Had a chance to try this place last weekend and the food was amazing! It has a very authentic feel, like being in Italy! Growing up with an Italian family, I haven't been to many restaurants that have this sort of ambiance, it felt like home. Service was great, they have real Italians working from front to back, which is nice, with a great wine selection. We went for lunch and can't wait wait to go back for dinner. This is a charming little authentic restaurant, tucked away on a quiet side street in Lafayette. We had a lovely birthday dinner with all 4 entrees being delicious. My wife and I have been trying to try this place for a while and it did not disappoint. The entry way was a little small and it was tight squeeze when we were trying to check-in. We were seated quickly. The place was cute and was semi-outdoors. It was a little loud when we started our meal. We order the meatballs as an appetizer and they're very good. The meatballs were moist and the sauce was excellent. Our service was near perfect. Our water never was empty, and our waiter checked in just enough to ensure we were taken care of but not too much to be annoying. I order the special (short ribs and polenta and my wife order the Ravioli Di Aragosta. Our food arrived very quickly. My short ribs melted off the bone and was very flavorful. The polenta was good and acted as a nice complement to the short ribs. My wife loves her pasta, and was reluctant to share it. My only complaint was the "cheese guy" never came to our table to offer cheese to my wife's pasta. However, it did not stop her from consuming the whole dish. Our neighbor table ordered pizza and it looked really good. We ended the night with lemon cake and tiramisu. Both were moist and delicious. It may be the best tiramisu I have found in the area. Tables are spread out at the patio. You have an option to sit indoor or outside but I will suggest everyone to sit outside for the fresh air. Had a great time having dinner here for the first time. We made a reservation a week in advance and were seated right away when we arrived. Dinner was great until one of the waiters took off his mask to sing the happy birthday song at one of the table. The food is great. It's rich and filling. We ordered the lasagne, carbonara and a pizza as an appetizer. It sort of reminded us of being back on vacation in our villa in Massa Lubrense. The servers were friendly and prompt. There were a lot of birthdays being celebrated when we were there. It is mostly outdoor because the indoor portion of the restaurant is tiny. So if you're outdoors and it's chilly, you sort of get stuck being half cold and half hot because of the heaters. So just a heads up on that! Otherwise, it was a lovely place for a date night. read more

I wish I could give this genuinely 0 stars. I took my sister, mom, and boyfriend here for a pleasant dinner. Everything started out great, but when the food arrived my sister found a GIANT hair looped through her gnocchi. It was hair cooked into the gnocchi about 7 inches long--the hair was looped through like a pendant on a necklace. My sister immediately told our server. The server came back and they made her a new dish. But when they brought out the new dish of gnocchi, they forgot the she added chicken. By the time they brought out her "new" pasta was cold at this point and she lost her appetite from the previous hair experience and hardly ate. When the bill came out, the pasta with the 7 inch hair in it was still on it. We had ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, plenty of dishes--you would think the one pasta THEY COOKED HAIR IN would be removed from our check...That is common courtesy. We asked to speak with the manager REINATO LOPES and he was EXTREMELY rude and simply said "I'm not taking that off, look at our reviews". It was the most disrespectful and degrading response, and he obviously does not care about customer satisfaction. Even worse, we realized he turned off ONLY our heaters after the horrible and traumatic dining experience, out of spite. Moral of the story, this treatment absolutely ruined what was supposed to be an enjoyable night. I will definitely be letting everyone I know about this terrible experience. DO NOT COME HERE, THE WORST SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT TEAM I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. REINATO LOPES NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE STAFF IMMEDIATELY. HE DOES NOT BELONG IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. Nice small Italian place in the heart of downtown Lafayette with ample parking. Menu has good variety and food quality is excellent although a couple of them was a bit too salty for our taste. Staff here are top notch and they make you feel welcome, and one of their waiter sang an Italian version of happy birthday and he even hit all the high notes. Of course, the way I judge how good an Italian restaurant is how good they can make their Affogato and they sure deliver! The other dessert that was out of the world was their Tiramisu. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the East Bay Area. There are locations in Livermore, Pleasanton Danville, and Lafayette. I love the service and food at this location, never had a bad experience. The eggplant parmigiana and vegetarian flatbread are my favorite go-to's. Everything on the menu is authentic with some slight variations but it is still very fresh and tasty in its own way. Because of the quality and service received on all of my trips, I will highly support this delicious business. It's a nice place to take family, friends, colleagues, and anyone whom you want to enjoy a friendly atmosphere with nice Italian food. I came here on a Sunday evening with my Mother, around 5:30. The place was not full at all -- maybe 25% - 30% of the tables were taken. Service took a long time. The servers and staff were just standing around, and could have been more responsive in bringing food, etc. The food was okay, and not great. The service, especially at the end, was terrible. My 85 year old mother, who does not read well without her glasses, asked the server about bread. Did bread come with the meals, and why didn't we get bread? He said it's on the menu, and then added that he couldn't "read our minds" -- He was very rude and very condescending, and did not consider that maybe we didn't see it on the menu. Have some respect, courtesy, and patience with your guests. This server received zero tip, because that is what he earned. We paid more than $90 for average food and rude service. read more

First time at this Locanda location, previously been to Locanda Ravello which is equally as good. We had the little room with the teal chandelier to ourselves (party of 4) which was really nice because we had a lot of catching up to do. They were very patient with us taking so long to order etc. Although, inside wasn't nearly as busy as the outdoor seating area. We shared the Burrata starter and one had the daily special which was a steak salad, the rest of us had pasta, we shared two desserts. All very delicious. Our server (I have a sneaking suspicion he may be an owner) was utterly charming and sweet. Will definitely return. *Special note: My mother ordered the lasagne because it looked so good online. I went here earlier tonight with my family for the first time, and the food was some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Plus our server (I wish I could remember her name, but she was a tall girl with brown hair in a bun and a striped shirt) was absolutely amazing, like seriously the best server I've had in quite awhile. All you had to do was make eye contact with her from across the room and she instantly came over to see how she could help. A somewhat disappointing experience. Booked a table to take my wife for her birthday and let the restaurant know ahead of time. Sadly there was no acknowledgement or additional service offered at all. Food and service was just ok. The ravioli was good and the Branzino was nicely cooked however it came with essentially raw veg that was barely edible. Location isn't great and restaurant indoor feels cramped. Outside patio is nice and also heated so very comfortable even in winter. There is only one bathroom with a constant line that leaves you standing over other diners, otherwise you use a public bathroom in the parking lot. Not a place I would chose to return to. read more

My family and I came here for Mother's Day and even though we were seated outside on the balcony, the experience was very nice and comfortable. Although they were extremely busy, we experienced very good overall service. Everyone was very helpful and attentive if we needed anything. We ordered a couple of appetizers, pastas (lobster ravioli w/prawns, linguine & clams, pesto gnocchi, stozzapreti and desserts. We were craving some pasta this weekend and when looking at places in the area this popped up on my Yelp radar. It was a sunny day in the East Bay so we opted to sit outside on their outdoor patio area. The seating outside was perfect because it was breezy and allowed for dogs. We saw a birthday in the back as well so I'm sure you can reserve some of the larger tables both indoors/outdoors. The parking lot here shares a space with the BBQ spot next door so it can get packed but it's not too bad. When we pulled up we noticed a sign for bottomless mimosas on the weekends. | FOOD | + Strozzapretti - Pretty solid dish. I rarely make pasta using Strozzapretti pasta so you know I had to get it here. Being a cream sauce this can get a little heavy. Add on the sausage, mushrooms, and peas and you got yourself a hearty dish. The only thing with this dish is that I wish the pasta was a cooked a little longer since it tasted a little undercooked. + Ravioli Positano - Also another one we rarely make or see on menus so we had to get this one as well. The dish came with ~8 raviolis. The sauce was more on the red side of the scale so it was a little more acidic than we expected but it wasn't a bad dish to try. Probably wouldn't get this one again though. ***Complimentary bread with olive oil/balsamic vinegar mix to dip Service here is friendly and welcoming but can be a little slow. read more

She took great care of myself, my wife and 8 year old son. Very personable with attention to our needs without being overbearing. Whenever available, I highly recommend their special ragu and penne. I honestly felt like I was back in Positano. Pasta was cooked perfectly. And the ragu... to die for. You could tell it was simmering all day by the richness and the tenderness of the beef. My neighbors and I went for lunch at Locanda Positano in Lafayette yesterday, and it was wonderful! The decor of the dining room had large photos of Positano scenery, which is gorgeous, and there was an upscale ambiance with white tablecloths. The service was lovely and attentive, and, OH, those Italian accents!!! Fantastic! I had the Chicken Salad, which was a beautiful arrangement arugula, pumpkin seeds, feta cheese, and beets in a delicious vinaigrette dressing, topped with a large mound of tender strips of grilled chicken. It was a generous size, and I took some home to enjoy later. My neighbors both had linguine, which they thoroughly enjoyed. I will go back again soon! read more

Excellent Italian food on a lovely, heated, patio. Visited for the first time tonight and had a great time. We sampled the gnocchi (both tomato and pesto sauces), pizza and chicken marsala. Everything was well prepared and delicious. The crust on the pizza was so crisp and delicious, it was a perfect start. I wish the chicken marsala had come with a carb, but the large portion of mushroom sauce and veggies was great, and I'm sure less decadent than if they'd thrown it over buttery mashed potatoes. We finished the night with an order of Tiramisu, and it was incredible. The espresso, chocolate and rich creamy filling were all in perfect alignment. We came on the Friday of Valentine's Day weekend. My boyfriend made an early reservation and we were sat immediately. They have a great outdoor space and they provide warm blankets! Nice! Heat warmers were amazing because my boyfriend and I actually started getting hot towards the end of our meal and it was a pretty cold night. Service was great. Very attentive and the vibes were fun! The servers reminded me of E Tutto Qua in SF. Singing and speaking in loud Italian lol It was great. We started with the burrata and prosciutto. Very good portion but would've preferred more crostini's. I had the Strozzapreti as my meal and my boyfriend ordered the rigatoni. Portions were great. We each took leftovers. Pasta was al dente. Both of our meals were on the salty side, and this is coming from someone that loves salt, but both very good. Not great, but good. We also ordered the cannoli as a dessert. On the dry side. Wouldn't order that again. We were sitting and talking for awhile. They eventually came over to us, apologized, and asked if we wanted to go to the bar because they had a lot of people waiting. We over stayed our welcome, haha. The guy was very nice and sympathetic when he asked us to leave and he offered us Limoncellos at the bar. We kindly denied but he made some for us anyways while I was in the restroom and my boyfriend was waiting for me outside. Very nice of them and they were strong! Dinner at Locanda Positano in Layfaette for Valentines Day. It was packed but service was attentive. The martinis were perfect and clean. The fritto misto appetizer was huge- full of calamari, large prawnns, and zucchini. Perfectly crisp and seasoned with a lemon aioli. The focaccia was hot from the oven and served with a Kalamata olive spread. The lasagna was good- hearty with lots of cheese and meat. I ordered the carbonara subbing regular fettuccinee for their cauliflower (gluten free) pasta. My first order came out cold but our server quickly remedied the situation and brought out a fresh hot plate (no charge for the pasta as a courtesy). It was a very traditional carbonara- just pepper, cheese, egg yolk, pasta water, and guanciale. No cream! Made the wat uts supoosed to be- loved it! And didn't even notice the pasta wqs gluten free. Locanda is a fabulous Italian restaurant that has surprisingly good gluten free options. The staff is very friendly and some of them are from Italy. The service can be a little slow but only when they are busy. They have gluten free pizza crust and penne pastas that are really good. On their winter menu the lobster ravioli is out of this world good. I usually have the intention of getting something different but always end up getting the lobster ravioli when available. I have been multiple times and have not been disappointed. read more
