Totally unimpressed with this place. We were seated inside looking into the open kitchen, while sitting there I observed a male blow his nose in the kitchen, still unsure if he washed his hands after (mind you he's the one plating the burgers) I also seen a waitress pick up a slice of cake from the prep area, the cake had fallen over on the plate so with her bare unwashed hands she picked it up and recentered it on the plate. Had lamb balls in marinara on fettuccini. Marinara was obviously from farm to table. Fabulous flavor. My husband had shrimp scampi burger on focaccia with hand cut fries and couldn't have been happier. We managed to split a tiramisu that was spectacular. Locals was recommended by reliable friends. The service and food were horrible. The server never came back to take our order and left the restaurant without checking on us or letting us know. The chicken on the Mary's Chicken sandwich was too tough to eat. I had to walk and get our bill so we could get out of there. Not one person asked how our food was. Waste of money and time. We ate at this restaurant on our drive from Texas to Florida. It was absolutely fabulous!!! The outdoor space is amazing!! Honestly why are all restaurants not like this? It's very Parisian or like mountain town/Estes Park kind of vibe. I had the recommended lamb burger and it was fantastic! My husband built his own bison burger and it was also wonderful. We got the pimento cheese puff and they were delicious hush puppies with homemade pimento cheese and honey but don't let the simplicity fool you, they were so good! I decided to eat at Locals last week. It's a small deli type of restaurant that specializes in burgers and other American fare. It's not overly big so I imagine they are able to maintain consistency during busy services. I ordered the Lamb burger, and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Bun felt and tasted fresh. It really was a fabulous burger. Great job. If you want a fun place to eat with amazing burgers, you should definitely give it a try. Update: went to Locals again for lunch. Another home run. Such a great lunch spot! Our waitress was awesome. We had the special as our appetizer which was some sort of dip and hushpuppies. They melted in your mouth! Loved the sweet tea here too, ode to Louisiana because it was community coffee's. I had the shrimp pasta and my husband had the ready made pork burger. Everything was delicious! Tried 3 times but never got served. I'm not sure who is in charge of this restaurant but they really need a better idea of what is happening in their town. One time we were told 20 to 30 minutes but after an hour, we still had not heard from them. Needless to say we had an excellent lunch somewhere else. At our second try, everything we tried to order they were out of - even the liquor for one of their special drinks. The other visit we were told they were closed for a wedding but they had had their opening signs out all day advertising lunch, happy hour and dinner times. Really sad business practice! read more

Might have been a bad day, but they need to step up the service. I'll return to a mediocre restaurant for good service. Host (at the barrel) told us 40-45 minutes for a table. After 45 minutes, and watching people walk up and sit down, my sister asked and was told we could go to the bar if we wanted. She told them we would wait for a table, but then they sat us...at the bar. The table was right beside where they mix drinks and it was VERY loud. We ordered burgers and a shrimp scampi sandwich. Burgers were good, but was missing my garlic aioli so it was dry. Our drinks were never refilled. We were asked once if everything was okay, but it was before we even had a chance to take a bite. We finished and sat there and the waitress (who must have also been the bartender) said she would be right with us. And we sat. And sat. She finally picked up our dirty plates and then brought the ticket - which needed to be separated but no one wanted to wait that long. So we sat with our ticket ready to pay, and sat, and sat. We finally left enough cash for the ticket and walked out. Hints: don't sit near the building where they mix drinks. It's loud and there are mosquitoes or gnats. read more

Love this LOCAL farm to table restaurant! The food is always so good and their homemade carrot cake is the best I've ever tasted. We always eat outside in the alley, day or night, and love the atmosphere and energy of the staff. The only negative we've experienced was with a couple of young, immature, rude hostesses last summer. read more

Once we sat down we found out that the Alley Bistro and Locals merged and is basically an upscale burger place. We attempted to eat a Locals this evening but encountered a special kind of stupid when we asked for a table. When we approached the hostess and asked for an inside table we were informed that we could only be seated outdoors. I was told this as I looked indoors at mostly empty tables. I said it is cold, I would like a table indoors. The hostess replied that the outdoor waitress had nobody to serve and so we had to eat outdoors. My wife then asked if there were patio heaters. The hostess said there were no heaters because they were out of propane but they had blankets. We ate elsewhere and wonder how long a place run like this can last. read more

I had the shrimp and grits which I'd rate among the best I've had (they were really rich and filling). I snuck a few of my wife's French fries and was a bit sad that I didn't have an order of my own. This place is my favorite restaurant in Fairhope, and possibly this side of the bay! This is bizarre, but I am not a vegetarian and yet always order their veggie burger. Sounds weird, right??? It is KILLER! I don't remember what all they do to it but the beans marinate overnight in something to form the patties with the peppers and what not. It is AMAZING!!! I don't even like veggie burgers, but one day I got adventurous while on a health kick years ago... and I've never ordered anything else since haha! Every time I go (which unfortunately is only like twice a year), I get the veggie burger, on focaccia bread, (no lettuce or tomato because I really am picky and my tummy can't handle lettuce), Cajun cheese (can't remember what they call it, but it's local!), and I add bacon . The food here is delicious and most of the time we have good service- Last night was a bomb- Our friend ordered a burger and received fish and when we pointed it out the bartender/waiter just through up his hands and said he'd been really busy at the bar...Lots of other things went haywire too but it would take too long to write. In a town like Fairhope where there are so many good restaurants they need to step up their game. Our friend should have been comped for his meal since he did not eat the fish he didn't order.
