Was a loyal customer. Took about 3 years to get a call back. Our Benz finally got fixed but there was so much other damage from sitting on his lot. I've included the two worst ones in photos but this doesn't include all the weather damage from it being left in the weather 3 plus years. Zero accountability and Lloyd acted like we were assholes for mentioning it. All we got were lame excuses for the work not getting done ( "after this big diesel blah blah blah ") I guess our money is no good? It wasn't cheap. Go see Larry at L&L or Whitlock in Dripping. Had my Chevrolet pickup repaired for a failed DOD lifter last spring. Same lifter failed in November. Took it different mechanic this time and was told the majority of the bolts associated with the initial repair, water pump, alternator, valve cover screws, intake bolts, exhaust bolts were left loose and not torqued to specs or at all. With the repair costs as expensive as they are you would think they would have done the repairs with a little quality. I would recommend if you needed quality engine repair work done, not to take it to LLoyds Automotive. Very unhappy with what I thought was a repair done right, boy was I wrong!!!! read more

Your first instinct when dealing with an auto mechanic (and when I say "your", I'm talking about pretty much everyone... except mechanics) is to squint your eyes in a distrusting expression, put one hand securely on your wallet and brace yourself for a soliloquy of bullshit. I can't say that I approached Lloyd's with any less trepidation. But since he came highly recommended by the locals, I cautiously decided to have him provide a second opinion on some repairs I desperately needed on my VW. I probably should have first reviewed Maund VW Service on Burnet, but I'm trying to focus on the positive these days. Maund VW told me that it would be upwards of $2400 to fix the coolant leak in my car's engine. I told them I would think about it. But it came time to have it done and I wanted to make sure they weren't trying to rip me a new one. Lloyd is a kind man who knows cars. He's quite happy to go into great detail about things with you. If fact, each conversation I had with him lasted at least 15 minutes. Lloyd gets 4 stars. Why only four? Because Lloyd had my car for over a week which seemed a bit excessive to me. But he more than redeemed himself, so perhaps he gets that 5th star in Karma. There were actually two problems with my car: a coolant leak which Maund VW claimed was actually 4 different parts to be replaced and a non-functioning air conditioning which was working up until the point that Maund VW tried to suck $2400 out of my wallet. I'm still convinced that they are responsible for the faulty air conditioning. Lloyd fixed the coolant leak on the second (business) day he had the car. The cost for the part (a hose... one hose) and labor came to a little less than $50, including new antifreeze. The air conditioning proved to be a huge mystery for Lloyd and I needed my car back before he was able to solve the problem. With my consent, he replaced one part he thought was the cause of the problem. That part cost me another $125 and didn't resolve things. When Lloyd returned my car, he hadn't charged me for any of the time spent trying to fix the air conditioning. Not even the install of the new part. All told, I spent around $200 and will still need to have the air conditioning fixed. But I am grateful to Lloyd for doing the repair for a fraction of the cost that was quoted to me by the people that I should be able to trust with my VW. I can't guarantee that Lloyd will give you the same concessions if he is struggling with a repair, but I do know that he will be fair and straight with you regarding the work. If you don't mind a short drive southwest of Austin, or if you happen to live out that way, this little shop down the road from The Saltlick is a good alternative to the corporate chains and inflated dealership prices. read more

Outstanding and HONEST service! I brought an older vehicle in for what I thought was a major repair job. I told him what I thought needed to be done, he checked the truck over and made an adjustment charging me very little. I was prepared to shell out a bunch of money and he knew it, instead he did a minor adjustment and charged me accordingly. He is always great to talk to, his staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. Although Lloyds is about 30 miles from where we live they have a customer for life. Maybe it's because of their distance from a large customer base but, whatever the reason, you can trust that they will do excellent work and get your vehicle back on the road as quickly as they can. GREAT experience! My 03 Tacoma had check engine light and was misfiring on one or two cylinders. Took it to Lloyd's and they fixed me up new wires, plugs and coil, very quick service, had it done within 5 hours after I brought it to them. Running great now. I totally relied on the great reviews that I saw on both Yelp and Google to make my decision to take it to Lloyd's. I like being able to find good service, companies, and people online. In the years past I would have had to roll the dice on finding a good mechanic in a new area where I lived, now it is easy to find places like Lloyd's that will be honest, do a good job, and not surprise you at the end with a overpriced final bill. They lifted it onto the rack and he was definitely correct. Plus he gave me a thorough run-down of what needed fixing and for how much. Now, I'm used to shops that tell you (especially if you are a woman), 'you need this' and 'you need that' and 'you just wouldn't be safe without this' and usually it's all BUNK. NOT at Lloyds and not by Austin! This shop stays in business by word of mouth and when you try to find their location, you will KNOW that's the TRUTH. Lloyd and his crew are the best around. Lloyd many many years ago I broke the key off in my ignition. I was new to the Hill Country, looked him up and called. He dropped everything and came and met me on the side of the road. Brought a new ignition switch, changed it and on my way. When I asked what I owed him he said. Pay me for the cost of ignition switch. WOW. Labor, nothing he was on his way home. Yes he might have been but he did not have to do this and I was most appreciative. After having a bad experience with another automotive place in Dripping Springs that tried to oversell me on replacing a hub barring, getting an alignment, and brake flush I took my car to Lloyds. Thankfully there are still mechanics out there that give you that small town relational service and don't try and nickel and dime you for estimates and oversell you on things you don't need. I really appreciated Travis who spent time in explaining that IF in fact I needed a hub barring replaced that I wouldn't necessarily need a brake flush or alignment. After his diagnosis he said all I really needed was 4 new tires. He didn't charge me a dime and was very thorough in explaining to me what a hub barring was and how that fits into having possible alignment issues. After receiving 4 new tires, the original issue was gone and it felt like a new car. Bottom line...these guys are honest and very knowledgeable. They did not make a penny off me that day but they have gained a lifetime customer for any future issues! read more

LLoyd's has performed two major repairs on my diesel truck. Both were done so poorly that the repairs affected other parts of the truck and the major repairs plus additional work had to be at another shop. The quality of work is extremely poor. Their poor workmanship has cost over $10,000 to correct somewhere else. Lloyds is the last place I would ever take my vehicles!! read more

Lloyd has been my mechanic for 15 years...and there is a good reason for that. Lloyd provides expert car maintenance, but the devil is in the details and he has that one down pat. It's checking the belts when he does an oil change and letting me know how long I have until I need to change them. It's busting it on a Friday so a single girl with no other transportation isn't stranded all weekend. It's a thousand little things that he does...oh and yeah, he's honest...I'd recommend him highly to anyone, and have many times...Trust me he's worth the drive. read more

Not only do they provide top notch service when necessary, but they have actually provided service to me three times without charge. Really! Two of those times, they came to my home and jump started my car, granted I only live about three miles away, but arrived a heck of a lot quicker that AAA. The third time, I stopped in, panicking at the fearsome display of check engine lights dancing across my dashboard. Upon further inspection, he suggested resetting the panel(Whatever that means). Once reset, he said "Come back if it happens again." Guess what...Never did! As I reached in to nab the Visa...Lloyd once again calls out...."No Charge Today...Just Remember Me Next Time!" Most impressive service I've received from any industry in years. They care about vehicles and customers, that's it. A friend took her car there for maintenance and her husband told her that the brake pads were probably due for a change and to have them do that as well; they took one look and told her that it would be an unnecessary expense as the pads were just fine (apparently her husband is unaware that she likes the gas pedal much more than the brake). That prompted me to take my Ford Explorer there when my radiator started acting up, it was fixed the next day and for over $100 cheaper than I'd estimated. Recently I also took my Chevy Blazer in for some wiring work. As I was checking in I inquired about having a hitch installed as well while they had it, the immediate response was "We can definitely do that but it will be a lot cheaper if you take it to a U-Haul or someplace like that." WHO DOES THAT!?! This business could easily make more money out of each customer but their interest lies in making cars run and giving people nothing but honest, respectful service. Refreshing change to see a business whose first priority isn't profit. I couldn't recommend them enough. read more

I am as distrustful of auto mechanics as it gets. For almost all of my adult life I have been as protective of my wallet as possible before agreeing to have work performed on any of my vehicles. I can't recite how many times I have been told something needed to be done when it didn't or when a problem could have been left alone for years yet told it needed to be done immediately. I started using Lloyd back in 2006 (I think), and would never take my vehicles anywhere else unless they were under warranty at the dealership. He is truly honest, provides a clear explanation of the problem with fix options, and never overcharges. In fact, I can't think of one time when I was quoted a cost higher than I anticipated. Lloyd's business has obviously flourished over the years, and I often worry his customer service and/or pricing will begin to take a hit because of it. So far, I haven't seen that happen. I think he knows what brings customers back and sticks to it. Lloyd used to be the front man handling customers that come in when he first opened, but I think he has gone back to doing what he does best which is being a mechanic. Lloyd's front man, Travis, is very busy handling the phone, walk-in customers, ordering parts, and basically managing the business end for Lloyd. He does a good job for Lloyd and has been there for years. I do not hesitate recommending Lloyd's Automotive to anyone who asks. No need to proceed with caution here. I trust this mechanic, and I have not had a reason to doubt the work Lloyd has performed for me. This includes everything from small maintenance work up to a top end engine rebuild performed in 2013. read more
