Outstanding! We've been waiting for this place to open... so happy that they are. Clean, bright and well taken care of. Staff was great. Our server, Kari was so friendly and enjoyable. Food was delicious. Ordered a side of hush puppies- a nice sized order and they were loved by all at the table. Crispy outside- nicely seasoned in. I live a good hush puppy! Fried ribs were tasty- and different. Fall off the bone meat- with a little crispness on outside. loved both the bbq and mustard sauce (asked to have both...) The chicken wraps came in 2 tacos- with a nice piece of chicken on each- curry dressed with carrots and jicama.. refreshing and filling. The forager salad was delicious as well. A nice piece of salmon - cooked to order. Loved the beets, pistachios, feta and greens... I added 3 grilled shrimp as well...nice pieces grilled- tasty. They have a happy hour so come in and enjoy your time. Patio is well protected if there is a chill or too much sun- they move the shades as needed and have warmers as well. Can't wait to go back.

Great new option on Longboat Key! Lo' Key presents great food at a great price (by LBK standards). Menu was a nice mix of "normal" food options, vacationer-friendly seafood, and spectacularly executed unique items (baby Artichokes burrata were amazing). Menu would allow you to bring an unadventurous Midwestern relative and a foodie and keep everyone happy! We got fresh oysters, the poke tower, artichokes & burrata, corn riblets (elote), and shrimp & grits. All portioned and flavored well. Indoor, outdoor, and bar seating plus a nice covered patio give lots of seating options. Ambience is truly low-key, which is a nice alternative to some stodgier places on LBK. Service was on the slow side (and my wife's first time it was SLOW), but the place is still new and makes up for it with great food. $6-7 draft beers, good mixed drinks and an all-day Sunday happy hour make this a place we'll definitely return to.

Do not walk, you need to run to this establishment. This is a new restaurant to the island, opening in January (so we were told by the server). We come to Longboat Key every year and were excited about a new restaurant. First, if you aren't looking for it you are going to miss it! It is very non descript and easy to pass. Also, it is a very casual setting and absolutely spotless. It is not pretentious or bougie. But. The. Food. We had to go a few times before I could justify a five star review. Our servers were amazing and super helpful. But if you ask for recommendations they will provide so many that you can't decide, but no worries. You can't go wrong here. Our first visit we order the blackened shrimp tacos and the grouper tacos. When the server said the food would show up fast ahead she was not kidding! The food was hot and looked amazing! The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. They were plump and firm. It was paired with a delicious jalapeño crème sauce that had just a hint of kick. The grouper tacos were much the same: nice big chunks of fish so you got a nice hearty meal. The sides were just as delicious as the main course. I had the cucumber and tomato salad. It had a bright flavorful vinaigrette and it tasted liked the veggies had been picked that day. The collard greens were to die for. Cooked to perfect! Iykyk. On our second visit we shared the shrimp and grits. We wanted to lick the plate. So much flavor! Again, nice big shrimp full of flavor! But let's talk about the grits. Pimento cheese grits. And they must have been whipped because they were so light and fluffy. My new favorite grit combo. We are going back again for dessert before we go home! Can't wait to try the rum cake!

    vegan plantain curry

we were searching for some nearby vegan options and luckily there were 2 items marked as vegan on the menu that sounded good to us. i was thinking about getting the far east veggie but ended up straying from my vegan diet and ordered the forager with no feta. the salmon on the forager wasn't seasoned at all and the whole dish desperately needed salt. the house vinaigrette looked appealing but lacked flavor and the bed of greens was sparse. it was no where near worth $28. my partner got the vegan plantain curry which was the better of the two dishes. the plantains and white beans were an interesting twist on a curry. the plantains were a delicious addition. it wasn't served with a grain of any sort like rice, so it wasn't very filling. to drink i enjoyed the coconut cooler - coconut water, cream of coconut, lemon juice and pineapple puree. it was a nice balance of creamy, sweet, and citrusy.

Located between the edge of where the resort pool ends and where the beach begins. It's sits on the 2nd floor past Riva as you head towards the beach. The lazy river is right below Oshen. We stopped by here after breakfast at Riva on our first day just to check out the stunning space. They open daily at 4-10pm so it was closed when we stopped by but still open where you can check it out in the open space. There's a bar in the middle and lounging seats and small tables surrounding the bar. We decided to sit at the edge with the perfect spot of the beach. The perfect spot to watch the sun set. We sat and chilled for a bit enjoying the view and amazing breeze. Came back for dinner around 6:30pm. Wanted to secure a nice spot to watch the sunset. Many of the lounge seats were taken as these are mainly first come, first serve. Then they start putting "reserve" signs on the tables. We opted for a nice spot at the bar overlooking the beach. Not perfect but good enough in the shade with a lovely breeze. Our bartender was Liam and he was very hospitable. He welcomed us and was attentive the entire duration of our dining experience. Thanks Liam for the awesome service. Here is everything we ordered: * Borodino Fizz $23 * G Sake Gek Black Gold $11 * Tuna Ceviche $25 * Chicken Teriyaki Bowl $25 * Wagyu Lomo Saltado $36 * Hamachi A La Brasa $28 We ordered cocktails to start. Hubby had sake and I got something different, Borodino Fizz. My drink was "a bold and bubbly mix of peppercorn-infused Cor Cor Japanese Red Label rum, coconut shrub, fresh lime, and spicy ginger beer. Tropical heat with a zesty kick." Surprisingly good. Not what I usually drink but I liked it. Food was exquisite and presentation for everything was on point. I asked for Sriracha and Liam introduced us to their homemade Kimchi Sriracha. Oh em gee!!! So delish. They basically mix kimchi in Sriracha and it was amazing. I'm totally making this at home. Ha. TUNA CEVICHE: nikkei leche de tigre, cilantro, onion, crispy corn, quinoa furikake, shrimp cracker. Flavors were great but not a ton of food. Loved the crispy corn, quinoa furikake and eating the tuna on the shrimp crackers. WAGYU LOMO SALTADO: wagyu striploin A5, crab salad, avocado, lomo saltado sauce, crispy sweet potato. Damn good!!! Lots of good texture with the crispy toppings, don't even know what it was. Haha. Great combo of flavors! CHICKEN TERIYAKI BOWL: edamame, seaweed tempura, sesame seeds, sushi rice, quinoa furikake, daikon, carrot. We don't usually order chicken at a Japanese restaurant but this seemed the heartiest out of everything we ordered. It was a good portion and the sushi rice with the chicken, edamame, veggie shavings and white corn was just enough. HAMACHI A LA BRASA: torched hamachi, anticucho sauce, baby gem, snow crab, chimichurri, garlic, scallion. We were still a bit hungry after eating the other 3 items so decided to order something else. We only had breakfast so we were hungry. The hamachi had so much flavor and hit the spot. Really tasty. All in all, Oshen is a wonderful dining experience between the incredible views, cocktails and fresh sushi options. Service is amazing, as only expected with the whole St Regis luxury level of service. Beautiful space with good eats! Go see Liam and tell him we sent you.

The setting, to its credit, is spectacular. The sunset view alone makes the visit feel special; there are few spots that can compete with that kind of atmosphere. Drink-wise, the cocktails are intense--basically rocket fuel--and priced accordingly. If you're looking for something a bit gentler, the mocktails are surprisingly good and feel more thoughtfully balanced. I haven't tried the food myself, but I've consistently heard positive things, which makes me curious to come back. Where Oshen really struggles is service. It's spotty at best, and at worst... just slow. Getting your first drink usually happens in a reasonable amount of time, but ordering a second round or even just flagging down the check can take much longer than it should. This hasn't been a one-off issue either--it's been very consistent across visits.

We got there a little early for our reservation and they were immediately ready to seat us. They even made an effort to place us near the fish tank so our toddler could watch the fish during dinner, which I really appreciated. The restaurant itself felt more intimate than I expected. I've seen reviews mention the awkward layout, but I actually thought it gave the space a cozy feel. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't fully live up to the prices. Our waiter was kind, but we barely saw him during the meal and waited quite a while for drink refills. I'd also mentioned in the reservation notes that it was my husband's birthday dinner and our first time visiting, but neither was acknowledged during dinner. Normally that wouldn't bother me much, but with the pricing and the restaurant's elevated presentation - polished uniforms, fresh seafood options, extensive wine menu - it felt like there should've been a little more attention to the overall experience. My husband did absolutely love the coleslaw that came with his fish and chips, especially the pineapple in it, which he'd never tried before. I ordered the grouper tacos and thought they were okay, but not especially satisfying. They came with a salad, and I found myself wishing I could've swapped it for fries or a heartier side. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing or misunderstood the menu options. Most of the crowd during our visit seemed older, and the restaurant definitely feels geared toward that demographic. While I don't think we'd personally rush back, I'm still glad we gave it a try. I also thought it was a nice touch that they offer a 15% discount to the ice cream shop next door if you bring your receipt.

As we wandered about looking for someplace for dinner (the place we had intended for the evening was maxed out with one large party, so needed to look elsewhere) realized we just happened upon a place we had driven by a couple of times called "The Doctors Office". They had a beautiful garden area outside where people were dining, but it was a pretty warm night, so decided to check out the inside - where we found a really cool space and were greeted by the host asking: "Do you have an appointment?" (Get it? Doctors office...reservations...appointment!? Too cute a play on the doctor's office thing! : ) Well, we did NOT have said appointment (and the main dining area was quite full!) but thankfully there was one table remaining in the back lounge area, which was through a hidden door made to look like a bookshelf! This area also had its own cool vibe. Waiter (Matt) immediately placed two little medicine cups in front of us - to sample their cherry rum punch. Delish. I ordered a cocktail (cannot recall the name but along the lines of a manhattan) while my DH stayed with red wine (boooooo-ring! ; ) We shared the smoked salmon appetizer (super yummo!) Then on to dinner. OK, we're talking seafood country here! But, over the course of the several days we've been here, I ordered seafood every single time. I adore seafood but was ready for something else. So, was being realistic when I ordered something on the beef realm. Got the short rib dish and it did not disappoint. It was excellent. Maybe not the "easily shredded with a fork" ones I have had elsewhere, but certainly super tasty and not at all tough or fatty. DH got the shrimp-lobster tacos and said they were incredible! No leftovers coming home with this guy! Our waiter, Matt, was new to this establishment (but not waitering) and was attentive and personable - above and beyond. Would highly recommend. No, you're not going to get any water views (this place is sort of hidden away in an obscure spot behind a plaza) but well worth the visit!

I feel like the drinks used to be a lot more creative from what I saw on their socials and from what my friend said who went back in the day it used to be more of a speakeasy elevated cocktail vibe versus a tiki/dive bar vibe. We had to ask for the chips that are supposed to be given complimentary and then we ordered bread and soup which literally took an unnecessary like 30 mins or more to come out as we watched the people on both sides of us get their full meals before us when we got items that just had to be reheated. The tomato soup was very good once it finally came out, the rolls were good but nothing as great as the hype in my opinion for the menu. The drinks were good but honestly the starter shot given at the bar was my favorite which was a hibiscus Pom margarita which I ended up getting fully as my second drink. Service started out hot but then went downhill but that is unfortunately the standard of when gratuity is already included in a check. Then when it came time to pay it got weird when there was a simple mix up when my friend intentionally overpaid even with gratuity involved in her check and the bartender asked her if she wanted change and she said yes but never brought it back. My friend gave 3 - 20s on a $38 check (gratuity) already in but she wanted to tip a few more dollars because she is a very generous person and then when she asked about her change that's when it got weird and the bartender made it seem like she didn't understand why she wanted change instead of just apologizing for the mistake and they went back and forth for a few minutes with the bartender ending up just giving her the extra $20 back. Just left a weird taste in our mouths for the experience when I feel like any bartender would understand what she wanted to do with giving extra larger bills to split especially when she said she wanted change and it was a massive overpayment or if the thought there was a very generous tip like 30% would make sure with guest that's what they want and show appreciation if that were the case. It was just weird how it all was handled. The decor was on point for Christmas and the vibe was very casual but oldie vibes which makes sense for it being in Anna Maria island.
