Then with a Texas Bear Trap beer in hand took Kelsey's advivce and ordered the Sea Scallops. Had a difficult time deciding, everything on the menu sounded great. Very good choice, might have to return tomorrow to try something else. Definitely next trip back to Dayton will have to return here. Had a chat with the local who was sitting next to me at the bar and it was one of their favorite places too. Got to see some other menu items and they all looked great. read more

We stopped by here for the first time ever at 5 on a Sunday. I had read good reviews of Lock 27, and it certainly lived up to them. The interior is small but inviting with good lighting and lots of wood. Specials, like "French toast bread pudding" (mmmmm...), are listed on a large chalkboard next to the bar. The bar has around 10 taps; 3 are their own, and the rest are for guest beers. When we visited they were having a Clown Shoes tap takeover, which was fine since Clown Shoes has some excellent beers. They also have a decent looking bottle selection; it's not huge, but they try to keep it interesting. Flight size beers can be purchased individually, so you can construct a flight of 1-10 beers. We split a 10 beer flight so we could have a bit of everything on draft. That included 4 of Lock 27's own brews (they swapped a new one in right after we got our flight, so we actually ended up with 11): a pale ale, a smoked wheat, an oatmeal stout, and a Berliner weisse. All 4 were very good. The smoked wheat particularly stood out -- it was like a cross between a light wheat ale and a rauchbier, and went very well with our food. The menu has quite a few appetizers, and we didn't really look outside those. The bartender recommended the wings, which are dry rubbed and lightly blackened. While they looked good (really good), we weren't in the mood for wings. Once we saw "poutine" we were sold; this isn't something that regularly shows up around here, and it'd been quite a while since we'd had any. It was fries and slow cooked beef in a savory brown gravy with cheese curds scattered throughout, all topped by a fried egg. It was divine. We tried to follow up with the pierogi, but they were out. Instead, we got the cheese tray, which turned out to be a big win. A thinly sliced crusty bread loaf, some sort of rye cracker, blueberries, cranberry chutney, balsamic vinegar, honey were accompanied by three cheeses: a smokey cheddar, a relatively mild but tasty blue, and a smooth Brie. Bread + Brie + honey + blueberries was wonderful. We finished up with a current special, the French toast bread pudding. It came topped with a small scoop of caramel, strawberry, or vanilla ice cream; we chose caramel. We still had a but of Clown Shoes Billionaire (a rich barleywine) left, and it paired perfectly. Best food in the Centerville area, hands down (and that's not just the beers talking). Speaking of beers, those are fantastic too. I have frequented Lock 27 since it opened, and it has only gotten better with age. The location itself is nothing special - located in a strip near Kroger and the Restoration Hardware Outlet, but inside the atmosphere is warm, fun, and welcoming, so do not let the unassuming location deter you from giving this gastropub a try. The menu is small, but there are always new and amazing chef's specials printed on a large chalkboard near the bar. Some of the best meals I've had at Lock 27 have been the specials (perfectly blackened Lake Erie walleye, cavatappi Alfredo, and chicken & waffles, to name a few). Having been there so many times, I've tried many things on the menu, and I'm yet to have a bad meal. My husband and I visit often and even have a family member that always requests we go there when visiting from out of town. We all leave impressed with the food. Every. Single. Time. Their frites and sage pesto mayo or spicy garlic mustard (which are served with nearly every meal) are enough to make you want to come back. A few of my favorites are the Keener burger, the breakfast sandwich and the pierogies. The beers on tap are always interesting and fun to try. I love that you can infuse beers ghost peppers, coffee or extra hops. My husband and I have both tried ghost peppers and coffee. You get to infuse using a French press at your table, letting the infusion sit for as long as you'd like depending on the strength of flavor you're looking for. Lock 27 gets crowded pretty quickly in the evenings, but they will take your phone number to text you when your table is ready if there is a wait. The service is ALWAYS amazing and friendly (and we've been there too many times to count). We've had several conversations with the head chef. It just feels like a family, and it's so clear the level of pride the employees have in the establishment. We're excited that a new location will be opening in downtown Dayton but we hope this one doesn't lose any of what makes it our favorite local spot! read more

We tried this one last time. Three strikes, you're out and all. We were there last Tuesday. Not many people there and that's always ok. However. Logan the server was there once again. I'm sure she means well, but she's not able to do this job competently by herself. The poutine I previously raved about was just ok. Not a lot of cheese curds and the gravy was odd tasting. After our visit three months ago, I was promised that, given another chance, things would improve. We did and we'll not be heading back down there. Lucky's will do just fine. read more

First time eating here on 10/09/15. Very good food & great service! We tried the smoked wings & pierogies as appetizers. (Wings very good, pierogies were ok but I make homemade so hard to compare fresh to restaurant). We ordered Asian Pulled Pork Sliders, Brisket Sandwich & Caprese Sandwich all with Frites. Go to Lock 27! It is a very nice surprise. You don't have to take my word for it, just ask anyone in Centerville. The food is as good or better than the micro brewed beer, and the beer is excellent. However, if you are from out of town and don't know anyone from Centerville; yeah, you'll just have take my word for it. Make sure to call ahead for reservations, or you will be waiting for a bit. The good news is that there will soon be a second, larger location in Dayton near the ballpark. The -possibly- bad news is that it could be a different experience from the "small restaurant" experience we have now. read more

So I had the wings & poutine. I've had their wings before. Dry with the hot sauce on the side - the hot sauce has a good flavor. It's not hot, but you do get the slow burn - I like that. The more you eat . . . I didn't know when I work as a teenager at Frisch's I was making a poutine (sort of) when I would cover my fries with beef gravy. This place is VERY suburban (think: strip mall, wall paper with bricks painted on to mimic an urban/trendy setting). The patio overlooks a suburban hell parking lot and there's nothing but more strip mall to the left and right. That being said, the service was friendly and beer was decent. We just moved into the neighborhood a month ago and have been to Local 27 twice. The strip mall exterior is quite deceiving. The venue is intimate and modern but with that neighborhood-joint vibe. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable about food and drinks. But the food... The food! First time there I had the burger special, The Gibbs. Best burger I've ever eaten in my life!!! It had a very well seasoned patty on a soft bun with caramelized Brussels sprouts, bacon and reduced balsamic vinegar. I so wish they would make this a regular item in their menu. I've also tried the pulled por tacos and they were very good.... Although I still would rather order the Gibbs every time. Their fries are nice and crispy and come with your choice of dipping sauce. My initial visit here was nice. I met someone new and this is where she suggested. The atmosphere was nice for a craft beer establishment; not loud for the amount of people present and a nice size big screen tv for viewing sports. The both of us grabbed a flight of beers and we shared an order of wings with a rub. The beer and bone in wings were very tasty. The bartender/server was very attentive and offered suggestions for the flight of beer. I would return to this establishment the next time I'm in the area. read more

This place is small, so if you have more than 4 people for dinner, reservation is recommended. Every time we go there, I have to have the smoked wings, and then I will try something different than last time. This time, I had the Chicken Curry Pad Thai, and it was delicious. My son had the hamburger, and he pretty much down that huge thing in no time - not just because he was hungry, it taste just that good! If you are a beer drinker who like to try different type of beer, this is place you should give it a try. I've never had sour beer, so my first sour beer was here. It was surprisingly good! I love this place. This is about the third time I have been... Tonight we had the chevre appetizer, the walleye, & the tacos. All were fantastic! The walleye was a special. You could get it fried or blackened & it came with fries. Or "frites", as they like to call them. I opted for the blackened & it was amazing! Light, flaky, moist. The house made sauces for the fries all sounded good, but I ordered the sage pesto mayo & it was really good! Very unique. He got the tacos with blackened mahi mahi. It was wonderful & the habanero hot sauce is no joke! Previously, we have had the wings & the pirogues... Also delicious! The wings are dry rubbed & smoked.. With this char on it. Lock 27 Brewing is one of the popular hangouts in the Centerville area! They brew beer on site & have a kitchen that offers some amazing food. The beer is quite good here with the Mouth Breather IPA being the most popular selection. I also enjoy their cocktails which range from the traditional libations to the new and inventive drinks. While it is a brewery, Lock 27 is known for their impressive food!!! People rave about it & it is a popular dining spot. Some of my favorite dishes I have tried here include the Poutine, the smoked wings, fish tacos, pierogis, the breakfast sandwich & salmon quesadilla. I am warning you....if you come during peak hours, you can expect a wait. The restaurant is a bit smaller than the average place, but they do have patio seating in the warmer months. The service is usually quite good and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food. They recently opened up a location in downtown Dayton which has been quite popular as well. Killer menu, killer beers, killer atmosphere, and killer service makes lock 27 a true 5 Star. Today I went simple and got the cheesy potato soup (with bacon) and a Cuban sandwich. Everything as expected was boasting with flavor after every bite. Yum!!! The menu has a wide variety of option from fish, wraps, salads, burger, bbq, and pasta. There is something for everyone here. They are a brewery and house their own beers. ( 10 to choose from) It's has an outdoor patio that's covered with Edison lights and rustic decor. We ordered our appetizers and entrees at the same time due to the wait. We waited an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. The food was good. I love the location and the decor. The IPA was good, but the glass smelled so funky I couldn't enjoy it. I ordered the blackened fish tacos. The toppings and presentation was excellent, but the fish was absolutely the saltiest thing I've ever eaten in my life. My daughter got the Lock27 Frites, and while the fries were outstanding (home made, perfectly salted with coarse salt) all three sauces were just strange. The chipotle ketchup was way to Smokey, the aioli just tasted like cayenne. The third sauce was okay. Honestly, they left me wanting plain ketchup. This is just a hop skip away from me; therefore, I like to pop in and get a bite to eat and try the new brews. It's in a strip mall so don't be fooled if seeking it out. It's there and will sleight your taste buds with a variety of brews and food. I am pretty limited in what I eat but can always find something here. My fave is he Mac and cheese and tacos with blackened fish. Tonight I tried the special fish and chips and was happy I did. The fish was cooked perfectly with a lovely batter and not greasy in the slightest. The fries are a staple here and can be ordered as an app for those curious. They are thick cut fries slightly salted with a crisp bite served with their special condiments of course. Love that make their sauces and try them all of you can! Tonight's entree came with tartar sauce which is scrumptious! I kept dipping everything in it. The coleslaw was creamy and yummy and I don't even like the stuff typically. Overall I was very pleased with my meal and always look forward to trying a new beer. I prefer to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders because they give you lots of info about the beers. I met friends last night at the downtown location and I will never return. The primary reason is there are no waitresses?!? You have to stand in line for every item. You want a round of beers to start? Wait in line at the bar and carry them to your table yourself. You want an appetizer? Wait in line and someone brings it to your table (gee, thanks). You want to order food? Another round? Yep, you stand in a line and order it yourself. And sometimes the line is 10+ deep. Unacceptable! I have been to restaurants frequently thru covid and I have never been to a place that has a tip line on the receipt that also makes you get out of your seat for every beer. Even Steak n Shake has someone come to your table...Also, there are no taste/ flavor description for the beers on the menu. Just a witty title. The pretzels are great! And the atmosphere is nice and the food came out quickly. So if you are fine with standing and waiting in line each time you want a beer or whatever (and to cash out) this might be okay for you. read more

Walked up to the restaurant with my date and was greeted and seated right away. Our waiter (a young brown haired man with a small man bun) took our cocktail order immediately then after dropping off the drinks and taking our food order he left for over 30 minutes maybe more. When he came back we were finally given waters and then he left abruptly before I could order another beer. He had very bloodshot eyes (looked high). My date had to yell for him to come over once. After we got our food, I felt better but the service was below expectations. Food was good but not excellent. I won't be returning anytime soon due to the slow service. I also wanted to tip more due to the larger bill, but tipped half what I usually do due to unsatisfactory service. read more
