The food at Loch Bar is always amazing, which is why I've been a regular customer for quite some time. Most of the staff have consistently been friendly, professional, and attentive. Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me feeling disappointed and uncomfortable due to an interaction with a server named Cody. After our food arrived, Cody did not return to our table for quite some time. When he eventually checked on us, he explained that he had other tables inside. I simply asked for salt and pepper for my steak. Roughly 20 minutes later, he returned with pepper and steak sauce and asked if that was what I had requested. I politely explained that I had only asked for salt and pepper. By that point, I was no longer interested in eating the steak and told him it was fine. What surprised me was his response. Without any prompting, he said, "All those times I came and checked on y'all, that would have been the time to tell me about the steak." I was genuinely shocked by this comment. At no point had I been rude, disrespectful, or confrontational. I calmly explained that he had not returned to our table after the food was delivered, but he continued to insist that he had. Because of the way I was being spoken to, I asked to speak with a manager. While waiting, I tried to resolve the issue directly with Cody and explain why his comment was inappropriate. During that conversation, he apologized but also stated that another table he was serving had gotten on his nerves and that he essentially took that frustration out on me. He further explained that he thought I "looked frustrated" about my steak and therefore went into the interaction already on guard. The problem is that I had never blamed him for the steak, never raised my voice, and never treated him disrespectfully. He made assumptions about my attitude and responded to me based on those assumptions rather than the actual interaction we were having. I explained that in customer service, especially at an establishment with Loch Bar's reputation, employees represent the restaurant and shouldn't take frustrations from one table out on another. Unfortunately, the conversation became even more frustrating when he told me that he had already left us a dessert menu and that the situation was "over." Once again, I felt dismissed and spoken to disrespectfully. I asked for the manager a second time. When she came over, she listened to my concerns, handled the situation professionally, and was very courteous throughout the interaction. I'm sharing this review because I've always enjoyed dining here and have had many wonderful experiences with other servers. However, this encounter made me feel uncomfortable in a place where I've always felt welcome. One employee's behavior does not reflect the excellent service I've typically received at Loch Bar, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt it needed to be brought to management's attention. Loch Bar -- Late-Night Eats Review We chose Loch Bar tonight for some late-night eats, and it was the perfect choice! The location was great, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Since we arrived late, seating was limited to the bar, but we still had access to the full menu. My guy ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, and I went with the Shrimp Scampi appetizer and a side of Roasted Asparagus. The Shrimp Scampi arrived first, and the presentation was gorgeous. The shrimp were served over a slice of sourdough bread that was soaking up all that delicious scampi sauce. It was so good that I kept the plate and used the remaining sauce with my asparagus! His Caesar Salad arrived looking delicious. The chicken on top looked perfectly cooked, and the salad was creamy and coated perfectly with Caesar dressing. The roasted asparagus was simply presented with panko roasted on top, and it was cooked perfectly tender. And yes, it was absolutely delicious dipped into that leftover scampi sauce! The restaurant is nicely, decorated crisp, clean lines, simplistic, giving an upscale retro diner vibe. I often go for an early dinner with my cousin who always orders the burger and he loves it. often I ordered the fried potato wedges with caviar. The caviar is just commercial American style. However, the dipping sauce has a nice horseradish, sour cream chive blend is absolutely delicious. I have locations. I have enjoyed the oysters and they have a very extensive bar. The inner dining space was large and open, however the seating we were taken to, coupled with the freezing AC temperature drove us outside to Al fresco dining onsite. Our server was very kind. She was taking care of two to three other outdoor parties along with us so other associates helped with getting dishes out. Our beverages didn't arrive until after my first course (a delicious cup of Cream of Crab Soup) was served. A minute later, the beverage came, and within a very few minutes, another associate arrived with my Caesar Salad entree.... Good grief! I hadn't even finished my soup! Being just a block away, Loch Bar fit the bill but it turned out to be so much more than a place to get some food. The restaurant is lovely inside with a chic feel. The high ceilings make the space feel very roomy and grand. The hostess was great as was our server Matt. It was easy to tell that management takes customer experience very seriously here. Matt made some great recommendations as we perused the drink and food menus. My rye old fashioned with the custom distilled house rye was great. We started with some shrimp cocktail which we enjoyed. I wasn't too hungry so I had a couple of starters....the crab tots and the fried shrimp and calamari. I loved the calamari and shrimp combo but the crab tots were out of this world. They had gouda cheese in them and the crab topping was very generous. I could have just eaten those all night! My husband had salmon with some purplish rice (I forget what it was) but I was halfway done with my food and looked over and his plate was empty. He loved it. For dessert, we shared a caramel apple cheesecake which was great. It was also amazing for breakfast two days later when I finished it because we couldn't eat the whole thing at dinner! My boyfriend had the idea of coming came back here on Valentine's Day and, just like last time, everything was great! Even though we didn't have a reservation, out timing happened to be right as we lucked out on seats at the bar, which is kind of more our thing anyways - we are typically grab seats at the bar when it's just us two. Went back and forth on what to wanted - entrees each with a shared app versus sharing a few apps - but landed on having a few plates to share with another. A few things caught our eye so we went with the Crab & Artichoke Dip, Black Diamond Mussels which came with fries and the Crispy Calamari and Shrimp which we had last time we were here. Came here for happy hour last night and I can't wait to return. The happy hour menu is great, and I'd also like to come back for dinner--especially when I have plans at the Kimmel since it's such a convenient spot. There are a good number of seats for HH, but they fill up fast, so I'd recommend arriving right when happy hour starts. Our waiter was kind, though not very attentive, and it was tough to get his attention at times (it was pretty busy, so understandable). Wine was great. For food, we shared oysters on the half shell, fried oysters, roasted oysters, and the yellowfin tuna poke. The raw and fried oysters were outstanding--those are definitely what I'll reorder. The roasted oysters were flavorful, but at that point you lose the distinct oyster taste. The poke was fresh but a bit underwhelming; I wish it came with something like chips to pair with it. A nice place with lots of bar seating. The duck was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection and I was surprised because seafood is their specialty. I'd come back just to have this duck again. Mind you, this was on 3 separate occasions. But, the food is so good I over look it & go back... The fried oysters are delicious and crispy. My favorite out of the entire meal would have to be the crab cake. It's a big portion size with the choice of a salad or fries to accompany it. The crab soup comes out hot, full of flavor and cheesy. Ordered Smoked Salmon Benny, Crab Cake Benny, and Lemon ricotta pancakes, and a side of pork sausage. Unfortunately had to wait approximately 5 minutes for Valet to come to the stand from inside the restaurant. Cost for valet $32. Once we were inside, sat quickly and coat check was offered. My friend ordered the crab cake and was disappointed. My lobster roll seemed really dry and flavorless but the baby green salad and crab tots were decent at least. We were given dirty glasses and had to ask for new ones. Someone then came and took all our silverware and didn't give us new silverware when our entrees came out. Came for the drink this time will be coming back soon to try some dishes. They have an extensive libations menu and a ton of variety in their whiskeys. It wasn't crowded at all but you can tell this place is a lunch spot fave for all who work downtown. The restaurant itself is very nice looking and kept clean. Bathrooms were clean as well but I hate when places dont have toilet seat covers available in the stalls. Anywho, I ordered the Roasted Oysters as my starter and for my entree we got the lunch special which included a caesar salad and fried chicken sandwich. Typically, the special is about $25 during lunch hour but since its still Restaurant Week, it was $20. No, the oysters werent apart of the lunch special but any place with a baked/roasted oyster on the menu will get ordered lol. I also ordered a Lemon Drop as well. Everything was delicious. The oysters were very good, salad one of the best ive had at any dine in restaurant, and the chicken sandwich was juicy. The bartender made the lemon drop perfectly as well. Service was standard. Everyone was nice but nothing stood out. I plan to return for dinner, as the menu had a few other things i'd love to try.
