Vail is a small skiing town in Colorado just about 100 miles east of Denver. Make sure you park in the parking garage just past the two "roundabouts" from the off ramp(there's absolutely NO parking near Loaded Joes). I wanted to stop somewhere that wasn't a McDonald's or Taco Bell, AND also had good coffee. After an hour of driving, "Loaded Joes" was the spot we picked and I am quite satisfied with our decision. It's located in a small room down a slightly lower level on Bridge St. There's was a lovely young woman(working completely solo!) taking orders and making breakfast burritos & sandwiches. I ordered a drip French Roast and was very well pleased on how fresh the coffee tasted. I also ordered a "Loaded Burrito" and my wife a poppyseed bagel with peanut butter. The food & coffee(not to mention the great attitude of the barista, working totally alone) put me in such great mood that I also paid for a root beer and peanut butter cookie on the way out. I am personally not a fan of this place, but my boyfriend really liked it. We came here for breakfast and I got the breakfast burrito with a few substitutions, and it was very mediocre. They don't have avocado so I got guacamole which was a mistake, it's really just not the same. Then I got the strawberry banana smoothie which honestly just tasted like nesquick strawberry milk. I was not impressed and wouldn't come back. However, the waitstaff was very friendly. We brought it back after walking out and politely approached the man at the counter and said the smoothie wasn't great could we please get a different one. Another guy came over and very aggressively told us it's exactly how a healthy smoothie tastes. It was a bummer of an encounter and we didn't enjoy it. I got a hot chocolate using a coupon, and I wanted to upgrade the small to a large. I was about to get charged $2.95 even though the difference was $1.50 (small is $3, large is $4.50). I questioned this, and they told me their system couldn't just charge for the upgrade. If that's the case, why was my card taken and a random amount charged? So I said I'll just take the small, and then the person swiped my card for $3.25, which was very strange. I looked at him very oddly, and then he realized he wasn't supposed to charge me and gave me cash for the amount he swiped. He gave me $3. $3, not $3.25 that he swiped. It's only a quarter, but what kind of business makes a mistake (or two, rather) and then takes their customers' money? Dishonest twice in a very short amount of time, and also the hot chocolate wasn't good at all. There was a layer of powder at the bottom and the hot chocolate was very sugary. Need a pick me up after or before the slopes? Look down for Loaded Joe's. No literally, look down... it's in the basement of a building. Inside the small space are about 4 bar stool seats and a little bit of area to stand. Look for the coffee menu on the support pole in the middle of the room instead of on the wall behind the counter. I totally missed it! Otherwise I may have ordered something other than chai latte. But it was a happy mistake, because that chai was decent. Plus, they made it with almond milk (take that Starbucks!). Can't speak for any food other than the croissant I ordered. It was as expected. Price is what you expect in Vail. I wasn't surprised. Ain't like your gonna order off the dollar menu here. Warning: Bathroom is teeeeeeny tiny. If you have snow gear on, you will be doing an interesting shimmy shimmy shake to hit the porcelain throne. read more

Walked by this place several times without even realizing it since it hides in its little underground corner but once I found it I didn't want to leave it! Snug and mellow with its delicious coffee and full bar! We started with coffee but then switched to harder stuff. We weren't skiing that day so we beat the après rush and got a spot at the little bar. When the skiers showed up for their après ski shots we had already been there for a few hours enjoying the wifi and atmosphere so we cleared out. I would have loved to stay longer or have come back for the late night bingo, but sadly had to go pack up. Overall very disappointing! My girls loved the cinnamon rolls but we had the worst breakfast burritos of our life. I ordered the pork, the onions were raw. What an awful, disorganized, mess of a coffee shop. Their website shows that they are open until 2am. The first night I walked by at 7pm and they were closed. So, I called the second night, the recording states open until 2am and then the manager answered and said that they close at 8pm and haven't been open until 2am for 3 1/2 years. I walked in at 6:20p that same night I called and the girl behind the counter starts motioning a cut throat movement and yells "we are closed." I simply said that I had just called 20 minutes ago and was told you were open until 8pm. She (very nastily) said, well, we are short staffed and closed. Some of her wiseguy, hippy friends were sitting at the bar laughing and had wiseass comments. Horrible, very unprofessional, discussing excuse for a Vail business. Should be run out of town.
