We've visited Liuyishou Chicago probably 30+ times this past two years. Menu has been evolving over the time: some are great additions and some are hit and miss (like the BBQ). Overall food quality has always been up there Service is also outstanding. We've been served with the same group of waiters this past two years, which is rare and indicator of good management and compensation

Hot pot AND American bbq, say whaaat?! Very cool concept, never seen a place with both. They have most of your standard meat, veggies, noodles and sides, but they also have chicken wings, gizzards, bbq ribs, bbq slices, fried pork which you don't see often at other hot pot places and they were all pretty damn good! Bonus points for FRESH GARLIC(!!) in the sauce bar section, as opposed to minced jar garlic aka jarlic. Sooo good. Unfortunately the broths were a huge let down. We love a spicy and sour broth so the waiter recommended the duck with Chinese pickled radish as the sour broth and the Liu's house special spicy broth. I hate to say this but both were incredibly bland. We asked if it was possible to make the duck broth more sour, the server brought something and added to our broth but still bland. We ended up adding half a bowl of soy sauce and fish sauce to each for flavor. It helped the duck broth but the spicy broth was purely oil and no flavor so we didn't even eat it. There are fried buns and coconut pudding for AYCE, but the pudding was also extremely bland lol. It's a shame cause all the sides and everything are soooo good!! I would maaaybe consider coming back and trying a different broth but idk, the broths and desserts were quite disappointing.

Friendly staff and fast service! Meat quality is fresh and good hot pot item options. The bar ingredients were running low and drink options were limited.

What is unique about this place was the table side American BBQ with the hot pot. The beef flank was tender and juicy but the ribs were a little dry. I liked the 3.99 All you can drink concept for more specialty drinks, but the service is a little slow for drinks so make sure to order your next round early. The free canned soda was amazing great perk too for dine-in. The hot pot experience and hot pot items were pretty standard. I did love the brown sugar mochi dessert.

Two soup base of your choice. We picked pork tripe w/. Black pepper & chicken soup base and golden soup.

We waited for a few minutes to have a staff greet us. Maybe it was a bit lack of staff. As we get seated, the waiter was very nice and explained the menu to us thoroughly. Once we saw a few soup base you normally wouldn't see elsewhere, we got excited. The raw items came before the soup base. However, I understand why it took them a while. The chicken was freshly cut and raw. So, we have to wait for it to cook further once it arrives. Well, we don't mind to wait for good food. All of the other ingredients are very fresh as well.

Absolutely loved the food and service here! Everything was delicious and the staff were super friendly. Great quality for a really good price. Highly recommend!!

Very friendly service. Great background music and ambiance. Seating is perfect for large groups. We ordered 2 soup bases: golden chicken broth and house special beef broth level 3 spicy. Well-stocked and fresh sauce bar. The beef and lamb combo is a great deal with cool presentation. Also ordered Rolled bean curd, Bamboo, Tofu strips, Enoki mushroom, Sole fish fillet, Fresh beef meatballs, Tripe, and Fish balls with roe. The all-you-can-drink selections are really refreshing, but there are some complementary cans of pop (sprite and Coca Cola) available. Some American-style BBQ was also provided complementary... do not skip! It was delicious.

Absolute perfection! This was easily one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The variety of fresh ingredients--from the thinly sliced wagyu to the crisp, fresh vegetables--was impressive. Our server was incredibly helpful with the broth recommendations, and the signature spicy pot had the perfect kick. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. If you're a fan of hotpot, you absolutely have to come here. I'm already planning my next visit!

Cockroach in our 2nd water pitcher...

We came here on a Saturday night and was surprised to see it wasn't as packed compared to Happy Lamb down the street. We had a party of 5, and were seated promptly. After being seated, we ordered our broth and all of our items we wanted to order. Everything came really fast and we enjoyed the little shelves to place food items so we had enough table space. Everything was very delicious, and we got 2 pots with 2 different broths to try everything out. All of the items we ordered came out nice and fresh. Sadly when we were just about finished with our meal, my friend pointed out there was a cockroach in our 2nd water pitcher. Yikes...I brought this up to our waiter who then profusely apologized to us and said that he'll have the kitchen look into it. He comped 50% of our total meal and gave us coupons for our next visit. 5/5 for the service and meal, and our waiter was very nice throughout the meal. However I hate to dock 3 stars off due to the cleanliness of this restauraunt. Cockroaches within a kitchen is unacceptable.

Came here for lunch on a Friday, no wait and got seated right away. We got the sukiyaki and mildly spicy broth. Surprisingly, the sukiyaki had a very strong flavor, unlike most places where it's more light, which was super yummy! Mild spicy is perfect for those who have a low spice tolerance but enjoy the spiciness. All you can eat for $35.99 per person, also includes sauce bar and unlimited sodas. Definitely worth it!

We ordered like the PERFECT amount of food and best variety. Roast duck: I honestly don't know if I've ever had duck before, but I'm a duck believer now. The skin on theirs was the perfect crispy shatter texture and the duck was sooooo juicy! I don't know why I was always so worried about it being gamey. They give you fluffy steamed bao buns, a sauce, and scallions on the side as well as duck fried rice! Turnip cake: Obviously a must any time I come to dim sum. I've never seen turnip in any other form than this. Japanese salt & pepper tofu: My FAVORITE dish ever. Any fried salt & pepper tofu always makes me happy. They use a creamy egg-like tofu and the outside is lightly crispy with amazing aromatics stir fried in. Steamed white rice on the side is perfect with this. Loved everything else my dinner buds picked and we were super full by the end! Service was good and food came out fast and scorching hot! ***Parking in the area is treacherous (not the restaurants fault, but reconsider driving if possible bc cell signal can be zero to none around the garages if you get lucky) ***Their website allows you to request a reservation as long as it's 3 hours before your desired time. We came on a Saturday evening around dinner time and there was plenty of room for us to get a table immediately as walk-ins!

Please be advised, they do not take Apple Pay!…read more Both the egg yolk buns and shrimp friend rice were delicious! I went on Sunday afternoon and there were few parties dining in, so we were able to sit and get our food quickly.

I was able to get a last minute reservation for me and my friends, and we were even able to sit inside. The teapot "group" drink was hard to pour, but that was truly my only complaint of the night. The inside is so cute, intimate, and dark, yet lively and fun at the same time. The perfect restaurant for any occasion!

A few dishes, like the Duck Fried Rice, Pork Belly, and Beef Noodle Soup, were actually pretty solid. But the rest of the night was just so frustrating that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The Jiaozi were the first big letdown. The menu said they were beef short rib and bone marrow, but they didn't taste like that at all. The filling was just super mushy and the flavor was just weird. The manager and the food runner were nice when we mentioned it, but our actual server was a disaster. When we tried the Goat Noodles, all we could taste was cumin. It was so overwhelming that it covered up everything else. We couldn't even tell if there was actually any goat shoulder in there. When we told our waiter, she couldn't care less. She got totally defensive, wouldn't even listen to us, and just said, "Oh, I told you when you ordered that the dish is cumin forward" and walked away. It got worse when the bill came. She was holding on to the payment machine so hard and almost yanked it right out of my friend's hand. She was staring at it to see what we were tipping. It was so awkward and incredibly rude. No thank you, no nothing. She just grabbed it and left. The place has potential, but they really need to fix the food and retrain the staff. A cool vibe doesn't make up for bad food and awful service.
