The catfish was a less flaky kind more mushy than I'd like. But the batter was nice. The jalapeño cornbread was just okay. The black eyed peas were a bit watery but fine. The fruit tea was different and not too sweet. My mom loves the food here so I'm rating it on her scale. Liz's Kitchen is a great example of a southern meat and three style restaurant serving up some great country cooking. There are two dining rooms, and they do fill up fast. The menu is displayed on a chalkboard on the wall and orders are taken at the table. Liz's does have a Facebook page where the daily menu is posted. We enjoyed the fried chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese, pinto beans, and mashed potatoes, and my husband had some banana pudding for dessert. Everything was tasty! Service was excellent. Everyone was nice and helpful. The dressing was good and the jalapeño cornbread was probably the best thing out of everything. The mac and cheese was not good at all unfortunately and had zero seasoning. The sweet potatoes were just meh as well. All Liz's southern food is delicious. Her pies are in a league of their own. The servers are as close to having dinner served by your family. Very clean establishment. The fish was marvelous, some veggies were good, not all. We ate there 2x wasn't better than the 1st time. Chicken livers were very tender and fried just right. The deviled eggs were slightly sweet. Got some banana pudding which they serve warm. It will be just as good cold because it is fire. I absolutely love the food here. I thought I would never be able to find good soul food since I moved here from Memphis, but Miss Liz changed my mind. If you go in, you will see the Owner working just as hard as the staff the customer service is always amazing there. Every time I go there, it is a packed house but no matter how packed it is. They are still so nice. Today was mine and my husband's first time at Liz's. I saw a segment about it on Channel 5's Talk of the Town so we had to try it. I had their catfish with hush puppies, white beans and cabbage and my husband had the catfish, hush puppies, white beans and slaw. Everything we had was very good and was cooked just as we liked it. While we live in Nashville, our niece told us about this soul food place in Goodlettsville that served delicious food at a reasonable price. We visited Liz's Kitchen last week and ordered the catfish with veggies and were amazed by the portion size, flavor of the food, and price. In addition the atmosphere was homey and the people very friendly. Since then, we've been regular customers. We've tried several dishes and everything is down right delicious to the last bite. The food is expedited to your table IMMEDIATELY upon cooking, so the temperature of everything is absolutely perfect. (We foodies are very sensitive to eating food at the correct temperature; that's the only way to truly taste it as the chef intended it.) The catfish was superb. There's no other way to describe it. This place is Top Drawer ! Like Leah Chase The Queen of Creole Cuisine in New Orleans. Liz is that good !! And it doesn't get any better than that. I have eaten there for years, and it's always packed, it's always fantastic, and it's reasonably priced. You will come out of there completely full. Friday they have fried catfish domestically raised that is crispy as a french fry on the outside and warm and flaky on the inside. They also have ribs that literally melt in your mouth. Liz's husband worked on an aircraft carrier for many years serving 5000 people a day , and knows his way around the kitchen. Best I've ever had !!! And they are both the nicest people that you ever want to meet. This place is right in the middle of Goodlettsville Tennessee right next to the courthouse.
