It's complicated to get in. Be sure to read the signs they have. Don't get in the line for the dump. A lot of varieties to choose from with soil and mulch. If you have a big project and a truck...stop lugging bag by bag from HD or LHI. If you are looking for customer service--that's not what they are here for. Know what you want. Get in there and pay. Drove all the way down, complex entry and yard. Sold me the wrong material. Should have check inside the bags. Was told that the material was "packaged in wrong bags" Drove all the way back. Still not sure I will get my money since manager approval needed. Then the yard worker only unloaded 1/2 the bags and had to help someone else. PLEASE GO TO PLANO LOCATION. have used that location for years and you get the correct stuff and they are super helpful. I hired a company to put a layer of topsoil on my yard. They buy from Living Earth. The entire load was full of trash. For two days they and we picked up crap out of of this stuff. We collected a couple of pounds of various things. The biggest items were giant chunks of wood, smaller items were rocks, and then there was the trash. Again, we picked up lots of shredded plastic bags, pieces of glass, pieces of fabric, assorted hard pieces of plastic a couple of washer filters for hoses, part of a hose, various pieces of actual wiring probably used to wire sprinkler systems, and other small white pieces of plastic that look like tags. I cannot recommend ever using this company if they are not checking the material they are accepting and not filtering their product. I will never ever again trust this company. My yard company apologized profusely and was surprised that the load was this bad. read more

Website did not mention any fees and when I walked in they said they just changed policies and haven't updated their website. Wanted to charge $60 for a small truck bed. We've previously purchased soil twice from this establishment only because it was in large quantities. It was convenient and the quality of soils delivered were fair. We normally purchase from HOME IMPROVEMENT STORES and yes, whatever the quantity, they have always loaded it without having to explain my reasons(I appear strong, fit and healthy however, with a recent surgeries of an artificial disc, four fusions and rods up my back). Having been in the health field with many years of experience catering to the public, hearing this truly disturbs me. When and if I hear the matter has been resolved in favor of the customer, in better judgement on principal of what appears to be inconsiderate poor customer service, I will no longer purchase from or recommend them. read more

This place is great. Its a large wholesale dirt yard, dont expect much more. Their prices are much lower than a big box store and their product is incomparably better. 1 yd (27 cu ft) of high quality compost would be over a hundred bucks at home depot. If you have a truck or trailer, come here and get it for less than half. read more

I am beyond ticked off at the Dallas facility manager. I went to this Living Earth location on 6/19 and ordered 4 yards of landscape mix and 2 tons of chopped rock. They told me the mix would be delivered on Monday and the rock on Friday. The mix showed up on time. After waiting a week and all day on Friday, the rock delivery never came. I called the Dallas office at 3:51pm on Friday asking about my delivery. At first, they couldn't find my order. When they did find it, they said "we could not reach you by phone so we did not deliver". My response was "what?". Then, the manager got on the phone and stated that after the first delivery on Monday, they "shredded" my credit card information and needed the information AGAIN before they could make the second delivery of my order. He said, "I tried to call you but your mailbox was full." He proceeded to tell me I would need to wait another week for delivery. I was pretty surprised at his response since I had no clue what his firm's internal procedures were. I had the written order in hand with a written delivery date and I provided my credit card information at their office on 6/19. At no time did anyone at that office advise me that they needed my credit card information AGAIN at anytime in the future BEFORE they could deliver per their written order I received AFTER I provided them with my credit card information. It must have been a challenging week for this guy because he did not seem to care that his problem now became my problem and he was extremely rude. He got irate and hung up the phone on me. I have NO CLUE whether or not this company will deliver the second part of my order or not. The salesperson that sold me the product on 6/19 was very professional and very helpful. I was on a tight time schedule and I was assured that the delivery would be made on Friday. Now...today 6/25, I don't even know if this company intends to deliver the rock, A WEEK LATE, NEXT FRIDAY because the "customer NO-SERVICE" manager HUNG UP on me. His excuse was "I tried to call you". What a clown show. read more

I wrote this earlier this month when I was planting the garden and using the soil... now I have seen how the plants grow in it. The plants I left in pots are doing better than the ones in the ground. I have been gardening for a long time and I have never seen a tomato that was not planted do better than the one that is planted. We will be amending the soil I bought to amend the soil in my yard. I bought 5 yards of compost and a yard of bedding soil. They separated the two different soils with poly which was nice. They dumped it right were I asked it and right on time. The price was reasonable. I would buy from them again. read more

Horrible bedding! Salesperson told me the professional bedding mix was a blend of "proprietary" ingredients, but it was supposed to be a "sandy loam" and "compost" -- I guess when it's ONLY very slightly decomposed tree trimmings and trash, you wouldn't want people to know what they were getting! Ordered 42 cu yds for a large project. The pile was so hot I actually, literally burned my arm on it. Steam came off the pile for two days in 80-plus-degree weather. We had a fixed install date and had only short time for mix to cool. Against wishes bedding went on and the plants in, and the massive nitrogen-suck almost did them all in. When you can see whole branches, it ain't composted, folks. Found surgical gloves and booties, condoms and other trash, but no soil of any kind, certainly no compost. read more

Awful service! I pulled through the gates to have my bagged mulch and soils loaded into my vehicle and was told to load it myself. I am petite and to lift 10 bags of mulch 56 lbs each and 4 bags of 26 lbs of soil is ridiculous! Shame on your Living Earth! You would have had a repeat customer had you been kind enough to load my purchases. Women who are reading this review, find another place to buy your soil or mulches that is unless you want to load and be cat called by numerous landscaping men who are waiting to have their trailers and dump trucks loaded . These men have who have nothing better to do than gawk! And one more thing, this place isn't in the nicest part of town. Stay far away! read more

Hate to say it - but after 12 years of using this company - I am done. I know as a residential (not wholesale) customer my business is not as volume specific or as noteworthy as wholesale. Was advised today that the minimum delivery quantity of decomposed granite is 4 yards. I was not planning on burying my house in DG - so I guess I will bring my business elsewhere. I had 17.5 yards of "organic" soil delivered to my home on April 20th and I have two issues. First my iron gate was damaged by the driver and he left before my husband could show him the damage. I called the office and talked to Jeff who said the driver had not called and told him of any damage. I told Jeff that's because he left so fast. Then I was told by Jeff the driver was not from his office but another, he would check into the damage then call me back as of today April 27th no call from the company. My second issue is if this if "organic" soil why does it have so many pieces of plastic I also found a metal can, some type of iron piece of metal and glass. I'm not holding any high hopes for my vegetables, it's a shame a company has to cheat customers like that. I paid well over $900.00 for this dirt! read more

i do not know where these other reviewers go but at the California Crossing location, i got in line with other trucks and drove up to the window, paid for my compost and followed the line to the tractor with a front end loader who loaded me in less than a minute and I drove away without ever getting out of my vehicle. The compost was still steaming so it was good and active and my garden loves it. I NEVER saw bags anywhere, just MOUNTAINS of soil, mulch or compost and they were loading it as fast as you could drive through. They certainly would not have allowed you to try to load it yourself. read more

I wish there was a no star rating? I purchased 10 yards of "Vegetable Garden Mix" from Living Earth on 12/13/2016 and had it delivered. I put it in my new above ground garden boxes and planted spinach, lettuce, and onions. I had tiny sprouts come up but they never grew, even after weeks of being in the soil. I accidentally dropped some lettuce seeds on the decomposed granite walk between the boxes and they grew better than the seeds in the garden mix. The garden mix was made from sand, expanded shale, and pieces of wood, no dirt or soil or compost. It appeared to be raw compost material (wood pieces) that had not yet been composted. From these pieces of wood grew a lot of mushrooms. The only thing this "Garden Soil" would grow was mushrooms. The people at Living Earth don't know what they are doing and cost me a bundle to have the soil removed and purchase good soil and have it put in my garden boxes. read more

Have NEVER seen bagged products here. They have literally mountains of compost and various soils. I get in line (there is always a line), pull my truck up to the drive by window, tell them what I want, pay for it, drive to the loading location, tell the guy on the front end loader what I want and how much, and in 30 seconds the first yard is in my truck and I am on my way out of there. Compost is steaming and nearly finished. I have found that plants grow like gang busters in it but I have to add nitrogen in about a month as the compost has tied up its nitrogen in finishing the breaking down. (that nitrogen is then available for next year's crops). Also got Rose Soil at another time for a new raised bed. Boy did it smell good and rich like good earth. Could not be more pleased. I pile it on top of my garden and plant directly into it without digging it in. I top dressed my blackberries with it last year and have a wonderful crop this year. I can't imagine what these bad reviews are talking about. Seems like they are talking about another company. And a minimum delivery of 4 yards really is not too much for a delivery. read more

I have used Living Earth for years and have been happy with their products, but on 6/23/2012 I learned of a buisness practice that I find under handed and misleading. I paid for 4 yards of Professional Bedding Mix and the invoice was higher than expected. I was told that there was a 1.50 fuel surcharge for each yard. I asked why this was since I was picking up the product myself. I was told that this was for the "Loader". Mind you ther loader picks up a 3 yard bucket and drives 40 feet and then dumps it on my trailer. It then picks up a 1 ton bucket and drives another 40 feet and dumps it on my trailer. In all I pay $6.00 to drive less than 100 yards. This is just a means of hiding the true cost of the yard of material. They can quote a yard as being $1.50 less and then it sounds like their prices are competitive with others. It is no different that an airline charging a baggage handling fee. Price your material by the yard and stop charging consumers with smoke and mirrors. read more
