I've been to Local a couple of times now, both in the summer and winter. Their patio in the summer is nice, despite being in the parking lot of a Best Buy; you can watch people coming and going, and there are lots of umbrellas to shade the sun if needed. My most recent meal was for dinner on a weeknight and the place was pleasantly hopping. I agree with the other reviewers that comment on slow service; it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the meal, but things could have been prompter. I find the food to be in hearty portions, and well prepared. I went outside my normal food "box" and ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, with BBQ sauce and coleslaw, and it was fabulous; so tasty, not too greasy and big enough to take half home for lunch the next day. There are lots of TVs for watching sports, and a great drink menu. I'm looking forward to going back on a weekend to try some of the cocktails. Also bear in mind that even when not crowded, it was very loud - don't head here for a quiet or intimate dinner. read more

This place is probably one of my favorite places to eat, drink and watch a game. Fish tacos are da bomb. El ceasers are mm mm good... churros... omg. And breakfast Bennys! Best fish tacos ever. Crisp and flavourful. Nachos are absolutely terrible. Really dry with almost no ingredients. Doesn't come with sour cream or salsa (it says it comes with sour cream on the menu but it's actually a teaspoon worth of drizzle. I asked for sour cream (to try to make the best of the shitty dry nachos) and when I got the bill I found out it was a $2 charge. Ridiculous. 50 cents would be reasonable and expected. Anything more than that and I expect the server to mention it when I ask. The atmosphere was mediocre. We waited a while for a server to even come to us and bring menus. It was pretty loud. But it was nice with the doors open and fresh air pouring in. Won't be going back. Ultimately I found the $2 sour cream charge and shitty service to be a deal breaker. Stopped in here for a quick bite with my husband and oldest daughter. Servus was great. I got our drinks no problem. Tasted pretty good. I ordered a hamburger and was very pleased with it. My husband and daughter ordered a fish and chips and fish taco. The menu doesn't let you know what kind of fish, and our fault for not asking. But its BASA. Not a very good fish. Looks only half cooked. Not flaky, but soft and mushy. And pretty much no taste. As per manager that's how it is meant to be. Again, would have been nice to know this ahead of time. But that is half our fault. They were still very nice and took it off our bill and apologized. So still great service, just not the place if you like real fish. read more

As much as I want to like LPE, it's definitely and resoundingly meh. I had the Oil City Burger, which, despite having both pickled jalapenos and hot sauce, was not particularly spicy. For $14, it was also pretty underwhelming in size. The fries that accompanied the burger were also disappointing: limp and oversalted. Service was alright, but this isn't a place to get a rushed lunch. The atmosphere is, to put it nicely, not conductive to good conversation. The music is loud and the plenitude of televisions is distracting. All well and good for a sports bar or club, but as I see it, when you're a "pub" (gastropub?), that's not what you should be aiming for. (And, as a final point, does it seem odd that the three Local locations are "Vancouver", "Medicine Hat", and "South Common"? Why not just say Edmonton? Maybe E-town isn't trendy enough for them, so they feel the need to give us the run-around.) read more

I always find Local to be overly loud and crowded. I guess that means its a popular place, but I am not sure I completely understand why. I went in on a Friday night and was told it would be at least 45 minutes for a table becaue of the hockey game. Thing is, no Canadian teams were playing and it definitely wasn't an Oilers game. I was confused but let it go because they were clearly packed. Thankfully the wait turned out to be 10 min, but a lot of people came in after me and left after being incorrectly told it would be such a lengthy wait. Our server was polite and reasonably attentive given the fact she was run off her feet. The beer selections at Local are great, and constantly changing. They don't ever have food specials which is a bit of a let down. We started with the yam fries and they were great, but $8.00 is a bit much to ask for them. The problems started when I was halfway through my Crispy Chicken Sandwhich ($14.00). For the first few bites, it was amazing, until I bit into it and it tasted off. I got out my flashlight (because the place was too dark to see what was going on) and discovered raw chicken. Not just undercooked but dark pink and bloody. I felt like I was going to vomit. Serving raw chicken is not just disgusting it can make a person seriously ill. I had to grab another server to find ours, who promptly brought the manager. He comped both meals but not the appetizer, which is awesome. The thing is, it was too late for me to order another meal and make my movie, which meant I had popcorn for dinner. I appreciate how he resolved the issue but it was still a bad experience. I may give this place a try again, but I will cut through the center of any meat dish before I take a bite. read more

My husband and I come here occasionally for an appetizer and a few beers. Although it can be a bit noisy, we enjoy the beer menu and food. We also came for breakfast one day and had the Huevos Rancheros. The red sauce was delicious! Service was friendly and efficient. read more

I have been here several times now with a buddy and I will admit that I would like to become a regular at Local. If only my schedule would allow it! I am not the biggest fan of draft beer but Local has several that I actually look forward to. I've tried a few different things on the menu and I have to say that I have liked almost all of them. My only disappointment was on the nachos. They just didn't do it for me. The fish and shrimp tacos go down pretty good with a Yellowhead. Service has always been great. Every time I have been it has been right at the heat of the lunch rush. The servers have always been pleasant and attentive which is a plus that keeps us coming back. Once, I even asked the server for her opinion on what I should order and was surprised to get an honest answer. I was extremely pleased with her suggestion. Have been to a few of the restaurants over the holidays and thought i would post some pros and cons of each. Seems very dull and basic. Probably better with the patio open and better atmosphere. I was here with my boyfriend meeting one of his old high school friends. It wasn't packed but it was busy, it was just the end of the Oilers game so people were getting ready to leave. We sat there for well over 20 minutes waiting for a server to come take our orders. We actually had to get up to grab someone's attention. They ended up taking care of our drinks which was nice but after hearing such great reviews about the place we were all disappointed about the service. The chicken sandwich I had was good but the fish and chips my boyfriend had could have been a bit more fulfilling, but was also very good. I went to use the women's washroom and there was one stall that was locked (broken?) and the other two had no toilet paper. I went out and saw the first female server about to go into the kitchen and I told her there was no toilet paper in the washrooms. She seemed to understand but I waited in the bathroom for a couple minutes and no one came in except for another customer who had to leave with a full bladder since no one came in to replace the empty toilet rolls. Thankfully my boyfriend checked the men's washroom and they had a couple sheets of toilet paper on a roll he took for me. All in all I would never eat here again. Local is one of my favourite pubs in all of Edmonton. The servers are generally friendly and the food is always good. Best nachos we have had to date. The only downside is some of the clientele that frequents here, be prepared for a lot of flexing and selfies. read more

I have been frequenting LPE since the week it opened and have never left. There has been maybe one bad experience here but in the establishments defense none of the staff that was on that day works there any longer. Maybe my experience is unique but I know all of the staff by name and some of them know me by drink. A couple times they've even asked about things I mentioned in passing last time I was there. Amazing. I understand that Romancing is part of the industry but these people have me by the heartstrings. My other half wanted some pasta so we aimlessly drove around South Common looking for a place that would have pasta (a place that wasn't Milestones, Moxies, or Joey's). We noticed that a new restaurant had opened up and decided to try the Local Public Eatery out. There is no pasta because this place serves pub food but we choose to stay and try it out! The service was quick and the waitress was both helpful and friendly. I ordered the Islander burger (with a veggie pattie) and my other half ordered the Champion burger (named after "the city of champions" Edmonton catch phrase). The burgers were amazing - fresh and created using very unique flavor combinations (goat cheese, mushrooms, caramel onions for the Islander and a range of hot sauces and peppers for the Champion burger). We both loved our food. The decor is very industrial with a garage door as a window and lots of brick and dark tones - something I personally love. We'll be back as this place is awesome for a quick bite to eat or as a place to hang out with friends. You can substitute most things for a vegetarian option! read more

So.... this place has been listed under the WRONG categories for the last 3 years! I just took a look to see what all the fuss is about (meaning a plethora of 1 & 2 star reviews) because I think as far as sports bars go, this place rocks! Huge TV screens everywhere, an open patio concept (which is like non-existent in this city) where the entire resto opens up to the patio in the summer and you actually feel like you are outside when sitting up at the bar. As well as great game day special and a really cool job done on the design of the decor/interior from when it was OMP. I feel like the Joey's group (being like a billion dollar company in this country) must have a Social Media firm that handles things, and well, they should get fired for not noticing that this place was listed under 1) Canadian New - which is places like RGE RD, Woodwork, Wildflower Grill or Red Ox... NOT this place. And 2) it was listed as a "breakfast" restaurant. Ya, not that either... Sports Bar. And one more time: This is a SPORTS BAR! Sure, the wait staff kind of suck sometimes, but I've always had great food (again, for a sports bar) and a ton of fun watching a game. read more

We came here to watch the soccer game on sunday. The place is a beautiful open concept with the patio flowing into the inside of the restaurant. On a hot day this was awesome. great tv set up that basically anywhere we sat we had a good view, and we liked that they seemed to have a seperate section to put familys with young kids. Best service I have ever received at a restaurant from Michelle. I was blown away by her knowledge and care of us. everytime we ordered something whether drinks or food she told us how they make it and what to expect so we were sure we were making a good decision with no regrets. Outstanding. The food was good but nothing i'd rave about. had the beans and yam fries; portions were plenty and service was fast. Excellent summertime choice for a beer and high-end pub food. There is an excellent patio, but I actually prefer the open-air inside seating. The structure has several overhead doors which are opened in the summer allowing for a nice warm breeze. The menu is diverse and the food well prepared. I found the waitress knowledgable & enthusiastic. There were great drink specials too which compliment the wide range of beer choices, in particular the lemonade-beer drink was delicious. I will be back, and prefer this place to its neighboring establishment (less gangsters too). Finally, the place has lots of TVs, and is excellent for watching a game. read more

Ugh, what a disappointment! I had been here previously in the summer and had enjoyed my experience on the patio, but after my experience today I won't be back to LOCAL. The first issue was how loud it was. Yes there was a football game on and I can understand that fans were getting into the game and all, but I didn't really peg the place to be a sports bar. I chalked it up to bad timing and got over it, even though it meant shouting across the table to talk to everyone. My second issue was with the service. It took exceptionally long for some of the drink orders to come to the table, and when my friend asked for water, the waitress brought the jug and two glasses. Both glasses had food bits stuck to the inside and when we made this known to the server she looked at us like we were the idiots and should have just used the glasses anyways. Now for the food. I have previously had an enjoyed the burgers at LOCAL, and decided to try the Ahi Tuna sandwich. I hate onions and make sure I read the listed toppings and if onions are there I make sure to mention to the server to leave them off. They weren't listed on the menu, and when the sandwich came I was SUPER disappointed to find heaps of pickled red onions on the sandwich. I scraped them off but since they were pickled, the flavor was set in the sandwich. Additionally, the tuna was flavorless, the bread was cut-the-roof-of-your-mouth hard and the lemon mayo that came with the sweet potato fries was lacking the zesty touch. Yes, this review has become more of a rant but there are tons of other places in South Edmonton Common that serve virtually the same menu items with better service and better quality. read more

I have to give this place a mixed review. After reading a glowing review last week in SEE (or is it VUE now?) about how great the hamburgers here are, I had to give them a try. The burger was OK at best. It was overcooked and thus not very juicy, but in fact quite dry. Where this place made up for it was with the very friendly server. It was obvious I was there to try some of the various beers they had on tap and she kept bringing me small samples of the various brews - and each time she would explain each one. In the end, I probably sampled 9 different beers, which led me to try at least 4 different pints that I probably would not have tried - so job well done to the waitress. I would go back if I wanted to just sit in a great looking bar and drink a variety of beers, but I will probably continue my search for a great burger at other options. read more

No doubt about it... I mean no "boot" about it.... Local is a great place to come in South Edmonton Common. Come to Local and enjoy a drink in a fun boot glass. The patio is a nice option to come to or my favourite is the table just in front of the glass garage door (it's a bit quieter). Food can be pricey but the Baja tacos are a big hit. It's a nice casual place to go and they have a nice selection of beer on tap at any given time. read more
