Went here for a business lunch and the restaurant side was empty at 12:30pm, so we sat down and overall the service was good as two servers helped us. The food was good as well and I am just under the impression that they have server turnover going on today as I had a weird experience after ordering the meatloaf and asked for tater tots instead of mashed potatoes. The kitchen served my meatloaf with ton of tots!! I was in heaven, BUT, they forgot the green beans as listed on the menu. Since i wasn't 100% sure i was right, I asked my server if the meatloaf was supposed to come with the green beans, I'd very much like them. She never brought them!! So, I did not want to be a turd during a business lunch in front of everyone, so just ate my food and quietly left and on the way out I double-checked the menu........the meatloaf comes with green beans!! read more

This one sucks to post because we have enjoyed this place for years but somethings changed. For years my family have loved the food provided. We still love the setting and all hosts and servers have been nothing but awesome. Its the quality of food that has deminished. Ordered the Mongolian chicken and received a plate that was tasteless and lacking. This was a suburban housewifes interpretation of Mongolian chicken with zero apologies for the lack of flavor and gloried in its blandness. Firstly, it was missing two ingredients (onions and sesame seeds, im guessing either lack of caring or supply chain issues, the later of which i would expect to be told about). My "rice" as pictured was in massive clumps and the the supposedly thin sliced chicken were even bigger. There was nothing but chicken flavor and bothing of what a tradition plate of actual mongolian beef or chicken should taste like. I would usually complain but the young ladies that were serving us didbt deserve it. Over the last few months we have recieved unapologetically over cooked steak, undercooked burgers and food that is awesomly locallt sourced but whoevers cooking it either hates the food or its customers. read more

My family has supported Local since they opened but unfortunately the last couple of times, we've been very disappointed. My kids love the tater tots so we thought we'd try again but this was the last time. The time before, there were available tables that could've been scooted together but the hostess booth was too busy on their phones to seat us, and told us they had no room for us. That's what happens when children are in charge of seating. This trip was the tipping point and I decided to write the review and it goes along w the more recent ones. We were able to get in right away, surprised that they weren't as busy as other restaurants bc we had called for the wait list. It took some time for our server to take our drink order and then to bring them to us. We noticed on the menu that they welcomed back a chef that had returned and worked 2 years previously. Excited they had returned to their roots, we ordered our meals. They offered a vegetarian gyro and under the description, it noted that there was added flair to this vegetarian meal. The server brought out our meals, adding the kids plates were pretty hot and to be careful. We always dump the Mac n cheese out to cool faster, but while the plate was pretty hot, the kids meals were pretty cold, so their food was microwaved and dried out. My sons burger was just ok, same situation, hot plate, cold food. Also, prior to eating, we requested condiments and I had to physically get up and grab ketchup myself, asked another worker for mustard. That must've really irritated our server bc from then on out, even tho she was all decked out in Christmas gear topped w a tree for a headband, she obviously did not enjoy working there. My vegetarian gyro came out and you can see in the pictures, ehhhhhh. But as I took a few bites, there was no flair and I opened it up and realized it was missing multiple ingredients - tomatoes, tzatziki, etc. I called the waitress over and she said it must've blended in. She could bring me them as sides and I could make it myself. Now the whole point of me not cooking and going out to eat is so I don't have to do that, so I requested a new one. The manager came over quickly and offered the same, and I asked for a new one. She was very nice and after I opened the gyro up, she seemed to understand the issue. My family was done eating while I waited for my food to be brought out. Eventually, it did and wow! What a difference! I would never have known if I hadn't asked. The gyro was Even folded differently to hold the ingredients? Flowing in arugula, I had to move it out of the way to see the other ingredients, and overall, was worth the price. The review was originally 2 stars, due to laziness from the kitchen and snarkiness from staff, but bc the manager took effort in correcting their mistake, 3 stars bc it's basically an average eatery. Came here with some coworkers for lunch on a Friday as one of them really liked their past visits to the place. There was ample parking and I loved the "Golf Cart Parking" signs out front. Once inside, it was more upscale than I was expecting for a "pub" but it was a pretty cool vibe. We sat on the bar side and being it was too early in the day for a drink, so we ordered waters. The server seemed nice but I swear he never smiled once, he seemed much too serious for that. Due to food restrictions, I tried to read (and reread) the menu before ordering and finally settled on their ranch chicken wrap. My coworkers ordered the new hot chicken item (it was spicy but sweet) and their chicken gyro (both liked their meal). I can't say the chicken wrap wowed me and I wish I had paid closed attention to the small font on the menu that reads "l.t.o" because it had raw onion on it which I can not eat. The fries were delicious though and I picked off as much of the small pieces of onion as I could. Otherwise, a decent meal. Would I rave about the place? No. But maybe if I came back with friends and had some drinks, I'd feel differently. Perhaps I will visit again and update this after. read more

Wow.. has this placed really dropped. So sad because I love the fact everything is local and fresh here. My boyfriend and I decided on this place last minute. We had a small wait. Probably around 15 mins. We decided to go to the bar and grab a drink while we waited. Bar tenders were busy but got us our drinks fairly quickly. We were seated at a booth. Our waiter took a little bit to get to us. Finally came by and noticed we had drinks and asked if we wanted water. I said yes and before I could put an order in for an appetizer he walked away. Took awhile to get us our waters. Once the waiter arrived we placed our appetizer order. We ordered the goat cheese spread along with the soup of the day. Not really sure why these appetizers took 12 mins to come out. The waiter forgot my boyfriends beer and seemed very scattered. I understand if a waiter is busy but always communicate to your table. Our appetizers were good but the goat cheese was so hot I burnt my mouth and my fingers. Normally when something is hot the runner or waiter tells you... right? It was sooo hot! Since we were waiting for awhile I went and used the restroom. I walked into a stall the a lady next to me in another stall asked if I could pass her toilet Paper because she didn't have any! Of course I gave her some, but then when we both walked up to the sink there wasn't any paper towels! How unprofessional!? Once we were done we waited quite awhile to talk with our sever to order our meal. We ordered. I ordered the Salmon dish but the waiter said they were all out! Why didn't the waiter tell us this when we were greeted? We ended up ordering the ole smokey burger and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. No complaints on the main meals. They were fantastic. This place has a well-earned reputation. You wouldn't think that there would be such a great (note that I didn't say "fine") dining experience in Westfield, but you would be wrong. The ambiance belies the high level of food served here. It definitely has an industrial "pubby" feel to the space. Sealed concrete floors and a high unfinished ceiling give The Local a converted warehouse vibe. However, the large, framed black & white farm/food photos show that this place is serious to living up to its namesake. Many of the items are sourced locally and there is even a giant blackboard which lists their suppliers and the towns they call home. The menu definitely leans towards gastropub. I ordered the duck confit quesadilla (a market special so get it while it lasts) which was sublime. It leaned towards an Asian preparation with mango-sriracha jam, caramelized shallots with a side of Vietnamese fennel-slaw. Prices are extremely reasonable. Burgers and sandwiches run about $9-12. The entrees go from $11-22. There is a nice mix of Indiana and national craft beers on tap. The limited martini menu also looked pretty enticing. The Local is well-known, but wasn't particularly busy on a Saturday night making this a great place for a casual, yet excellent dinner. Food was good and the restaurant was comfortable. I was here in the middle of the day in the middle of the week and the restaurant was pretty empty. I split the Baked Goat Cheese and Soft Pretzel with the friends I met at the Local. The soft pretzel was fine - nothing special but always a safe choice. It was served with cheese and mustard. The goat cheese was less flavorful than expected and was served with crostinis that didn't have much flavor either. Even though we don't live that far away from The Local, we'd never dined or ordered carry out, as it's away from our normal routes of travel. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. We were ordering carry out for this Friday night and wanted to try something new, so gave The Local a try. I'll say up front I WANTED to like it more than I actually did. I ordered the breaded tenderloin and it was----OK. It didn't appear to be pounded out at all, and in texture and taste it was much more like a breaded pork chop than an actual breaded tenderloin. I can't say with 100% certainty that it was, but it sure seemed like it. The breading was crisp (even after the drive home) and the sandwich was dressed as advertised. I did like the house sauce quite a bit, it was the high point of the sandwich. Not a great sandwich, but not a terrible one either. For my side, I chose tater tots with Cajun seasoning The tots were cooked perfectly---crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The Cajun seasoning was barely noticeable, though, so next time I'll just order plain tots. All in all, a decent, but not stellar experience. Not opposed to going back and trying a burger. read more

If The Local was more local for me, I'd be a regular. I've been dying to try this place after hearing great things from friends and checking out their menu (and prices) online several months ago. As a downtown-dweller I don't venture past 96th street, but after my experience checking out their Northside Nights menu last night, I can safely say that it will be worth the gas money to make the trek back up to The Local sometime soon! (Note: I was fortunate enough to get to dine with a group of Yelp Elites last night! I didn't foot the bill, but I can assure you that I will be back on my own dime in no time.) What I loved: -The beer list was plentiful, but not overwhelmingly so. Something for everyone and lots of local options. -The gnocchi entree on the Northside Nights menu. The portion size was generous but not disgustingly so. It was flavorful and well balanced. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked and covered with a mound of bright green snap peas and asparagus spears covered with a dollop (don't you love that word?!) of goat cheese mousse. (Yes, MOUSSE. Yes, it was heavenly.) This dish was memorable. As in, I want that in my mouth again. :) -The creme brulee with beets and ginger. A generous portion of creamy creme brulee with a crispy top and a beautiful fushia drizzle of beet puree. This was delightful! I couldn't finish it because it was so big, not because I didn't enjoy it! -There were beignets on the menu. I'll sample those next time! What was missing for me: -The salad on the Northside Nights menu didn't wow me. It seemed a little bit bland and disjointed and didn't have any prominent flavors. -Some lower lighting. I went there with a group of friends. Orders were wrong, some of us waited over an hour for their food but that's not even my main review. Some people that RSVP'ed didn't show so our party was 14 instead of 25. Nothing anyone could control. The owner came out and was incredibly rude because our whole party didn't show up. Repeated his anger about it 5 TIMES, as if scolding children. "Don't do this to me again, I had to have a couple extra waiters come in for 25". Ironically he couldn't seem to accommodate 14. He comped our meals which we told him not to do, as if to make us feel guilty. We tipped our waiter/waitress heavily, as if we were still paying for our meals & tipping. If you don't know how to treat your customers, don't get into public service positions. We will all be telling family & friends to never go there. You should be grateful you had a party of 14. Solid spot to go and try new creations. They have a regular menu of sandwiches and salads. They also have a rotating menu that changes every 2 weeks. I had a chicken/pork tenderloin and my wife had the black bean burger. The black bean burger is made in house and she said it was very good. The Cajun tater tots are also a must have. Good selection of local beers on tap and it was nice to see the St. Louis brew Schlafly being poured. The service was superb. I went to try the hand breaded pork tenderloin. It was seasoned nicely and had a good ratio of breading to pork but was more of a pork chop than a pounded tenderloin. It was a good sandwich but not what I think of as a tenderloin in texture. The fries were so over-seasoned that i had to scrape each one before i could eat it and gave up half way through. This used to be a go to place! We tried to support it through the pandemic, but unfortunately the food is just not that good anymore.

I was lured to The Local with promises of fantastic Brussels sprouts. I was not disappointed when they arrived after having been fried and covered in Miso sauce. It was a good sized portion, well worth the $8 dollar price. For my main meal I selected the Chicken Gyro with a side of Cajun-style tater tots. The tots were well prepared, and dusted with tasty Cajun seasoning. The gyro was less impressive, and to be honest the word gyro should not have been used in the description. The meat was simply strips of white meat chicken that you could find on top of a salad in a grocery store, and there really was not any part of the sandwich that stood out as particularly tasty. I really enjoy The Local as I can always find a vegetarian option on the menu. Oh and the tator tots; you can't forget the tator tots. This was probably the seventh time I've eaten here. I usually get the veggie burger but today I noticed that they had a vegetarian pulled "pork" sandwich, made with jackfruit. I really was interested and opted for this instead of my usual (I'm just adventurous like that). It did not disappoint! I thought it was quite good! I've never had jackfruit before and will now order it again. We sat on the patio which we were a little nervous about because it was so hot. But we decided to go ahead and try it (see? Adventurous!). It was great. The umbrellas kept things cool enough to enjoy our lunch without overheating. It may be a tad on the pricey side for what you get but clearly that doesn't bother me enough to stop going to The Local. I thought it would be like a pizza situation, but it kind of came out like a homemade pita chip with olive oil, a few pieces of shredded mozzarella, and sliced salami from the grocery store. The space is awesome and the service was top notch. I judge a restaurant on how the make a fish sandwich. If it's an afterthought, I really stay away. The Walleye Po' Boy was fantastic. Great beer on tap and a huge amount of top shelf bourbons (full bar as well). If I was a local to this area I would be here all of the time. It has such a cool vibe and the food matches it. If you live or work up here, lunch was fast and delicious. Please support places like this that decide to do something different than everyone else. Met a couple of colleagues for a light dinner and drinks. Never been before but came highly recommended by some friends. Met on a Tuesday night and seemed pretty busy for a cold, winter Tuesday night --- good sign! Greeted by a pleasant hostess who made sure I found the table I wanted. Although it was a high top in the bar and uncleaned, she was very accommodating. That was the best of the experience... I was first to arrive followed by one my colleagues and then finally another.. probably took 10 minutes to get our drinks. Perhaps only one server in the bar is not efficient? My colleagues had booth been frequent guests and said I could not go wrong with anything I ordered... I ordered a full size Caesar salad for $8.50 without the $4 plus protein add. I also added a bottle beer for $4.50 and was not offered a glass --- really? My companion ordered a special so we were set! Our orders came up quickly. Unfortunately I spilled a bit of my beer and had to ask for a napkin as it was never offered. My salad was tasty --- but I ordered the full --- cannot imagine the half. Did not have any real cheese on the salad and if I wanted pepper, it was only from the shaker on the table. Really --- I can do better at home. While I am watching my calorie / fat intake I couldn't tell there was any dressing in the salad. After flagging down our server I was able to get a very small additional dressing. The salad was tasty, but nothing that I couldn't do on my own for a fraction of the cost. Truly disappointing, the guest at the table was totally not happy with the flavor, consistency or portion of her entree. It was clear she was not pleased with her order. Finally she asked the server for a menu as she wanted to order something new. After her new order, the old entree stayed on the table until her new order arrived. As our server walked away we asked her to remove the the first entree when the server suddenly said --- you didn't like it? She removed it without an apology or comment. I recently joined some of my Yelp Elite friends for a three course dinner at The Local in celebration of Northside Nights. If you aren't familiar with Northside Nights, it's a 3 course meal for $30 at some of the best restaurants located in fishers, Carmel, Westfield (Indy Metro North). My dinner selections: 1. Roasted Carrot Soup with creme Fraiche, 2. Herb gnocchi with Asparagus, pea, wild mushroom, goat cheese mousse, and smoked beurre blanc 3. Ginger and red beet crème brûlée The verdict: 1. Soup was good, but I can't say I was blown away by it. I found myself looking for some subtle flavor or special ingredient that never quite surfaced and getting food envy when my other companions were happily munching on their salad of mixed endive and radicchio with Almonds, honey ricotta, fricco wafer and sherry garlic Vinaigrette. 2. Herb gnocchi. Holy cow, forget first impressions... this dish is where it's all happening! The gnocchi was cooked absolutely perfectly with just the right balance of flavors. This made my mouth very happy, and I had to reason with my tongue that licking a bowl in public isn't appropriate. 3. Dessert. What to say about the dessert. I saw this on the menu and wondered just how a red beet would play into a crème brûlée, but figured I might as well give it a try. I had hoped I would be bragging to a co-worker of mine, a crème brûlée loving, plate-licking co-worker who was born with a crème brûlée torch in her hand. I'm happy to say that she received pictures before, during and after I destroyed this dish. The red beet was a sweet sauce gently placed on top of the sugar-encrusted sweet ginger crème and made a deliciously marvelous dessert taste ten times better. I really hope this is on the menu on a regular basis, because I'd drive 40 minutes through traffic in the rain just for this. This was my first time to The Local, and I'm so happy that I was able to give it a try. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable about the menu (including the impressive beer menu), and the atmosphere is casual and upbeat. Although not open during my visit, the outdoor patio could be a great place for a late night dessert during the summer, and I believe I'll be putting that to the test once winter finally releases its grip on us Hoosiers! Full disclosure here: I went with several other Yelp Elite members and had a meal on the house as part of the Northside Nights promotion. Considering the prices for comparable items on their menu, I would have felt totally comfortable footing the bill myself. My meal started and ended decently, but the real highlight was the herb gnocchi, with a goat cheese mousse, smoked beurre blanc, and various tasty greens. The way everything combined gave the dish a wonderful depth of flavor that you just don't experience terribly often. The starter salad was certainly nice enough, but not quite on the level of the entree. Same with the dessert - the torte was certainly nice, but the beet and ginger creme brulee looked much tastier. Maybe next time! As an aside, the beer menu was totally decent, with your standard complement of Sun King brews, as well as a really nice barley wine that was extremely mellow, considering how barley wines usually go down. I went with a group of Yelp elites for dinner during North Side Nights week (March 11-24). OMG. AAHHmazing!!! I will be going back to try other things! So, The Local is pretty cool because, get this, they use ingredients that are local (whenever possible). They are currently in the process of obtaining certification for being a "green" restaurant from the Green Restaurant Association. I have no idea exaclty what that is, but they would be the first restaurant in Indiana to be certified, which is also pretty cool and admirable. I know that we don't focus on this stuff in the Midwest, but it is important to use sustainable things when possible and support local biz (and you are supporting local biz directly and indirectly by eating at The Local). Hugs all around. On to the food. First, I had a generous glass of chardonnay! It was a good pour. They also have lots of local beers. I wasn't in a beery mood, tho. I had the salad of mixed endive and radicchio with almonds, honey ricotta, fricco wafer and sherry garlic vinaigrette. I am not always a huge fan of endive and radicchio; I prefer less bitter greens. However, the greens were a great mix with the dressing and cheese. I really love salads and any green besides iceburg, so it's usually all about the dressing for me. I love vinaigrettes, and this one did not disappoint. It was evenly tossed throughout the salad. Very good. For my entree, I branched out and had the herb gnocchi with asparagus, peas, wild mushrooms, goat cheese mousse, and smoked beurre blanc. OMG. Taste bud heaven. I am telling you, it tasted so fresh, and had a smokey delicious flavor. I really don't have words to describe it. Just trust me. I only wish there was more that i could have taken home. Alas, I ate it all. On to dessert. I wasn't horribly excited about the choices for dessert, and our server must have sensed this in my hesitation to choose, so she offered me two other choices. I don't even remember what the last one was, but I opted for the goat cheese cheesecake with raspberry. I have never had goat cheese cheesecake-it was soooo good. (Full disclosure: I was one of the lucky elites that went to the local as part of the northside nights dinner!) I can't profess my love enough for locally and sustainable foods. Unlike many, living in the midwest, I almost expect to find all restaurants that have a direct relationships with farms because we are *literally* right there. So, in that sense, the Local Eatery does not disappoint - they stress locally sourced meats, cheese and when possible vegetables. Situation in a strip mall, it's kinda hard to find if you're not looking for it. Admittedly, I've driven down 146th Street many times without realizing that they were in that complex because they are all the way at the back. The parking lot was pretty full when I arrived, and that was 7ish on a Thursday, so if being busy is a measure of how good the food is - we were off to a good start. The atmosphere was pretty loud, and open. It has a gastropub feel but can still seem intimate. It would make for a very excellent date night, or a casual dinner. Locally sourced meats, cheeses are written on the extremely large chalkboard in the back. The restaurant is lined with beautiful photos, but yet also have large TV sets as well. The food - I had the endive salad, the herb gnocchi and the creme brulee off the north side nights restaurant week menu. I wasn't really blown away by the salad, but the honey ricotta and the fricco wafer were amazing! Then followed the herb gnocchi, which was such a simple constructed dish, with whole wheat gnocchi, asparagus, peas and mushrooms topped every so beautifully with a goat cheese mousse. HEAVEN. Every part of that dish complimented each other beautifully. It was a dance of flavours in my mouth. I did find though, that with the combination of cheese it was slightly a bit too salty for me. The gnocchi was followed by the creme brulee with sweet beet. Wow. Just wow. Our wait staff was pretty attentive, offering suggestions whenever I was hesitant. I'm pretty excited to return to the local, it's no frills food beautifully presented, that is sustainable and healthy. It's a win on all counts. read more

Good concept, bad execution. Went here for date night with my lovely wife. We are veg, and Local offers some promising items on the menu - we opted to share 3 plates: beet salad, street corn salad, and cauliflower fried rice (labeled vegan, but comes with with egg in it). The good - greens on both salads were fresh. Dressing was balanced and the proper amount was used. Flavor for the street corn and accompanying quinoa were ok. Generous amounts of goat cheese with the beet salad. The bad - Everything about the cauliflower fried rice. It was sopping wet with what had to be rice vinegar. There was a hint of ginger, but other than that, the only flavor was vinegar. The peas and carrots were most definitely from a can (the color is a dead give away). The dish looked like brown sauerkraut, and was inedible mush. The beets in the beet salad were also from a can, but that didn't ruin it for me. Beet salad could have used more beets and nuts - 80% of what we received was goat cheese and a massive pile of greens. There was very little corn and quinoa in the street corn salad. Again, very greens-heavy. Flavor was ok, definitely could have benefitted from a bit more lime and spice. Maybe wouldn't have been a factor if there was more of it. I like that Local sources stuff from nearby when they can. I might give them another shot in the future, but there are so many great options popping up in Indy, I can't justify making the trip back any time soon. I would recommend they take the cauliflower fried rice off the menu until they've made some sweeping and pervasive improvements. I would also recommend that they work to feature the namesakes of the various dishes. Beet salads should feature beets, street corn salads should, well, you know. Good luck to all. read more

Wanted to check out The Local when I saw its menu. The Local specializes in local & organic food and they had several non-traditional items that jumped out at me (Frog Legs, Rabbit Pot Pie, etc.) and a variety of burgers (Buffalo, Goat, Elk). Yes you can get a regular beef burger as well. They also have a weekly specials menu, and I wanted to try the Seared Duck Breast since I love duck. I was there for a group event and had some appetizers instead. The best way to sample the restaurant might be to order from the specials menu. The atmosphere has a Modern American and industrial feel, with a lot of TVs and some artwork. Some of TVs were tuned to sports while others had the food and travel channels. This helped break up the monotony quite a bit. The drinks menu includes Indiana draft beers and locally inspired martinis. While the location seems a little far, it's actually only about 10-15 minutes north of the Fashion Mall. If you are shopping on the northside and want to bypass the chain restaurants, make a stop at The Local. read more

Wanted something locally owned while visiting the area. In the last of chains we were in choices were few. This shows a good Yelp rating but underwhelmed would be my one word review. The amount of tots that come out is worth about 99 cents in a different zip code. The quinoa black bean burger had literally zero flavor. Eventually was filling up on the bun that is the visual majority so just had patty. Mine wasn't unlike the one I saw pictured in these photos. It had two very slim pieces of avocado, maybe two finger widths of greens. The child took the bun off the kid burger and expressed disappointment. It was maybe a couple ounces of meat in another big old bun. No veg, no condiments. The sangria was tasty but after the tots I didn't look at the costs and thankfully wasn't paying. It was a lot of ice. Service sucked. We were jovial people, there's professional salespersons at the table, but she simply didn't act like she wanted to be there. Did not ask how things were, could she get anything (so we could have asked for lettuce and tomato for kids burger), etc. In summary, I won't go back and you should carefully evaluate what you're seeking before dining here. Guaranteed four star experience it is not. read more

We went to The Local on a Wednesday evening to talk to a friend about starting a supper club at his family's farm. This was my second visit to Craig Baker's neighborhood dining spot north of Indianapolis. We sat at the bar and our bartender come over and introduced herself and offered us menus. She was very knowledgeable of the craft cocktail menu. I had a very well balanced gin and tonic with artisan distilled. Moody June gin and Q Tonic. It was very herbal and aromatic while still being perfectly dry. Very refreshing. For my meal I chose one of the sustainable options from the market special section of the menu. Three huge char grilled tiger prawns were perched on top of cauliflower, sweet potato, and chickpeas, tossed in curry squash puree and sprinkled with crisp toasted coconut flakes. It was all the satisfying flavors you would want in a spicy coconut perfumed curry, only lighter and fresher. Doug had the chicken gyro with mac and cheese. The foil wrapped pita was filled with a generous portion of grilled chicken, tomato, onion, feta cheese, cucumbers, and tatziki sauce. The chicken was missing salt and was also a little on the dry side. Gooey and creamy cheddar cheese sauce over cavatappi pasta, dotted with large bacon lardons made Doug forget about the chicken. He inhaled the Mac and cheese. For dessert I had a grapefruit and basil martini that was not too sweet. Fresh citrus juice infused with licoricey basil made for a nice contrast after a spicy curry. The service was excellent even when the bar and dining room were packed full. Our drinks were well balanced, served cold and fast. The food was flavorful and beautifully plated. Matt Strum has done a good job of selecting innovative specials to support the typical assortment of casual crowd pleasers that round out the menu at the Local. If we lived closer we would visit more often. read more

What I liked about this place is the ever-changing menu, and the farm-to-table approach. We came at 6pm in the middle of the week, and our overall experience was very good. Service was professional and prompt. And, my drink never ran dry. That's a minor point, but it's a huge annoyance when restaurants don't get it right and ignore you. We'll be back. read more

I love the idea of this place, the menu looks great, the wine list is good, and the people I ate with seemed to like their food okay - that's why there are two stars instead of one. However, my meal was just gross. I ordered the sweet potato grilled cheese, which sounded awesome because sweet potatoes and goat cheese are two of my favorite ingredients and I've never had them together in sandwich form. but when I bit into the sandwich, the sweet potato was raw. I'm not exaggerating... it was only heated through and had a raw crunch to it. It was just gross. I just picked the potato off and ate the bread and cheese. I did really like the caesar salad... it was well dressed and probably my favorite part of the meal. The beignets were good but not mind-blowing. Man. I think a cook really dropped the ball. Normally I may have said something in this kind of extreme case, I was just trying to have a good time with coworkers and didn't want to make a big thing of complaining. I went back later and checked the menu - it does say "roasted" sweet potatoes, not raw (I thought maybe I was imagining things). Won't be going back, sadly. read more

Made reservations on Open Table. It was 9 pm so they weren't really busy in the dining room side. Excellent tater tots for our appetizer. I ordered Linguine Al Lemon with shrimp. It was good but almost too garlicky. Shrimp was perfectly cooked. Plain Jane burger ordered very plain, just cheese and mayo. Burger very good and the side of mac n cheese excellent. Our server was perfect. Friendly and there with refill after refill of tea. read more

Visited The Local tonight for a Valentines dinner with my wife and daughter. The food and service were both outstanding. I enjoyed the surf and turf special and the steak was cooked beautifully and all sides were on point. My wife had the ultimate burger and it too was very good. We had the most delightful server. I wish I had gotten her name. We ended the evening with the pineapple bread pudding and we scraped the bowl clean! Outstanding job! read more

(Disclosure: I was one of the lucky night owls that got to attend this free Yelp Elite dinner at the Local Eatery & Pub a few weeks ago. Insomnia pays!) The $30 dinner per person menu was part of the North-side Nights that ran from Mar. 11-24 (BRING IT BACK!). I chose the endive and radicchio salad as my starter. It's a salad, so how spectacular can it really be? Let me tell you, the honey ricotta was what made the salad oh SO tasty. My favorite part of the meal (other than the great company!) was the main course, which was herb gnocchi w/ asparagus, pea, wild mushroom, HUGE dollop of goat cheese mousse (nom, nom, nom), and smoked beurre blanc. This was actually the first time I've ever had gnocchi and I swear I could eat this everyday. For dessert I HAD to try the ginger & red beet crème brulee. I thought it was a strange combination on paper, but my taste buds were extremely happy. Loved the simple, clean décor, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I will definitely be making a trek back up there (they have beignets!) to try some of there other goodies. Quick shout out to Yelpers that night: you guys are so awesome!
