My mom had a stoke in April 2023. The stroke affected her speech and cognitive functions. After the initial treatments and follow ups, there was not much more western medicine can offer besides rehabilitation. One of her friends suggested acupuncture, so we gave it a try. Frankly, I was skeptical about how effective it would be. I called and inquired for more information. The front desk answered the phone, patiently answered all my questions, and made an appointment. Since it's just a been little over a month for my mom, he thought we should start her treatments aggressively at the rate of 4 times per week. Quickie, next day update: I got Graston Method the day after, and it reduced my pain significantly. Over the past couple years, several people have told me to try cupping as part of my pain management. An opportunity presented itself yesterday to go to a session, and I took it. The doctor and his receptionist were very sweet and soft spoken. He walked me through my treatment step-by-step and even explained the office cleaning processes. He told me to expect drowsiness, which I did feel for about 20 minutes after my appointment. The office itself is beautiful; there's warm tea and water in the lobby and a community acupuncture room. My cupping room was semi-private; there were two beds but I was the only client. I will admit I didn't research the effects of cupping; I came home in more discomfort than I'd been in all day. My shoulder began spasming and hasn't stopped. I went to bed nauseous, sweating, dizzy and feverish (I'm assuming something inside me is breaking up and moving around!). I slept maybe an hour and I woke up still nauseous. I've been drinking as much water as I can hold and I feel like absolute crap. I may be the odd ball out but wow, I was not a fan of this place. Disclaimer: I have had acupuncture done many times, for many years! And I love it. I thought I'd find somewhere closer to home, since driving all the way to Banker's Hill to get taken care of. I made a bad choice. Yes, the facility was clean, and the lady at the front desk but that's where it ended. The dr that took care of me (owner) was SO rushed, rushed through my questionnaire, literally just stuck the needles in and left. While I'm also used to my acupuncturist leaving the room so the needles can do their work - there was zero bedside manner. When he came back in he threw on the lights and removed all the needles and had me up and out within 30 seconds. I was shocked. I'll never be back here again. I have been seeing Dr. Kuo since I feel like my body need some TLC to recover from the stress (mental stress does significant damage to your body, don't ignore it!) I had experience last year and I am glad that I did. Thanks to Dr. Kuo, I feel much better now. Every time I go to Dr. Kuo's office, he gives me his full attention and listens to my concern, that makes me feel at ease. Dr. Kuo will then explain to me what his diagnosis is and then explain to me what his treatment will try to focus on. If you don't mind a long read, let me share one of my experience: I had some chest pain and really high blood pressure. I went to a doctor @ Sharp trying to schedule a stress test for my heart (chest pain is no joke). They refused to do that. Gave me a ECG and instead prescribed me some heartburn medicine, saying that should help... even though I have told them I have zero heartburn issue. The response I got is "Give it a shot and if it doesn't help, come back"... I never took it. I was so disappointed, so even though I am not sure if Dr. Kuo can help me, I let him know of my concern. Dr. Kuo listened to my concern, checked my blood pressure, explained to me what that means and asked about what happened recently. Based on all the facts, he then let me know this could be stress related (lack of rest as well) instead of a serious problem and prescribed some herbal formula to ease my symptom. He then monitored my blood pressure to make sure the formula works (it did) and since then I have felt a lot better. Anyway, I am not saying Dr. Kuo is someone that can cure everything but I do want to say that Dr. Kuo is a very good doctor who cares and listens to his patients. They deserve all the stars. Highly recommend this place if you're having fertility issues. My husband and I were trying to get pregnant for six months using ovulation sticks and tracking everything. My friend who is a Doula recommended I try acupuncture. I came to see Dr. Kuo Once or twice weekly for one month I also took Primrose and Vitex and stared at the full moon (recommendation from a hippy friend). Dr Kuo said my energy was blocked up. I got headaches the first three times I went. I think I was getting everything moving again after that I felt like it was very relaxing. The next month my pregnancy test was POSITIVE. Fast forward nine months later and I'm SO done being pregnant in Poway in September when it's 100 degrees. I was 39+5 days. My Obgyn did a membrane sweep and told me it was unlikely my baby will come in the next week because I was only 1 cm dilated. I immediately called Dr. Kuo and he got me that in that day to help induce labor. The next morning I started having contractions about four hours apart. I have been seeing Dr. Kuo for the past 5 years (6/2012-7/2013 in NYC and 8/2013-now through phone calls, emails, and communication app). I strongly suggest this Chinese medicine clinic to patients who want to cure their health issues more completely and fundamentally instead of regular western medical treatments (e.g. drugs). Since I started Chinese medicine last May, I have received acupuncture sessions twice/week by Dr. Kuo (the rest of sessions so far) and Dr. Lai (the first two sessions) and massage sessions by Daniel once/month. I feel satisfaction, effectiveness, and confidence of Dr. Kuo's Chinese medicine knowledge and skills on curing my severe headache, menstrual abnormality and cold, and Daniel's massage practice. Since last January my headache was getting worse and worse, my life was ruined by endless pain, the feeling of splitting in my head, tiredness and drowsiness. It caused me not to do what I should have done regularly to recover my other disorders. The very severe, out-of-controlled headache last May made me seek the help by Chinese medicine while 6 pills of pain killers/day (the max amount) could not help me anymore. Last May, in my first two sessions by Dr. Lai to cure headache, her acupuncture practice was obviously, quite effective to suppress the headache. I felt the true pleasure from this relief because I had suffered for several months. However, Dr. Lai had surgery and took a break after the hurt to her foot in hiking, so I switched to Dr. Kuo to continue my Chinese medicine therapy and acupuncture sessions in the following months until now; otherwise, I would stick with Dr. Lai. After his acupuncture sessions and Chinese medicine, since last August, the severe headache has rarely happened itself with no reason (except the headache caused by my emotional problems that could prolong the period of the treatments). At the same time, because Dr. Kuo also focuses on the treatment to cure my menstrual problem on abnormally short period (2 days), the period is coming back to its normal range, 5 days. Within one week with the Chinese medicine, I feel much better and could not see yellow stuff in the sputum/secretion. His Chinese medicine works very well again. Besides of Dr. Kuo's acupuncture and Chinese medicine, the massage therapist Daniel's skills amazes me because he combined his knowledge of Chinese acupuncture points and massage skills, which makes him stand out among general massage therapists. Every time after I have massage by Daniel, I feel much more relief and lightness from headache and muscle pain. The feeling of relief and lightness could last for up to several days so I have less stress for work-out and using computers. Even though there is still room to cure my multiple health problems, I feel great amount of peace in my mind and confidence of Dr. Kuo's Chinese medicine practice. Furthermore, Daniel's massage practice with the aid of his knowledge on acupuncture points is highly appreciated. Dr. Kuo is an amazingly knowledgeable, experienced, patient and empathetic health practitioner---and he gets results. He is treating me for a condition that has very few treatment options through Western medicine. Currently, I'm not a good candidate for those treatments (and they're kind of scary anyway), so I'm very grateful to have found Dr. Kuo.
