What a fun place this is! I came here one sunday for a private work out class that was being held downstairs and than after we got to throw some axes! So this place is not only an axe throwing place and a bar, but you can also host events here too. The staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable about everything that has to do with throwing axes. The bartender here is very nice too. Axe throwing is alot harder than it looks. It is soooo much fun though! It is a great activity for a rainy day, or a work outing or just with friends and family. This place has multiple axe throwing cages both upstairs and downstairs. There are also two bars. The one downstairs is alot bigger and nicer than the one upstairs. If you find yourself in this area and want to try a new activity I highly recommend this spot. Also, it does not matter if you're new to axe throwing or a pro. The staff here will teach you everything you need to know to be able to get the axe on the board.

I'm torn on what to review this. I'll start off by saying that I am not a fan of axe throwing - I've done it twice before and I'm not particularly good at it. However, our company was hosting a party here so I needed to participate :) The two employees teaching us how to throw were very detailed and helpful. They stuck around the entire time. The bar staff was fast and pleasant, too. The food was just ok. They have a cool photo wall downstairs and the bathrooms were very nice!

Such a fun place!! Kevin made it so fun and kept up with our group's stupidity and competitiveness he was awesome!

My husband took me for Valentine's Day and honestly it was the coolest date. We had an online reservation and check in was seamless. There's a large clean bathroom downstairs with photo opportunities around it. We did the 2 people cage with Brendan who was AWESOME. He was very friendly, patient and supportive. I had never touched an axe before and won 3/4 games by the end. There's a full bar with snacks and tables to hangout. I actually cannot wait to go back again soon and bring some more friends. The facility is close to the Canal St subway stops for easy access.

I found myself at Live Axe for an after-work engagement event. I remember when axe throwing became a thing a few years ago, it intrigued me but I never got around to trying it out for myself. That all changed the other night, and I was looking forward to finally throwing one of these things around while connecting with my colleagues. Live Axe is located near Chinatown - the space is pretty large and is set up were there are different "cages" around the space where parties will be throwing their axes; down the center of the room are long tables where food is served and you can socialize. When we walked in we were greeted by the hosts who walked us over to our section; it was there that we met Gabriel who served as our host. Gabriel went over the roadmap of our time at Live Axe: we we started by doing a couple of practice rounds where he taught us how to properly throw an axe. Then, we broke our into two teams and played some games. It was really a lot of fun - I found it a great way to blow off some steam, and it was great to socialize with my colleagues outside of the office. All the while, Gabriel did an excellent job engaging our group and keeping us on track; he really made the whole experience a great one. Can't forget about the food - the majority of the menu is what you would expect at a combo eat-and-play venue: chicken, flatbread pizzas, a giant soft pretzel, etc. - everything was tasty. Their drink menu is also noteworthy - they have a number of specialty cocktails as well as ones that are tried and true. Overall, Live Axe was great fun - I'm glad I finally got to experience axe throwing for myself, and the staff really made it a memorable experience. I would have no qualms returning to throw some more sharp objects around.

4 stars!! What could possibly go wrong when you mix axes, liquor and beer?? LOL!! Came here with a group of 8 for a team building event. This is a great way to let off steam and get to know fellow work buddies, friends or family members better. What you find out may surprise you. What made it special were the people who work there. I was greeted when I walked in the place, was asked sign a waiver (NO SURPRISE) and the person who kept score, gave everyone tips on how to improve their skills were great. You should plan on making a reservation. During the week they open around 4 or 5 pm. Saturday and Sunday are at 1 pm. The lace was busy so plan ahead. They do offer discounts for groups which should save you a few dollars. All you need to do is check website which shows all pricing. The also have league events if you join their team. The equipment was in pretty good shape, I would have liked see the boards in a little better shape. As mentioned earlier everyone was friendly, they have a great bar, they do serve some food, mainly snack or appetizer food. The entire place was clean and well maintained. Overall great experience, I would definitely recommend them and would definitely come back.

Went here for a team event and it was super fun. It was my first time and thank goodness I didn't hurt anyone or myself. The staff here are very friendly and the drinks are solid. Can't go wrong with a cold glass of beer or an old fashioned. We ordered some white and red flatbread pizza, pretzel the giant, garden on a skewer (skip this one) and grilled corn a cob (def skip this one). There's plenty of space upstairs and downstairs. We played a couple of games which was super fun and competitive. Would be a fun date night spot as well.

Came this Saturday i booked a shared cage for 7 pm. I was running a little late but still made it. The instructor was nice and very helpful. We only got 30 min but wasn't too bad. I ordered the Mez'kall and the chicken skewers. The drink was good but not too strong. The chicken skewers were cooked well very tasty, but I would've rather leafy greens than the shredded lettuce it came on. My date had the peasant sandwich a whoping $21 jeez; he said it was good, although he had it plain. My second time here after the pandemic, and it was empty but started filling up around 8ish. There is plenty of seating. I like the concept of the shared cage it makes for great conversation, meeting new ppl, and friendly competition. Although we didn't have anyone to share with, it was still cool. The bathroom is clean. There's a big bar downstairs and cute picture ops. The staff was friendly. I will definitely return. I also wish the menu wasn't so limited. Add some fries and burger.

And absolutely phenomenal experience under the watchful eyes of Jason, the bartender, and Gaby the axe instructor. Drinks were phenomenal, and my crew had an amazing time learning how to throw axes for the first time. And there really isn't much else to say about this place besides the vibes are absolutely immaculate and you'll have the best of times thanks to the best crew in the customer service industry. As usual, I stuck with my classic blue Hawaiian and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Great place to blow off some steam after a hard days work!

I went on a Saturday night. It was date night. We found street parking really quick since it was night time. We reserved for 9p but we got there early, and there were cages available so we were immediately escorted to one, We were greeted by the most energetic, sweet, and funny girls. The staff is amazing. Trevor, our instructor made it so fun. It was our first time throwing axe he made the experience beyond easy. He gave us so many tips and tricks. I wasn't aware the instructor stays with you the entire time but Trevor was amazing so it still felt like date night. He offered to take pictures and videos for us as well. The games were the highlight of the night. I didn't know I was so good at axe throwing. Yay goo me! Lol...the food was ok I had the chicken skewers and my husband had the potato. The drinks were good. I had a long Island since I wanted something strong, two gave me a nice buzz. Overall it was a great experience, and YES I would be back with my girls next time! read more

Axe throwing has always been on my bucket list and Live Axe was such a great spot! I was glad that there was a location in Manhattan and that they were open during COVID. The place was fun and lively with great decor and service. Ryan, our instructor, was engaged and was really helpful in teaching me how to throw. He was such a great scorer during the games and really made the night a blast. Will definitely be coming back! read more

From the unique design to the creative Idea and perfect execution, everything about this place is perfect for a fun night out! The bartender was a master with his cocktails skills, food was delicious and the Axe throwing was so much fun! Let me start by saying, I never leave reviews! However, I threw a surprise party for my boyfriend this past weekend (23 people) and I could not have asked for a better experience. Lee, the party planner was so accommodating and patient. No question or concern was too big or too small. This was literally the easiest party I ever planned, and I've planned many! Then, the staff on site -- my goodness! Ernesto, Bishop, the hostess... they were amazing! It felt like "Yes Day", lol. I cannot wait to plan another event with them. We had so much fun, this experience it was worth every penny! read more

Our host was so attentive and was loads of fun ! The whole ambiance is impeccable. When you walk in you have to fill out a digital form and you and your guest are escorted to your area! The food is a bit pricey as well as the drinks but it was well worth it. read more

Definitely recommend Live Axe. We went on a Thursday night, without a reservation, but they were able to accommodate us in a little over 5 minutes. Priscilla was with us the entire time, guiding us and rooting us on. She taught us two different games, and we had a great time! read more

this place is amazing i came here just before the second lockdown again. i made reservation with for 8:00pm i came in and was greeted.i signed a forum for just incase i get injured(electronically) . me and my lady were then seated by a waitress named bridget( she was very nice and accommodating, she help me with out with the drink menu). then after waiting for are cage to be ready and we was greeted by a man named danzel. this guy was super cool and explained to me and my lady how to properly throw the axe. he was such a good instructor that i was almost hitting the blue dots which are really hard to get. danzel made live axe a great experience with his upbeat personality and good energy, also there is a downstairs the look amazing with skull art on the walls and much more. read more

Woof. Where to start? I made a reservation of 3 of us for 9PM, for 60 minutes of throwing. My party showed up at 8:50, ready to go, expecting to get started shortly around 9PM. We were sat down at a table and said we'd be "taken to our cage to start soon". We ordered drinks (over priced, even for NYC, and VERY BAD - but that's another story) and waited. And waited. and waited. And waited. At 9:30, I approached the hosts and asked when we'd be into our cage, as our reservation was already 30 minutes past. We were told "soon", apologized for the delay, and said they'd "talk to the bar" to see if they could make up the delay to us (spoiler alert: no drinks were removed from our tab at the end of the night, no discount either). Another 15 minutes goes by, and after watching SEVERAL groups' timers expire and these groups continuing to just mill about, we were over it. I approached the hosts and said we'd just like our money back at this point - and THAT finally got us a cage to start throwing. Our coach (Jason WHO WAS AMAZING AND WONDERFUL and the only saving grace of this all) started our timer (45 minutes....not 60, like my email confirmation clearly states), taught us how to throw, and off we went. The throwing was fun, but the boards we were throwing on were SO damaged that when we'd throw an axe, it would often stick for just a few moments and then immediately fall out (not because we weren't throwing hard enough, but because the wood was so destroyed in places, there was nothing for the axe to stick to) of course you can't change out these boards after every group, but these boards were BEYOND destroyed. That being said, I would like to say again that our coach Jason was WONDERFUL. As soon as our 45 (again NOT 60 minute) timer was up, the manager came over and QUICKLY ushered us away, put our tab down, and told us we needed to settle up. The rudeness of the manager, the hosts....it was insane. Why WE were hustled off when we watched so many other groups take their sweet time? Why bother making reservations if you're going to run that far behind? Why tell me you're going to "make it up to us" only to not do that at all and then be incredibly rude? We paid $160 (not including the terrible drinks) to throw axes for less time than we were quoted for and to be rushed off. Don't waste your time. There are other axe throwing places in NYC - and I'd bet they're run a lot better than this disaster. read more

I was excited but nervous when I first arrived because this was my first time throwing axes and I didn't know what to expect. I came with my boyfriend and we were promptly greeted upon arrival. We signed a waiver form and then were seated at a table while we waited to be assigned an instructor. In the meantime, we took photos downstairs in front of beautifully decorated Instagram-worthy backgrounds. The environment was inviting, appealing, and clean. There was hand sanitizer available throughout the establishment. Up until we entered the private cages (which is a plus with the pandemic) and instructed on the do's and don'ts for axe throwing, I was anxious but eager to learn. Danzel was an amazing teacher who showed us different throwing techniques until we could figure out what worked best for us. He was also funny and very friendly. After much practice and encouragement by Danzel, I became confident and was throwing axes like an expert! I would definitely recommend this place if you want to have fun with your boo or a group of friends and try something new while staying safe:) read more

We went last night to Live Axe and were greeted with incredible service. Zac and Amit were incredibly kind and welcoming. They showed us around the place, and we all felt that it would be an incredible spot for a work bonding event or a private party. Kyle whipped us up some delicious drinks, highly recommend the Moscow mules, and taught us some fun games in the cage! We were all a little nervous before the experience but it was incredibly safe. Kyle's instructions guided us very well! He gave us tips and tricks to make us improve throughout the night! read more

The place is ok for what it is: an ax throwing bar. Expensive, $17 for a gin and tonic. The boards were in pretty bad shape, but it was also the end of the day. In general was a good experience. read more

She did a very good job of instructing us but she was so friendly and personable that it was like we were a party of three instead of two. Really fun time - Priscilla was a great coach for our family party of two. The pricing seems high but you get a lot of axe-throwing in for the time allotted, plus the coach is there for the entire time, constantly helping you to improve your performance with each throw. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an uncommon afternoon or evening in Manhattan. read more

I truly enjoyed my time here, part of me wanted it to last a bit longer. It was my boyfriend's birthday & our first time throwing an axe. I felt more comfortable than I'd imagine throwing an axe, lol. My boyfriend still won most games *rolls eyes*. Anyways Jason was a great teacher and host. He made us feel very welcomed from his jokes to his ability to maintain a healthy and fun conversation. Definitely requesting him next time we go! Thanks Jason !! Also wish I got the name of the waitress she was cool & added to the great experience I had. Loved it all & I recommend the banana dessert. Surprisingly amazing. read more

i went with some friends last friday after work and we had a great time! sonny was an awesome instructor and i highly recommend him (make sure you tip :d). however, they double charged for one of our party and now refuse to refund the extra charge!!!! terrible!!!! Only come here if you like getting ripped off!!!! They also couldn't make a simple gin & tonic at the bar ?? The specialty cocktails and beers were fine but they can't even nail the basics down... read more

Super nice urban design to the place which gives it kind of an underground bar feel to it. The cocktails are great and definitely pack a kick to them. The hosts do a great job keeping you entertained when you're throwing. The basement area is an awesome spot for big groups looking to hang out. Definitely will be coming back. read more

We had a great time! My friend and I had never been axe throwing before, and decided to give it a try. We loved it. Our instructor Damian was amazing. He was able to recognize what we both individually needed to fix to get the axe to stick successfully, and gave great tips. He was always cheering us on and being supportive. I went to this bar for a date with my boyfriend yesterday and I have nothing but great things to say about the experience. He had wanted to try out axe throwing but thought they were all in Brooklyn until we found this lovely place in Manhattan. We started out our day eating some yummy food then we were ready our team captain (Sonny) came and got us. Sonny was such an incredible team captain who showed us the ropes, motivated us to keep going, and gave us tips to improve the technique. He also came up with some fun games for us to play to make the experience a memorable one. Sonny is such a friendly, sweet, and talented coach and he took so many cute photos of my boyfriend and I too for memories. 10/10 experience and coach. Make sure to ask for Sonny! My boyfriend and I will definitely be back. Thank you Sonny! read more

Came here tonight for a first time Axe experience and let me tell you, it was great! From coming in, to the timely seating, to the cleanliness of the facility! We were given a wonderful instructor by the name of Danzel. He assisted my boyfriend and I in a fun time of learning and competing in axe throwing! It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

Funny thing is my landlord just gave me a complimentary membership to the building Health Club when I renewed my lease. Starting November 1st I have access to the indoor pool in my apartment building. I guess you won't be seeing me at John Jay Pool.

Had an amazing time throwing axes! The axe throwing was a total thrill, with friendly staff helping us nail those bullseyes.
