It took some time for us to get service (~15 minutes) even though it wasn't very busy. But once our waiter came over we were happy with the rest of our experience. The ambiance is great - a big central bar, exposed brick, and trendy artwork. The tables are painted in chalkboard paint which is a whimsical touch. We came in for brunch. The brunch drink menu was surprisingly reasonable - $5 mimosas and Bloody Mary's. I'd recommend the Mac N Cheese Fritters. All of their food was delicious and the menu consists of "quirky" twists on classic items. Overall a fun and enjoyable dining experience. read more

The quality of their Moscow mules has really gone down over the past few years. You used to be able to taste the strong, fresh ginger but now you can't even tell that they make their ginger beer in house. The ginger flavor is really taken over by the flavors of the other ingredients in the Moscow mules but the mules taste mediocre and like they don't even have any liquor in them. I have never written a review before but I have to ask.. why is all of the staff here so rude and miserable? When you walk in, the hosts just STARE. How about a welcome? Can I get you a table? And they are standing there chatting not getting out of the way. The "host stand" is directly where you walk in and they act like you've just startled them? I've been 3 times now and every time I'm appalled by how RUDE the entire staff is. I must have said THANK YOU to the bartender five times. Zero response. I'd rather slow service than downright RUDE service. Will not be spending my money there again, convenient to the beach. Had a great time once again at Local 149. I live in Southie and this is my go to staple. I have eaten all over the city, but always have great service here. The new hostess Brittany was awesome and made us laugh. She was also so helpful when it started downpouring on us outside and helping us inside. Has the management changed here recently? Used to be one of my favorite spots in South Boston, where I have lived for the past four years, but I went for dinner last night and I was disappointed. One of the glass bottles of water that was on our table was tinged pink. At first I thought it was just the bottle and then when I poured it into my glass I realized that the water was pink. When I showed this to our waitress, they said something about there being red gatorade in the bottle previously? Which didn't make much sense and made me a little skeptical about the use of the bottles before being put on the table. Also, my sister's boyfriend and father both ordered the Sunday Special which was a Bolognese. When it arrived, it was basically Penne Pasta alla Vodka, it has little meat sauce, which was a little disappointing considering it was a special. Also, the Mac and Cheese was good but was the shells and cheese you could make from a Velveeta Box. The rest of the food was fine. My sister particularly enjoyed the Pot Roast. The drink selection is good with a lot of good beers on draft. All in all, not as great as I remembered. read more

We went to Local 149 on an early Sunday afternoon for brunch. We arrived at around 1pm, and the place was pretty packed. My worries about bringing kids into this establishment were quickly quieted when we were seated at a "chalkboard table," complete with chalk and a kids' menu. The atmosphere was pretty loud, and since we'd enjoyed the food here before, I figured we'd be able to marry our family-of-five world with our love of good food. Unfortunately, our experience went downhill right after we were seated... The schedule went something like this: 1pm - seated 1:15pm - aknowledged (finally) by server (Brendan). Given his slowness, we decided to order drinks & food right away. For the adults, a burger and a frittata; for the kids, mac & cheese. 1:30pm - drinks arrive 1:30pm - table next to us is seated.* 1:45pm - kids' food arrives 2:00pm - table next to us has their entrees.* 2:15pm - Brendan confirms the side my husband ordered with his burger; we order another round of drinks. 2:30pm - second round of drinks arrive. Brendan does not stop by our table again for almost an hour. 2:30pm - table next to us leaves.* 3:00pm - husband inquires with manager as to where our meals might be. 3:45pm - entrees finally arrive. Manager takes adult entrees off of bill. 4:15pm - we leave. Fortunately, our children (ages 5, 4, and 14 months) behaved wonderfully, given the RIDICULOUS amount of time it took for our food to arrive. Clearly, our server forgot to put the order in for the adult entrees, not one, but probably two times. NOT ONCE did he apologize for his complete lack of competence, though the manager did offer a rather apathetic apology. We get very little time together as a family. We enjoy going out to eat and our kids dine out quite often, so they enjoy restaurants and are pretty well-behaved. Waiting for almost two hours for a meal that should have taken half that time to order and eat consumed a huge portion of our precious time together. Having $30 worth of food taken off the bill did not get us our two hours back. Local 149 doesn't respect its customers. I will never eat at this establishment again and recommend that you don't, either. read more

Let me preface my review by saying that my fiance' and I eat out in town and in the area A LOT, but by no means are we food snobs. We typically tip our servers upwards of 20% and won't send something back unless it's really inedible. We're always willing to bend a bit knowing that on any given day the staff might just not be on point. Ever since St. Alphonso's on A street shut down last year we've been longing for a new spot for affordable eats and a relaxed atmosphere. That being said, we were really excited to head to a new spot, but we left totally bummed.... If it weren't such a new establishment i would have only given it two stars. Atmosphere/Service/prices: The use of old materials, fireplace and atmosphere was pretty cool, but a bit tight in some spaces. Similar to Franklin Southie they really crank the music and it's a bit hard to carry on a conversation. As far as service goes, we were seated promptly, our server was great and our food came quickly without us feeling rushed at all. Our server also seemed to know a lot about the dishes, explained the menu to us and seemed to really care about our overall experience. Kudos to the servers! While I agree somewhat with other reviews that the prices are a bit high, I disagree that they have to be more neighboorhood friendly. Anyone living in Southie that bought a small condo for $500K doesn't really have a right to complain about the prices here - they're fair in my opinion. Drinks: I should say drink here....I wasn't up for a drink, but my fiance' ordered a cosmo - a drink that 's about as hard to screw up as a cup of coffee. The first one was about one-third lime juice and was bright pink - it was promptly sent back. The second one was bad but in another way - it had about one-third Cointreau. We would have sent this one back too, but we felt bad, didn't even take a sip and basically just ate the $8. Message to bartender - a cosmo is a martini and alcohol should be added accordingly - it's not a hard drink to make and by no means should you go heavy on the Cointreau, cran or lime. Food (apps): Very bummed here.... we ordered the fried brussel sprouts and sea salt fries (I think that was what they're called) and both lacked flavor. The brussel sprouts were pretty good, but the fries were soggy and generally forgettable. Remember the last time you took some good fries home in a doggy bag and had them the next morning? That's how soggy the fries were. Dinner: I ordered the clam chowder with pork belly and couldn't wait to try it. Unfortunately, upon receiving my soup it was lukewarm at best - a few minutes into my meal it was cold. I can't figure out why it was so cold unless it was sitting on the pass for awhile...but then again it came quickly, so I'm not sure what happened. The server described my meal to me beforehand, but it still wasn't what I expected. The pork belly lacked any crisp and there wasn't really enough broth to be sopped up with the bread afterwards. I was definitely still hungry after my meal. My fiance had a chicken/sausage soup and simply described it as bland. Only when the server took it away did I notice she finished only about 1/2 of it. Hopefully what we experienced can be chalked up to the restaurant being new and that with time the food will be on par with the excellent service. We'll definitely give Local 149 another shot, but probably not for another few months. Hopefully the manager will read some of this review and view it as constructive criticism from someone who would like to see this place succeed. read more

I gotta admit, this is my go-to neighborhood spot. It's a great bar and a solid pick for date night, to catch the game, or just grab a drink/bite with a friend. Despite the trendy/edgy appearance, Local has a great mix of people, younger and older, from many walks of life. The staff has always been friendly, even on very busy nights. They make a good burger and their apps are excellent - try the beer cheese pretzel, fried mac and cheese, waffle fries or buffalo chicken cheese dip, you won't regret it (except when you step on the scale the next morning). I haven't tried many of their cocktails, but I enjoy their rotating selection of local craft beers. They also had a special cocktail recently as a fundraiser for the Colin's Joy Project, so they do their part for the neighborhood and local families. No off-street parking but street parking is fairly easy because Day Boulevard is nearby. After dinner, take a walk around Castle Island and Pleasure Bay with that special someone! read more

I went last night on a Thursday and had a great experience. We waited no more than 10-12 minutes. For a Thursday it was busy; every table taken and we were lucky to find a little hangout spot at the bar. What's great is that their bar snacks are so affordable that you can spare the 3 dollars for amazing mushroom caps to hold you over. As for the food; SO GOOD. Best stuffed mushrooms I have ever had by far. I was hesitant to get the mac n cheese bites just because I wanted to stray from something that I knew I was already going to like (I mean, its fried mac n' cheese balls!). They were not greasy at all and I did not feel like I was eating cheap, re frozen or otherwise crappy food. They were big and the sauce (a ketchup and red hot mixture?) was really interesting to go with them. I got the Lobster and Crab Rilletes. I had no idea what it was and after asking the waitress, thought I was ordering some sort of salad with like a lobster/crab dumpling (? her expanation was poor). But it turned out to be a version of what you would describe a Tuna Tartar that a lot of restaurants serve. It was a pile of lobster chunks, on top of slices of grapefruit and artichoke heart cuts, on top of a layer of crab meat salad (what would otherwise be the avacado in a tuna tartar). The crab meat salad on the bottom was not mayoey at ALL. There was a lot of lobster in that pile, so you definitely got your money's worth. The dish was also great for the lighter side. I did not leave feeling stuffed. Well, I wouldnt have if I didnt hit my partner's fries and have the mac n'cheese. My fiance got the Lamb Burger special and it was INCREDIBLE. Seriously moist and almost mashed, cooked to perfection (medium rare). Everything else that passed us while we ate looked pretty amazing, as well. WE have a list of things that we want to get next time, so I will repost when that day comes. My only critique is that they do not have good explanations of the dishes on their menu. They are trying to have that mysterious/new age feel, but there listings leave a lot to the imagination. I found myself asking a lot of questions "is this a pasta dish? What is a rillete? Is this more of a salad? What exactly is this... kind of things." And our waitress was sweet, but didn't do a good job explaining. She left the table with me still confused, but too embarrassed to keep asking. Wine is expensive for the amount in the glass. GREAT beer at expensive but reasonable prices. You can get 5/6 dollar beers and still get good and different ones. The Red Ale Winter (Holyoke, MA) was great. read more

Been in four times since the opening. I have been incredibly excited for a decent place to grab a drink close to home, late at night, after work. South Boston needs a decent place with more to offer than Bud LIght, chicken wings, and DB's. The Franklin isn't quit my scene. Great beer list, great menu, pedestrian cocktail list, and almost no attention paid to wine. Love the idea of charcuterie from behind the bar...the hand cranked slicer is a great touch. I spoke with the guy behind the bar who said he was in charge of the station, and he informed me that they don't cure any of the meats in house...a little disappointing. However, the Serrano was delicious. I also love the "bar snacks selection". Hogs Wings, Clams Casino, and Pigs in a Blanket were all awesome! Service has been o.k. each visit. Actually came in three nights in a row after work...around 11pm, when it wasn't terribly busy... and was waited on by the same bartender each time without any type of acknowledgment that I had been sitting in the same seat exactly 24 hours prior. Tried to stop in Sunday night with a group of co-workers. We arrived shortly before 11:30, but the door was locked. I was able to make eye contact with the gentleman who has been at the door on my previous visits. He walked to the door...didn't open it...and shouted that they were closed, and that very few people had been in since 9 o'clock. There were at least 8 or 10 people sitting at the bar...maybe employees? There is also a sign next to the front door saying that the kitchen is open until 12 am, and the bar is open until 1am. Too bad that after a couple of weeks, they have decided to run the joint in the same manner as the rest of the douche bags in South Boston. Wow .........is this place good. In my opinion, Boston is overrepresented with steak houses, high end restaurants and martini bars. It lacks a true neighborhood bar with good food, atmosphere and vibe Local 149 is all three with a big center bar and a dining area to the left and right. It is a really nice place without being pretentious. I thought the chalkboard tables were pretty cool They have plenty of beer, and a really eclectic menu featuring fried chicken and waffles, turkey scallopini and succotash among other faire. I had the swordfish and it was perfect...yes perfect. Perfectly cooked on a bed of perfectly cooked lentils, surrounded by a perfect puree of carrots and balanced perfectly by a vinaigrette reduction I hate giving this place such a good review, because in a few months I will have to wait two hours for a table......It does, however, deserve my lofty rating based on last nights meal read more

Living in Southie for two years, I really wanted to like this place. It has a great atmosphere and cool decor which a lot of Southie spots are missing. The problem is that the food just isn't that good... especially for the prices you'll pay. I've been here for brunch twice and both times I came away disappointed. The eggs were runny and the home fries were dry. For lunch I've had the standard cheeseburger and it was fine but nothing amazing. On the positive side, the rotating tap has a good selection and they have an impressive cocktail list. Also, the service is nice from my experiences. But the good news really ends there. Overall, it's worth checking out if you live on that end of Southie, but not worth a trip if you're anywhere else in the city. There are better options for the same price and atmosphere in the South End. read more

Local 149 was crowded, so I was hoping there was a reason for its popularity. Unfortunately, my beer was barely cooler than room temperature, and the food I ordered was mediocre. I ordered the chicken pot pie special, and it had chicken chunks that seemed like the kind you buy in the grocery store, fully cooked and preserved in plastic packages. So, the chicken didn't have much flavor, and the texture was rubbery/spongy. The veggies in the pie seemed canned or frozen, except the potatoes and carrots. The gravy also seemed like low end canned grocery store quality, not homemade. The crust was a square of puff pastry, not homemade pie crust. I have had better chicken pot pie in diners and from the frozen food aisle. The taste was very bland, and there were no salt and pepper shakers to be seen to spice it up a bit. The service was friendly, but sporadic due to the large crowd. I liked the fire in the fireplace with real wood. If only this place served better quality food than standard food service fare and poured cold beer, preferably in frosted glasses, I'd return. I think I miss the Farragut House!! I was really excited about this place opening especially since it's walking distance from my house. We used to eat at the Farragut all the time and I won't be stopping in at 149 as frequently..... The decor is cool, dark & modern (I wish they reshaped the bar from what it was when it was Farragut House). We stopped in for drinks, we we greeted by the doorman who is very nice-but the host/manager was having a friendly conversation with a server and did not greet us. Snagged some seats at the bar, the female bartenders were very nice an attentive but I noticed that when one of them took out the trash she never washed her hands afterward. Ugh. I also noticed that all four bartenders took toasted and took shots around 10:30 p.m. Sounds fun and they should celebrate, but maybe at the end of the night? And the restaurant is a little young to be looking so unprofessional? Don't you have to earn your rep as a restaurant before you get too comfortable? Also unprofessional was the uniforms. Looks like everyone has to wear black shirts, jeans and sneakers. Cool, I like the idea-but the staff looked lack-luster, some sneakers were raunchy looking, some girls had tank tops on (it was 25 degrees out), the bartenders bra was hanging out-just generally unprofessional looking for such a new restaurant. I haven't ate here, nor will because three friends have had awful experiences, and I was impressed when I went in for just a drink. One friend asked for butter and the server said "I dunno, I don't think so let me check," another friend asked if they had plain grilled chicken for a salad to which they could not accommodate him so they piled fried chicken on a salad-don't they have to put the batter on it before they fry it-couldn't they try to accommodate a guest?! AND a third friend went in for dinner last night and received three different sets of dirt utensils-not only that, but she watched as the male manager and a busser cleared the table pouring the guest's (who had left) water on the the table and wiping it down with their used napkins...EWWWWWW!!!!! I hate to be a stickler for details, but after working in the upscale restaurant industry for almost 10 years it's painful to watch the little stuff go by the wayside...and hygiene is so important. I was so excited about coming to Local 149. I heard it was very kid friendly, especially for brunch on a Sunday! There are not too many places you can go in Southie now a days with your kids (even on a Sunday). Beer Garden, Play Wright.. all still full of drunk Yuppies (no matter what time or day of the week you go).. Anyway.. was greeted at the door, but the nicest hostess.. and then it all went down hill. It took 10 minutes to bring a children's menu and 12 minutes for the waitress to come over to take our drink order. She was so rude it was almost funny. Then, my 4 year old and i went to the bathroom where the new bartender said "i hate F*CKING getting into these clothes for work" after seeing my 4 year old go into the bathroom stall. CLASSY. I was mortified, and my daughter told me after that she waited to come out of the stall until the mean lady left. Same bartender came out of the bathroom and was talking loudly to another bartender about another staff member and what a "bitch she was". The meal took 25 minutes to come out... the waitress said "sorry, we had a pre dinner shift meeting" Nobody checked on us to see how the meal was. Menu is very eclectic, and i don't even remember what my chicken sandwich tasted like. I just wanted to get out of there. I have to add the disclaimer that I was a Farragut House semi-regular, and am still pissed about losing it as my go to place for a quick casual place to hit up for dinner on a random school night... So with that said, I'll now try to write an unbiased review on 149... Approaching this old/new haunt, I was really not sure of what to expect; the sign seems pretty uppity for Southie, so I was expecting sort of a semi modern motif inside. I was surprised by the purposfully ironical hipster union inspired decor, the loud music, and south endish lighting and yuppy clientele. I get it, I am entering my waning years as a yuppy, and if I was 24ish, I think that I would love all of this. But right now I am a few doors down from my house and I just want some steaktips and a beer plus a tv or two to watch Remy for a few innings before going home and crashing with my wife so we can hit up homedepot in the morning or maybe even bed bath and beyond. There is no Frank the Tank version of me any more. Anyway, I digress. The menu is really quite ironical in its metaphorical navigation, which I thought would be cool on Saturday night, (but not on Friday night). I just want to order something normal. After sifting through all the sections of the menu we both finally decided on the 2 least oddly paired menu items and ordered a microbrew/import to match, and then waited patiently. (The service was responsive and thoughtful, so no issues in this department). The foods arrival was quick, and presentation was actually quite impressive. I ordered the sirloin, and my wife the chicken sandwhich (summer menu). Both were enourmous portions and attractively presented, mine with a beat garnish, and beer battered onion rings. The steak was cooked to order appropriately (Rare), and was extremely flavorful. My wife was mostly silent through dinner, but was a little disappointed at how overly cheesed her frenchfries were (think overly saturated cheesed 7-11 nachos when 22 years old and blitzed out of your mind ). We ate, we chatted. We left. We discussed. "Well, what did you think?" (Me) "I don't want to admit it, but that was the best chicken sandwich I ever had" (wife). "My steak was really good too" (Me) "I still would rather have gone to Farragut House" (Unison). My issue is, this place was good. People were semi gussied up. The ambiance was contrived. This felt like near destination dining in its ironically contrived hipness. Do I really want this for my neighborhood dining experience? Fuck no! I just want to through on a sweatshirt and jeans and eat some food, maybe see somebody I know, watch an inning or two of the sox game without Kiss 108 music blasting. I'm tired. I just put in 50-60 hours at work over the past 5 days, and I want some god-damn steak tips and french fries. Am I sounding like a geezer? Probably, but that is what I am; there's no place left for geezers in southie... The bottom line is, we won't be back, at least as regulars. If I wanted this kind of fare (which I do from time to time), I'd go check this out on a Saturday night in the South End or back bay before going to a show or meeting some friends for a night out. As such, I'm evidently relegated to Friday night at Amhreins fro the rest of my life. read more

I have gotten my brunch on at Local 149 enough times now to give them 4 stars with great conviction. Well deserved, guys! Why choose Local 149 over the other spots in Southie for your brunch destination? Here's why: Ambience: I have yet to come to Local 149 (and I've been about five times now) to find it completely packed to the point where it's a lost cause for getting a table. It's a cozy spot near L street off the main drag, so both parking and seating are always relatively accessible. Nothing like Lincoln or Stats, where moving too close to the afternoon hours brings with it a gaggle of drunks and with that, watered down versions of Bloody Mary's. Now that we're moving into the colder months, they also have HEATED BOOTH SEATS and a warm fire to boast. Hash tag: COZY. Service and Food Quality: If I order a Bloody Mary from Local (which you can probably tell I'm prone to do), I know it's going to be served speedily and right. Always the right balance of flavor and the right dosage of booze. And the servers and bartenders are super friendly and great with the right amount of small talk. I particularly enjoy the bar, where because it's not too busy, they do make you feel pretty special. As far as food goes, I highly recommend the burger with a switch to sweet potato fries instead of regular. I also ordered 4 oysters on my last visit and these Wellfleets were massive. I was actually satisfied with 4 instead of my normal half or full dozen order. My one call to action for Local 149 is to maybe add some additional items to the menu that are entrees but a bit more on the lighter side relative to a traditional, carby breakfast. Maybe an additional salad with some salmon or tuna protein a bit more exciting than the Caesar? You don't have to twist my arm to order the burger, but an exciting, healthier alternative would be good in the rotation. Also, if you add Tito's Vodka to your arsenal, I will be such a happy camper! read more

My friend and I were looking for something new & different for our Labor Day lunch, so we decided to try The Local 149 in Southie.. The FIRST hint was that it was nearly empty at lunchtime on a holiday, save for a few guys having some brews at the bar. We were offered menus that were nearly impossible to navigate...a real mess.. and weren't really finding anything that wasn't WAY overpriced for the locale, as the original Farragut House was great..and REASONABLE. We decided after being totally turned off by the selections, ie: (Fried Brussel Sprouts?) We thought, well, what the hell, we're here now, so we ordered the 'Meat & Cheese' plate, which we were ASSURED was 'enough for two' ($16). What came to the table was a joke. A few small pieces of indistinguishable cheese, two TINY handfuls of thin-sliced "Johnson" ham (whatever THAT is) and a bunch of small hor's d'oeuvre rounds of bread. I'm sure that this would've been a FEAST in Ethiopia, but if I'm shelling out $16 bucks for something that wouldn't have made ONE sandwich at home, I'll do just that next time. Stay home. We refused it. The manager wouldn't even comp my wine. I'd have done that without THINKING, to assure satisfaction. We would never step FOOT in that place again and I'll spread this around to all our friends so that it doesn't happen to them. They won't last. Guaranteed. read more

I really like this spot- it has almost everything I could want in a local restaurant/bar: an eclectic mix of people, an extensive drink menu, cool bites & normal food, middle-of-the-road ambiance, and average prices. I think I would like it more if it had more of a lounge-feel,but it does have some cozy little booths...plus a bar area with t.v.'s with the Sox on, so there's a nice mix going on. FOOD: I like unique bites. For me, the Southern-fried egg, the stuffed squash blossom, and this stuffed fig appetizer are bomb. DRINKS: The bartender, Mickey, is pretty knowledgeable. I've come here a few times and have always have a great mixed drink, and, most recently, a fabulous stout. (I think the brewery was called Left Hand?) Came here for brunch a few Sundays ago right at 11:20am and got seated right away with our group of 4. awesome food and can be really healthy; I eat Paleo and was able to get an omlet without cheese. it was very delicious and the server was really friendly! i don't live in southie (but actually the south end) and thought this brunch was just as good--if not better--than places like coppa in south end. def. would come back if i didn't live so far! yum! highly recommend! read more

Our table was sticky to the touch. We were brought water that was warm, no straws, had to ask for them and when delivered no wrapping on the straws. The service was slow, we think they may of been short handed. We both order burgers with fries, the burger was pretty good, the fries were awful, cheap frozen ones were served. Almost $35.00 for two glasses of warm water and two burgers w/fries. Won't go there again! read more

Wow. Just wow. I went to Local 149 with my cousin on Saturday night. The moment we walked in the door we were greeted by a friendly staff (sometimes a rarity in Boston). We arrived for dinner around 8-8:30 and only had to wait 20 minutes for a seat. Our server, Alana, was so great. She was warm, friendly, and funny. She made sure that we had the best dining experience possible. When I told her I wanted the steak tips, she recommended the beer-braised short ribs. After all, I can get steak tips any where or make them at home. I'm so glad that I ordered the short ribs. It was so tender and juicy. It was garnished apricots, and complimented the beef wonderfully. I dream about this dish. The inside is decorated beautifully. Wide hardwood floors, copper ceiling, and a fire place. They manage to have an upscale appearance without seeming snooty or pretentious. I'll be coming back often. I can't wait to try out the other items on the menu! read more

Be prepared for a pretty inconsistent eating experience, this is a solid 3 star on starters (or "schematics" on the menu), and a weak 2 star on everything else. A friend and I ordered some [way too much] food... We got... Food: The fried pickles ($4) Fried brussel sprouts ($7) Hog Wings ($9 for 3) Avocado Skin ($6 for half an avo) Beets! ($12) Chicken Patty ($12) Side of Mac n Cheese ($3) Drinks: Chocolate Malt & maca milkshake ($5) Jack's Abby ($5.50/pint) Local 149 started pretty strong with reasonably priced bar food that was pretty damned tasty, with fried pickles being a good quick gnosh to take the edge off, though nearly half of it consisted of pieces too small to really be much more than 'fried batter.' The hog wings were pretty damned good, fall off the bone tender, meaty, sauce could have used a bit of a vinegar zing. I'd recommend requesting the chipotle-lime dipping sauce with them, instead of the house sauce. What the fried brussel sprouts lacked in quality, they made up for in quantity. The smaller ones and the halved-ones were sufficiently cooked through and not so bad, whereas the larger ones were still raw inside and bitter. A bit of par boiling would have easily fixed this, also a lighter coating (or maybe no coating) may've gone over better. Still, not a bad deal. The mac and cheese was perfectly acceptable, not bad for the price; macaroni elbows awash in a smooth cheese sauce. The avocado skin was... well, wasn't quite sure what to expect, but we got half of a giant avocado covered in nut dust with some blanched broccoli rabe, a drizzle fo creme fraiche, and it took us a couple of moments to figure out that the brittle dark strips were the eggplant "bacon." You are basically paying 6 dollars for half of a raw avocado with a few accouterments that neither add nor subtract from the value. There was a pretty sharp drop from there... On the beet salad, I can't say I like salads that require a knife to eat, large wedges of bee was nothing impressive, (overly) large chunks of red beet, with lightly pickled golden beets, etc. Wasn't substantial, wasn't impressive, was overpriced. The chicken patty sandwich was amazingly bland, like, no flavor. I am confident I could have gone to the store, got a frozen chicken cutlet, and some vegetables, and made an equal or better sandwich. We slathered it with some of the mayonaise that came on the side of an app, which drew out a scant bit of flavor. The fries it came with were mixed, some had stuck together which stopped them from frying properly, leaving us heavy, soggy fries, others were crisp but covered with a not-particularly-cheesy cheese sauce. On a final, bittersweet note, the chocolate malt maca milkshake tasted neither chocolatey or malty, though was impressively thick, topped with sweetened coconut that imparted no real benefit. Beer selection was good, prices were reasonable, I'd personally advise keeping to bar snacks and spirited drinks. read more
