I stumbled in by chance at like 2:00 pm and there weren't a lot of people there. My server was so polite, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the whole restaurants ambiance makes it look like a boutique restaurant[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and it is because the food I ordered: Literally the best grilled cheese I've ever had. Please come to this restaurant. I can't recommend it enough
Located in South Boston, this is the perfect dinner place. Every Monday they have $10 martinis so I went with a couple of friends for drinks and food. They have a select menu for their martinis and I got the lemon drop. We started with the whipped feta and prosciutto arancini which was perfect appetizers for 5 of us. Then I got the smash burger with fries and it was delicious, and the fries were great with it. Then for dessert we shared the cookie skillet which was the perfect end to the meal. The service was great and our waiter was super attentive and kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space was also very romantic and dimly lit with little lamps at every table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have outdoor seating which I enjoyed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, a great experience and would recommend.
This place has been on my "must try" list for quite some time now. I'm not sure if it was because my expectations have been building for a while, but I was a bit disappointed with my experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is picture perfect. Adorable outdoor area, the fresh flowers on tables, aesthetic menus, mood lighting, etc. This place is CHARMING.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think the martini Monday deal isn't quite the deal. The glass size is just a bit too small to make it worth it. I ended up pivoting to a Hugo Spritz and was much more satisfied. In terms of food, I ended up splitting the ricotta toast and getting the smashburger. Clearly the burger was so good I killed it before I could get a photo. Now the toast...was a bit overrated. It was a bit bland despite being gorgeous. Despite it being quite busy the service was pretty good, I definitely wanna give this place another shot and switch up my order!
Easily my favorite restaurant I've tried in southie! Nice date night spot with the low (but not too low) lighting and a nice music level (so you can easily talk!). There was a candle and some flowers at each table too which added a nice touch. We had a 6:45 reservation on a Saturday and were seated pretty quickly which was nice. I ordered the Eros sour for my cocktail which was amazing! It was very refreshing and definitely something you could enjoy any time of the year. For our appetizer we got the charred scallion dip with potato chips. The dip was so good. There was a slight char taste which came towards the end of each bite which I loved. I wish the potato chips were warm, but that's a personal preference. For our entrees, we got the butternut squash ravioli and the spicy vodka pasta with grilled chicken. If you like sweet, the ravioli is outstanding. The brown butter sauce paired with the sage and butternut filling is just divine. I would get this over and over, it was so good. The spicy vodka pasta was also delicious. My boyfriend described is as savory, creamy, and cheesy (with the fresh parm). The chicken was delicious in the pasta and it was just the perfect amount of spicy. It was "the bomb dot com", also described by my boyfriend. The food and drinks came out in good time and our waitress was attentive. The bill came out with a postcard which was nice. We will definitely be back!
Such a cute spot! We went for brunch! Loved the ambience and vibe and the food was also soooo good!! I got the steak and eggs served with holandaise on the side (love that they put on the side so it's not overpowering)! We also shared the buttermilk pancakes that came with lemon whipped cream and syrup these were honestly soooo good and my friend got the breakfast burrito which she really liked! I went to Petula's for brunch with some friends and we absolutely LOVED the food here! We started with Shrimp Cocktail which was expensive for shrimp but they were huge and tasted great. I ordered the Avocado Toast with a poached egg and wow, I don't know how they made something so simple taste so delicious. My friends ordered the Egg Sandwich and the Quiche/Salad. Both looked great, especially the ricotta dollops on the quiche! I also ordered some specialty iced coffee that had maple and I think sea salt in it? I've been thinking about that coffee now for 2 days it was so good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Petula's is absolutely beautiful inside and has such a good vibe for a girls brunch![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will say it is a small space and gets very loud and the service could be alittle more friendly but I know eating out in southie not to expect the nicest service, but the food makes it worth it![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I did wish it had more of the elderflower flavor but it did taste good and was strong. The whipped ricotta was refreshing as it was light and creamy. super cute brunch spot! definitely a more feminine location or a place to brunch with the girls or with mom, though i have seen the odd couple or so when i've walked by. petulas is also known for their martini mondays so definitely do that deal if you are interested in getting boozy on a monday! we came for sunday brunch with my parents and the food was good. service was nice but stretched a little thin. i thought it was interesting that they had the paper menus and how those act as your placemats. i think ultimately this isn't going to be a brunch that blows you away but rather is a good place to gab with the girls and has food that everyone will enjoy - a little bit of a healthier brunch than normal. i got the pizza and enjoyed it honestly.

It also came with a spinach salad and hash browns on the side. Everything was well seasoned and the tangy aioli paired well with the sandwich. My one complaint was the hash browns which were odd. They was served as a solid crispy potato block that was difficult to eat. It felt like the entire thing had been deep fried for too long and was even hard to cut through. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my brunch and might consider coming back to try the dinner menu.
Petula's menu is the food version of a wet dream for me (sorry for the crudeness, but is there a more apt description?). So many dishes to choose from - do I go with the salmon crudo or the whipped ricotta or the mushroom pizza or the vodka tomato pasta or the lobster roll? Plus they do this special of free fries with every glass of bubbles, which honestly seems too good to be true. The dishes we ordered, ranked from favorite to least favorite: 1. Vodka tomato pasta - you see this dish on almost every table for a reason. The pasta was cooked to a perfect level of al dente with a gloriously simple tomato sauce. I would say this is a dish that isn't the most adventurous but maybe its basic nature is what makes it appealing. A very comforting, homey plate of pasta that I could see myself eating when it gets cold out. 2. Chili chicken wings - Interesting combo of flavors with the fermented chili and gochujang. I could taste a punch of sweetness, not sure where that was from. Though the wings were cooked well, my favorite was actually the herb ranch that came on the side (incidentally, the dish is labeled dairy free, so interested to know what was in that ranch). 3. Whipped ricotta toast - my cousin LOVED this dish but I needed more toast to balance out the wetness of the olive oil and ricotta. 4. Chopped salad - Although I usually go for the Caesar salad above all else, I figured the chopped salad, with its abundance of ingredients (cheese! meat! chickpeas! banana peppers!), was worth a try. The dressing was too tart and salty, especially when combined with the salami. Good if you're desperate for some veggies, but next time, I'd try the other salads. Beautiful ambiance though it got crazy loud during our dinner - the decibel level was fine when we came at around 6 but then got progressively louder. Early dinners are the way to go. Parking: A bunch of 2-hour visitor spots along the street. Just be careful not to park in a resident permit spot.
$16 for what was honestly the smallest breakfast burrito I've ever had. It only had about five small pieces of sausage and maybe a teaspoon of salsa, it was mostly tortilla. It was also barely seasoned, so there wasn't much flavor. I usually like Petula's food, but lately the prices have been way too high for the portion size and overall taste. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast, although the coffee is good, which is why I'm giving it two stars. Still, $23 total for a small burrito and a small coffee feels pretty unreasonable. There are a lot of better places nearby for half the cost.
We went out last night for 630 reservation. Michaela was our server, she was amazing. It was my birthday and they added such a cute little card that said, "happy birthday" it had real flowers inside of a drawn on vase, such a special touch. There were 4 of us. Everything we ordered was to share. First was the Chopped salad which was out of this world. It literally tasted like you were eating an Italian sub (without the bread). Next we ordered each one of the 3 pasta dishes the Cacho Pepe was one of the best I've ever had. Then we got the steak freights cooked beautifully the chicken came w/ couscous, green beans, and one of the tastiest apple sauces I've ever had. We ended it with a hot cookie skillet, which came with a candle for my birthday and that cookie tasted like someone's Nana just baked it [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambience was absolutely stunning, very relaxing, girly and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The beautiful dried roses hanging from the ceiling behind the bar was a beautiful touch in the delicate candle lamps on each table really added to the aesthetic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will 100% recommend this to everybody I know and I will be back.

Really, it's such a beautiful space, dimly lit and buzzing with happy diners.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ricotta toast was pretty and slightly sweet with fresh peas and pickled red onions. Arancini was deeply fried and delicious. Pizza margarita was perfect. Pasta was good but a bit overcooked. Steak frites was a bit bland and needed some salt. Frites were very basic fries, unevenly cooked. Not quite perfect but I would absolutely come back and stick to cocktails, appetizers, and pizzas. Is this place French? Italian? New American? Anyway it's in southie with typical Southie parking so take an uber. Once you are inside, though, it's special. She was incredible. She managed to be attentive without hovering and was genuinely friendly. She made the night feel even more special. Here is the breakdown: * Charred Scallion Dip (4/5): Good portion for sharing with kettle chips but needs more onion flavor. * Prosciutto Arancini (3/5): $20 for four tiny balls is a tough sell so I would skip these. * Fried Artichokes (5/5): Actually the best appetizer we ordered. * Brussels Sprouts (4/5): The new hot honey prep is tasty but serving them on top of blue cheese made it a bit too busy. * Classic Caesar (5/5): Lot of anchovy flavor in the dressing makes this elite. * Butternut Squash Ravioli (6/10): very sweet. This is for you if your like sweet or want dessert. * Margherita Pizza (5/5): dough is fantastic they must make it from scratch and that stands out. * Sweet Sausage Pizza (5/5): Just as good as the margherita and proves the pizza program here is legit. * Skillet Cookie (5/5): You can never go wrong with a warm skillet cookie. * Palm Negroni (5/5): I wanted more coconut initially but the balance actually ends up being perfect. * Espresso Martini (4/5): Solid and not too sweet considering there is no actual espresso in it. * Eros Sour (5/5): Unique and balanced. The food is generally strong, but the pricing on some of the small plates feels off, especially that arancini. The pizzas are a real stand out. Bathroom Review: [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are two single stall gender neutral restrooms with baby changing stations. They are very clean. Petula's has such amazing brunch! So I was honestly appalled when I got this breakfast sandwich. The eggs benny is phenomenal, but this was literally freaky. Definitely do not get the breakfast sandwich. The egg?? EW. I'm sorry Petula's I love you guys but this is so disgusting:( read more

I cannot rave about Petula's enough! Perfect for date night or girls night... the Martini Monday deal is crazy good especially considering both the dirty gin martini and the espresso martini we ordered were incredible. The menu is filled with exciting and appetizing small plates, the restaurant is SO SO cute and aesthetically pleasing, and the staff is so kind. One of my fave eats of the year and officially on my Boston top 10 list! read more

I came here for brunch with my boyfriend and we adored our experience! First, our server was so funny and kind! She was patient with us while we took a bit determining what to order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Second, the atmosphere is so nice! This is such a cute place![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lastly, our food and drinks were delicious. I only snapped a pic of my drink- the zee zee mocktail- but we both ordered Caesar salads. No complaints here! I hope to return soon read more

Our oldest moved to South Boston recently and we were looking for a restaurant nearby. We decided on Petula's and so glad we did. We had reservations for a Monday evening so it was moderately busy. Our server Maddy was outstanding. Perfect timing, attentive, helpful and always smiling. We had fried artichokes, ceasar salad, oysters and arancini to start and everything was 10/10. My daughters both had the vodka pasta, I had the fried chicken sandwich and my wife had the tuna crudo. The pasta was outstanding, the tuna dish got rave reviews. My chicken sandwich was above average, would've benefited from a little more sauce, was just a bit dry but still very good. We had 3 cocktails to start and a bottle of wine with dinner. The tab without tip was just shy of 300 so a little pricey but the wine added significantly to the bill. In sum, can't wait to go back, amazing food and service. read more

Had brunch with a few people at Petulas in New Year's Day. The place has a great, cozy vibe and had winter decorations going. Cute for a date spot. The food was really good we got the blueberry lemon pancakes and the smash burger. It was strange that there was only one waitress working the whole place and she was trying her best but it was slow because she didn't have any help. Maybe someone called out or didn't show but just how it was on the day I went. read more
Had a great time at Petula's on a busy Saturday night. For those considering, you definitely need to get a reservation ahead of time (at least during the weekends), as this place was full the whole time we were there. The atmosphere was great, the tables weren't on top of each other and the ambiance was nice, you could actually hear people at your table talk. We started the night with a house salad and some shrimp cocktails, a light and tasty start. We moved on to some entrees - duck lasagna and sweet potato gnocchi. These dishes were delicious, the duck on the lasagna and pork on the gnocchi were cooked very well and the plate itself was a good amount of food to leave us satisfied. Overall it was a fabulous time and we will be going back again. read more

Came on a Sunday for brunch at 12:30. It was crowded when we arrived and pretty loud - the space is tightly packed - but within about an hour it had cleared out a bit and quieted down. It's a nice space but does feel a little overcrowded. Service was fine. The waitress commented on the pace I was eating at which was a little uncomfortable but other than that, no complaints. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with no meat. I saw some complaints that it's overpriced but $13 for a breakfast sandwich, hash brown patty, and side salad seems pretty fair to me for Southie. The sandwich was yummy! The tomato jam was a nice touch to balance out the richness of the egg and cheese and buttery bun. The hash brown and the salad were both good too. I found my visit to Petula's wonderfully charming. My egg sandwich for brunch was positively lovely, with a tomato jam and arugula, and the hash brown was to die for!! The side salad had what I think was mint in it? Not sure but it was unbelievable and very light. My friend had the hash and eggs and loved every bite! What a delightful ambience, with flowers everywhere and truly feels like a little European bistro! read more
I was so excited to try Petula's as I've heard it's one of the best restaurants in Southie. Right when you walk in, the ambiance is very impressive. It's definitely a photographable restaurant and we were able to sit by the open window. Service was good too and had good recommendations. For food, we shared the salmon crudo and then a caesar salad and I ordered the vodka pasta. The salmon crudo was not really a crudo in my opinion. The salmon was layered with thin pieces of peach next to a weird sauce. The sauce was also very thick. The salmon was warm and I wish the entire dish was colder. The salad was standard but good. The pasta was disappointing. There was simply nothing to it that made it special. The actual noodles weren't cooked well and fell apart. Maybe it was the shape of the noodle but I didn't love it. I think Petula's is one of those restaurants where you pay for the vibe. I will say though, it offers more than most restaurants in Southie. read more

Everything we had to eat and drink was delicious, and the atmosphere is such a good vide. I had a gin and tonic, and my boyfriend had a cocktail with spicy tequila in it, and both were great. The scallion dip with potato chips was a great starter and not too big, and we really enjoyed our entrees (scallops and fish and chips). Service was quick and our server was very nice. Only con is it is very loud in there, so I would not recommend bringing small children or going there for a first date. read more

Went to Petula's for date night and we loved it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere combined with the food made it a perfect summer date night spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the arancini and tuna tartare which were both good. I opted for the salmon (cooked perfectly and the veggies were amazing!) and my boyfriend loved the smashburger. As an espresso martini connoisseur, I must say these may be my favorite ones in all of southie! will definitely be back soon. read more

I visited Petula's with a couple friends after hearing about Martini Monday on social media. I arrived with one of my friends a bit earlier than our reservation; however, the staff were attentive to us and seated us right away. As we settled in, we took in the buzz and charm of the space. It is quite trendy and has a fun, young vibe. It was clear that Martini Monday had reached the right population they were looking for! As we waited for our other friend to arrived, we ordered two martinis; the Cosmo and Lemon Drop. Both were incredible! They were tasty, refreshing, and definitely packed a punch. After my other friend arrived, we ordered food. I ordered the Smash Burger, which was quite good! Please note that you cannot customize how they cook it, since it is two thinner patties that cook fairly quick. The burger comes with a hefty helping of fries and is $18. Definitely worth the price! For dessert, we shared a skillet cookie, which was AMAZING. It is a chocolate chip cookie and includes vanilla ice with butterscotch drizzle, which was large enough to split across three people. We were raving when we finished it. All in all, the service was great, drink were amazing, food was quite delicious, and the vibe was phenomenal. Will be coming back soon! read more

Surely the best brunch/dinner spot a 20 something year old like me can get recommended on their Instagram. After coming across a video about Petula's Martini Mondays, I grabbed my friends and said let's go. We made reservations for a Monday at 8:15 and was seated quickly. The waitress gave us great recommendations and had sent out all of our food together. While scanning the restaurant, it's like you're whisked to a European styled restaurant. Roses hanging from the ceiling, couples enjoying candlelit dinner, and a busy bar all night long. The restaurant really loves their flowers. It even made me wonder who is Petula - what's her story? Here's everything we ordered and my ratings for each dish. (best to least favorite) 1. Vodka Pasta This first drew my eye because I've never had vodka pasta before but after looking at old reviews, I really wanted to try. It had a spicy creamy flavor and the sauce was a nice consistency. 2. Street corn pizza This was the first dish I tried, and I really liked the spicy and salty flavor. Unfortunately, the cheese did roll off the pizza when I took a bite so there wasn't that satisfying cheesy pull. nevertheless, it was still an amazing dish. 3. Bruschetta toast I was never big on sweet foods, but I wouldn't say this to be sweet. It was a mix of both sweet and salty with a very creamy texture to it. Amazing to enjoy but can get messy if you don't like eating with your hands. Guilty!!! 4. Chili wings Unfortunately, this was a mess for me because although I do like chicken wings, I don't like saucy wings and got messy for me real quick. it was still a pleasant experience to try and the flavor was very punchy spicy and aromatic. For drinks, I had a Cosmo and it did taste a bit strong, but I'm not complaining. if you're an Instagram, loving 20 something-year-old like me and wants to go to a hidden Boston gem, definitely come to Petula's. read more

I loved my dinner here! The interior is very cute and so is the patio area. I sat outside and enjoyed my experience (it did get a little bit buggy tho). I got the vodka drama to drink and it was very strong yet very tasty. It was a pretty, well garnished drink as will. Then I got the shrimp cocktail, asparagus, and vodka pasta. Everything was delectable. Service was a bit slow, but that was so be expected because the place was packed. Still fantastic experience overall! read more
Such a great spot for brunch or dinner with friends! The food is consistently high quality, the drinks are delicious, and the space is so airy and charming. We went recently for brunch and ordered the steak & eggs, breakfast burrito, egg sandwich, and buttermilk pancakes. The standouts were definitely the breakfast burrito and pancakes. The burrito has a pico de gallo style salsa in it that makes it incredible - one of the best I've tried. The pancakes were light and fluffy with a very light lemon whipped cream that acts like a butter. I would probably skip the steak & eggs next time around though - the steak was great, and the hash brown delicious, but the hollandaise it came with was a bit too tart.
