Came in to The Bearded Pig in Jacksonville looking for some solid BBQ and it ended up being one of the better meals we had on the trip. Right away the place had a great vibe, busy but still comfortable, and you could tell they take their food seriously. Marcus took care of us and his service really stood out. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out right without us having to ask. It's always a plus when the service matches the quality of the food, and he definitely made the experience even better. The brisket sandwich was excellent, full of flavor with that perfect smoky taste and really tender meat. You can tell it's done right. The pulled pork sandwich was just as impressive, juicy and packed with flavor in every bite. Both sandwiches were filling and hit the spot. The mac and cheese was great as well, creamy and rich and paired perfectly with the BBQ. It's one of those sides you don't think much about at first but end up finishing completely. Came here for the first time- was visiting my brother in Jacksonville, and the staff was kind. They have a parking lot so no need to worry about where to park. You order at the register, they give you a table number, and they bring it out to your table. We got the Whole South Bank (and apparently it was the last for the night- we got there around 7:30/8pm). The Whole South Bank came with ribs, chicken, and two other meets of your choice (we got brisket and pulled pork) along with 4 sides. We also got a Cobb salad since it was a travel day for us and we felt we needed some green. They have both indoor and outdoor seating- we chose indoor due to the air quality that day. Ok so we stopped in for lunch while in the area. You order at the counter and then they bring it out to you. We ordered one of the platters ($36 approx) it came with 1/4 chicken, 2 ribs, 2 pieces of turkey, 2 pieces of brisket, a side (Mac and cheese) and a roll. We also got an extra side of sweet potato fries and burnt ends. All the meats were very good and well seasoned. The sweep potato fries were out of this world not sure what seasoning they had on them but WOW they were delicious. The only so so note was the Mac and cheese, not bad just average. The building itself was clean and neat, they turned over the tables quickly and checked on guests often. They could use some better signage for the building itself but that is the only knock I can give (gps took us right to it). read more

We ordered the San Marco platter for $36 and an additional side of Jalapeño poppers with 2 sweet teas for a total of $51. We were pleasantly greeted after after a brief wait in line to order. You select your own seating. We sat outside due to the amazingly mild temperatures. The San Marco platter comes with 2-3 ribs, 1/4 chicken, your choice of 2 other meats anf your choice of 2 sides. We chose brisket, sausage, slaw and sweet and sour beans. A sandwich roll comes with it and a few slices of pickle and onions. My sweet tea was good, but dont let it sit too long. Your ice will melt and make it to o much lime colored water. The slaw is a vinegar base with kale and cabbage shredded mix. It was good, but was missing the bite I was hoping for. The sweet and sour beans are best foe those with a blended palette. We appreciated them and may try to recreate them at home. Not too sweet nor too tangy(sour). Pickle slices were favorable. I only wish we had more than 3 slices. The meat all had a great smokeiness to them. The chicken leg quarter was tender and paired will the the Sweet and Tangy sauce option they provided. We had brisket that was both lean and another that had medium fattiness. Tender and savory. We had some of their mustard sauce with it. The ribs were very seasoned, fairly meaty and came clean from the bone in some parts. The thinner end of the rib was a little tough. The sausage was the star. Came here after visiting the new Riverfront Plaza, it was about a 5 min drive so it was a nice option for after a fun fam day at the park. We sat outside. I had my puppy in his bag carrier so it was nice to have the option to bring him to a family dinner with us. Theres heated lamps outside for the cold nights. We finally ate recently at the long awaited Beared Pig restaurant. We opted for the 2 meat and 2 sides combo each and enjoyed everything on the plate. The ribs were a little tougher than I like but everything had great flavor. I love that they put the sauces on the table so you can try everything. You can sit inside or outside (where they allow dogs-huge plus for us). It's casual but clean. TVs and a great bar inside. Reasonably priced with huge portions and every single one of their sauces are home runs. The poppers are to die for. Bacon wrapped, cream cheese, crispy delicious. Counter service, excellent. Initial Food Delivery excellent. Food: smoked wings and the sweet beans were delicious but the dijon/vinegary potato salad was too tangy and the potatoes a bit too solid. Service???? Sadly, after the food came I sat 30-40 minutes eating and not one person attended to my table even once until I flagged the server down. Only 3 tables in my area had guests, mine was one of them. It was not a busy evening (Tuesday night) and most tables were empty so why would she not attend to me as I had watched her attend to the two other tables just feet away from me???? Sad! I watched the server assigned to my area pass by 6 times and she intentionally only attended to two tables, a table with one male and a table of 4 males. Note, both tables were seated after me. They got food and she returned twice to each of the other tables asking those diners if they were done and if she could help take their trays. Not once did she look my direction nor come to check on me even though I was seated just 6 feet from the table with one diner and seated only 8 feet away from the table with 4 diners. Instead of checking on me after them, since I was 6 to 8 steps away, she turned and left and instead went to check on the diners on the patio or started taxiing utensils and other things to the kitchen. Why not also check the ONE THE OTHER GUEST seated in plain sight at a table in your area?? Sad!! At first I thought I was being too sensitive so tried to ignore it and I focused on enjoying my meal. Silly me still believed eventually she would get around to checking on my table or would at least ask if I was done and if she could take my tray just as she repeatedly asked the diners at the two other tables. Nope!!! 10 minutes later, she still had not come by once!! I had waited long enough already so I waved to flag her down so I could ask for to-go containers. She brought containers and 'the bad taste she left in my mouth lingered.' I thought, 'Why was she acting like that, and why just with me? As I passed her on my way out, her disingenuous "Have a nice night," was disingenuous and annoying as obviously, she had ZERO concern about me having a night while in her area over the last hour! Respectfully, I said 'Thank You' still but I knew that that would be my last time I ate there. There are too many great places in town to eat where staff offer SELECTIVE customer service. The best servers know how to treat guests like guests. Sadly, the server working the inside tables opposite of the bar area gets an F+ in customer service on tonight. I'm sorry 4/21. There's No Excuse for a Server ignoring a guest 30-40minutes who's patronizing your workplace. Ignoring guests will get your restaurant bad reviews. This is a place you order at the counter and they bring you the food; it is pretty much self service after that. They staff will check on you, but you dump your stuff when done. Our poutine and food arrived at the same time so we moved our huge tray of food so we could eat that poutine. Love at first bite. The combination of brisket, fries, cheese sauce and pimento cheese was outstanding. We added some of the sweet BBQ sauce. My favorite meat on the platter was the sausage.
