Locke store have the best food ever. I had their Hungarian chicken stew over rice or even egg noodles and it is full of flavors. My family absolutely love it. The chicken pot pie is delicious. Fresh, juicy chunks of chicken meat with perfect amount of vegetables and the crust is pure deliciousness. This time I picked up roasted golden beets along with Mediterranean chicken salad, can't wait to try it. They have the best baguette and I picked up three loaves along with one ciabatta. Did I mentioned, they also have delicious bake goods...oh my goodness. The brownie with peanut butter icing is delicious. Their chocolate chip cookies on the top list in my household. Let's just say, all their food, bake goods, tea, wine selection is all delicious. If you happened to be out in Middleburg area, stop by Locke Store. Buy fresh and buy local. This is a perfect example of doing so. It is also a perfect find and will now be part of my Sunday routine. All around I love this place....the ladies are super nice and the food I've had, vegetable tart, was pretty f'n amazing! The food. You cannot believe. A really neat country store meets high-end yuppie vibe. And the mill across the street is astonishing! They grind all kinds of stuff there and it's all done with water power - and you can picnic in the beautiful area along the creek. This is a weekend destination. Check their website - they have wine tastings and other nifty events. And you are not far from the Shenandoah River, the Appalachian Trail, Naked Mountain and Twin Oaks Wineries nestled in the BlueRidge, and even Harpers Ferry is only about 30 minutes further. The people are super friendly in Boyce. Locke store is the kind of place you can pull up a seat at the picnic tables in front of the entrance and jaw for an hour with a complete stranger. Fantastic gourmet deli and store in an old building, in an even older, quaint town. Amazing sandwiches, gourmet food and drink selections and really helpful, nice staff. Parking is ample and there are picnic tables outside to enjoy your goodies on. You can also take your food across the street to the picnic tables behind the old mill for a more scenic meal. I just love stopping in here and perusing the shelves. The cheddar bacon biscuits are wonderful, and the BLT and fried green tomato sandwiches were on point. A great stop off if you're on a day drive, antiquing or just checking out the historic beauty of the area. read more

We were out in the Shenandoah area doing a day of antiquing and were in Boyce at a cute little shop where two local ladies told us we HAD to stop here for lunch. We took their advice and drove through the beautiful countryside to get there. While the store is not much to look at from the outside, trust us you should go in. Very quaint yet upscale store selling fresh baked breads, sandwiches, coffees, wine, macaroons, etc. I ordered 2 different sandwiches to go and asked for one of them with no mayonnaise. The lady informed me that all the sandwiches were pre-made but she would see what she could do. Once you order your food you wait in line to pay. It was a Saturday at lunchtime and was quite busy. It took about 5 minutes to pay and I ordered an iced coffee and 4 macaroons while paying. The lady at the register was very friendly and made my iced coffee just the way I like it. The experience of the store is really great. We ate across the street. I had chicken salad on garlic naan. The garlic naan was store bought and they chicken salad was very skimpy, maybe about 4 tablespoons :-( the other sandwich was grilled chicken with bacon and that was delicious. The macaroons were terrific. We got raspberry, coconut, and pistachio and they were delicious. This place is definitely off the beaten path but if you are anywhere nearby here give it a try. It might not look like much on the outside but these are my favorite places to visit. Free wine tasting? Yes, please! The aroma of fresh baked bread & an amazing sausage tart welcomes you into this magical space! We purchased a fresh peach/raspberry dessert; it was fresh with the perfect combination of sweet & savory. I love that they sell local cheeses and meats. Discovering places like this is what makes Yelp such an invaluable resource. A small, well-stocked grocery and deli located right where 723 and 255 split (at the time of writing this review, Yelp's pinpoint on the map was wrong), this is the perfect place to stop and grab lunch while visiting the area. As others already said, the store is conveniently located across the street from an old mill attached to a quiet park with picnic tables. There are a few small tables in front of the store itself as well. As far as vegetarian lunch options go, there was a great quiche available by the slice. Unfortunately, we arrived later in the day on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon and so they were out of the egg salad sandwich. Nonetheless, there were some solid vegetarian sides available (including an excellent beet and citrus salad) too. Traditional wine accompaniments are available (crackers, cheese, olives), so despite it being a deli, vegetarians should do okay here. Prices are comparable to what you would pay at Whole Foods, so it's not the cheapest but it wasn't the most expensive either. Sadly, I didn't pick up any of their delicious looking baked goods - but next time I'm there I will have to give them a try. read more

Any time that my sweetheart and I are in the neighborhood, we stop in to the Locke Store. They've got a nice selection of wines, and fresh coffee beans from Central Roasters. We walked in today with our reusable grocery and wine bags, and walked out with a few bottles of wine and bags of coffee (two of the basic food groups!). While they have some staples, the Locke Store is really a combination cheese shop, wine store, bakery and prepared food/deli store than anything else. Kind of like a locally owned mini Wegman's out in the country where you can pick up a fancy sandwich, macaron and bottle of wine and you can also contract them for catering your next event. read more

Well, it's a weird situation. I loved the food there, and my fiancé and I sometimes went there as a treat. They have a community board where you can essentially claim items others have bought for free. My fiancé and I often used this board because we have little money. However, today, an employee told us we weren't allowed to use the board, as since we "could buy items outside from what we claimed for free, we shouldn't be using the board (since we had money)" my fiancé and I can't afford a car. His house is foreclosed. I have a grand total of 26$ in my bank account. We came to Locke's as a treat, because in a life that's hard, sometimes, yes, we use our money to treat each other because we want each other to be comfortable. To have so many assumptions thrown at us, to assume we are well off and to essentially tell two broke people they don't look broke enough to use the community board? It was extremely insulting and rubbed me the wrong way. Not coming back - shame though, I liked the food :) read more

I cannot say enough good things about the Locke Store. The food is ~outstanding!!~ Everything is made from scratch daily. Hands-down the best shepherd's pie I've ever had. Also some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They have a refrigerated section of the store filled with pre-made pot pies and soups from their menu that you can buy and heat up at home. The vast majority of grocery items they sell are locally-made / locally-grown. Dairy, produce, meats, honey, jams, wine, even homemade pasta noodles. We arrived very near to closing time and were welcomed nicely by three different women. Looked for take out dinner items since we were staying at a chain hotel in Winchester and missing home cooking. Food is good, not over the top great. Service is surly. The bacon rolls are divine (get one or more of those - they will be gone post lunch). Green salad was okay, easy to make at home (greens, cherve, candied nuts). Quiche was overcooked/dry and not all the way heated through for lunch. Chicken pot pie was creamy but didn't seem fully cooked. Very rich and unfortunately was dumped into our box so the top crust got slimed by the innerds. If care was taken getting it from the deli dish, heated then into the serving box that would go a long way in improving the experience. 2/3 of my party did not like the mac and cheese. We divided everything to sample a variety and all had pretty much the same opinion. Glorious setting by the mill/picnic tables (cross the street), okay food, cute store with fun but expensive items, and extremely poor service from store employees. They act as if it is a privilege just to be in the store. The person taking all of the lunch orders did not know the ingredients of any items, nor did she know any of the prices and was clearly repulsed that I had the audacity to ask such trivial questions. read more

Probably one of my favorite places to eat. Love the quiches and salads and soups and , well everything I have tried...I love. In warm weather you can sit on the porch and eat, and contemplate whether the store across the road is an antique store, or an intervention set, for a show featuring hoarders. Get the macaroni and cheese! It is the best/worst thing you will ever eat. (Something this tasty has to be very bad for you). Seriously though the best Mac and cheese I have ever eaten! Sorry to say I will have to disagree with the one dollar sign should be two or three at least. One dollar sign to me is fast food prices, this food is more expensive but well worth it! I recommend getting small portions of the food to eat there and taking frozen home with you to enjoy later. read more

This store is a very small local quint store. There is a cool old Mill across the street that you can walk around and there are some historic exhibits and stuff. There is also a stream running through the mill that you can see rainbow trout in. I think people feed them. The actual store is awesome! It has a lot of local and craft beers. Large wine selection as well. My wife and I enjoyed a free tasting of some beers and cheese while we were there. We were looking for some food we could take to our getaway house to cook later. We bought a chicken pot pie and thing of macaroni and cheese. It was more expensive than we were expecting. $22 for the pot pie and $8 for the mac and cheese. I also got a real ginger beer soda that was excellent. We brought the food home and cooked it in the oven. It was pretty good and had that comfort food feeling. It actually turned out to be more food than the packaging made it look and it filled the two of us up. Worth a trip if you are out enjoying the country. read more
