This place is popular. We went there for the first time last Saturday night. They had a huge beer selection! We also ordered a cheese-filled pretzel and onion rings that were delicious. You can sit outside, and the bar is pet-friendly. We returned there on Sunday night, and the place was crowded again. But this time it was 1/2 off all draft beer! Boom! What a deal! They had 2 bartenders on staff, and they were quite slow, so expect a wait. The local next to me at the bar said, "Sunday is the day to come here, otherwise you're just wasting your money." Though the name would make you think it's an authentic German restaurant/bier garten, nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, LoDa is an updated greasy spoon with an impressive number of beers on tap. Unfortunately, half of them are unavailable at any one time. The food is general pub-grub with only a couple of attempts at German food. My dining companions tried the meatloaf sandwich platter while I had the breaded pork tenderloin with potato salad and red cabbage. As someone who spent a summer in Germany, I can attest that this is a miserable attempt at German food. In fact, my friends' meatloaf sandwich tasted as if it had been marinated in pickle juice. That brings me to service, which others have commented on--there is none. The speed is glacial and inattentive. When my friends complained about their food, the waitress got in an argument with them about the percentage they had already eaten (about 1/3). We left and have no plans to return. read more

So the afternoon started by ordering one of my favorite beers, Good People Snake Handler, and quickly discovered they didn't have that. I ordered another beer and all is well in the world. This is when the real fun began. I noticed people around me ordering drinks and continuously being told they were out of this and that. Then upon further investigation learned they got a new bar manager, so that would explain the lack of beer menu items. Then I ordered another beer, don't have it, another beer, don't have it, holy crap. But the killer bartender Nikki helped me out and suggested some great stuff, so back to happy. I noticed that the other bartender, Hunter, stepped up and waited tables and bartended to help out. The food was fantastic as always. The people watching was absolutely phenomenal...between the soccer dads outside getting madder than a hornet that they haven't gotten their Bloody Marys pronto and the random drunk guy trying to buy the bar, I couldn't have had a better time. read more

Great atmosphere! I really wanted to like this place more. The atmosphere was great and I can't overstate this. The service was soso at best. The waitresses at lunch were very clueless and clumsy. Even stating it was way too early to be up (11:30am). Clueless on who ordered what and it wasn't busy at all. We went back for Supper to try again. Same effort from totally different waitresses. Had pizza it was decent but the crust was freezer burnt tasting so it was definitely pre made. With a large selection of beers the food was slightly disappointing. The owners should hopefully rethink their menu quality and not necessarily the menu choices (better ingredients). Perhaps better wait staff too. I will try again at a later date. read more

Good first experience after our first Mardi Gras Parade! Over 100 beers on tap!! Unique burgers including one with a waffle as your bun...I had the Reuben and it was delicious. Food was mediocre at best. Service was what would be expected for a beer pub but the prices were more along the lines of a casual fine dining establishment. I can somewhat understand the $7 pretzel it's kind of a signature item but the over cooked, thumb-sized chicken wings at $1.00 a piece? For desert I was served a 3.25% convenience/transaction fee for using my credit card. I mean really? I just paid you $19 for 9 baby chicken wings, sugar water, and bread. Can you really not swing the 3.25% credit card transaction? As someone that has been in the restaurant business for years, don't nickel and dime your customers. I guess on the positive side I wasn't charged for the styrofoam box and plastic cup that I took with me. Suckers! In all seriousness, if the credit card companies are hurting your bottom dollar then raise prices across the board to lessen the burden. Similarly to what I imagine you've done to account for staff wages, food cost, gas, power, water, paper products, etc. Do you really think charging me $9.29 for chicken wings would matter that much? It's more about the principle than it is the charge. Credit cards are just as convenient for you as they are for the customer. One last thing. Clean the place up a little. I get that you're a beer pub but dust bunnies hanging around all over the place is pretty nasty while you're eating. Needless to say, that'll be the last 3.25% you get from this local. read more

I write this review not as a patron, but a former employee. So as not to slander the people who are still employed there, I will mention that they can only work with the tools that have been provided to them. There are a lot of wonderful (hourly waged) people there, who work very hard to give their patrons the best food and service that they are able to. As far as the beer goes, they've got a great thing going, huge selection. You may have to consult the internet for a list of them though. On the food items, there isn't a single thing that is "authentic" on that menu. Ask them. You may also inquire as to the preparation methods they use for the very few made "in house" items they do offer. The environment is beautiful, and the staff creates a very fun atmosphere for you to enjoy. Make sure you ask about those prices before you order though, you may be unpleasantly surprised there as well. read more

Service was extremely slow, waited 15 minutes before anyone greeted me. I had to keep asking for drink refills. Every beer I asked for was out. Swapped to mixed drinks, very weak. The food wasn't horrible but could have been better. The pretzels bites had a frost bite taste to them. The potato salad was good. I would not bother with the vegetarian burger. read more

Great spot. Beer selection can't be beat - best in town. Although it presents itself as a "bier garden", the food is great for the price and scene. Never had an issue with wait times. Considering it is more or less a bar scene, I'm cognizant of the fact that there is often times a wait. A number of people with negative reviews are astounded that there was a wait... at a bar... Since when did a place that serves food and the cooks ALL have beards (I have nothing against beards, I have a problem with the hairs from beards falling in my food) and don't wear BEARD COVERS/ BEARD GAURDS? Please avoid this place! I went here today with a few friends. The food was terrible and not fresh, and the menu was really small. When a restaurant has a small menu everything should be fresh and delicious. When you charge $9 for a hamburger and it comes with Ruffles chips instead of some good homemade chips or fries, it's disheartening. Nothing tasted fresh. The french fries, that cost $1.75 extra to add to a burger, tasted frozen. The pretzel appetizer I ordered, was frozen and not made in house. With such premium prices I want fresh! I want hand cut french fries, I want homemade pretzels. I don't want someone to go to Walmart and buy frozen and try to sell it to me like it's premium. The best thing about this place is the beer menu, but even they are really overpriced. And you wont know the price until you get your check. Stay away from this place. Bring Hopjacks back! read more

Went in on lunch and placed my order with the bartender who apparently didn't turn in my order with the cook staff. Waited thirty minutes while the gentleman sitting next (ordered at the exact same time as me) to me received his food and then finished it only to have the bartender clean up his plate and then proceed to remember to tell the cook about my order. So last night had plans to see Kevin Hart at Mobile Civic center and taking my daughters out to eat so my oldest says let's go to my new favorite place the Bier Garten... so we get there at bout 5 and are seated quickly upstairs are served water quickly order nachos and drink orders were already an issue girls wanted the paddle beer thing but two of the beers they picked were not available so no big deal one ordered a draft the other wanted a michelobe light but were told they were out ‍I don't drink beer so I ordered a margarita. They bring the draft and Coors light but still no margarita so we ask again about my drink ... Order wings and two burgers... 15 more minutes pass tables that were empty around us filled and people are getting their food ... So we finish nachos and wait more, I'm done at this point and ask for my check for what we have received. As I was trying to pay for my tab a waitress approached our table with guess what?? Yes my margarita, my daughter tells her no we don't want it anymore, waitress gets rude and says " oh you're paying for it!" I'm getting my manager so my daughter says get your manager. As I'm paying my tab the waitress walks up and the manager ask her what happened ... Not me?? The manager then proceeds to tell me we've only been waiting 15 minutes ... Was the worse experience I've ever had anywhere and will never recommend this place to anyone !!!! read more

Interesting Bier Stein collection. Although a "German Bier Gerten," there are only two German dishes: Schnitzel and Bratwurst. They tasted pretty close to authentic though. We had a great time. The beer menu is extensive but our waitress was able to give several suggestions. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was really great. Had dinner here with friends on a recent trip to Mobile for work. It was quite crowded when we arrived so we snagged one of the last tables. The service was decent but not too quick. We had a few different menu items and shared them around the table. The most interesting was the Krispy Kreme Burger with donuts for buns. It was a mix of sweet and salty with a dab of barbecue sauce on top. It was definitely interesting, but very rich. I don't think I could order something like that again. To each his own. read more
