    she-crab soup, 123 Wedge Salad
    Ike S.

Atmosphere & service were GREAT. The she-crab soup was no good. The trout was delicate and flaky, nicely done, but the bed of greens it was on was not cohesive, raw, and flavorless, and the goat cheese was piled atop sliced lemons you could not eat so you had to knock the cheese off. "Bro thinks he's gordon ramsey" yeah I do. Roasted oysters buried in cream cheese that was not mentioned on the menu. Wedge salad was good. Additionally I was offered bread to go with my she-crab soup and it was a sneaky $6 charge. Good bread though. I have been trained to do this as a waiter and it's a great way to upsell, but the deception depressed the hell out of me. I appreciated the tennis on the TV.

Caesar salad with a side piece of haddock

Food: The food was done well. The fried haddock had a really light and crispy batter. The Caesar salad had a good dressing but it was overly dressed in my opinion-I like that they use local in season veggies like watermelon radishes on the salad. The clam chowder had good flavor but was incredibly thick like a gravy. The smoked trout dip was good. Service: The server overall was fine but didn't check in as she should have. We asked for something to be adjusted and she never checked to see if it had been done correctly-it hadn't. Ambiance: We sat outside which is a nice option the inside looked nice though as well.

First of all our waitress, Rachel, was so sweet! The manager also was nice and comped part of our meal. Unfortunately the positives end there. We ordered the following: Clam chowder - Ok, not great. I thought it was too cheesy. Hush puppies - To us, not good at all. Had corn and onions in them but really had no flavor at all. Asked the waitress to take them back. Crab cakes - Again, not good but edible. Chicken Pot Pie - not good at all. Only ate the crust off the top. The base had an odd flavor and the veggies were crunchy. We had read other reviews for this place and so we were looking forward to a good meal. Highly disappointed.

Crab cakes, green beans, potatoes, hush puppies

I have become a really picky eater but they hit all the points with high praise!!! The crab cakes were made well with lots of fresh crab. The green beans were yummy as were the potatoes. And the hushpuppies were so great that for the first time this Southern girl didn't put butter on them. The sauce was just the right addition. The waitress was nice and the food came out quickly. The ambiance is beautiful

    Wedge salad with shrimp

First time here. The staff was very friendly. I could tell our waitress had her hands full with tables but she managed it well. I ordered the Capt's platter with scallops and fried oysters. Very decent sized portion and tasted good. Had a cup of clam chowder which was different from the white I am used to but still very tasty. I would return again.

    Tough lobster, bland vegetables.

I've enjoyed the grilled tuna. Their crab cakes are to die for! It's my favorite seafood restaurant in Staunton. The service was great too!)

The service was EXCELLENT. I swear, our drinks from the bar were at the table before we even ordered them, and they were delicious! The food was pretty good. The kids got penne pasta with marina. It tasted like canned marinara, so I wasn't a fan, but they tore into it! I got the veggie pasta and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious. The veggie pasta was pretty good, though it could have used an olive oil drizzle. My husband had the bison Burger and liked it. We also got dessert. The peanut butter pie was sooo sweet. The cheesecake was a good cheesecake. I would eat there again.

To the left is a large seating area that I didn't know was there until I went to the restroom. The bar is stunning. We were served by Jennifer. We shared artichoke dip; hubby had the lump crab cake sandwich with a side of coleslaw which he demolished, and I had the Toosday salad--delicious and a huge portion, with fresh pieces of apple, pecan, feta cheese and well prepared grill chicken. Had both the poppyseed and raspberry vinaigrette dressings which complimented the salad. Leftovers for me and no dessert. Great train area as well for train buffs.

Finally, our drinks were taken by the bar tender and before we could get them we were seated. The drinks were never put in or she just flat ignored us. (We both saw her write the order down.) Our server finally had to re order them, we had now been there 22 minutes with no cocktails. Absurd. Anyway, our server Jerrod was great but everything else was subpar. I've made better scallops in my sleep and the presentation was an absolute train wreck, looked like it had been thrown on the floor and then scooped back up. The charcuterie plate was decent and the locally sourced cheeses were great, especially that Brie. But this place is overrated, at best. I can't recommend it for the price. Pretentious, overpriced and quite boring, not to mention unprofessional.

There are so many options in this lovely town but I made a reservation at Zynodoa because I have been on a farm-to-table kick lately. The servers and hosts were all lovely, interacting with both the guests and each other professionally and amicably. My server Sarah gave me as much attention as anyone else, even though I was the only person dining alone. I ordered the tomato and burrata appetizer. I am not a big raw tomato eater but I knew if these were truly farm-to-table, they would taste good, and they did. The flavor felt like a combination of sunshine and a warm hug! The cheese tasted like a sweet kiss. The portion was substantial, and there was balsamic reduction and a generous amount of coarse pesto. I ate the whole thing! For the main course I ordered the flat iron steak. Because I was traveling and didn't want leftovers, I asked the server for a smaller portion than listed, but either I wasn't clear or it wasn't an option--It's okay, though. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was a shade above rare; again, okay. Sides were good but I added salt. The meal was a bit pricey but probably fair given that it was sourced locally. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the chef is heavy handed on the sauces, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. Oh, I ordered the pinot noir and it was good, smooth, balanced. Overall impression of Zynodoa was it felt like visiting the home of a friend with a garden who loves to cook and share with her friends. The portions were generous and the seasoning was substantial. I highly recommend to anyone visiting Staunton.

I ordered a shrimp dish ("Camarones al Gusto") with their Diabla sauce. The sauce was very tasty with a medium level of spiciness and a little tang. My mother ordered their Jalapeño Roll, which was a sushi-styled dish. This is the one negative about our meal: she thought the Jalapeño Roll didn't have enough jalapeños and the flavors weren't strong enough. We split fried ice cream for dessert. They have a wide selection of Mexican beers and tequilas. I ordered a Negra Modelo, followed by a Victoria. All in all, I really liked this restaurant, and I look forward to returning.
