If I could give this place a 10/10 I would! It's a little confusing to find from the road, it's on the main road but its right next to an insurance building. It also shares it's parking lot with the insurance building. There's no super big sign or big building that says escape room. Once inside, there's a bunch of other small businesses that share the space with this business, and it was smaller than I was expecting. They have several options to choose from, our group chose the excalibur option, and it came out to $29/person. The excalibur room is big, wheelchair accessible, and definitely worth it-it fulfilled all my desires! The room has a lot of challenging puzzles, riddles, and brain teasers. They even had a ceiling glass ball puzzle that you could solve by pulling ropes-that was my personal favorite part of the whole room. It definitely had a camelot theme to it, but it was still sparse at the same time if that makes sense. They could've juiced up the decorations a little bit more. As a first timer at escape rooms, I found this a little challenging but doable and we finished with 12 minutes to spare. This activity is also a great icebreaker!

We stumbled across this place during a foodie day trip and bar hop around Saint Paul. This review…read moreis specifically for the bar, which I believe goes by the separate name Hourglass Cafe & Bar. (The building also houses an escape room, though I haven't experienced that yet.) The building itself is incredibly unique, with a spooky history that adds to the atmosphere. They also have a really fun, thoughtfully curated cocktail menu! Between our visits we've tried at least six different cocktails, and every one has been delicious. I also appreciate that the pours are generous. On our second or third visit, we figured there couldn't be a better place for some entertainment-only tarot readings. I brought my deck, and it was such a fun experience reading for friends in a historic old mortuary! Street parking is available right in front of the building. We've always been able to find a spot nearby without much trouble. I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a drink and soaking up the atmosphere!

I'm torn between a 3.5 and a 4 on this one. It's a cool location with great ambience. Although we…read moredidn't try the food or drink, it looked good and I'd love to come back and try it. Having done a number of escape room in the past, I love that this place felt a bit more quirky and independent than some of those more "corporate" type rooms. This will be spoiler free here. We booked "The dreamscape". There was a puzzle that must be solved in the common hallways, using a prop, before you can enter the actual room. This was kind of neat but also served to bifurcate the experience. Outside the room and inside the room didn't really feel connected. It felt gimmicky and like busy work. I mean it was a neat way to enter the room in concept, maybe they could connect the two experiences better. Inside the room, the puzzles were very "station" oriented. You could complete the stations in any order to ultimately succeed. This was also different from other escape rooms I've been to that are very linear with one clue leading to another. This one was basically just a series of independent puzzles to solve. The difficulties varied, from very easy and immediately solved - to kind of overly complicated that really required you to think like the puzzle creator. You know how sometiems in a puzzle room when you get stuck and have to hit the button for help? Then you get the answer and you're like "that's genius? how cool?" or "I never would have thought of that! that's brilliant". It wasn't like that here. First, pushing the help button didn't really result in actionable help. As all the different "stations" were in use by members of our group, the cryptic and esoteric help tended to be just general, and not on the specific place and station we were stuck. Second, when getting the help and actually solving something it was like "really? that doesn't make any sense. How on earth would anyone do this on their own?". Overall, the family wants to go back. I liked the ambience and the eating options. I didn't really care for the communal outside-the-room experience. The particular room we chose is among the least favorite rooms I've ever done (the best one ever being the Harry Potter elder wand room over at Trapped Puzzle rooms - which I believe is a sister location of this business). So I would recommend the Lodge of Lazarus Crowe overall, but this particular adventure was a swing and a miss for me. Didn't particularly enjoy the theme, the designs, the puzzles, or the lack of clues when we needed them.

Amber, our game master was very nice and throughout the game, you get up to 5-6 clues which you can ask your game master at anytime. I have done about 25 all over the country and this one did NOT disappoint. A few considerations- be sure to be early. The room starts at your start time! They didn't require us to sign waivers like many places do. We did the Istanbul Gambit room, which I honestly was not stoked about beforehand. It didn't sound like a very interesting theme. But ya'll, I was wrong! Furthermore, this room didn't just ask you to escape, but also to complete a few other goals too. I liked that! The room made great sense and had a lot of neat reveals. The room did feature a combination of old school keys and locks and codes, and more advanced locks and puzzles. There's a lot of surprises in there. Be sure to bring a competent team because this room does not play around as far as difficulty goes. They also offer unlimited hints, so feel free to ask for help if you need it. My only real critique is that when we did ask for one hint at the end, the game master gave us TOO MUCH information. But that's a quibble. Check this place out. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it was great!

The puzzles make you think, but the 9 and 11 year olds were still able to help out and didn't feel like it was too hard for them. The puzzles were very hands on, which was very fun. The Montessori kid in me always loves that. The room itself was so cool with a bunch of secrets and secret places hidden around! Really felt like you were in a wizard's toward! Cool lighting, walls, and ceiling. AND a staircase in the room which was awesome! We finished in under an hour (which we were kind of shocked by, because we thought we were taking a long time). The room was so well done with creative and interactive mysteries. It truly felt like we were in a magical room, uncovering hidden clues and surprises. It was so exciting to uncover clues to get closer to completing our mission. The best part is that it was all Harry Potter themed which made it extra magical! We had 1 hr to complete and we escaped in the nick of time! Booking was easy and done online. It was easy to find parking nearby. The staff are super friendly and guide you through everything you need to know. I absolutely loved my first escape room experience! The whole group couldn't get over how much fun we had and already thinking about our next one! Highly recommend!
