Local Public Eatery @ Kitsilano right across from the world famous Kitsilano Beach, is hugely popular amongst locals & then out of towners - in that order. You could tell by the crowd on this past Saturday. The host & wait staff were outstanding - great customer service & interaction. Our group sat on the patio on this beautiful afternoon. The food was excellent & we were all very satisfied with our orders. Please see my pix. You never know what you'll get with bar food, but here at Local - it's very good. The view from the patio is second to none, especially when you are situated right at Kitsilano Beach. Ok. This is from my perspective. To some....I'm a little picky.....but here's what I observed. The menus were dirty, sticky and not wiped...so honestly I was trying to grab it around the corners....yeah not a great start....you know...the whole hygiene thing... The water was stale with no ice, barely cold in a marginal clean water-stained glass. Didn't want to drink it even when I was thirsty. (see pic.) The House Lager. I can't even say it was unimpressive....because it was not trying to impress. Below average. Yes. Even for a House Lager. The Diablo Burger. Dry patty with no depth. Too much sauce. Stale Bun. Really all the "Don'ts" in Burger Art. After the first bite and a half, I couldn't eat it anymore simply because it fell apart. I wasn't about to tackle it with my fork. Imagine eating a burger with a fork....it's just the principle of the thing. Left still hungry. The Steak and Fries. Truthfully. It was just Ok. The steak was cold and the whole dish not worth the price. Service. Just seemed like she couldn't be bothered. Came around when she wanted to. Forgot our beers when we first arrived. Had to chase her for service. Sometimes, I ask myself ....am I being too harsh? But, let me ask you something. Went during their happy hour and drinks are pretty well priced! I got the spicy guava margarita and one of the espresso mar-tiny shots, highly reccomend the shots! Service was really good, staff are always checking on you and have a great friendly attitude. Will return for their HH food menu! read more

Woke up late on a sunday and still shaking off the symptoms of my 2nd covid shot, but felt way better. Didnt really feel like cooking so we thought, Since we needed to get an errand done jn kits, might as well go for a really late. Always wanted to try local, as its usually packed with people every time i drive by. Had to wait for like 5-10mins for a table, but no big deal. The weather was awesome and the drinks were cold. From what ive noticed, and this was around 230pm....most of the tables were either ordering brunch fare still or just nursing a drink and some nachos. Anyhow, ordered the fish tacos and their braised beef and bacon hash! Had to have a cold beer tor me and a cocktail for the wife too. My braised beef was awesome. The beef was tender and succulent. The potatoes were seasoned and done well. The bacon was smoky and a bit crispy and completed the beef well. I just wish the quantity was increased, as it didn't reflect the value. The fish tacos were the let down here. Sure it came with a kickass garlic aioli mayo dip, but the actual fish was bland, not crispy but soggy, and the tortilla wrap not even toasted. Under seasoned for sure. We were also given a choice for sides, we picked yam fries, but were never told it was extra $$$. What i didnt particularly enjoy was the feeling of being rushed. Every 2 bites, server would come and ask Me if she could clear anything. I mean, im still eating! Our water pitcher was already hot from The sun, and she never even bothered to change it with a new one. but hey, she kept on pestering us to order more booze tho. We havent been sitting for 30mins and we were being rushed to get it done and over it. Cant we sit for a conco and relax for a bit? I dont get it. There were tons of tables around. I also noticed that several tables with groups of 4 or more, wherein they were only nursing a drink and a plate of fries or nachos were not being rushed at all. They were seated after us but were still there holding on to their drinks and server was letting them have at it. No plus factor here. Food is average and service sucks! The only time it was efficient was when it time came to pay. Would never go back. There are far too many choices in kits which allows you to just enjoy a slow and leisurely brunch without being rushed. Cheers! Happy eating! read more

I just sat down and multiple things already made it good. Host sat me down immediately outside on a gorgeous fall day with leaves falling everywhere and the best colors. The location right opposite the park and beach was perfect. I had the Korean bbq bowl and it was tasty with quite a bit of spice (hot!) and I'd recommend the sauce on the side if spicy isn't your thing. Great place to grab a drink and snack around Kits. I went on a Tuesday, and it was surprisingly busy. I really like the fact that it opens late unlike the rest of Vancouver. Despite the place being busy and loud, my date and I were still able to have a conversation and didn't have to yell out what we were saying. With that said, it's also a great first-date place. Our waitress was excellent - checked on us multiple times and came to refill our drinks before they were officially done. I gave this place 4 stars because the food did not deliver like every other aspect. I had LOCAL in Toronto a few times and their fish tacos were always big and delicious. This time, the fish was drowned out by the plentiful cabbage and pico de gayo - I didn't taste the fish at all. As well, the fries were very salty I got Spanish sangria and it was delicious! Can't go wrong with that selection - 3oz for only $9 and the glass that it's served in is quite big. In general, I would go here again for drinks and hangout but I would think twice before ordering fish tacos again read more

The name makes you think they serve food, it's more of a liquid food place, but with a very good atmosphere. I have not been here ever since this place was Malone's and I was liking how they have revitalized the place. Big LCD television's all on sports, big booths for groups, and the place was not too cramped. Add to all of the above the price for a pint of beer (usually $5.50), and this place is a good place to just have a drink. The place is definately situated on prime realestate, right on the corner across from Kits beach, on beautiful sunny days, and primetime don't expect to find seats. Also even at the time I was there, which was about midnight, it was pretty loud, so if your looking for a place to talk, go to the other places. Update on my recent visit. Local has new menus and they aren't paper yay!! Actually the menu has changed as well, but mostly things just got more expensive. Mystery wine is now $5.50. I can't drink the cheap wine anymore anyhow, so it doesn't phase me. I do appreciate the upgrades in the wine list. Improvements fo sure! Food wise there are a handful of new items, but I was hoping for more. In general I find the food kinda boring at Local. I go there for the people watching and the upbeat chaos! Menu wise, there are a couple of salads I like, but I really was hoping for improved appetizers. The nachos are terrible at Local, they omitted the calamari, they have pirogues now which were tasty, but it's still lacking. I love appetizers and I just don't care for their strange collection. I tried the new Malaysian Curry Rice Bowl and sadly it was mostly rice. They should call it the Rice Malaysian curry bowl lol. The sauce was very tasty, but not spicy at all (I was excited because the server said it was quite spicy) and there was not enough sauce. Serious lack of vegetables and not a lot of chicken for $18. I wouldn't order it again. Overall I am pleased to see Local has stepped up their game with some changes, but pretty much just order the burgers. Came here for lunch and Sunday football. Service was great and friendly. I ordered a salad, West coast Chop salad with chicken. It was fantastic. Fresh and full of goodies. Avocado, tomato, golden beets, juicy grilled chicken, mixed greens, crispy bacon and a hard boiled egg. Very nicely done!! Ceasers are always tasty and on special on Sunda There food has gone downhill but it's still a fun and happening place to go. Cheap wine $4. It's usually pretty decent. I ordered a salad I think it was $14 if I remember correctly. It was very boring. A big plate of lettuce with chicken. Was supposed to have avocado and I could hardly find any. Very boring very disappointed. I have had the same salad before and loved it. I swear the ingredients were left out. Right on the curb is this local restaurant which is mostly packed during a sunny day . All painted black , patio shines out with wooden benches . Roadside parking n some parking spots in front of the restaurant. Good thing that the kitsilano park is close so park in their parking lot. Our visit was not upto the mark . I don't know if they are busy all the time or just on weekends that their service was bad. Polite n sweet spoken servers doesn't help when u r looking to feed ur starving stomach. Our drinks were not well made. No seasoning n too much ice wen we asked for no ice. We ordered tacos with no chicken and it was served with chicken in it. So many disappointments but still we ate our food coz we were starving. But the food was not served properly. Even the ceaser drink wasn't garnished. Alot of other places... i mean seriously busy places know how to run smoothly wen busy but this place had no clue. Would not recommend for a quality meal. Just because it's in Kitz and is by the beach doesn't mean the food is good. Would avoid. I went here on a summer night with my parents. All other guests were loud and obnoxious and the atmosphere there is just not good for families at all. Now to the food. They don't have very many options. I decided to order a salad because literally everything else looked unappealing. I ordered a salad, I don't remember the name but I think they hav changed their menu, since. Anyways; they brought the wrong salad. I had a bit before I noticed and when I complained to the server she acted as if it was my fault the salad was wrong? Ok... moving on, they finally brought out the right salad. It was absolutely disgusting. No flavour, 2 peices of chicken and some beets. We have driven by this place several times and it looked like a happening place so we thought before we take a stroll on the beach we would grab lunch here. Unfortunately it was a big let down. The atmosphere was very laid back and the overall setting of the bar/restaurant was intriguing, the service itself and the food did not match the book on the cover. When seated indoors as there was a wait for outdoors it took our server more than 7 mins to greet us. We started a timer and told ourselves if we weren't greeted by the 9th minute we were going to get up and leave. At 8 mins and 47 seconds we were greeted. She brought us water but didn't even ask if we wanted drinks or to order. As she turned her back on us we decided to advise her we were ready to order. She hesitated a bit, but then looked at us instead of asking what we would like to order. At this point I proceeded to order a burger protein style and my boyfriend ordered a salad ( ironic lol usually the girl orders the salad). She didn't ask how or let me advise how I wanted my burger cooked and afraid they would spit in my food I didn't say anything. The food came out in a timely manner and tasted like your average bar food. The protein on both our dishes were on the saltier side but bearable.
