I was born and raised in Upper Darby and have been going to Llanerch since I was a kid and still go as an adult. It's a good spot to go to after midnight. Today, I had the WORST server. He was very clearly in a bad mood. He was nice when he came to the table but when he left, he was very loudly slamming things and cursing out loud. He was also listening to music on his cell phone loudly while taking our order and walking around. The worst and most disgusting thing he did was give my friend his side of gravy, get some gravy on his finger, lick it off his finger and then give my friend the gravy. I practically grew up eating here! This was the main place I went to with friends in middle school and high school. I'm not sure if management changed or if I was in on and "off night" but the food was nowhere near what I remember it being! I was there with a friend. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and a bagel with cream cheese. My friend ordered a frozen hot chocolate at my recommendation (I lead a much healthier lifestyle these days but I used to come here just for these drinks!) and cheese fries. I was horrified when my friend received his frozen hot chocolate. I remember it having an almost slushie consistency, finely blended ice and a super chocolatey flavor. What he received appeared to be water with huge, whole ice cubes and about an 1" of chocolate syrup at the bottom. It tasted worse than it looked. Chocolate flavor was nowhere in sight unless you literally drank the chocolate syrup by itself. I politely asked the waitress to remake it. The second version did a better job at breaking up 2 or 3 chunks of ice but just as disgusting as the first. A $5 cup of ice and chocolate syrup! My soup came out shortly after. 1) The cup was half empty. 2) There were about a total of 4 or 5 noodles, 3 chunks of celery and zero chicken. 3) The soup was cold at best. 4) ZERO flavor. It essentially tasted like dirty water. Sad to say the saltine crackers had more taste to them than the soup and I have a VERY sensitive palate to any and all seasonings, especially salt. My bagel was cold by the time it came out and unevenly cooked. The prepackaged Philadelphia cream cheese was my saving grace. My friend's cheese fries were horrid. He LOVES salt, I mean LOVES it. Well, I don't know what in the world they use for cheese there but it tasted primarily like salt and was as thick as glue. Even my friend was appalled. I used to get cheese fries every time I came here and I remember the cheese being smooth and creamy. Oh and the fries were soggy. Not one fry was above the level of apple sauce mushiness. No variation in texture whatsoever to the dish, at all. Because I have so many fond memories of this place I will probably end up trying the food again at some point but I would probably only return if someone else was paying. I think the main attraction of this place is that it's one of the only restaurants I know of in the area that's 24 hours. This makes it a prime spot for all of the DelCo drunks. They sat us directly behind the only other patrons in the restaurant and the entire time the woman behind us who was clearly drunk was cursing, screaming and overall obnoxious. She must have known some of the staff because they too were participating in her drunken conversations and were discussing things I can only hope they'd only discuss if they were friends. Either way, it was very unpleasant. Our waitress, who was new, was friendly and prompt with service but I should hope so in a restaurant with a total of 4 customers. Part of the problem with this restaurant is the fact that it is way, way too broad. I know diners often have a variety of food but I'm sure that this place takes the cake in menu size. It might be something those with bland palates savor because of the "variety," but it likely leaves a lack of focus and probably attributes to having even the simplest of dishes left tasting sub par at best. I can't even imagine how a busy dinner service would go if the customers ordered items all over the menu! Awful. My heart is broken over this place. I BEGGED my friend to come here! had breakfast here on a saturday. it was very busy, and we were seated at the counter. i love sitting at a counter at a diner, it makes it feel real to me and i like that my server doesn't have to go far or run around. our food was great, no complaints! the potatoes were superb and my fruit was fresh. pancakes were nice and fluffy, coffee was endless!!! the bill wasnt too high either. i loved our waitress, she was attentive when we needed her to be. i think all the hype about the movie being filmed here is a little too much. selling movie t-shirts will hopefully go away soon. it takes away a little from the atmosphere i think. Maybe they should spend the $ from the shirt sales on renovating the bathrooms. that was probably the ugliest, most decrepit bathroom i have ever stepped into. also, i tipped on my credit card and they never input it into the system. i dont like that you pay at the front cashier. i left a really good tip for my waitress and it never went through. most restaurants the server takes the payments and puts in the tips into the computer. i can pretend it was a one time thing but when i called to have it corrected they basically didnt care that she didnt get her money. i wanted her to get her tip, so i drove back another day, and she wasnt there. i gave her money to someone who said they were the manager. i hope she got it, i am not convinced. i'd go back but hopefully i would bring cash next time, and maybe when its not so busy. read more

Good tasting food, however, only when you are lucky!!! Don't stop, keep driving by; they don't understand what customer wants like safe, and good food with pleasant service. But clueless wait staff and no oversight of staff. They hire wait staff that is rude to the customer and serve food that is clearly done wrong and ask you to try it before returning the food to the kitchen. In addition, they have served spoil food from the freezer showcase and don't look until you are lucky person getting the spoiled food. This use to be a place where you could get great food 24 hour day, now you don't want to stop in. A rare one star review. I could reduce our experience to one word: SAD. I like greasy spoons, I eat at diners often. This is just a terrible one. Snapper soup: not hot enough. Asked for it heated up, it came back almost exactly the same temperature. Tasted okay. Kind of gooey texture. As the waitress took away our soup cups, she dropped a saltines wrapper on my salad. She left it there. She was about as indifferent as any server I've ever had. Loudly plopping the dishes down on the table like she was mad at us. I will say she came back often to see if we needed anything. We needed a better diner. It wasn't on the menu. Spanakopita: super sad. Phyllo dough that was a soggy, unappetizing mess. We all took it off and just ate the spinach filling, which was decent. I got the Greek sampler, which had pastitsio, moussaka, and dolmades in addition to the spanakopita. The moussaka was kind of okay. Again, not really hot enough. Pastitsio was dull, dry, not fully heated. Dolmades were okay. Far from the best I've had, but not bad. The salad was okay. A huge mound of feta, which I had to reduce by 2/3 to get it proportional for a salad. The decor is really super sad. Ugly, old, but even when it was new it wasn't attractive. Waitress was pleasant. My fellow diners seemed to enjoy their food though side dishes were mixed up and salads forgotten. My spanakopita (spinach pie) was horrible and the next day my stomach is suffering. Advertised on the menu as "flaky" phyllo, I confirmed with the waitress that it is baked, not microwaved (as is done in many diners but which destroys the phyllo dough). Everyone else's food arrives -- "What did you order?" asks the waitress. Minutes later my plate is presented -- a soggy, lukewarm mess. My guess is they forgot my order and microwaved it. I pointed this out to the waitress and she offered to take it back, but since my fellow diners were already 5 minutes ahead of me, I simply ate what I received. This place used to be amazing but has since died down drastically. I ordered food the other day. They gave me the wrong food - soggy fries when I asked for onion ring. I payed for extras like a pretzel buns and cheese. When they called to tell me that they didn't have the bus and would change the order, they didn't. I got charged 5 dollars extra for food I didn't receive. The food arrives cold. When I asked to speak with the the manager they passed the the phone off twice to someone who could barely speak English. They said they would give me a 10 dollar credit on grub hub and never followed through. For years I would go once or twice a month. This is the last time I'm going. This place garbage. The delivery driver copped an attitude with me once i called to complain. They did nothing to correct the problem the had caused. This place is a joke and does not deserve to be called a business. Haven't been here in a while, maybe 3 years. Now I remember why. The food is okay and is passable for diner. No issue with the food. The service was nothing special. After my server dropped off my food, I didn't see her again. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue. Except this time I wanted to let someone know about the ants crawling out of the wall and onto the table. I managed to get the owners attention and he came over and looked at them and said it was odd. Yeah, I brought my own ants with me to try and get a free cup of coffee. I stopped eating and went up front to pay. I managed to get my bill from the server and went over to pay. The owner was at the register. I paid my check and left. I didn't expect to get a discount due to the ants and I was not disappointed. read more

I have never once had a bad experience here and I've been going to the Big L for almost eight years. I still remember going there as soon as midnight hit on my sixteenth birthday to celebrate with my friends. And we had gone there so often after nights spent dancing at Nocturne that the staff knew me and my friends well enough to celebrate with us. It's just a cool feeling being "a regular." I've never had to complain about the food; most of the time, if something was wrong, my waiter/waitress would send it back before it even got to my table. And my food has always come out hot and delicious. Llanerch has very accommodating kitchen staff that make your meal to YOUR specifications. Seriously. I don't think I've ever heard "We can't do that" from them once and I've been known to "be picky." They cycle through waiters and waitresses like you would not believe, so try not to get too attached to any one person. However, it's hard not to when the staff is so likable. Some of my most memorable nights at Llanerch were made so by the friendly and conscientious staff. The service is prompt most of the time, but when they get jammed up (like Sunday mornings) sometimes you have a bit of a wait between when your drink order is taken and when your food order is taken. I can say honestly that if you're expecting gastronomic feats of deliciousness, you're going to the wrong place. Llanerch, however awesome I believe the food to be when I'm ravenous and local, is a greasy spoon. What you see is what you get. Their desserts, however, are always on point. I always suggest that people get the chocolate mousse cheesecake dome; I am convinced this thing is made of happiness and rainbows. Seriously. Go get it right now. Other than the drunks being drunks and the parking lot being too small and the bathrooms being shady at best, Llanerch is a great place to go whether you're by yourself or with a huge group of friends. I rate Llanerch at four stars due to the caring staff, their prompt and accommodating service, and because there is never a dull moment at the Big L. read more

Decent food as far as diners go. The main problem with this place is they seem to get very easily overwhelmed if it is the least bit busy. When we went today, very slow to take our order, and half our party got their food 20 minutes before the rest of us. Waiter threw the kitchen under the bus for it. Either way, totally unacceptable. Have had other (similar) problems when also busy. Food was good, though. But with all the other diners in the area, probably not worth going back anymore. The last time that I had patronized this local establishment was at around 3:00am after a long night of soda drinking and polka dancing. I had come in with a few folks and we ordered your basic breakfast fare, with one exception, I did not want my Sh$t on a Shingle, I wanted the toast off to the side. So as the waitress came back to the table, I had noticed that the cream chipped beef was as i had asked it not to be....on the shingle. So, I politely asked the waitress to fix this dilemma that was served to me. She looked at me, cracked her neck with a quick jerk to the left, took my dish and sprinted back into the kitchen. Moments later, I heard the noise of what sounded like a plate being hurled and hitting a wall and then the floor. This noise was followed by a profanity laced rant by my waitress to what could only be a cook in the back. The cook then retaliated with a rant of his own. This went on for several minutes. There was a short lull in the action before the waitress and cook spilled out of the kitchen and rolling around the floor fist fighting. The waitress took some shots, but was able to manage mounting on top of the cook and planting about 6 to 7 direct shots to his face, leaving him unconscious and bloodied on the diner floor. Following this display of dominance, the waitress walked back into the kitchen, rang the bell and said, "ORDER UP!". She then walked out from behind the window, out the kitchen doors with my order as I had requested, said, "sorry for the delay", swooped her hair over her ear and went on with her shift, stepping over the unconscious cook. As I finished my meal, I asked for the check. I decided on tipping at 40% and leaving my phone number on a napkin by the tip, as this woman proved she'd do anything to make me happy. We have been married for 4 months today. read more

This place can't even make eggs and home fries correctly, they were so soggy and greasy they were inedible, tastes like they boil the potatoes, saturate them in oil, and attempt to brown them real quick, they were the blandest mushiest nastiest home fries I ever had! The eggs were just as greasy and soggy and half cooked! The bacon was not crisp or hot, it like it had been sitting in a bin full of grease all morning after being pre cooked. While they have a large menu which is nice, the delivery service is horrible. The first time we ordered from them they were prompt and fairly nice. However the last three times we have ordered from them they have screwed up our order, returned and still screwed up the order after we told them it was screwed up, argued with us over the cost, and at one point tried to extort money from us claiming we were "out of range" and that they wanted more money, despite ordering from them numerous times in the past and being literally 5 minutes drive away. Horrible. Once I reminded the waitress that the kid's meal comes with jello, she went back to get some. They didn't have any, so they suggested rice pudding. I said sure, and they gave my daughter a huge bowl of rice pudding. Not sure how many bites she ate before telling me it tastes lemony. I took a bite and turns out it's a tub full of way off, sour, disgusting old rice pudding. I told the waitress and she just brought out some am-I-just-being-paranoid-now-or-has-this-also-gone-bad-cuz-it-tastes-sort-nasty-too ice cream. No apology or dollar off or anything. Went there after church on Saturday, not having seen the movie, just was going to a place close to my church in Havertown. The place was horrible. I will never go there again even though it was convenient. I asked for eggs over medium and not only was the yolks runny the whites were runny. I ordered scrapple and it did not come out with the eggs. Since the server never checked back with me I had to ask for it myself later. The pancakes looked inedible so I did not even try them especially since they did not have real maple syrup but some kind of Smucker's breakfast syrup which is nothing but corn syrup. Service was slow and never checked back. The girl at the register had enough sense then to not ask me how things were. I guess they got tired of hearing "bad" as an answer so they no longer ask. read more

I just started going back to the Llanerch diner since it has been under the new owners....well....I guess they've been the owners for about two years now... All I have to say is WOW....the place looks great... I was in there with my husband about two weeks ago and I had the nicest waitress I think I have ever had in my life....Stefanie...she drew a pumpkin on the back of our check after serving my husband and I our dinners...(he had the stuffed shrimp and I had a turkey dinner)...it was DELIIOUS...the portions were huge and I still can't get over the service....remarkable! I will definatley be returning now that the place looks decent and the food is really fantastic....and how could I forget our waitress! I grew up in Havertown and always thought that the food at the Llanerch Diner was always just your generic diner food, but this past week I was proven wrong. There was only 2 waitresses to cover 5 tables between them, but somehow my waitress seemed to find herself overwhelmed handling two tables. It took her 15 minutes to come over to even get my drink order. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan Dinner with a side of broccoli and mashed potatoes with gravy. Despite asking my waitress 3 times for the cup of soup that came with my meal, she never brought out the soup. After waiting 25 minutes after initially ordering my meal, my chicken parm came out burnt and dried out to a crisp. I was struggling to cut the chicken with the steak knife I was given. My waitress passed by 3 times and never stopped by the table despite my attempts at calling her over. I had to walk over to her reading a newspaper at the diner counter and ask her if I could have another chicken parm cooked because the chicken I was served was more like chicken jerky than a chicken parm. She took my plate back to the kitchen and brought out a new chicken parm. In that time, I ate my terribly overcooked and unseasoned broccoli and couldn't touch the mashed potatoes because the gravy had some sort of black chunks that clearly didn't belong. The chicken parm wasn't dried out or burnt this time, but it lacked any flavor whatsoever. The sauce was watery and just tasted like someone took tomato paste and mixed a bunch of water to make a sauce. Already an hour and 15 minutes into my meal, I gave up on eating my meal and I left hungry. I know I will never be a patron of this diner ever again when there are so many other dining options in the Havertown/Upper Darby area. read more

Compared to all the diners I've visited in unassuming neighborhoods, Llanerch has, by far, the best pancakes I've tasted. We're talking about quality more akin to the snootier, more discriminating level of cafes here. I thought the other Yelpers were speaking from a native bias favoring their local hotspot due to the generous portions, but the first bite of my blueberry pancakes made me throw all those presumptions to the wind. Fluffy goodness held blueberries that oozed just the right amount of squish and firm so that bread and berry delivered harmonious, subtle amounts of sweetish comfort. The whipped, super spreadable butter made up for the prepackaged syrup. In between bites, my hands and mouth were kept busy with taking sips from the delightfully weighty Llanerch-branded coffee mug. There is something very soothing about a hot cup of very average joe in an old-fashioned ceramic cup. French toast doesn't look as impressive in size or flavor as the 3 giant pancakes, especially since the fruit comes on top. Then again, the other Yelpers have praised them along with the pancakes so I won't be a cover judger if I go back. read more

A few weeks ago, I thought it would be fun to take my mom around the Upper Darby, Pa area to see where the movie 'Silver Linings Playbook' starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence was filmed. It's pretty easy to find the diner and we arrived early. Lucky for us, the hostess led us right to the booth where the movie was shot and I sat where Bradley did and my mom where Jennifer sat. There is a plaque on the wall about the movie. That was neat. I wanted a meatless meal because it was Friday. I should add that they had lovely examples of three main fish meals on display in the lobby-covered with plastic wrap. I decided to go with the asparagus and Swiss cheese omelet and my Mom went for a pork chop meal. She got a nice salad first, but said her pork chop, though nicely brown, was a little tough. Personally I don't hardly ever order chops as I have trouble cooking them myself. The other food was fair for her as she said the mashed potatoes could have creamier. The menu had the typical diner fare from a choice of breakfast food to various platters. Mom was looking for steak, but didn't see it on the menu other than sliced sirloin or something like that. They sell mugs and t-shirts with the name of the movie on them...white on black. The day we were there, they had no mugs and only a few t-shirts. I bought one that was too small just to have it , But I may exchange it soon. The prices for the souvenirs were fairly priced. The wait staff wore the shirts too. If you like diner food, go ahead and stop in. The prices aren't bad...$10 or so each for a meal. read more

I haven't been here in a bit, but we stopped by on a Friday night around 6PM to have dinner with my wife, as I'm a big fan of breakfast and usually the food is great here. I'm not sure what's happened to this place, but disappointed doesn't even scratch the surface. It was not busy at all, and that should have been my warning. I ordered eggs over easy with bacon, home fries, and toast. The potatoes were extremely dry and hard, like they had been sitting on the grill since breakfast. My eggs were also undercooked, although I get sometimes that happens with over easy eggs. My wife got a grilled cheese with french fries. She had two different types of french fries mixed together, and it was apparent that one of them had been left overs from a previous order because they were dry and stale. Our server was completely uninterested in actually serving us. She brought the food promptly, but when setting the plates down the pickle on my wife's plate slipped off and into her lap. She apologized but didn't ask, nor make any effort to replace the pickle. The server came by once and asked if we needed anything else, which we didn't. When we were done eating (the potatoes were still on my plate) she asked if we needed anything else again, when we responded no she quickly got us our bill and left. It seems like this place stopped offering good service and food and decided to ride the wave of having a movie film one scene in their diner. All the servers who were standing around chatting and doing nothing while we ate (which almost made me uncomfortable like they were watching us eat) were wearing shirts advertising the movie. It was two years ago and it's no longer a claim to fame! Start serving your customers and hire a cook that cares! Again, I've eaten here in the past and never had any issues. It just seems like the owners stopped caring when this movie was filmed and is just trying to stay relevant instead of driving great food and service as their staple. Disappointed. read more

I wish there was a star lower than 1. The only item that wasn't dreadful was the cole slaw. My burger was supposed to be medium well but was dry and well over well done. The fries were soggy and nasty, and tasted way worse than frozen fries. They forgot the onion rings and when I reminded them they brought the soggy onion rings in a bowl of oil. My moms sandwich had MOLDY BREAD! It's was also fried (greasy and soggy as well) but the menu said that it was grilled! We sat in the seat from the movie and it was extremely uncomfortable. The owner is EXTREMELY rude, he skipped over us while we were waiting in the lobby, and then made it seem like our fault. Once we were seated, our waitress was very nice, but they are just so distracted and have too many responsibilities. They clearly need to hire more help. Once our food came, it was more disappointment. My omlette was watery, and the hashbrowns were dry. My boyfriend's french toast was barely cooked. It was cool to see the diner because it was in Silver Linings Playbook, but I would never tell anyone it's worth it to eat here. I live right down the street and I can tell you that there will be issues occasionally, however, the food is decent, and won't break the bank. A lot of the servers are overworked, so I've been told, so I'd definitely take that into consideration. I come here late at night all the time, after a night out it's a great place for a quick bite. I was in here at 1 AM after Christmas day and had a great server, cool guy, and some decent grub. Don't knock the Big L, but there are clearly some management issues. I'd highly recommend a late night food session here at the Llanerch. read more

After tip toeing around it we went to the cashier to tell her what was out there. She looked at us like we were crazy but went into the kitchen to say something to someone.
