Would be a 5 STAR review for Dr. Lily. She is a great chiropractor. The lowered stars are for the massage services and lack of responsiveness of Living Roots to multiple attempts to reach out regarding my experience. I tried emailing multiple times and never received a response. I booked a 30 min massage to try out their massage therapist. She was ok, not bad but not amazing either. My main issue was, however, from the time I walked into her massage room, until the time I walked out the living roots front door, was 24 minutes...for a 30 min massage. I was taken back late (was there before my start time) from her going a little over with the prior client. So I got into her room late and was walking out the front door before my scheduled end time. I tried for a long time to wait for a response from the office before posting the review but never heard back. Dr. Lily is the best! She's super sweet, professional, and great at what she does. The staff is super friendly and I always come in to them being attentive. And I leave feeling better about my spinal health! I tell my coworkers to come here and encourage everyone to get aligned here. The staff here do their job well! I haven't gotten a massage here so I cannot review on that. To use the bathroom, you have to ask for the key. I've used the bathroom once (it's not in the same space) and it's a very clean bathroom. Dr. Lily is phenomenal. She is very knowledgeable and answers any questions that you have. I have been to several chiropractors, and the biggest thing that stuck out to me about Dr. Lily was how she talked me through everything she was doing. OK, I almost did 1 Star so people stay away and don't overrun my favorite clinic, but I guess that wouldn't be accurate or honest. So, here is a detailed review based on my coming here off and on for a year, and finally committing to at least 1 massage for 6 months. Value: 5 Quality: 5 Service: 4 Experience: 5 Context: I have a grumpy back. My bottom 3 vertebrae are very slightly mis-aligned, and I have a slightly crooked pelvis. I'm apparently a glutton for punishment, because I also run 10k+ races every month or so. So, my lower back has been a hot mess for quite a while. I first came here on a Groupon for 3 massages, and unfortunately encountered their rude front-desk guy who ended up leaving (thank goodness; see other reviews for details). Even though the front desk guy had horrible customer service, the quality of the Doctors and Massage Therapists canceled it out. I ended up getting about 4 massages over the course of a year from Gabi (search for her in the Reviews for more details!) and 1 adjustment from Dr. Fatima (I have not had an adjustment from the other Dr.). I've now started going at least monthly for a massage followed by an adjustment. While their scheduling / reminder system is a little clunky, and sometimes they get too busy, the quality and value of the Massages and Adjustments are UNSURPASSED. Yes, it warrants Caps Lock - they really know their trade, take pride in their work, and put in the effort to personalize treatments for each of their patients. There are currently 2 full-time Massage Therapists, Gabi and Vlad. I've been massaged by both, but mostly Gabi. They are both extremely good, will focus on your problem areas, and be able to detect your problematic muscle groups, and the correct level of pressure for each area. In one sentence, I would say that Gabi does more of a "deep", focused muscle penetration using thumbs and elbows, while Vlad does more of a broad, "gentler" muscle stretching using palms and forearms. Gabi is akin to an accu-pressure cane, and Vlad is akin to a rolling pin or foam roller. This is of course a gross over-generalization. But, if you are new to massage and unsure what you want, you could tentatively consider Gabi "deeper and sharper" and Vlad "shallower and gentler". In an ideal world, I'd get a massage sandwich of Vlad doing big, sweeping stretches of my back, then Gabi digging deep into my stubborn knots, then Vlad doing another session. Money/Price/Value: I have Kaiser insurance, which pays for chiropractic adjustments, but not massages; with insurance, each chiropractic adjustment is $15. I pay their current 6-month membership rate, which is $300 for 6 months and 6 massages, with additional massages costing only $35 extra. This is a frigging STEAL. Assume you tip $5 per massage, and you end up getting 12 massages in six months; that averages out to $600, or $50 per massage. For someone who seriously needs treatment to not feel a constant dull throb, this is a deal far better than even big chains like Massage Envy (which are apparently super gross and unethical, in addition to being giant corporations. I highly recommend Living Roots Chiropractic. They are extremely skillful professionals who do great work at a low price. They're also a small, local business that is owned/operated by women. I had never heard of Living Roots Chiropractic before seeing a Groupon offer. After checking the (glowing) reviews, I decided to pull the trigger. My appointment was for a massage and one chiropractic adjustment. When I called the office, I was helped immediately and given an appointment. The receptionist suggested that I fill out the paperwork ahead of time since I had a very tight schedule that day. If you go, You may want to allow extra time, as there are a lot of questions asked and you may find the appointment runs longer than expected. Dr. Liliana Ulloa ("Dr. Lily") was courteous and professional, and put me at ease right away with my back and neck issues. She carefully studied my back and neck and quickly found the areas where problems. I noticed right away that things have changed since my old days of visiting a chiropractor! The adjustment platform is motorized and provides traction, which really helps when the chiropractor is making adjustments. There are other mechanical devices the Dr. Lily used as well, and I got relief right away. I set up a follow-up appointment as I will be continuing to use their service! read more

Dr. Fatima appeared to be kind and interested in helping me feel better. She spent very little time with me however so I can't be sure how interested she was. She didn't seem very present in the session. I spent more time with the office manager/personal injury case manager who took the most mansplaining, condescending tone with me. So much so that I asked him to explain his line of discussion. This made him very defensive. It was very strange to be taken in a room before an appointment with a doctor and asked financial questions of seemingly no relevance. I would not return to this office which is a shame because conceptually the idea of supporting two women doctors is right up my alley. Best of luck to them. read more

As a former massage therapist, who has taught massage and run a student clinic, I have to say I was always skeptical of chiropractic because I've met several sleezy ones. This place, though, is really top notch. I came in and saw Dr. Fatema last week to try the Webster technique. I'm pregnant with my second child (I have a 12 year old! So I'm older than I was with my first and this pregnancy is just harder!) and my baby is breech and I am due soon and heard this would help. I did not expect the adjustment to do so much. Dr. Fatema is the cutest, and very professional at the same time. She adjusted my hips, which have been aching in the SI joint and in the hip joints, and let me know my right hip was higher. It made perfect sense because I was having pubic symphysis pain that has been excruciating, and she even adjusted that with a tool and I felt so much better! I went back yesterday for a follow up adjustment and today all the aches I've had all throughout my pregnancy are gone. It's amazing! She adjusted my upper back and neck too and I can feel the difference. So would I recommend chiro to everyone? No. I still think we have to figure out what is causing our postural problems and not always get it snapped and popped back into place. But for acute pain, this stuff works. Would I recommend chiro for pregnancy. YES!! As any pregnant woman knows, trying to keep good posture while pregnant is tough, and I'm a yoga teacher!!! I haven't been able to do much exercising because my hips, pelvic floor and pubic pain has been so bad. I can finally walk and not grunt about it the entire time! I can get up from sitting without grunting. I would highly recommend Dr. Fatema. I also got a massage from Julie and it was fantastic. She was so caring, nurturing and her strokes flowed from on to another. She worked on all my trouble spots and explained what she would be doing first, and then didn't try and chat and make small talk (I have dealt with this so much in my massage career!!). **BUSINESS HAD MY REVIEW UPDATE REMOVED** I did a more honest review of this business and they had it removed, which in turn left only my more positive review. So I've decided instead of doing an update, I'd just remove the original all together and start all over. I've decided to write a more accurate review, as my original review was done while still going here a few years ago. As part of a discount incentive being offered at the time for posting a review. I felt at the time it would be a little awkward to write a more honest review while still going here. But even during that time there were things that made me ultimately decide to stop treatment here. CHIROPRACTIC EXPERIENCE: I initially came here as a recommendation from a friend, and I saw there was a Groupon deal; so I decided to check it out. I came in and was seen by Dr. Lily, and explained to her that I was had old injuries from my military service dealing with my lower back and knee, but was also having newer issues that was preventing me from doing weighted squats, and was having pain in my right shoulder and right wrist. I even told Dr. Lily that I believed my pain was an anterior pelvic tilt issue. Dr. Lily recorded all of the issues noted, and worked on the issues I presented to her. I've seen a Chiropractor before for basic adjustments to have me back in working order, but it seemed everything done with Dr. Lily was just a basic procedure for a typical adjustment (popping of the back and hips and neck through various positions.) She did note tightness in my IT band and in my neck, but the adjustment did not seem very specific to my actual issues. Because some of my pain was attributed to my 8 years in the Army, I've looked into various self treatments over the years to remedy my issues and have watched all types of Chiropractic treatments online via various techniques (Gonstead, Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), Graston, etc.) and techniques like IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), EMS (Electro Magnetic Stimulation) and cold laser therapy for muscular issues. Which I've gone through as well, so I've not only seen a lot of different adjustments for a lot of different issues. But have also been through various techniques, and have spoken to various Chiropractors since. I also know it takes times for adjustments to work sometimes, as it may have taken time for issues to occur and they may have been present for a while. So as I didn't notice improvement right away, I trusted Dr. Lily's treatment suggestion and continued treatment for about 4 months with several sessions a week for the first few weeks. Which then gradually tapered off as the the issues SHOULD have subsided....but they didn't. I initially stopped coming here as I wasn't seeing my issues get better with treatment, and have had better results since elsewhere. After the 4 months of treatment, I ended up leaving Dr. Lily's care with issues still in my lower back, my right left knee, my right shoulder & the issues I associated with possible Anterior Pelvic Tilt. Dr. Lily would perform standard Chiropractic techniques and procedures, and often use an activator tool that some Chiropractors use. But for my major issues I felt the activator wasn't the appropriate method of treatment, as I saw no actual benefit or results from. It almost felt as if she was just going through a standard adjustment practice, versus actually attempting to treat the actual cause of my issues. And that was very disappointing! MASSAGE EXPERIENCE: As far as their massages, the original massage therapist I would see back in 2014 was really good and used the perfect pressure for deep tissue massages. But he ended up leaving at the end of my treatments, so for me there also no reason to come back after that. But I did come back a few years later for one deep tissue massage while my girlfriend was getting treated regularly there. The new massage therapist Gabi was really nice and even though I told her I wanted a deep tissue massage, which she gave. She also listened to my body and could feel in some areas deep tissue would make the tightness worse; like on my IT bands. So she gave pressure needed, without further aggravating any issues. She also gave me some tips and suggestions, for when I do stretching and foam rolling in my everyday practice and for after running and doing leg exercises. OVERALL: Overall the standard adjustments people tend to come in for aren't bad, if that's what you're looking for. But some techniques or practices should really be looked at and reassessed again, or not done at all, as I don't think some issues being treated have the proper qualification or experience. My minor issues I felt relief from, but the major issues I came in to be seen for were never fixed. read more

Loved it. I've gotten massages from Reflexology places before for the tension in my shoulders and upper back before, but they were painful and ineffective. THIS place was amazing. They we're able to find knots and get rid of them without causing me pain. And they helped me to relax, which is usually difficult for people because I'm always so tense. I've been seeing chiropractors and physical therapists for over 4 years continuously; to treat multiple injuries, arthritis in the spine and neck, torn shoulders and recently carpal tunnel. I knew Dr. Fatima from a friend, so we became friends first before I decided to try her FULL BODY ADJUSTMENT technique. This review is not because I'm friend with her but it's to illustrate to others what had she done in that session and how beneficial was it for someone like myself, with multiple pain issues. Unlike most chiropractors I've seen -where the doctor adjusts the spine and neck only- Dr. Fatima did the following adjustments on me: 1- Lower spine (Sacral-lumbar area) Right and Left. 2- Mid spine (lumber-thoracic) 3- Upper spine (cervical/ neck) 4- Hip adjustment and stretching session proceed by her using to efficient activator tools; 5- She loosen up the shoulders' joints (where I have a tear on both, right and left) a-Anterior b-Posterior 6- Chest area 7- She worked on the extremely tight and inflamed forearms and around the elbows. 8- She proceeded to the wrists; a-with the activator b-with using her hands to adjust out of place bones 9- Loosen up IT bands (lateral side of the upper thighs) 10- Knees and around the knees 11- Calfs 12- Feet I think Dr. Fatima (and my friend) doesn't know yet; but this is a new thing in the world of chiropractors. I've seen many in the past 4 years continuously; this is the best effective method to feel loosened-up: so you could dance, walk, play, do yard work, wrestle with your spouse, chase your dog,...... and suffer less. WE all get older and we have no way to escape the pain. This is inevitable. But we could use adjustments and light stretches around the joints to continue living, with the help of a professional. Bought a groupon deal because i've been having neck problems as the result of a car accident. BEST DECISION I MADE. I went in for an appointment with Dr. Lily - I adore her! It was my first ever chiropractic appointment and she talked me through the process, making me aware of what she was about to do and why she was doing it. During the consultation portion she genuinely listened. She was very gentle, but firm. I felt she was very trustworthy. Then they gave me my follow up appointment at a discounted rate, where Dr. Lily reviewed what we did last week, checked my alignment again, and she gave me her recommendations. Tomorrow I go in for the massage portion of the groupon deal - I'll report back on that later. All in all, I DEFINITELY recommend this place. The office seems fairly small (but I haven't been through their whole portion) and it's hiding in the back corner behind the building, but they are definitely wonderful people! I had purchased a groupon, for $39. A one hour clinical massage and then an assessment and adjustment. My massage was fabulous, she took the care to ask about my working situation and to help with and also help prevent different aches and pains that come with standing all day. Joyce was kind and fun to talk to, and was attentive to my sighs and quinces during the massage. her pressure was fantastic, and she definitely was able to dig deep! After my massage I saw Dr. Lily. I loved how first thing first, she wants you to know why all of this spine stuff is important! With everything she notices on your body that needs to be adjusted, she explains using diagrams and fake spinal columns. After a couple pokes, twist and cracks... my legs and back, were on straight! what a great feeling! Love my adjustments by Dr. Lili... in the past I've had chiropractors that lack social skills, that have speech impediments, or were simply too harsh with the adjustments. As an avid weight lifter, it seems like I can't really get away from back problems, Liliana knows what the source of the problem is and just pushes things back where they should be. Fun to visit, a good Words with Friends foe, and happy to chit-chat with while she works me up to forgetting what she's about to do. This was my first chiropractic session ever. Dr. Liliana Ulloa was so friendly and informative! My significant other and I both had appointments that were 90 minutes differences, her staffs were able to squeeze both of us in so we could be more comfortable. During the session, she explained everything she was going to do and oh my goodness, I finally felt relieved from all the tensions from my back and neck! There were some great ASMR cracks noise and afterwards I felt really loose. We were suppose to have a massage with the session however they were booked up pretty far back into the day and asked if we would like to trade it for a follow up chiropractic check up. As I walked in, I was a little nervous because I've always been afraid to go to the chiropractor. Victoria welcomed me and got me started on my paper work and I relaxed a little. Had a massage and while it was very good, I wanted it to go deeper and more evenly disbursed. It felt like she did one side much longer than the other and had to rush to finish the other side. Overall though it was not bad but not better than the happy day spa massage on Stockton blvd. which is also much cheaper. Dr. Ulloa was great for the adjustment. I feel good right now, but not as good as I would have hoped in terms of providing relief from the pain. I Love this place. Had an adjustment for the first time and it relived a lot of tension. Dr Lily is amazing!!! She talked me through everything she was doing. I went back a second time for my follow up and it was just the same. I've never had my necked cracked and that also relived the stiffness. Leslie at the front is so nice as well. I bought a Groupon for a massage and adjustment (Patrick and Lili). I liked my first visit so much I purchased 3 more for myself and 3 for my boyfriend right after. The small cute office is very welcoming, the receptionist nice and accurate, every staff member very attentive. I can't say enough good things about the deep tissue massage I got - Patrick found all the knots in my back and the pressure was just right. I'll certainly be coming to see him whenever my back is bothering me. Lili listened to my concerns, checked my spine, adjusted quite a few things. This was my first chiropractic visit ever and Lili made me feel very comfortable and explained everything she did along the way. Made 1st apt as seem like a nice fit, but had to reschedule me the following week, then confirmed the day before and even few hours before that all was set to go... When arrive there however it turned out the establishment was having some internal issue with the contracted masseuse so was left hanging. Was never informed had to reschedule or could see at another location, instead made up some story and blew me off. Oh well if cannot put the customer first, I will not waste any more of my time and go elsewhere. read more
