Such a cute little old school ice cream parlor! If it was based on the atmosphere I would give it 5 stars. They have real good deals, I took advantage of the 5 scoops for $3 on Wednesday. I went late at night and they were all out of cones but the ice cream was still good! I really recommend the ice cream that has chocolate and peanut butter, as well as the grapefruit sorbet. Those were my favorite. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I feel like the server wasn't as friendly as she could be. I felt like an inconvenience and like she was getting impatient just because there was another couple behind us. So I felt very rushed to make my decision. Nonetheless I will still keep coming back. Lofty Pursuits recently catered 2 events I attended. This was my first time trying Lofty, after following them and their candy making skills on Facebook. The first time I had a chocolate ice cream with cookies inside of it. It was a very rich chocolate and the cookies tasted fresh (not old and stale). Many of my friends recommended their floats for the second time, but I opted for the Cookie Monster ice cream (it's blue! How could I not). The staff was very friendly, fast, and you could tell they were happy to be there. The Cookie Monster has been my favorite flavor so far. I can't explain how creamy and tasty the ice cream was. You definitely have to come try it out for yourself whenever you have a sweet tooth - you will not be disappointed. read more

I don't typically give places I like or even love five star reviews. This place earned it. My wife and I stopped in for a banana split. We were sharing one. The server told us he was out of bananas. Our hearts both dropped a bit and we were both dejected. Upon noticing this he immediately sprung into action and said "hold on let me see if I can find one!" He bolts out the door leaving us at the counter as he runs across the lot to the neighboring Gordo's. He comes back with a banana. I felt a rush of heat to my chest as I tried to hold back my tears. He continued to make our sundae with the enthusiasm you would expect from a professional. I was touched by this young man's service and effort at such an important moment for me. It was the best banana split I've had in my entire life. It really was delicious. It bet it didn't taste as good as my father's last one. See what this server didn't know was how much this sundae meant to me. My family has a tradition, on a particular day in July we all have sundaes wherever we are to remember my father. His last desert was a special request for a banana split. He died a day later from lung failure. It marked an end of many years of suffering for a man of tremendous love and endurance. This server didn't know what this sundae meant to me but he made an effort as if he did. I told him after the fact and he was blown away. I tipped him well while still trying to hold myself together. I might never have a better banana split or better service. read more

Made a point to stop here as out of towers and were disappointed. Went on a Sunday afternoon for ice cream. There did not appear to be an "adult" in charge - lots of kids working, a few wandering aimlessly while others did the brunt of the work. We ordered our ice cream and the young girl took our order one ice cream at a time and then placed the finished product in the "holding area" until we paid. The problem was, by the time she finished all of our ice cream and we moved to the register to pay, there were 2 groups in front of us. Meanwhile, my ice cream cone sat in the holder, melting. The cashier finally saw us in the back and allowed us to take our ice cream and told us we could pay after we ate. When we finished our treats and walked back over to pay, we had to wait for another period of time to complete our transaction. I hope this was an off day and they usually have a better process in place. Based on our experience, any other ice cream place would be just as good and more efficient. read more

This place is adorable! It's a toy shop up front and a really cute old-style ice-cream parlor in the back. The ice-cream was delicious and they had some unique flavors like champagne, Guinness, and chocolate cayenne (I think that was the name? It was a spicy chocolate flavor that tasted vaguely like meat but also hot.) I had the cake batter ice cream and it was free for my birthday. :) The shop was cute and fun to walk around for a bit while we are our ice-cream. I would definitely go back. Came in after reading good reviewers from fellow yelpers. I came in with my family of four and was immediately impressed with the number of people waiting in line for their dessert orders. I was more impressed by how efficient two people behind the counter were taking orders and preparing them. More orders competed = happy! My wife and I were honestly overwhelmed by the number of sundae/ice cream combinations there were on the menu. We had the budda-bing, with cherry/chocolate ice cream. What topped it off was the choice between regular whipped cream or chocolate whipped cream! C'mon! Live a little bit and get the chocolate whipped cream!!!! You no longer have to worry about fighting for a table or feeling packed into a back corner of the shop! The new Lofty Pursuits offers a full menu of ice creams and candies, as well as the latest addition of a brunch menu every day of the week, not just a Saturday morning. While you sip on one of their floats (my personal favorites) or keep your ice cream cone from dripping all over your white shirt, you can browse the collections of games and toys or watch a batch of new candies being made. I had the chance to make my own candy canes during my last visit, which was not only fun, but the canes tasted better than any other I've ever had! If you end up coming in while the owner Greg is working his magic, prepare yourself to extend your visit by a few hours as you listen to him tell stories about the history of candy making and the special equipment he restored himself. He has a huge Youtube following due to his entertaining personality and story-telling ability, so give those a view online as well. Had brunch here once. My eggs benedict has beer little hollandaise sauce so I requested a little more which they brought in a small pitcher - a tablespoon or so. When I paid the check there was a $3.50 charge for extra hollandaise sauce. I never went back. One star because you can't rate zero stars. read more

The menu is overwhelming, 52 sundaes, plus all the other stuff. For an ice cream shop, that's a good thing. Plenty of flavors to sample. I had the "Up all Night"....coffee ice cream with coffee syrup, a chocolate whipped cream and a nice sprinkling of chocolate covered coffee beans. It was good, but the syrup was all on the bottom , and by the time I got the sundae, the ice cream was partially melted and putting the spoon into the fancy glass sundae cup, and the table was covered with liquid coffee ice cream. This is the cutest soda fountain style shop I've ever seen- not like there are many of those left anymore! I love that the menu is ever changing and guests can borrow board games and sometimes watch the hard candy being made in the back station. The store is always packed and everyone is having a good time with great ice cream! If you had a light dinner or a large party I would highly recommend a banana split- those are gorgeous and a real treat! We got a malt ice cream based split with dinosaur sprinkles added last time we were in. I ordered candy from their website. Christmas and regular image assortments, humbugs, and black currant/nectar drop candies. Shipping takes a little while but I received lots of emails letting me know when, where, etc. so I appreciated that. All of the candy looks and tastes like it was handmade(it is so no surprise there). Flavors are very pronounced and colors are bright. I subscribe to their YouTube channel (which I highly recommend) and it's nice to be able to see and taste the same candy from the videos. These were an absolute joy to eat. All in all I'm very pleased. If I ever make it to Florida I will definitely stop by! read more

I wanted this place to be good, and it certainly has some charming qualities, but tonight the staff killed it for us. The staff leader was condescending and two of her cohorts were generally incompetent. My son's milkshake was more milk than shake, and spilled all over the floor when handed to him. Soda jerk's response? Oh, yeah, that happens. My wife and daughter each tried one of their varied ice cream concoctions, and were happy. Only comment was they could keep their wooden spoons. They're just trying too hard at that point. I ordered the banana split. The shift leader, who was not serving me, loudly interjected that it was really large, cost $13, and most people couldn't finish it which meant she would have to throw it away. She didn't like wasting food, so, unless I was really hungry I shouldn't get it. I should get a sundae instead. What I wish we could have done was walk out, but my family all already had their ice cream. Seriously. Staff issues like these aren't typically developed overnight. All of the 5-star reviews above leave me questioning whether they were plants. Ice cream wasn't even that good. read more

Love the pancakes! Have had several breakfast items and they are all wonderful. Biggest complaint is how long you wait before someone comes to the table. They are standing around talking to each other. We have been many times and only once did they greet us at the table within a few minutes. We have waited 15 mins and had to ask for someone to wait on us. So if you are in a hurry, this probably isn't the best place! Lofty pursuits is the type of place that literally puts on a smile on my face (and a rumble in my tummy lee jones) every time I think about it. The concept is awesome: since it's days at Lake Ella Lofty Pursuits has been a sort of hobby shop with tons of games and gadgets for all walks of life. Somewhere along the road they figured out that they could also produce some of the most delicious ice cream flavors and concoctions east of the Mississippi. They literally had to create a book (it's a menu but it might as well be a book), which includes a flow chart helping you navigate a sea of homemade ice creams and toppings. This in and of itself would have been a dream: you bring the family, there's literally something for everyone, you eat ice cream in this whimsical soda fountain, but no, they had to do the most. Enter left stage breakfy. It seems that there are some mixed reviews on this part but I can tell you that they do breakfast well. It's not too fancy but it's good. I had perfectly scrambled eggs with toast, awesome hash browns, and really good locally milled grits (they don't taste like an artery block, which I do love, but they're good). Husband split the Bananas Foster waffle with my toddler and it was everything a toddler would want in a breakfast: a really solid waffle with caramelized naners on top. They forgot the scoop of ice cream but honestly they couldn't even finish it without the scoop. I love that they locally source a lot of the breakfast awesome and i LOVE that they serve Lucky Goat coffee! Come here and revel in all its nerdy tasty glory with the rest of us. read more

I loved everything about this place. It is officially my favorite thing about Tallahassee so far. From the uniforms of the soda foundation helpers to the yo-yo 'museum' this place is amazing. Good for kids, good for a date, good for an after-dinner dessert or just because! Wide selection of ice cream including a fall special: pumping pie (delicious!) and their junior cones include a sizable single scoop of ice-cream on a waffle cone.
