Mediocre is about as generous as I can be. The place was very busy and extremely noisy, and the service speed definitely suffered because of it. I had expected something a bit more upscale, but that was not the case. It's essentially a bar with extra dining space, serving what I'd call upscale bar food. I ordered a margherita pizza and received something closer to a basic tomato‑sauce pizza with small amounts of mozzarella and a few basil leaves. Not how a margherita pizza is supposed to be made. A colleague's burger was "okay," nothing more. My daughter's chicken salad looked like bagged lettuce topped with a few prepackaged grilled chicken strips. The fries seemed like standard frozen fries from a supplier. We watched several tables get up and leave after waiting too long for service. We didn't have anywhere to be, so we stuck it out, but the slow pace was noticeable. Overall, I left feeling disappointed--something I've experienced with McMenamins locations before. Great stop for a drink and a bite to eat after the "Weird Al" concert. Wait staff was great and was great to interact with throughout the night. We shared an order of the big island nachos and they just hit the spot, the siracha cheese sauce and huli huli chicken absolutely made these nachos. We also shared an under the tower pizza and the garlic roasted chicken on the pizza absolutely hit the spot. Great meal to follow up a great concert night. read more

Convenient and casually goodbar and grill located on the grounds of McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale (open during months of drier weather). We stopped by for a pre-concert supper this past summer and enjoyed an array of burgers, wraps and even an unexpected Hawaiian-inspired plate with tasty sides. Our server was quirky and on top of it. The patio was super casual and kind of tucked away. Overall, a solid experience. (3.75 stars). read more

I've been to this specific restaurant a number of times, and in general to Mcmenamins all over the state more times than I could count. Mostly because they happen to be in convenient locations, historical buildings, and frequently offer other desirable attributes like near a concert I'm seeing or place I'm staying. Because you definitely don't go to Mcmenamins for the food or service, that's for sure. But this experience was even more disappointing than usual when we were served TOTS FOR CHILDREN (see pic)! 25 tots. Count 'em. For $12.25. That's 50 cents per tot. I'm so sorry, WHAT?! For literally frozen tater tots that are probably $3 for a jumbo bag?! The worst part is that folks around us ordered the same appetizer and appeared to be served a reasonable portion, so I don't know if they just like messing with people for no reason or have extremely dismal quality control but next time I go to a Mcmenamins for a show or any other reason I'll be bringing my own food and sooner eat in my car! If this is the cost and size of an appetizer then I'm guessing an entree isn't even enough to satiate my 5 pound chihuahua, even if I chose to waste probably upwards of $30 on it (just an estimation). There are lots of other nice restaurants in Troutdale area to hit up before a show, any of the restaurants at Edgefield aren't worth your time or money imo. read more

Servers at the Loading Dock Grill were super friendly and service was good. No complaints there whatsoever. The food, however, was truly horrible. I think the menu recently changed, as the menu at our table was still the "old" menu so we had pick something else. Which was no big deal, except the two different burgers we got were mostly just...not good. And the draft beer wasn't cold. The "Drive by Trucker" burger has an ungodly amount of pimiento cheese that tasted like spoiled mayo. The regular cheeseburger was bland, insanely greasy and just tasted "off.". A couple hours later, we both felt queasy and sick. I'd try somewhere else at Edgefield instead. read more

Nothing here that you can't get elsewhere within Edgefield, but that's not the point, is it? The point is that it's a place on the main thoroughfare behind the hotel where you can grab what you want and keep on movin'! If the line isn't long, this is a convenient place to quickly grab a bite and a drink while walking around the grounds, without having to duck into one of the pubs themselves. If there's a line (and there can be one on both sides), you may be in for a bit of a wait. Probably the slowest of the "bars" at Edgefield, despite its apparent convenience. read more

It's always busy here before shows. I feel like they still are understaffed and that causes more delays. While the food IS standard across all properties, it doesn't always have the same quality. Last night my burger was perfect (and I was starving,) and the tots may have been the BEST I've ever had. Crispy, not greasy at all and really well seasoned. Service was okay. I don't ever expect too much at the restaurants Tobe honest. But MAN look at those tots!!! read more

We actually went in June so yes, this is late. We went for my birthday lunch and it was a beautiful warm day and we were seated within a few minutes. Our server was a little on the slow side but we were so busy chatting that we didn't complain. It was just nice to be out during the week instead of work. No complaints and I have been here lots of times over the past 20 years. In fact, I have lots of praise for this buzzing patio restaurant. Tonight we were here before the Michael Franti concert and the patio was pretty full. The host warned us the food may take 45 minutes to arrive and that it might be faster inside the Power Station Pub or The Black Rabbit. We decided to stick to eating outside and risk it. Turns out, the service was brisk, friendly and efficient. Our drinks (the Joe Penny cocktail is a delight) and food arrived quickly, and an hour later we were on the concert lawn. It was a perfect execution of our plan to enjoy Cajun tots and Michael Franti's live music without waiting in line. read more

Loved the patio at this bar! They have a very limited menu outside, which is different from the bar inside. Our server was very nice and the service was a little on the slower side but we didn't mind because we were outside. The burger was fine and the tots were great! I'd definitely just recommend this place for a beer or patio hangout! read more

Typical McMenamins menu, great servers, and a really good variety of beer. I have 2 issues with McMenamins fare, which aren't the fault of Loading Dock and out of their control: 1. They need more options for food sensitivities/preferences. I mentioned this in my review of the Gearhart restaurant. Vegetarian options are decent, but vegan ones are almost nonexistent. It's also hard to be gluten-free, and nearly every item has dairy. (I'm lactose intolerant.) Yeah I can order a sandwich with no cheese, but I'm paying full price for 25% fewer ingredients. 2. They should put calorie information on their menus. My friend looked into Oregon law on this. Places with more than 10 locations, with more than 50% menu overlap, are required to disclose this. Apparently they keep their menu overlap just under 50% to skirt the law. They also say that nutrition info is available, but ask a server for the binder and it's somehow "missing right now." A chain their size could and should do better. read more

I'm providing stars for food and host (i mean I have to provide a star). But the host and food would get 4 stars if the rest of the experience went well, however it was awful. We were there last night 7.30.22 We got seated at an unstable table. We took it upon ourselves to fix it with napkins. And shrugged it off. After being seated for over 15-20 minutes our waitress comes by to check on us. We could see it was busy so we weren't too worried. She takes our drink order and brings them back maybe 15 minutes later. Gets our order. Disappears. But doesn't really disappear. She checked on her other tables numerous times. The one across from us we saw her check on at least 4 times. Another table sat down at least 30 minutes after us (they came in as we got our drinks) and was served right before us. We waited at least an hour for burgers. Again we knew they were busy but unlike our waitresses other tables she didn't come back to check on us. My friends water sat empty for at least 20 minutes before we could flag someone down. It's 90 degree outside. The waitress we flagged down said oh I'll let your waitress know and waltz off and didn't say anything to our waitress for at least 10 minutes. That same waitress came back 15 minutes later to pour water. Mind you we were 12 steps from the water station. In the meantime we flagged a host who graciously brought her water. When that waitress came back my margarita was almost gone. My friends lemon drop was gone she didn't ask if we needed anything else. Our waitress shows up 20 minutes later with our food. FINALLY. At this point I'm upset though- how can you go that long without checking on a table. So I respectfully let her know I was disappointed in her services. Pointing out again empty cups, and my friends empty lemon drop. She said "I'm really sorry about that, we are busy. My coworker said she checked on you about 20 minutes ago and you were fine". No she topped off my water saw my friends had been refilled and didn't even acknowledge the other empty drinks- I explain She said well I'm sorry and walked off. Still not asking if we need more drinks at this point with empty/almost empty drinks remaining on the table. She didn't preemptively bring more water. She didn't come back to see how our meal was or if we needing thing else. We finished our food and she comes about 7 minutes after (yes I was timing at this point). She says, "you guys are good right like you don't need anything, I can just bring you the check" with kind of attitude. I wanted dessert and another drink but she clearly lacked proper customer service skills. I said the check was fine and when she brought it asked for her manager. Her manager just said sorry about that, want me to cash you out? Yep Brings it back and with attitude says I hope you have a better night. The whole time I remained respectful and had tact. But I did let them know their customer service was unacceptable that evening. With that comment I had to bite my tongue because was on the edge of leaving and my frustration was about shine bright like a diamond. To add insult- and this part was out of the restaurant's control- the table that was checked on 4+ times by our waitress alone (not mentioning at least once by a host and once by another waitress) had a patron that was saying loudly oh yeah we know the service wasn't your fault we wouldn't want to blame you you were excellent - to our waitress and looking over at our table. It's easy to feel that way when you received more service than any other table that evening. Maybe had they not been so demanding we would have actually had acceptable service. But the kitchen did mess up one of their meals. They also got gift cards to make up for the issue with tomatoes on a salad. I've been a waitress at a very busy restaurant. I've been a night time wait staff manager. I give a lot of grace to wait staff. I tip 20-25% on most orders when I dine in. This service experience was outright horrendous. The manager deserves to be demoted and someone needs to properly train their staff. When I let the waitress know we were upset- corrective behavior could have helped turn the experience around. Like asking and quickly refilling our drinks. Checking in on us during our meal. Etc... The manager could have saved the restaurant from having a bad review by being sincere with his apology, instead of arrogant. We won't dine there again. And honestly I'm going to call it like I see it- tables with BIPOC diners seemed to get less service. I'm not BIPOC. My friend is. I watched the same thing happen to another table of two with a BIPOC diner. They got up and left. They had the waitress who initially couldn't be bothered to bring my friend a water. read more

The Edgefield is a beautiful place and gorgeous experience. The Loading Dock is... less so. It's a bummer that the only outdoor dining at the venue is so underwhelming, because there really is nothing like enjoying a pint and a bite out on the patio during the summer. The place was quite busy, but not entirely full, on a Tuesday evening. Still, it took our party of four over thirty minutes to get a table, and the joint was either wildly understaffed or the servers had extremely poor time management. I'm betting on the former. Nothing went smoothly. We ordered drinks - two cocktails and a cider, and the cider was forgotten so we had to remind our server about it. The food took a long time to arrive, and all we ordered were burgers. (The menu is quite limited as well - pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches, with a small handful of salads and appetizers, constrained to what can be made on the outdoor grill.) The burgers were mediocre - there was far less patty than bun, and we couldn't taste the bleu cheese on two of the burgers. We also learned that the burgers automatically come medium-well done, and the servers don't even bother asking how you'd like yours cooked. A waste of good hamburger, honestly. The food is also wildly overpriced, as are the drinks. I paid $25, after tip, for a boring burger and 16oz of cider. That's some New Portland prices, alright. As we wrapped up the meal, it got chilly, so we had to ask two different people three times if we could get one of the heat lamps lit, and it still didn't happen until we were about to leave, at which point we said forget it. Then our server messed up our bills. The entire experience was one error after another, while we were left paying through the nose for uninspiring grill fare. Edgefield, come on now. I have been here twice this week, and although the setting is beautiful, the food is below average. The menu is very limited and includes mostly starchy, heavy food. They have a Pub salad which is a few lettuce leaves with a couple of bits of tomato, hardly what I would expect for this nice place with high prices. Pizza is on the menu but each time we were discouraged from ordering it due to the long wait time. Our second visit included a movie, and the theater was fun. I would not choose to have a meal here again. read more

Worst service I have ever experienced at a mcmenamins restaurant. All servers seem to be stoned and disinterested. The order showed for half the table and was wrong and had a hair on it and it took 10 minutes to flag down our server and he just shrugged and said I will get the right one going. I has a sad but two stars is pretty generous for this dining venue. There are choices at Edgefield and some of them are better than others. This one, however, is the only outdoor food venue where you can bring your dog. Thanks for that, I really appreciate being out with my girl. It's not enough for me to urge you to go, unfortunately. It was really crowded and understaffed. Our waiter, while kind and competent, appeared to have half the tables. He was literally running at times. I saw right away there was going to be a lot of time between ordering and eating, so when he (finally) came by to ask us about drinks we went ahead and ordered food at the same time. My partner's ice tea came right out, but my beer took 15 minutes. It was ridiculous. The excuse was that they had to tap a new keg. Hmmmm would have been faster to run over to one of the, I don't know - dozen or so?? other bars on the property and get the beer there. But whatever. The food was really meh. I ordered the garden burger because I don't eat meat, so sure I take what I can get. They make decent burgers here, I'm told. That's what everyone was having. My garden burger tasted like something they keep on hand in the freeze to appease us veggies. Bleck. The tots were okay, the sweet potato fries were okay. I only slightly regret the meal. The menu didn't have very many options. Some salads, a couple sandwiches and burgers, pizza I think? Uninspired. After a hot day at work all I wanted was to sit on a pleasant patio with my friends and our dogs, have a great beer (my beer was great!), relax, have a decent nosh, and unwind. I love Edgefield for exactly those experiences. But when it's crowded that isn't possible at the Loading Dock Grill, and the menu certainly doesn't have anything that made me say "wow", gotta eat that! I really don't like giving out 1-star ratings but I can't help do so after my experience at the Loading Dock Grill yesterday evening. I came with three others to the McMenamins Edgefield hoping for outdoor seating. The menus at The Pub and the Grill looked similar so we chose the grill, but quickly realized the menu was MUCH more limited. We asked if we could get the fish and chips that were served across the way but that was a no-go. We got the hummus plate appetizer to share, and I got the Portland Dip. The hummus plate was quite good, but my sandwich was terrible. Our server was great, but the girl who brought out our food told us straight out she had no idea what any of the food was and just started handing us plates to figure it out ourselves. We all got sandwiches (because there isn't much else on the menu) so that was hard for us to figure out. Our dips were also missing au jus. When we asked for them, she didn't know what we were talking about at all. She eventually came back with them and apologized. I think she must've been a pretty new employee, but I blame McMenamins for not thoroughly training their staff before having them work with customers. Anyways, I was hoping for a crispy baguette but the bread looked like a Costco hot dog bun. It was soft and soggy and sad looking, and the meat inside was SO SALTY I couldn't eat my sandwich alone. Thankfully we did get au jus because that was the only relief from eating pure salt. Everything took forever to come out. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for our appetizer, drinks, then for our entrees after we had finished out app. Cool concept, but poor execution of a small menu. read more

In general I'm a fan of McMenamins. I love their burgers and Cajun tots. The Loading Dock Grill has secured a good location. Sitting outside on a nice day and indulging in a burger is a good time. The thing about the LDG is that we had below average service here. Our server forgot one of the coffees and didn't bring out enough cream for everyone. This could be total coincidence, but whenever I order tots at any of the Edgefield locations they put on way too much Cajun seasoning on the tots. Requesting light seasoning affords a much better tot experience. Burger was good. Not the best burger I've had at McMenamins but still delicious and satisfying. read more

Agree with others. There was absolutely terrible service. Told it would take 25 minutes to seat and it took 45. Ordered a burger and a tuna sandwich and it still hadn't come out in 40 more minutes. We were very hungry by then and just decided to leave. When I tried paying for my beer the waitress didn't even come back for another 8 minutes. This place is ridiculous. Good selection on menu of sandwiches and pizzas. The food was very good, we got Turkey sandwiches and salads. All was fresh and well prepared. However, service was laughably slow. We were never offered drinks, got water ~10 minutes after being seated, and waited nearly an hour for our food - and this was around 8pm, well after what appeared to be their dinner rush. Seems like they need a larger kitchen for the amount of tables they have in this outside eating space. Worth it for the food if you have lots of time to kill, but don't bother if you have any type of later time commitments. read more

I love when it's warm enough that you can sit outside and enjoy some great brews and burgers at this part of the McMenamins campus. They seem to have added some more items to this menu recently and there is something for everyone (vegetarians included). Their hummus plate is a great appetizer, to hold you over while your meal is cooking, especially during a busy Sunday like today. I have started ordering whatever beer is on special and am always pleasantly surprised by their flavorful microbrews. Their burgers tend to be a bit greasy, but they definitely are delicious. My favorite is the basil burger. The servers are always delightful young men and women, often sporting tasteful tattoos and great hair. I enjoy this outdoor area because the flowers are beautiful and little birds fly all around and they're so cute. Anyway, this place is almost always packed so be prepared to spend 10-20 minutes waiting if you don't come before noon. read more

They no longer offer french fries, only tater tots and they don't offer the Scooby snacks (mini corn dogs) on neither the adult menu nor the kids menu. Since the Scooby snacks are exactly what my daughter comes for, there was obviously some disappointment after waiting an hour for our table. Fortunately, after a couple minutes of contemplation, our server was willing to place our order through the power station kitchen so that we able to have our Scoobys!!! A friend took me out to eat here and what a great experience I, and the others I was with had! I ordered the guacamole turkey burger with tots which was absolutely great. Our waitress was very attentive and handled the circumstances well. Circumstances meaning the downpour that happened during our meal. Most of the tables had umbrellas but some did not, causing the guests food to get soaked in the downpour. Which was obviously not ideal, however minus that minor blip the overall experience was a good one. The grounds are truly remarkable, I highly suggest you visit whether you eat at the restaurant or not. read more

We were waiting for our food for over 30 minutes and when it finally came, they had put chicken on the strawberry salad or whatever, and it clearly does not have it on the menu, and it says vegetarian. You would have had to place a special order to have chicken on it. The person at our table who ordered it was vegetarian, so she did not eat because she figured it would take long to make another like before. Then, they never apologized, but they didn't charge us for it, but they kept it on the bill, probably so their boss wouldn't ask them why it was taken off. read more
