Unfortunately, I was referred to this repair shop from a coworker. I was very disappointed as they held my car for over a month to get a part. The price they quoted me was for a new part; but they kept ordering a used part and trying to use it in my car and when it was all done, they finally ordered a new part from the dealer and then wanted to charge me an extra $200. Because they claim they lost business on getting the other parts. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Just left from my oil change and inspection. I supplied my own oil and filter so they charged $20 for the labor (a bit pricier than my usual $15 in LI but, they took me right away). It's a pretty cold Friday morning so I'm not sure if they just weren't super busy but, they took me right away and I was done with both things in less than an hour. Only negative criticism is that it's a cash business so if your vehicle expenses are for business, cant use business credit card for anything. Not the end of the world and probably doesn't affect most people. I appreciate the kind but quick service. read more

I had a tire / air issue with my car. All I needed to do was to reset the computer. (Long story) I went to a crappy shop on Court Street, where they charged me $5 for checking the air. After the issue was not resolved came here, they immediately checked the sensor, smiled and stated "no fee, but we like iced coffee for your next trip". DONE. They also saw me on the same day. Alright, it pains me to write this review because I too want to keep this place a secret. I've had a car for over a decade. This is the first honest mechanic I have found. There's no need to shop around cuz you know even if you find something cheaper, it won't be THAT much cheaper. Plus these guys are experts. I've been to so many places where they really didn't know what they were doing and charged you a "diagnostic fee" just to figure out what was wrong, even if they couldn't figure it out! If doctors knew bodies like these guys know cars, there would never be a malpractice suit, ever. Most recently, my A/C stopped working cuz there was no power going to my cold air making thing (I'm not a car guy.) They checked every single fuse to see which one was out, they went online and printed out fuse diagrams for my car and finally after an hour, with 4 guys working on it at once, they found the problem fuse and replaced it with a temporary fuse from another car and didn't even charge me! They're ordering me an original computer safe fuse for my car now but this is why I keep going back here. I just hope they stay open forever. The owner Mr. Li really knows how to keep a customer loyal. This place is more crowded than an elite event with free lobster on weekends so try to go on a weekday if you can. I went to LLL on the recommendation of a friend and am I ever glad!!! A good mechanic is hard to find. While the communications is brusque not very chatty and to say the least gruff and hurried the work I have had done here: an axle replaced (at a 200 dollars saving from the lowest estimate of another garage); and two oil changes..... has been faultless and efficient. There is that great coffee shop: the Tea Room to go hang out in while I wait for my work to be done. I have not looked back and will recommend LLL to everyone. I come in from Manhattan over the bridge past my old mechanics who are good and kind and gracious but just a bit over priced; past a few charlatans that I luckly didn't lose much money over to get the peace of mind good mechanics bring. read more

I've had three cars in NYC over the past 20 years, and based on where I've lived at the time, three different mechanics. When I bought my current car, I went to LLL on the recommendation of several people who have lived in Gowanus their whole lives. I've now been there five times for everything from an oil change to needing my brakes replaced. Finding a good mechanic in New York is like finding a good contractor -- highly unlikely. LLL is the best. I drive up without an appointment and they take my car. Then they call me a few minutes later to say it's ready (the longest wait was a couple of hours because they had to run out and get a part). The price is always shocking...ly affordable!! They don't overcharge for parts like everyone else and they're quick -- which is likely where other mechanics stick you with a heart-stopping labor bill. Who knew that it doesn't actually take 3.5 hours to change rear brakes??? I love these guys. I trust them completely and appreciate that they'll tell me what I DON'T need to do but also always give my car a quick once-over to see if there's something else I need to have fixed or think about for next time. Taught I was going to pay an arm and a leg to fix the brakes on my truck, and I went to Mr. Lee. I wish I knew him before.

I really thought of keeping this one to myself because they are so damned busy but I love these guys and they treat me like a rockstar when I go in there to have any work done. They always diagnose the problem accurately and they NEVER charge you for gratuitous work. They don't have the time for gratuitous work. You can always have the i'm-broke-what-is-the cheapest-solution? conversation with them. The guys are so honest and quick. I don't remember ever having to wait more than a couple of hours for a new muffler, a new front axle, etc. They have a buddhist shrine in their shop with freshly rotting oranges and fake incense. I just trust them...but for the fake incense. They don't seem to speak much English but they get their points across flawlessly and understand every word you say. They work on my mom's corrolla/prism and my geo metro and worked on my maxima. They aren't tragedians and they don't treat women any differently than they do men, from what I've seen. There are about six mechanics, including Mr. Lee, the owner. I kind of think the manager, maybe Mr. Lee's son?, is slightly attractive in a Buddha-meets-Lemmy kind of way. Their prices are completely and utterly fair. I never feel overcharged. Sometimes I curse my former mechanics when Mr. Lee tells me what the price really is for a certain service. They don't charge you much if anything to diagnose the problem. They do everything (even body work, but I have my great body guy, Ivan, from Blue Star Brothers (see review), in Greenpoint. This is mecca; people travel from all over Brooklyn to have their cars serviced here. They work on everything, from pimped out Navigators (eeeeeewwww) to sorry-about-your-penis European sportscars, to i-love-my-subaru-because-i'm-just-that-kind-of-smug-breeder-type-and-volvos-are-too-sexy-for-me-now-and-won't-match-my-crocs-of-shit-and i don't-really-care-about-my-fuel-consumption-but-i-want-to-look-like-i-do. While you get your car repaired, hop over to Root Hill (two blocks away), read the NYT for free, and have a slightly burnt but robust Americano and a tuna melt or just sit in the shop and get high, inhaling the myriad toxins. Oh, one more thing: here's the clincher: the people who recommended them to me were made wiseguys from the Gowanus. Mr. Lee would be swimming with the three-eyed fishes and tampons in the Gowanus if he weren't a reliable mechanic! read more

I walked out of work one day to find a lovely New York surprise on my parked car-- a big dent in the right rear fender. After shopping around a few different auto repair shops, I found Sam at Lll auto repairs, who gave me an estimated price 20% less than what two other nearby garages were asking. A few days later, the car was ready for pick-up, and a few things stood out in my mind: first, not only was the body work impeccable, second, they'd cleaned the inside of the car too! Third, I had ended up leaving my car at the shop a day extra, since I was out-of-state at the time and my return flight was cancelled on account of bad weather. Instead of charging me a holding fee for the extra day (something that seems typical among other repair shops I'd spoken with), the Lll shop guys were totally accomodating and understanding. Yes, they might not have the slickest looking shop, and their English might not be the most grammatical-- though there's a young woman (receptionist?) Connie with perfect English who floats around on occasion-- but the quality of their work and service seem pretty flawless to me. This place is a keeper-- I'll probably end up getting my car's regular maintenance done here in the future. read more

I've been going here for a while now and have been working with Lee. I want to start off by saying that Lee is a genuine good honest guy and tries to get save you money. Some say he has no manners, no sense of humor, and no personality, but he's awesome and just have to understand him. He's a no BS straight to work kinda guy that you can trust. My problem is with certain mechanics he has. Sam and Trenton are the best, others not so much. I've taken my car there several times for various repairs and screws were left off, brakes squeal after being done, grommets, parts and covers were not placed back right, or missing completely , things are rattling that weren't making a sound before, I always end up brining it back twice, so I question their quality which is why the two star rating. They seem to do better at replacing common parts, such as alternators, batteries, power steering pumps, inspections, oil change, etc as well as body work which is excellent BTW. Any intricate work that involves electrical or interior repairs, better off taking it to the dealer. read more

I stopped by without an appointment and absolutely distraught that my car had went from driving 40mph to 19mph without warning. The mechanic came to car and diagnosed the problem in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately for me, my transmission was the problem. They don't do transmission work, but they gave me the diagnostic code that the machine gave and referred me to a transmission repair shop. Their prompt attention for my car will definitely make me come back and see them for my next automotive debacle. read more

I upgraded my AAA membership to AAA Plus so that I can get up to 100 miles of towing with no charge. The main reason I did that is because I live in Staten Island and the distance from my house to LLL Auto is about 22 miles. On at least two occasions, I had my car towed to LLL. One time, I had a car towed from New Jersey. There's no other shop I'd rather go to. I have been going to them for about 20 years now. LI, the owner is very trustworthy. I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn and move to Queens 14 years ago when I got married. I still go there even I have to deal with the traffic on LIE and BQE.
