Tried this place again and had an improved experience: PROS: +appreciate the repurposed school building and their chosen decor that is focused on the highlighting the building's history +our server, Bradley, was very pleasant and hardworking +like the Baked White Bean Hummus ($14), which is served warm with hot pita bread triangles +really enjoyed the Greek Goddess Salad ($17), especially the fried olives and crispy checkpeas +love the fries ($3.50), which were a generous portion size and tasted awesome with their natural cut and however they prepare them +the Belgiumnasium 18 Mo Boubon Barrel-Aged Quadrupel ($1 / oz) is dangerously good and one of the best beers I have had CONS: -awkward, tight table spacing placed my wife and I in a table tucked somewhat inside a brick cove of the small room in the northwest part of the building with our neighboring table perpendicularly against our own (and they were tight on their other side to the next table and so forth) -no buffer on the exterior northwest door meant cold air shot through each time someone entered via that door and made things chilly -wife asked for mustard for our fries and then noticed we were charged $1 for the sauce container they provided -they were out of the 1st beer I was interested in (bit it worked out since I loved the 2nd choice I went with) -price point seems a little high for a decent bit of their food options OVERALL We are pescetarian, so that limits our menu options. However, each of the items we ordered had excellent flavor. I would come back again purely for the fries and beer. We got an opportunity to try this place on a Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere is great for a brewery. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the Resin Run West Coast IPA and the nachos. Such a beautiful brewery! I'm not sure when it was renovated, but I love that it was once a gym. Between two schools. Very friendly bartender who shared a bit of the history of this stunning brewery. A large space which makes sense for the events they seem to hold there. I saw a few advertisements near the entrance. I was traveling back home (down south) with my partner and stumbled upon this lovely place. The beer options wasn't large. Which I appreciate because I become overwhelmed and I also know a small draft list means an incredible effort has been placed into making each beer. I love to the unique styles they offer. Went to a concert at this venue and was so impressed. It is a beautiful and cool looking space. The beer and service were incredible. All of the staff were so kind and clearly wanted everyone to have a good time. There were plenty of drink options from mixed drinks, seltzers, and craft beer. I loved the German style Pilsner and the heffe. Wonderfully balanced beers. Even better live music! Would love to come back for another show. read more

We didn't get food due to the menu being in accurate. Says garlic wings with a buffalo sauce but the only had Bbq sauce. The waitress said the cook "Does not like Substituting" which would not have been a substitution, just what was on the menu. The beer flight was nice. We have mixed feelings about our recent visit. While the beer, as always, was fantastic and worth coming back for, the food experience was unfortunately a hit or miss--again. The brisket was absolutely delicious, the mac and cheese creamy and comforting, and the corn dogs were a hit with everyone at the table. However, the kids' meal was disappointing--our toddler was served cold, stale fries, which really put a damper on the experience. We also missed the variety of sauces they used to have on the menu--it was one of the things that made this place stand out for us. That said, we still bring visiting family here for the beer, which never fails to impress. Visit Moontown Brewing Company on a Sunday if you have children, because kids' meals are $2 off on that blessed day. I guess that could account for the number of children and families that I saw when we visited on a Sunday. There were a lot! We got the chili cheese burger, which was an off-menu special. It came out spectacularly messy, like a good chili cheese burger should. However, the burger patty was a little too dry and tough, as though it was made the day before and reheated, then topped with chili. I expected a little more for a special burger, so that was a bummer. I got the pork nachos, which were made with local pork, queso blanco, jalapenos and white onions. The nachos were fine, but needed another element. You have white cheese and white onions and white chips. (And I'm in Whitestown! So much white.) As I was eating my nachos, which were perfectly fine, I kept thinking about what ingredient should be added that would take the nachos from fine to great. Maybe instead of diced white onion, add scallions for some green? Or yellow nacho cheese? Maybe some pico de gallo? I don't want to get into the kitchen and start making menu changes, but if you need me to consult, I am available. My children, who each got a kids' meal, both decided to get a cheeseburger and fries. They both loved their burgers, and said they were the kind of burgers they liked, which are flat patties like smash burgers. I tasted their fries, because I can't help myself, and they were really good. I think next time, I might get a regular burger and fries. I think Moontown is one of those places where you shouldn't overthink things: Just get a basic burger and fries, and you'll be set. read more

So much to say. I ordered wings & they were the smallest wings I've ever seen & weren't good. Lots of garlic. The macaroni was Kraft with extra garlic. This is becoming a bit of a gathering place for us, especially over the past 9 months or so. We visited on Halloween night, since our kid was hosting a gathering at our place, so we made ourselves scarce for a few hours on a "date night." Our server was in costume, which added some additional fun to the festivities. I had their Hefczkowski (Hefewizen), which was incredible, and my date for the evening, had an Ash & Elm hard cider from down in Indianapolis. As always, I appreciate collaboration between local businesses. It does not go unnoticed. For eats, you can't go wrong with the pretzels (from Tell City, Indiana) and their spicy mustard. We are big fans of Moontown and have also attended concerts there in the past. Being in a renovated high school provides a nostalgic feeling and a fun place to gather. read more

Incredible selection of house brews, dark and brooding, clear and refreshing, a menu with ideas executed correctly, I couldn't make up my mind! Sampled their world winning Octoberbest, I found it very similar to the ideal smooth and crispy Sam Adams seasonal beer, tried then went with a growler fill of the lager. Bitter forward rich and complex, cannot quite place the overall notes which is fine, there is plenty to slowly enjoy. Just like this place in the heart of american Midwest, polite staff, beautiful and large bar and main rooms, kid friendly spaces, and there's an outdoor patio as well. We had a large group for an event at Moontown. The staff was awesome and very helpful. I had the steak frites and it was amazing. The building was once the Whitestown school and they kept a lot of the original components. The former gymnasium is a large open space for events and has a clear view of the brewery. Service- Fantastic! Katie was our server, so personable and friendly, and gave solid recommendations! Food- 50/50. Ribs, not much meat, plenty of them, but simply not a ton of meat. Nachos, really wanted to enjoy them, but only had half of them. The chips are normal "out of a bag" chip. The pulled pork and queso were good. The white onions and pickled jalapenos were okay. I feel like if they added bbq sauce instead of queso, they would have been a lot better. The wings were great. Full of flavor, but again, smaller amounts of meat. Katie did let us know the wings were smaller, but full of flavor, she was spot on. The Dank Burger was the highlight for the food. It was excellent and the fries were good too. When we go back, we will all probably get the burger. Two beef patties, grilled perfectly. The pickles on top were excellent too, plenty of crunch to them. Finally, the beer was nice and cold! I've traveled this area a few times and had my eye on Moontown. Gave it a try tonight and it was not disappointed. Was not feeling super hungry so decided on a couple apps. Have they smoked pork nachos which were fantastic. Just a little heavy on the jalapeños. And I also decided to try the pretzel. I love pretzels, but it's not one of my go to, but this was probably one of the better I've ever had. The cheese sauce that came with was also really good and not too thick or runny. I love IPAs and they had a Hazy on tap. I had to give it a try and Cecil did not disappoint. I had an uncle Cecil so it made it easy to decide on this one. I will definitely come back when I'm in town and would like to bring a small group here as well. They also have some outdoor seating, but I decided to sit at the bar area tonight. read more

Moontown Brewing is very cool and spacious which was great for our party of 6. The staff were friendly and helpful and food came within a reasonable time after ordering it. What knocked this down a star for me was the food. It wasn't anything special and their chicken wasn't the best according to my family I went with. I got a Brisket Chili Cheese Burger, it was good but a little dry, I still had to finish it with ranch and that helped a lot. To drink I got a cocktail named "The Dude," pictured here, it was very good and strong! The service and ambiance were great which is why it still gets 4 stars. PS: the Mac n cheese was a hit or miss around our table, I thought it was delicious, others thought it was gross. We think it had some horseradish in it so if you are a fan of the regular smegular Mac n cheese I would hold off. read more

What a fun little spot! Located in an old schoolhouse, Moontown has a welcoming, but spacious vibe throughout. I sat at the bar and received great service. Love this cute local Brewery in downtown Whitestown. There is so much history behind this building that used to be the local high school and even has the original flooring of the gym. They recently changed the menu from last time I was here about 1/2 a year ago. I was disappointed that they no longer serve Brisket or Pulled pork sandwiches. I hope that they bring these staples back as my husband and I loved to come for those. I got the Bama chicken sammy this trip and it was full of flavor and very juicy. This repurposed schoolhouse is a great place to stop and grab a pint on a sunny afternoon. We stopped on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar. Our beer tender was polite and personable and made some good suggestions. We ordered a couple of beers and pretzels with beer cheese and hot mustard. We enjoyed our beer and our pretzels. I saw Moontown on the news this morning and when it came time to think of something to do tonight, it was still on my mind, so we came and we loved it! We came early, and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and accommodating to my husband who wanted to try two beers before making a decision. We started with the smoked wings and shared the bacon and Bleu cheese flatbread. The food was delicious. Now, after looking through other food pics, I want to go back for their weekend specials! They look incredible! We loved the decor and ambiance. Super high ceilings, you can see part of the brewery, if there was a theme, its wood. All of the tables are solid wood. The bar was pretty. I loved the plants and the lighting. Highly recommend. Firstly, I love the history of Moontown Brewing Company; it is such a unique experience to eat and drink in a former high school gymnasium. I think that theme is done really well, and the atmosphere is truly unique in the Indianapolis area. However, depending on which side of Indianapolis you're coming from, Moontown Brewing Company is a bit of a drive, but it is 100% worth it. To start, I ordered the Into the Void, which is a strong, well executed porter. I definitely enjoyed the sweeter notes of the beer. For dinner, I ordered the smoked chicken drumsticks with a side of mac & cheese. It is a terrific value of flavor for the money! The mac & cheese was absolutely superb, and the smoked chicken drumsticks were juicy, fall-off-the-bone perfection. I'm not sure I can go back to normal, fried chicken drumsticks.
