We were customers for several years. The staff was friendly and above all competent. In mid 2022 the service level took a nosedive, the staff turned over with all the competent people gone and then as a reward they nearly tripled the price. At the beginning of 2024 we moved to Aloha mail on the next block next to Foodland and except for the limited hours of service and labyrinthine parking lot have been completely satisfied with much better price. Changing your mailing address when using a CMRA is an epic task but it was definitely worth it. read more

We have been with this place since we moved here almost 7.5 years ago. It was great when we first started with them. We got our mail on time and they seemed to be very organized and the staff was friendly. But lately, the service has been terrible! It takes us sometimes over a week to get packages that have been received by them because they are so overcrowded. The place looks like a mess and nobody seems to know what is going on in there. Waiting another week after waiting for the regular shipping time is unreasonable to me. I can understand having to wait a day for them to check it in maybe even two days since it's Christmas time but a week? We will be moving to a different option for our mail and packages. The only good thing I can say is that the staff is nice as they tell you that they don't have your package ready. read more

Seems to be an outdated system, their building is too small for the service they offer. They have so many packages come in and not fully organized. Long lines and wait time. The lines are long because the employees are running circles trying to find where your package is.... If they can find it. If they can't, you're basically out of luck. Your issues go nowhere. While in line you heard them say, sorry we'll call you when we find your package. You always praise god when they find your package. read more

Ive been with this company since 2016. Customer service is always great, super friendly. Most of the staff know me by name. The wait is less than USPS. Paying for a private box allowed a lot more shipping options than USPS ( many companies wont deliver to a PO box). You can sign up for email notifications when packages come in ( which is always prompt). Highly recommended!! read more

This place was great. For a bit. Nice staff and fast service have been lost in MASSIVE STAFFING TURNOVERS. New staff are young and not trained very well. Lost several packages this year. Local Local Mail, LLC of Kea`au, Hawai`i has had a continual overturn of both management and staff over the last three years and service has gotten steadily worse. Packages are regularly delivered there and lost for weeks to months at a time. Tracking showing delivery to their location is described as having been "scanned before delivery" by the USPS/UPS/FedEx - flat-out lies, as the tracking includes GPS and timestamp at their back door. For the last four months, there have 2-5 of my packages missing EVERY TIME. If some eventually show up, then they lose others. Last night, I received 5 notices of packages having been checked in. I have nine outstanding tracking numbers that show having been delivered that I have not received. Today, they could only find 3 of my 9 missing packages. This business has ONE FUNCTION. Accept my mail and give it to me when I show up. They have CONSISTENTLY FAILED to not only perform their sole function, there is no explanation or recourse. AVOID THIS BUSINESS. read more

I've been with this company for a few years. I haven't had any issues with the workers just some of the customers. What people aren't understanding is this is a PRIVATE mail and ship business, they are NOT USPS. The holiday season is the worst. A lot of impatient, rude and obnoxious customers. The people that work there really try their hardest to help the customers as much as possible. As I said to one customer, if you don't like it, then leave. The reason I'm giving this establishment 2 stars is due to the recent change in management. I've been receiving my mail here since 2017 and have never had any issues. The staff has been welcoming, understanding, fun and timely. However, as of late I know there has been some changes and new faces. The new team seems to be rather clueless, scattered and inexperienced. With so many bodies "working" at once you'd think they'd be more on top of things. I had a package stating online it had been "delivered" and I had to go back 3 days in a row because they hadn't yet sorted or checked it in. The whole place, let alone it's employees, have transitioned into one disorganized mess. This is my second review. Call it a follow up. I've been getting my mail at Local Local for about 18 months now, and in that time it's gone from 5 to 3 stars. Some employees are wonderful and others act like they preferred you drop dead than help you. At Christmas I even had to get my own packages from a makeshift shelf well above my head, with packages stacked up every which way around it. I had to squeeze between boxes and stand on my tip toes to reach them while the employee sat behind a counter 3 feet away, talk about a liability issue. I have been given packages addressed to other people twice. Luckily I'm honest and take them back, so now I always check my mail thoroughly before I leave. Mistakes happen, but the rudeness and laziness is unacceptable, especially for what they're charging per month. Why stay you ask? Well in Puna it's slim pickens where to get your mail, especially when your subdivision doesn't have street mail service and not enough boxes to serve their landowners. The USPS boxes are full and Hilo is a long drive to pick up your mail, which is probably how they get away with acting like they sometimes do. I'm bummed to reduce stars. Been a customer for 6 years and mostly it has been great, but lately the service has been unbelievably bad. I waited 40 minutes in line to receive someone else's package. It takes them 2+ days to check in a package. The rates have gone way up, they have cut hours when open way back and now they are returning mail if it doesn't have the complete box number. It was worth it to pay for the service, but now I think I'd rather deal with the post office. read more

A pleasure to do business with! Friendly, they know you by name and most of the staff know my mailbox number too. That is very helpful because my package is often waiting at the counter for me when my turn comes. And the wait times are usually very little to get to the counter. They provide a variety of services and really do try to do all they can to help. I get a lot of packages and I have never had a bad experience here. A very welcome alternative! read more

I did not receive notice of packages delivered 1-2 weeks ago. Learned today when picking things up, there is a policy change and customer's will no longer be notified when they have packages. I would have appreciated knowing about the change and confused as to how one would know they had a package if it is unexpected. However, the staff today was able e to find my packages and were pleasant to deal with. Given the need in our community to have this service, I hope that the difficulties the management is having will be addressed. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! Easily the worst run business on Hawaii island! In the last 6 months they've lost 8 packages of mine! And don't question them about there poor service because they don't care! They lie straight to you face about lost mail! They no longer send email reminders, so the only way you know if package is ready for pick up is to call them , oh and good luck if they even pick up the phone! Many of my packages are tracked this this mail center where they mysteriously disappear! If your lucky your package will be ready to pickup a week after it gets there! So many last packages it's hard to keep track, I have been given other people's packages several times and also mail, it used to take one day to check in your packages but now take several days if you're lucky, unfortunately I paid for the entire year, but can no longer trust their services. Also, they randomly close without notice and often have problems with their systems, the amount of time I've had to spend on the phone with Amazon disputing many packages is really adding up, and then, because they don't answer their phone I often drive a pretty far round-trip just to find them closed early or not open that day because something came up. Disaster has struck. I think I may be in an abusive relationship. It didn't start this way ... I'm not sure what type of plague swept through Keaau Mail and Ship and claimed the lives of the competent, but I do know that the disorganized children that have been left in it's wake are no match for the demands of professional mail delivery. The real phenomenon is the special way they deliver their unique brand of incompetence. Imagine how much contempt for you they must harbor if, as you're again in a line stretching out the door waiting to get half your mail and an excuse just like last week, you read a passive aggressive poorly worded sign which explains that customer complaints are causing issues. What!? Did you think we wouldn't notice that we didn't get our mail? Unbelievable and unaccountable. There are SO many ways to address your issues (hire more or more qualified staff, develop better organizational skill, hire folks to come in and stock/organize after hours or overnight, charge more or take less customers) that don't blame us. I'm not sure what you would like us to do differently. I will say there is some joy in it, kinda like watching a bad movie. I've developed some comradery with my fellow stranded mail recipients which is pleasant. Also, the scramble and confusion that asking for your mail incites reminds me of watching 8 year olds play soccer, if they were drunk and of a particular intellectual class that required them to wear helmets. Overall, if possible, I suggest having your mail delivered steam ship or perhaps carrier pigeon. Much easier. read more

I had a very bizarre experience here on 7/9/22 when going in to send a fedex package with a label emailed to me from Hawaii Telecom to return my modem. My email from fedex said a fed ex store would print label for me but this store in keaau could not, nor do they have small boxes or any boxes on hand to ship- even at customer cost. They told me to use a priority usps flat rate box to send fed ex. The most disturbing part of my visit is that a young lady appearing to work there behind counter was holding a toddler child close to register keyboard behind counter while the toddler played with the keyboard then another lady working there behind the register came over and smacked/flicked the toddler in the head for playing with the keyboard which the child was encouraged to do. The third woman working there behind the counter did not seem to notice or care. I am I offended by this unprofessional, cruel, barbaric behavior in a local business. This place is Highway robbery as far as the price one pays for their mailbox service. They charge a setup fee, key deposit plus about $30 a month. Picking up packages is only during business hours. Yesterday I showed up at 4:29 pm to get my packages and they refused to release them to me. I work Monday through Friday from 730 am to 4 pm meaning that I can only get packages on the weekends. Poor customer service in my case. They were actually gleeful to refuse to give me my packages. I will not remain a customer any longer. There are other options in Hawaii-. Local Local Mail has changed for the better, I've been a customer for 8 plus years. It has had its ups and downs but currently has a great staff, and they are doing a very good job. It's a difficult job to say the least. With regular mail, plus packages from UPS and FEDEX, the staff are busy. They are friendly, helpful and do everything they can to process all the incoming and outgoing mail. From personal experience the biggest problem are customers not being prepared, no money, outgoing packages not packaged properly, forgetting mail box keys, no identification, the list goes on. I used to praise the staff here for their excellent service, but things are not the same. I have had several items not received even tho the sender has evidence of delivery to the location. I recently stopped by and asked if my renewal was due and was told it would not be due for a couple of weeks but I shouldn't worry because I would receive a reminder email. Today I was told my service had expired. When I went to pay, I was charged a late fee, even tho I did not receive an email because the store had a wrong address, despite having the correct address for package notifications. The manager there, Shay I believe is her name is not customer service friendly. I have seen her be short and rude with other customers in the past. This time she was rude to me. When I asked for the owners #, she said she didn't know it. I did tell her that I understand that they have to do their job, however I had something delivered and really needed it. I heard her tell the other worker who was very polite, that we can't stress out for one customer as she was smoking her cigarette. I left and 15 minutes later, I get a call from her stating that they found my item and that she would no longer be servicing me in the future?????? WTH. So, living in Puna District you have 2 options for mail. 1. General Delivery while you're on a waiting list for a USPS Box or 2. Rent a box here. Been renting a box 4-5 years no problem until last year. The latest Management (actually only 1 person is the issue), I don't even go inside anymore. I ordered 2 similar items so he coild see them and just return the one he didnt want. He originally tried to return through an office in Hilo, but they told him that no one on that side of the island did Amazon returns. This place was actually the first place that popped up on the Amazon site so I called. Jackie was so knowledgable about the Amazon return process and assisted my dad with the return later. If you need to do an Amazon return, this is your place!!! I dont live there, but if I did, I would probably be coming here for all my shipping needs. So I've been a customer of this private mail facility since the summer of 2015 and usually get my packages the day they are delivered or at the latest the next day. In the past 6 to 7 months my packages are being delivered by the carrier but I won't receive my packages or get notification that my packages are ready for pickup anywhere from 3 to 7 days later. When I asked the front desk clerk I just got the runaround with the answer being it's the carrier's fault not theirs. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and she did the same but with attitude as if my questions weren't valid. Her excuse was more people are shopping online but I remember during the height of COVID when everyone was actually shopping online I would literally get my packages the day they were delivered by the carrier. I believe that there is a direct correlation in processing with the change in staff. They are very unorganized and rude when asked questions they do not like. If they want to keep customers they need to learn how to operate their business and know how to interact with their customers. I am currently still a customer out of necessity, once I can get a P.O. Box I will cancel my box with this company! I suggest anyone thinking about getting a box at local local should not unless it is their only option! read more

Over the last 6 months this business has become a disaster. It's now complete chaos. I have had a box here for 12 years (even before the current owner). It's been pretty efficient until a new manager was hired this year. During the last four months, the average wait time for a delivered package is 7 days (sometimes longer). Of course, USPS and Amazon notify me when a package is delivered and signed for by Local Local Mail & Ship. So I know when the package arrives. I'll usually wait 2 days until I attempt to pick it up, but it's NEVER ready. As a rule, a package delivered to this place on a Monday might be ready to pick up the following Monday. Lines are now 15 to 20 minutes long because the employees can't find anything. Customers leave pissed off. In October, they lost a package of medicine that I had to pay to replace. They never offered me any compensation at all. It's so sad because they used to have good managers and now it's run like a nut house. I can't believe I'm stupid enough to pay them $400 a year to lose packages, wait in long lines, and receive my packages a week after they are delivered. read more

The real problems occur when I finally got a real address and wanted my mail forwarded Then they charged me everytime I went to get the occasional pieces that slipped thru the cracks. Okay now it is several years later and I had an elderly aunt send a package to old address and called me to tell me of mistake. I called LocalLocal to see what they could do. I gave them my name. Person on phone quickly found my old account on their computer Told me to get tracking number so I did. USPO delivered to Local Local yesterday (Saturday). I was notified via text by USPO. I went to Local Local at 130 pm to pick it up. They had already sent it back as addressee unknown and post office closed. I told the woman I had called. I was with these guys for 8 years. I watched it go from excellent to steadily making a turn for the worst. Btw, any 5 star review that you read with the names Kristen or Jackie, they've been long gone for at least 5 years now. So the good service they use to offer has ceased since then. In April of this year, they doubled their prices! And they didn't even give us a courtesy notice to let us know. I found out the prices were going up with 2 weeks notice by being sent a due payment invoice. For 1 month, the price went from $32.25 to $62.75! That is ridiculous and unreasonable! Especially for a business that is extremely unprofessional. Last year they lost 2 of my packages. They didn't apologize or take any sort of responsibility. These people do not care! So when I saw they were doubling their prices, I left right away. Thank god I did! I'm now at Aloha Mail and pay $34 a month and their service is like night and day in comparison to these guys.
