I experienced my first time at Local Honey and I was quite pleased with their immaculate service. They tend to your every need and desire and my time spent there was extremely pleasurable. They don't accept walk ins unless they have people available which is very rare so be sure to make an appointment, weeks in advance. Also, they serve you wine (option of white or red) which is very nice! For your pedicure, they use jelly instead of water which feels absolutely amazing on your toes and makes them super soft and their massages are amazing as well. This is probably the best gel mani I've ever gotten! See the picture attached for what it looked like after 2 weeks, which was totally perfect. Yang was extremely detailed and professional, and shaped my nails exactly how I like them. The polish has great wear but the manicure itself was so good that even 3 weeks later, I only have a few small chips at the base and it looks mostly perfect. My first few times here were fine. Unfortunately, the past few times were not. I really wanted to like this place because its in my neighborhood and the space is beautiful. My original tech wasn't available on the day of my appointment. Fine. Things happen. The tech I had cut my thumb so bad it wouldn't stop bleeding for most of the manicure. There was also a bubble and a huge spot on my pointer finger that she missed. Not a big deal. I don't like to be a diva about these things. However, when the nails started chipping not even two days later I wasn't impressed. The "quickie" "gel" manicures are a joke. Over 30$ for a "gel manicure" that doesn't last more then several days. The point in spending a little extra on a "gel" manicure is that they are supposed to last longer? The second day I had them they started to chip. I emailed them when I returned home for the weekend and the owner told me they are guaranteed for 5 days. She said I could come to have them fixed but never responded when I asked when. Within a week of having them done the only remaining part with nail polish are the tips. My pedicure is also chipping within the week. I'm extremely disappointed. I hate to knock a local small business but for the prices they charge I can't even believe the lack of quality. I don't even think the nail polish that they use is waterproof. Also, if you purchase a "quickie" manicure you get an extremely limited selection of polish to pick from which I also find to be absolutely absurd for the price. Oyeeeeee. Okay I went back on the owners recommendation and while the treatment was fantastic- the truth is their products just aren't. They use some seaweed gel base and topcoat and it honestly lasts a very short period of time. Got them done Thursday and today (Monday) one nail is broken and two are peeling. Just not typical of gel. It's their "healthy" route but honestly is just ineffective. It's a soft gel- and you can literally "peel" it off. Or your daily life will. Won't be returning. read more

I keep it simple, classic mani & pedi (no gel or tips & whatnot) should be the easiest client of the day I walked out yesterday evening, one day later, my nails are already chipped. My technician was very sweet, but I shouldn't have to ask anyone to file my nails evenly, or remove all cuticles/ dead skin. You can't paint over crooked or snagging nails, right? I came in for a pedicure and it was an all around wonderful experience! They have you pay ahead to ensure as contactless an environment as possible. The space was clean and calming, and they space out the pedicures so you're not close to anyone else. It's also just such a cute and happy space, always an added bonus! I never go to this salon despite it being near my home because the first time I went years ago, they were rude. Today, I made an appointment where I was pre-charged $200 for a gel pedi and gel x extensions. Very high price, but I sucked it up for the convenience. I was running 5 minutes behind and called to let them know, the receptionist said if I was late they could not take me because they had back to back appointments. I told her I was literally walking up. I ended up being 3 minutes late. The nail technician took me. Once we got to the polish, I asked for a french tip. She said she couldn't give me a french tip because she had another appointment right after and I could only get a solid color polish. I was annoyed but, whatever. After she finished I proceeded to wait 15 minutes for someone to do my pedicure. In that same 15 minutes, the nail tech who was too busy to give me a 5-minute grace period or a simple french tip, sat on her phone and did nothing. On the way out she said they take tip cash or zelle. I declined to tip given the terrible service and she gave me the most disgusting look and told me to leave. I should not have gone back. DO NOT GO HERE. So basically I paid $200 for shitty service and not what I asked for. read more

I'm looking for a new mani/pedi spot. I already know I will try this place again. I really liked just about everything about this spot. It seemed clean, and it was pretty quiet. They offer you wine, which I declined. There was an extremely obnoxious woman talking loudly on her cell phone the whole time, but it's not their fault. She's adult enough to know better. The soak they use is pretty interesting. It's a purple/ lavender color. It turns into the texture of viscose oatmeal, and then back to water. Whatever it is- it's effective! My feet actually felt softer. I don't have very rough feet so these treatments usually don't make much of a difference. The technician was pretty nice, and did a great job soaking off my previous gel mani. I hate it whenever the technician files my nails to get it off. She didn't have to do that this time- she soaked it twice and it scraped right off, easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy. The problem with the mane/pedi is their nail polish. I chose a very neutral color, but the nail polish was pretty old or something, because I have air bubbles on each and every single one of my nails. I like to look and admire nails after a mani well-done and recall more relaxing times. Looking at these air bubbles nails actually detracted from the experience. Maybe Local Honey needs to update their nail polish stock. It seems like a silly thing to hold back on. I had to take off the nail polish myself at home and redo my nails. Oh well. We'll try it again and see if it's a better polish job next time. Everything else, great. Actually nail polish job- not so much. read more

I used to love this place! I am beyond disappointed and will never be returning. I canceled my appointment on the day that it was scheduled, I was was feeling ill and was concerned about the health of their staff/ other clients. I even accepted the terms of their cancellation policy which is a 50% fee with no hassle and they have yet to refund me the difference. It's been three days now of back and forth to no avail. Found out about this place by googling "best cheap nail salon nyc" and this place came up on a TimeOut listing. Got the happy hour special $35 with an add-on gel for my mani +$20. Ended up being about $61 including tax but used the Yelp offer to get 10%. So I got a full Honey Gel mani and full Royal Jelly pedi for $56 excluding tip (which is cash only btw)! What a deal. Only downside is it's super far from where I live in Manhattan. Only tried it out because I was in the Brooklyn area, but so far I'm satisfied. The place was not the super upkeep cleanest, modern, or bougie, but I think the laidback vibe might have been what they're going for? In any case, that would be the only improvement I would definitely suggest - the decor. Also maybe adding outlets / charging ports next to stations. And the foot area for the pedis was a bit rundown too like the surface was coming off of some of the corners. We've experimented with a couple different looks, most recently red ombre nails - which turned out awesome! They've recently incorporated CBD Oil into their products and services and it really elevates the experience. They have CBD Caramels that are the BOMB. I love this place! I like to try and keep my nails up and after living in BK for about 7 months, this will be my go to place. I tried out a few places and did a test between my 2 favorite. I got a shellac manicure from here and it lasted for the full 2 weeks and got so many compliments on how good my nails look even after 2 weeks. I then went to another place in Williamsburg (about the same price) and it lasted just a little over a week and did not look good at all by the end. Pros: I come here often because I live nearby and it is convenient. I really enjoy Manju as my nail technician because she is super sweet and is meticulous with my nails. Good Interior design. Cons: At my first visit, I was turned down for nail art design because I didn't enter it in the system when I booked the appointment. My different nail tech bluntly told me to enter it next time because they were full of customers. She was defensive and kept repeating that I needed to enter it in the system. No biggie, I'll enter it next time. Last week, I came into an appointment requesting a nail art design a day before sending a similar design they posted on their instagram which I thought they could do. I came in and the receptionist told me that the photo was taken off pintrest and not done in the store. They could not do my design and I had to book an appointment with a different technician on a weekday. I told them I was pretty upset because I wish they would have just let me know instead of me canceling other appointments to make it in. They apologized and said they will take the photo down. Gave the benefit of the doubt, I was already there and canceled my other plans I thought I might as well just get my nails done..... Perhaps the owner didn't fully read my review.I have no clue what she read because that is not what happened or what I wrote. I arrived to my appointment ON TIME. Your technicians started my service late. I clearly wrote that I wrote I got there at "3pm and the service started at 3:18 pm" very clearly. I also pointed out that wasn't a big problem because I wanted my mother's nails to be done properly (she arrived before her appointment time). I inquired (NOT REQUESTED) about wine as an option based on previous yelp reviews, not champagne. I also NEVER MESSED UP MY NAILS WHILE DRYING, so I am unsure why you would write "kept messing it up the polish while drying". Your nail tech messed it my nail when she moved the fan under the bar and sloppy just put paint on it unevenly. Then when i pointed it out the lady who did my pedicure repainted it. I am unsure of what you mean by what you are referring to in your response. I clearly articulated what occurred in my review. I am aware that it is a nail salon and this tone is very unbecoming and unnecessary. To make me happier the nails could have been painted evenly (the pictures of the result are shown). I really wanted to like this place bc I love a boujie moment...but turns out it's just gentrified garbage that stole The Hoodwitch's aesthetic. (Look her up & support her instead.) I've been a handful of times before I gave up I believe in chances. Here's the breakdown of each visit. 1. Express Gel Manicure: Nail tech was sweet, but very limited color selection. After 2 days the gel started lifting off. They fixed it and it lasted for another week before chipping & peeling off. 2. Jelly Pedicure: Basically they're charging extra for this cheap jelly stuff that literally any hood spot will add to your pedicure for $5. I asked the tech if the basins are sanitized, she said they are. Had to argue with her a bit to get her to use a clean file on my toes, ew, and she threw my used one back with the "clean" ones after. Also, saw her literally just rinse the basin with water and replace it when I finished...gross. 3. French Gel Manicure: Ok this time was BAD! I was placed with a "nail art specialist" for a French mani....I understand a little extra charge but in what world Is that nail art? I agreed though because I figured it would be flawless. Got there and the nail tech had WILD attitude from the jump, really not sure why, but it was super uncomfortable. Told her what I wanted, a simple & clean French mani, and we got started. She finished quickly and after I gave a few edits along the way....it wasn't perfect but I was really over her energy. Tipped well bc I always do, then on my walk home I took off my glove to text & notice one of them isn't even painted all the way to the tip, so I go back to get it fixed. She's outside smoking. Comes back in & without even washing her hands starts filing down the part she didn't paint correctly, instead of repainting it properly. I was honestly amazed at how rude and unprofessional she was. I got home and I was not happy. Started looking at the nails and finding more and more mistakes, from uneven design to horrible nail shaping, so I emailed the owner & he told me to come back in. The owner put me with a really sweet woman who was not capable of doing a French manicure & does not charge as much, instead of having the other nail art pro with the equivalent pricing correct the manicure. He ended up accusing me of using them for a free service because I wasn't happy with the quality of the work...but I paid $72 for the mediocre manicure the day before, so I wasn't getting anything for free. He ended up threatening to kick me out & losing control over his emotions, essentially throwing a little fit, cutting me off mid sentence constantly and refusing to solve the problem at all & making the situation super weird for me and the nail tech as well. I honestly was laughing because I couldn't believe what was going on. Anyways moral of the story is, stick with your local hood spot. Not this fake "local" business that's ripping off aesthetics and selling palo santo & crystals under the name of being "witchy" because it's trendy. It's not even sanitary. The technician I went to here most recently gave me probably the most thorough and detailed manicure of my life, the results are amazing! However I'm not giving 5 stars because she kept getting extremely frustrated if my hands weren't in the exact position she wanted them in, she kept moving them constantly and glaring at me when I didn't have them in the right position. Went for my first Local Honey manicure today and as much as I love how my manicure came out, the person that did it treated me poorly. I have a bit of a hard time maneuvering my hands, as well as trying to keep "relaxed". The woman that did my nails was extremely impatient. Whenever my hand wasn't in the right position, she would move it at shake her head, as if I was some kind of disappointment. This made me feel so uncomfortable. Also, I felt kind of judged by this person because I wasn't a regular at the salon and I came in looking disheveled from the rain. Although it's not a huge deal, I was not offered anything to drink like some of the amazing reviews I read said. Awwwwwww man! What can I say? Today's experience was not anything I would want to experience again. I made an appointment for a wax at 1:25. She was busy attending another client. I decided to get a classic gel manicure! What a disaster?! I ended up with no wax and a quickie manicure that I did not enjoy. Please go with experienced technicians. Do not allow reception to choose a person for you. I used to come here and I loved this place but today was a complete turn off for a manicure. Hopefully, my wax goes well. I went back to the salon the next day and they provided me a complimentary wax and manicure. The manicure from that day chipped in a matter of hours. All I can say is a love the wax. However, when the technicians remove the gel they are rough on the nail bed which makes the nail weak. The last manicure resulted in my nails cracking. I also asked the technician for a design she said no because she has more appointments. For me wax yes and manicure not for me. No flexibility in working with the client or maybe because it was complimentary they assumed I wouldn't tip so why give her what she wants. I really wanted to like this place. It's cute and close to where I live so I made an appointment to get a gel mani done on a Thursday afternoon. I was really excited because I'd never experienced gel and was looking forward to having cute nails that lasted for longer than a normal manicure. The service was fine, everyone was kind and the tools were sterile. The gel mani looked nice when I left the salon but one nail chipped later that night and the day after multiple nails had chipped. Four days later, more than half of my nails were chipped. If this were a normal manicure, I'd be like "fine, whatever." But I paid $40 plus a $10 tip to get gel that wasn't supposed to do this so quickly.
