After spending the morning at Three Sisters Springs checking out the manatees, we worked up an appetite and stopped in for lunch at Grannie's Restaurant in Crystal River -- and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Grannie's is a cute little diner with simple décor and classic comfort food. Nothing fancy, just the kind of place that feels welcoming the second you walk in. Our waitress, Trish, was an absolute pistol -- quick-witted with a slightly sarcastic edge, and I loved every minute of it. We had great banter back and forth, and she made the whole experience even more fun. There were four of us in our group. The ladies both went with the vegetable soup and agreed it was tasty, though a bit heavy on the tomato flavor. One had a grilled cheese, the other a BLT, and both were happy with their sandwiches. Me and the other guy ordered the Monster Melt -- think patty melt vibes with a cooked-to-order burger patty, melted cheese, and diced onions. I had mine on rye bread, while my buddy went with a bun. We both agreed the burger meat was good quality and cooked just right. He paired his with crinkle-cut fries, and I went with fried okra because, well... when in the South, eat like a Southerner. After lunch, we shared a slice of homemade carrot cake. My wife thought it was a bit too sweet, but I say there's no such thing as too much money, too much fun, or too sweet of dessert. My friends and I stopped in to Grannie's Restaurant for Sunday breakfast before heading home the day after attending the Manatee Festival. The restaurant was conveniently located near our Airbnb. I ordered the two egg combo with sunny side up eggs, hash browns and bacon. I added toast for egg dipping and fried onions to the hash browns. I wish the onions would have been mixed into the hash browns when prepares. But otherwise everything was hot and fresh! Klaara was our friendly server and she kept my friend's coffee coming. The restaurant had a few tables, several booths and a counter for seating. It had a charming country vibe. We arrived about 9:30 AM and we were seated right away. But by the time we left at 10:30 there was a line out the door. I suggest arriving as early as you can on the weekends. They also sell fresh pastries and pies. Next time I'm in Crystal River I will stop in to Grannie's for lunch or dinner since I've tried breakfast. read more

Fantastic little local spot in Crystal River. It's small, and clearly popular with a huge crowd at 9:45 on a weekday. We were seated fairly quickly, and got drinks immediately. While the menu was pretty standard, there was a good variety of food. We ordered eggs and biscuits, and I got grits while my husband got a (huge) pancake. Food comes out as it's ready because everything is made fresh and there aren't any heating lamps. Everything was hot and flavorful, and even though service was quick, we didn't feel rushed. We came to Grannie's Restaurant in Crystal River as first-timers... and accidentally got adopted. First -- the food: legit comfort food. The kind that makes you immediately question every life decision that didn't involve ordering biscuits earlier. You don't eat here... you enter into a long-term relationship with blueberry butter. I'm fairly certain I would now spread it on drywall if given the opportunity. But the real star of the experience was our server, Tracy. Tracy did not "serve" us. Tracy managed us. She roasted us, corrected our menu decisions, judged our drink choices, and somehow kept our coffee cups filled the entire time. At one point I'm pretty sure she made eye contact from across the room and my water refilled out of pure fear and respect. We tried to act like mature adults ordering breakfast -- Tracy immediately saw through it.She kept us laughing the entire meal and somehow ran the table like a combination of a stand-up comedian, a kindergarten teacher, and a cruise director. I'm convinced:Grannie's doesn't run on electricity.It runs on biscuits, blueberry butter, and Tracy's personality. We showed up as customers and left feeling like we just got fed at a relative's house... except the relative is hilarious and will absolutely call you out for not finishing your pancakes. 5 stars for the food. 5 stars for the atmosphere. 10 stars for Tracy. Grannie's was kind of what I expected! We went to grab takeout on our way out of Crystal River and swimming with the manatees. The place was busy on a Sunday morning, as to be expected. The waitresses were hustling around and almost every chair was filled with a camo-wearing local. I ordered the veggie omelette with grits since I don't usually see that as a side offered in Seattle and wanted to try it out. The omelette was made with frozen veggies and american cheese, both of which were well below my standards. The grits were completely flavorless. I have had grits many times and these were by far the blandest. The waitresses were friendly in the grandmotherly way that the sign indicates. I have never been called "honey" or "darling" so many times in 10 minutes. I didn't mind it, it's just different from what I am used to. I am glad we got our food to go because the ambiance was not for me. Loud, fluorescent lights, and the smell of cigarettes was almost stronger than that of waffles. To be fair, I am not a local and come from the clear opposite side of the country, so maybe the warmth and appeal were just lost on me. read more

I got the chicken fried chicken and couldn't eat it. It was very salty. My husband got the same and his wasn't as salty. I add salt to my food so for me to say it was salty, it was. The host was very friendly and gave the place a welcoming, family feel. I loved that the owner/manager came around personally to thank guests for coming in. The food came out in record time (faster than the toast!) and everything was hot and fresh. Server was very friendly and cracked jokes with us. The homemade biscuits and gravy with country fried steak were absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the classic all-American breakfast eggs, bacon, and pancakes all cooked to perfection. Simple omelette dishes that will make you remember grandma's house when you were a kid. The pancakes are delicious, and the winner of the side dishes are the small red potatoes that's added to the omelette dishes. It seems to be the morning spot for all the locals due to everyone knowing everyone... I'm for out of state so it was nice to eat at a place that has that feel of home. It's not an extremely fast paced dinner... at times you will wait a min on your order but the quality of the dood is worth it... the price isn't exactly expensive, seems like a fair price due to the portions of what you get. We went to Grannies for breakfast yesterday and we were SO disappointed! The service was great, our server was pleasant and efficient, & she checked in to ask if we needed anything. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at Best! My husband ordered the (white) sausage biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs over medium with hash browns snd bacon. The gravy had virtually NO sausage in it, and little to no flavor! The eggs were overdone, even for "medium", and the hash browns were dry and flavorless, as if they had been pre cooked and then microwaved. My breakfast (1 egg, hash browns and bacon) had the same flavorless hash browns, although the egg was ok. Bacon was just ok. Its been quite a while since we had eaten at Grannies, and this reminded us why. We will make a point to return to Biscuit barn, or even Breakfast Station before Grannies in the future. read more

So I just moved to Florida and I been seeing Gannies and heard good things, so I decided to go and try it out. : First impression 2/5 Odd experience when you first walk in looks like a bar more than a breakfast place, but you soon see seating to the right and there is even a small side room for dining as well. Over all I didn't get that open welcome vibe more of a who are these people. I walk up to the counter where I see pies so obviously I went right to that display and if I only knew what I saw was just the beginning of Grannies. The Cherry pie was almost gone I say two slices left HOWEVER it was a mess to a point where there was once a pie crust covering that now just had cherry. It was just a mess. : Staff 4/5 Staff seemed friendly and we really had little talk with our waitress besides our order. :Food 1/5 Okay so down south they have medium over eggs instead of over easy. Your over easy is just a flip of the egg and right on your plate leaving it still runny where it is hard to know if it was boogers in the egg or raw egg whites. So after learning this lesson from Dennys. So we order over medium eggs white toast home fries I got hash and my wife got bacon, we both also got 2 coffees. :Coffee 1/5 If you love a good cup of coffee in the morning then Grannies isnt the place for you! It taste like tea water no coffee flavor at all! I know times are hard for us all but please make sure you put enough coffee grounds in your coffee machine! :Food 1/5 Eggs came out my eggs seemed fine. Eggs could have been cooked less I dont know why some places here can't cook over easy eggs in fact my wife has one egg completely overcooked! They did make a new one for her but it still was a bit overdone. The toast was perfect! The Hashbrowns taste like you just pulled potatoes out of the ground and boiled and grilled then onto your plate. The bacon had a odd taste not too sure what kind of bacon they served. Overall not a good breakfast at all! The final straw was when I found a hair in my eggs and that ended my want for food. :Price For what your getting in Food the price is wayyyyy over priced at the end the bill came to $36.00. RECAP :Hash. Salty, Burnt, almost nothing to eat. :Eggs. Overcooked. : Coffee. No taste of coffee. Very weak. : Toast. Perfectly toasted and buttered : Bacon. Odd flavor, not sure : Potatoes.
