I don't have anything to compare my experience to, as I'd never lost a mailbox key before, but Michael made the entire experience painless. He came to my house within an hour of my phone call, and it took about 15 minutes to pick the lock and replace it with a new one, and grind the edges (apparently damaged from a previous attempt at busting open the mailbox). We have been looking to find a reliable locksmith that can install electric door strike for our building for a while. Mike and Peter from Locksmith Central saved the day (even on a Sunday). I was staying at a friend's place and locked the keys inside the unit. The two of them were very thoughtful about approaches to get inside without causing damage to the lock or the door. They even used a special tool that Peter invented that made entry damage-free. Mike is amazing!!!! I was so locked out of my apartment, that I actually had to go to the fire department to ask if they could get me in through my open window on the third floor! They somehow managed to get me in through the actual door (yes, I felt like a complete idiot!), but I called Mike and he came out at 7:30 on a Friday night to fix my lock! Yes, 7:30 pm on a Friday. The key broke off in my bike's U-lock and I needed it removed from a sign post. I called up Locksmith Central and they were there when they said they would be, and cut the lock for me in a couple of minutes. The doorknob came loose on my front door. I called another locksmith first and he said he couldn't come out until the following week because my lock was an old mortise lock and they only have one person who works on them. But he referred me to Locksmith Central. So I gave Locksmith Central a call and described the problem to them. They were very knowledgeable on the phone and told me what the most likely solution would be and gave me a quote. They had no problem coordinating with my schedule and coming out at a convenient time for me. He called when they were about 15 minutes away so I could be ready when they got here. When he arrived, he quickly took the lock apart, replaced the spindle and knob, and had it back together again in no time. The charge was pretty much what he quoted over the phone. He also gave lots of advice on security in general while he was here. I'd recommend giving Locksmith Central a call if you need a locksmith. read more

We had keys cut here. Unfortunately, one of the new keys didn't work in our lock. (It was a copy of a copy, so this may have been the reason.). We took the key back and a fresh copy was cut free of charge, no problem. This time it worked perfectly. read more

My car door lock was becoming a little difficult to unlock. (It's key lock not a wireless fob.) Didn't think too much about it. Suddenly, it wouldn't unlock at all. I called Kevin who runs the great San Francisco Auto Works (the most honest and competent garage you'll ever find), and he referred me to Locksmith Central in Noe Valley. I called them and explained my situation. The guy says, "why don't you buy some Tri-Flow lubricant, spray it in the cylinder, and see what happens. It may take care of it. If not, call me back, and we'll give you a quote to work on the door." It did. $7 for the lube, and about 18 second to do it. Bingo. Like new! Vaguely embarrassing, but you can't know everything in this world. What I do know is savvy experience, honesty, and generosity when I see it. I need to take a dozen great cookies or a six-pack or something over to guys who are as good and honest as SF Auto Works. read more

Michael and his company are a straight rip off company! I called around to get quotes to install locks on a van and was given a price of $170, the assistant called and confirmed the appt for today Saturday and gave an address in San Brunos and again confirmed the price. I get to the address and its a home in a residential area and met John who apparently works out of his garage. 4 hours later I get a call the van is ready and it's $570, WTF!!! I get there and ask John why $570? He said its NOT the first time this happens, customers are given a quote over the phone and then after work is done its a different total. John was unable to give me a break down of the price, he also said he installed the cheapest locks and could break into them in less than 3 seconds. So why am I being charged so much for cheap products??? I called Michael and was very nice and polite because that's the type of person I am. I asked why he and his assistant had quoted me a different price, immediately he raised his voice and said he never said that and he didnt have time for me, he started yelling over my voice and hung up on me. I called back and made it clear I just paid his company $570 and he shouldn't be yelling at customers who pay and want clarification. He yelled again saying he didn't have to take my insults and hung up on me. This Michael guy definitely doesn't know how to treat his customers has no phone etiquette and is a thief! I will be reporting this to the BBB. Never using again and wouldn't recommend to any business. Beware consumers! read more

These guys are a class act. Needed to get two worn door locks rekeyed, and Mike gave me an estimate of $20-40 per lock, depending on how much effort was required to get the locks operating smoothly -- one lock was over 40 years old, so I understood the uncertainty. After an hour, I come back to the shop, and he tells me he has good news and bad news. The good news is that he's rekeyed both for $20, but the bad news is that one of the locks doesn't work as smoothly as he (a self-professed lock snob) would like. He said he'd be happy to spend more time (and money) on it, but I should go home and see how I like them. I tried both locks at home, and they worked just like new! He came out within an hour, no "emergency charge" and had the problem solved within the hour. It's an old door so he gave me instructions about what to watch for in future. After moving across the city, I lost the key to my jewelry box... With all my jewelry in it. Was totally bummed because I've owned the jewelry box almost 10 years, and thought that my only option of getting everything out was to break the whole thing. I called the company that sold the box to me, and they no longer carried even a similar model, I brought it to the hardware store and called other locksmiths with no luck. Often, no one was even willing to look into the job at all. That's where central locksmith comes in. I called them, and they said "no problem, we have a lot of antique keys we can try out, or we can just make you a new one!" Amazing! Someone who still stands by their trade. I went in there and had a consultation. After about 5 minutes of examining, the box was open again! Then, this is the most amazing part- they went into their stash of antique keys, and was able to find a match for the jewelry box lock!!! This was the best experience I've ever had with a locksmith.
