to be above average. That could certainly just be a personal preference. After eating at Liuyishou, I always feel dehydrated which is perhaps a testament of how salty the food is. When I visited with a large group of friends, the service was noticeably slow. The staff didn't come into the room to check on us much at all and we had to flag them down to get them to refill the broth, order more dishes, etc. Prices for the ingredients are definitely fair for the quality given. The spicy broth has a good kick to it but my boyfriend said the bone broth was very bland. For protein, we chose the beef & lamb platter which was HUGE. We also added the angus steak. Everything was pretty good - no complaints. I was surprised that you have to pay to use their sauce bar compared to other places where it's free. Their sauce bar had extensive selections but majority of things were almost empty. I felt like it could've needed more attention. Overall a decent spot to check out. Ok walking in the ambiance is really nice and going on a Thursday night we barely waited at all. I love that the pots they use are really shallow so it makes getting the food out easier. Food also came out really quickly. Soup base: we got the mild spicy and I think i almost died. It was insanely spicy, my sinuses were cleared right up. I was sweating and my pores felt like they were just exploding with the mala spice. Death. Food: Got the veggie tray, vermicelli noodles and the shrimp stuffed tofu. The shrimp stuffed tofu was incredible. Soaked up the flavor and got so tender. The veggie tray could have been bigger in my opinion. Sauce bar: Lots of cool additions to make your sauce your own. Came here on a Saturday at 6pm for dinner with 6 others. There was no wait, which was nice and we were seated right away. Our server was usually around when we needed her, so that is a plus for Chinatown. Also when you order, dishes come out quickly; service overall was better than I expected. I guess why this restaurant is just okay to me is the food. I didn't find the a la carte quality to be much better than all you can eat. We ended up spending ~$32pp, but in my opinion I'd rather go to an all you can eat for that price. It was good, not great, but also wasn't bad and hence the 3 stars. They used real coconut juice for the coconut chicken broth, I was impressed! They also serve real coconut juice in the coconut, if you want! I really had high hopes for this place especially after reading and seeing reviews. That's why you try places for yourself. I have no complaints about the service. Everyone was attentive and seeing this was my 1st and only visit they explained everything.You use a pad to order everything you want including drinks, so there's no waiting for someone to come back to your table. We were informed whatever broth you pick your food will taste like it, so be mindful of your decision. It's $40/pp all you can eat..Not a bad deal if you actually enjoy this place. We had the mildy spicy beef soup and the house spicy soup base. I love spicy so the mildly spicy is actually more spicy than anticipated. The house spicy was very spicy, no complaints with the spice level for me. If you decide to go I HIGHLY recommend going to the sauce bar and getting salt, garlic, green onions etc to add to your soup. Especially need to add salt to the beef. There was no flavor in the soup all you could taste was spice. I didn't like any of the food I cooked in the house soup because it tasted exactly like the soup and it had an unappealing smell to it. When the beef soup got low staff was attentive about filling it back up with water but then that diluted any flavor we added to it. The beef tasted cheap and prawns tasted old. We even ordered 1 of their premium beefs and was not impressed. At the sauce bar they offered veggie egg rolls but those were hard to get a hold of. The fried chicken wings were actually flavorful. Went and tried this new hotpot place, it was pretty good. Meats were great and so were everything else that were ordered. My girlfriend and I got the half spicy and pork bone broth to try. Spicy broth was super flavorful and the pork bone broth fell a little short in that department, and needed the sauces to add more flavor to the food. Our mouth were on fire eating through the spicy broth and we ordered a pitcher of fresh soy milk which cooled us down; even if you don't order the spicy broth I would highly recommend getting the fresh soy milk because it was super delicious and had the perfect amount of sweetness. Ingredients were great, unfortunately we ordered too much and couldn't order noodles at the end to finish out the meal. The meat board around the bowl was really fun and unique as I don't see any other places doing it. The inside was very spacious with lots of table that can fit 6+ people. My friends that had their spicy soup base all think that their spicy pot is DEFINITELY SPICY, so be cautious/ aware when selecting the spice level. The environment was nice and organized. The service could be improved. Our first waitress messed up some of our orders. Also, we we're not warned about the timing, last call (1hr30 minutes), and total time we can spend (2 hours) until we requested for another order (around 1 hr 35 minutes spent); however, the server was friendly enough to still submit the order for us. This has become one of my favorite hotpot places, and it's nearly all because of the broth. I am biased because my most nostalgic Chinese meal is tomato egg noodle soup, so I favor tomato-based soups over many other favors. Their tomato-based broth was amazing, and made the rest of the meal so much better. There was also a greater variety of foods to add the hotpot which made things interesting. The servers were more familiar with Chinese so it would help to be relatively fluent, but I think they are okay with English (I struggled with trying to order in Chinese). It is on the pricier side (the regular price is equivalent to Happy Lamb's premium price) but I think it is worth it because of the multiple broth options and greater variety.
