Joke and crew are extremely reasonable and reliable and do great work. I went here based on some research on NextDoor and took a chance after a bad experience with Toyota. Decided to give them a try and I've been bringing my car here ever since! So happy I found this place. I even had an above and beyond experience where my car was in an accident (a NYDOT truck hit my car when parked during ASP). It happened only a block or two from the shop and it was bad enough it needed a tow. I could not move the vehicle out of the street as as the tire was popped. While I was waiting for a tow truck, Mo (who works at South Slope) was parking a vehicle right down the road. He recognized me and my car and offered to change the tire for me and drive it to the shop for the repairs! It was so incredibly nice as I had been sitting there waiting for a couple of hours that morning while the police came and everything. This was not something they needed to do nor did they charge me for that. It was so incredibly nice and neighborly! I will always take my car here and recommend South Slope Auto highly! read more

First rate work at cut rate prices. I brought it in for an inspection, and they pointed out that my brakes were corroded and worn, which explains a lot. More importantly I had dents in two of my doors and they fixed it for way less than the other estimate I got. The only complaint is that they do take their time, so the cost estimates were accurate but it took longer than expected. Also, the voicemail is always full, so you often have to call back later if Joke on the line with someone else. (Not a complaint, just a word of advice) Bottom line: More than happy with the results, would definitely use these guys again. read more

South Slope Auto ... Negligent Attitude First of all this place was once run by another mechanic, a Russian guy named Alex, who was the best mechanic ever. This new ownership happened about seven years ago and consequently I now go about 20 miles out of my way to my new mechanic. I was reminded of why that is just recently. I went to this auto center a few times in the past and had stopped going because when I would bring my car in they would make me wait for hours and see people who arrived after me, kind of ignoring me. This past week I had a brake issue, the brakes acted weird and when I checked under the hood the brake fluid resevoir was almost empty. I filled the reservoir and was advised to quickly bring the car to a garage nearby to find out where the leak is. Seemed pretty easy, they would put the car up on the lift, remove tires, check everything and advise of any issues. Since my mechanic is pretty far I called South Slope. Joke answered and said to bring it in and he would check it, if not that afternoon then the next morning. I had it towed in at 2PM that day. Long story short, the car sat there all night. My friend went by that evening and saw that someone moved it to a street parking place. At about 11:30am the next day I went by the garage thinking it probably had been fixed already and the car had been moved to yet another street parking but hadn't been looked at. As I stood there about 4 guys came in with their cars and the cars were seen as I waited. By 3pm it was evident that my car was not going to be checked so I carefully drove it off considering the brakes are not top shape. Needless to say I'm never returning to this place and if you are a woman and unless you want to be treated like crap you might want to steer clear of it too. read more

I needed a new mechanic; my Ford Escape Hybrid SUV was in need of what I expected to be a LOT of repair. A recommendation from a friend while I was getting my hair cut led me Joke and South Slope Auto Center. Joke is, and is stated in other reviews here, a very nice guy. But I find out he's the same guy who's been working on the vehicles for my courthouse (I had no idea he was the same guy who had been in Dumbo for years.) So now basically having two glowing recommendations, I felt comfortable leaving my SUV. Joke's estimate was very fair. He also sent me photos and videos of my SUV's problems before fixing or doing any additional work. His time estimate was very accurate, and I was able to pick up my car exactly when he said it would be ready. In fact, I needed it because I knew I'd be driving in this year's blizzard. Well, the SUV handled the blizzard just fine. In fact, I haven't had a problem since, and it's been close to 2 months since the repairs. My experience is that Joke is a rock solid mechanic who quotes a fair price and delivers what he says he will. Bonus: that part of 3rd Avenue does have a few places to eat or explore if you have the option to wait for work to be done. read more
