Going to make this short and sweet. I dropped of my Noveske Ar pistol off Jan 31, 2017 to get cerakoted burnt bronze and finally just picked it up today (March 21, 2017). After almost 2 months the quality of the cerakote isnt the best work I've seen especially being at Lohman facility for that long. I've paid for their services and went back to work only to find out now my AR isnt working properly. The BCG wont return into the forward position after pulling the charging handle. I will not take my firearm back to them just because i don't believe in their services. Very unsatisfied with the services. read more

I live in California where gun laws are very stringent and it is very difficult to find a gunsmith that can do everything in-house. Most gunsmiths here have to outsource at least some of their work and I really wanted to find someone that could do everything I wanted. After eliminating every gunsmith in California, I reached out to Lohman Gunsmith after researching them for about 2 months. (In hindsight the fact that it took more than two weeks to get a response, should have been a red flag) On February 6, 2020 I shipped my Winchester Model 94 Trapper, a large loop lever and a brass loading gate to them. On February 11, 2020 I received an email acknowledging receipt of the items. On February 13, 2020 I got on the phone with Levi and explained to him what I was trying to do. I wanted to have the brass loading gate installed as well as the large loop lever (which converts it from a "Trapper" to a "Wrangler", for those who know). I wanted to color case harden the 2 bands that secure the barrel, magazine tube and the action. As well as Slow Rust Blue Barrel and remaining hardware. Since I was adding the brass loading gate, I thought it would be nice to add more brass highlights so I set out to have the hammer, trigger, magazine tube plug and saddle ring brass plated. When I asked Levi about having this done, he suggested "Straw Bluing" instead. He sent me two pictures of a revolver that they had worked on and had straw blued the hammer and trigger and even included my brass loading gate so that I could see the comparison and what to expect if I chose to straw blue instead of brass plating. I verbally agreed to go with Levi's suggestion while we were on the phone and asked for a written quote. On February 23, 2020 (10 days later) after not having received the quote I had asked for, I emailed and reminded Levi that I was waiting for his quote. This was his reply: "I do have the quote ready; I did not receive a reply from the Straw bluing picture and just figured you were busy." On March 17, 2020 I emailed to see where we were at in the process. This was the response: "Your firearm is just patiently waiting in line as we have several projects ahead of it. Once I get closer to completing these other projects I will have scheduled date to start your project and a ball park figure for when it will be completed." On April 21, 2020 I emailed again to find out what was going on? On April 22, 2020 Levi replied to my email: "We are still here working at the shop daily, your rifle is still in line to be worked on and I plan on sending you an email the day we start working on it, from there I will be able to give you an almost exact time of completion date." On May 5, 2020 I received an email newsletter reminding me that this Covid thing hasn't impacted Lohman Gunsmith at all! In fact, they even had a picture of a Winchester receiver that they claimed to have color case hardened a "couple of days ago", but it wasn't mine. "We are less than 2 weeks on all Gunsmithing and Cerakoting. Give us a call at 832-849-0009 or send us an email at gunsmith@lohmangunsmith.com." After almost another month passed, I began to call instead of email. 3 times I was told that Levi was helping a customer and would call me back. I did not receive a call back. On June 2, 2020 "As for your firearm you were informed via email that we are working towards it to get it completed. I am sorry I do not have an exact date it will be started or completed." So here we are 4 months later. They took my money ($800) and have done absolutely nothing. I was not happy, I emailed and threatened to take them to small claims court. On June 16, 2020 I finally got a response from Brian Lohman himself: "In the last email dated June 2, 2020 we stated we are working on your rifle, and in your reply you said, "I guess I'll wait until you are done, but I want you to know I am very unhappy". NO! NO! NO! I was never informed that they had started! That was a LIE! I was only informed after I threatened to show up personally and bring a small claims suit against them. On September 5, 2020, 7 Months later... I finally got my rifle back. When I did get it back, the straw bluing didn't look anything like the pictures I was given and they had reassembled the rifle incorrectly. The barrel bands were installed backwards and the magazine tube was loose and rattling around. I had to disassemble and reassemble it correctly. See the pictures, they tell the story. The bottom line is; there is no excuse whatsoever, for taking 7 months to do this work. You can't blame COVID after saying you were working two shifts during it. You can't blame the customer and you can't blame the gun. No excuse, period. read more

Short version: These are great people that run a great business and they deserve your patronage. Go to them. Long version: I had two pistols that needed some work. The first was an M&P Shield on which I wanted to change out the existing factory sights with XS big dots. The second was a little more involved. I purchased a used M&P 9 Compact. It seems that the previous owner used super glue (or something) to secure the front sight. I wasn't able to remove it myself, so I took it to Lohman. The gun also needed a serious cleaning. All of the work (1. simple sight change on the shield, 2. super glue sight change on the compact 3. deep cleaning on the compact) were completed within 24 hours. The price was fair. Most importantly the work is great. Especially the cleaning. My used compact looks pretty much brand new. I highly recommend this business. read more

Greetings everyone, I am sharing my complain on this public page so you reconsider your thoughts about doing business with them. I have signed up on their website for purchasing two types of gun powder. I did called them after 12 weeks to follow up my orders & i got the same answer every time which was basically asking to wait patiently until your orders ready !! So Since April 24th 2014 til today July 28th 2015 i didn't received any calls from them & i did not received my package !! What a scam !! There is no shortage on gun powder .The shelves are full in local stores . This people collect credit card numbers God know why !!! Beware. I took my Sig P238 pistol to Lohman Gunsmithing on West Little York on 08/19/22 to have new sights installed. I handed my pistol over to Amber and she took it to the back area. I waited 20 minutes or so and she returned with my pistol. I just glanced at it briefly, put it back in the gun case, paid for the service and went out to my car to leave. Before driving off I took the pistol out of the case to admire the new sights and when I looked down the sights I immediately noticed the front sight was very obviously leaning to the right. It looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's really unbelievable that whoever install it would give it back to a customer like that. It was really sloppy work. I could have done a better job of it myself. So, I immediately went back inside and show the problem to Amber. She took it to the back (I never did see who worked on it). I could hear someone tapping on the sight. After a while she brought it back out. It was almost perfectly straight, but not quite. I did not want to make a big deal about it. I thought that as long as I can shoot accurately with it, I'd live with it. The next day I went to Athena Gun Club pistol range. My shots were all off very badly, which is not usual for me. With the original gun sights I was quite accurate. (The only reason I wanted to replace them is their visibility in daylight was not good.) As I was leaving I noticed Athena Gun Club has gunsmith services, and they had a gunsmith there. He looked at my pistol and agreed that the front sight was still canted to the right. I had another front sight at home so I went home to get it, returned, and had the gunsmith install it. As I was waiting in the lobby he brought the pistol out and showed me that when he removed the front sight it came off in three pieces and showed me that there was a lot of "debris" around the front dovetail. He said whoever installed the sight had damaged it. He also checked the rear sight and said it was off-center. I called Lohman Gunsmithing the next Monday morning. Amber answered. I told her why I was calling. She said Mr. Lohman was on the phone, took my name and phone number and said he would call me back. I never heard back. I called again Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and again today. No one ever answered the phone. After this thing with the sights happened, I checked out the online reviews. I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before I took my pistol to Lohman. There's also a review on the Better Business Bureau web site that's worth reading. Cost of this experience: $60.00 new Ameriglo Tritium sight (plus tax) + $65.00 "gunsmithing" service (if you can call it that) paid to Lohman (plus tax) = $140.36. Learn from my mistake. Take your business elsewhere - preferably to a business that answers their phone. read more

I took my hunting rifle in to get some work done. They replaced the recoil pad, added a Dead Mule recoil reducer and did some trigger work. I wasn't happy with the initial results on the trigger. However, they took it back and worked on it again to get the trigger just right. I am glad that they stood by their work. This makes me willing to go to them again or recommend them to a friend. read more

I brought Lohman a Marlin Guide Gun to have a picatinny rail and ghost ring sights retrofitted. The gunsmiths were professional and personable and their prices reasonable. Notably, they did the job in 20 minutes on the spot while I waited, whereas many other gunsmiths would have held it for 2 weeks before completing the job. If you want your work completed timely and at a fair price, these are your guys. read more

I misassembled my pistol after cleaning and I couldn't clear the issue. I took it to Lohman's and the took it back to check it a few minutes later they brought it back fixed. They were able to clear the problem that I created. I was very impressed with the speed. While it was a simple issue with the right tools, it was still great to my goof up fixed quickly. I had dropped off my Noveske AR15 a couple of weeks ago so they could fix a couple issues I was having after some custom work was done from another shop. The scope of work was: Cerakote complete rifle, optic & suppressor. Fix failure to eject. Sight in Aimpoint and back up sights. I am very impressed with the work performed and now my sbr is functioning flawlessly. Not to mention it looks amazing. The staff was very friendly and polite and addressed all of my needs. The time frame on completion was the quickest I have ever had locally as well. I dropped off another rifle there and can't wait until that one is done. Really happy with the work these guys have done for me on two occasions. During my first visit, they installed an Odin Works Atlas 5 muzzle brake on my AR. They did so during my lunch break while I waited. Got it back with no scratches on the brake or my barrel. On the second occasion, I had them Cerakote the slide on my Springfield Armory XD9 Magpul FDE with contrasting black serrations. I was really happy with the attention to detail and final product. As an added plus, I found that it was a perfect match to my AR's Lower. I'll be back for more work in the future, if needed. read more

Making a decision to send a weapon out of state for repair, rebuild, or restoration is pretty much a big pucker. Here in California, we have armorers, but no smiths. So, I wrote 5 different online gunsmiths from all over the country. I picked Lohman on account that they got back to me right away; no hestitation; no wiggle talk on the project. The reassemble work/ case color hardening was out of the park. Delivery was on time and for the price quoted. I will be back. I had called two other shops around the Cypress area trying to find a place just to stab a barrel onto an AR upper. Lohman was recommended by Ranger Point Precision, and rightfully so. I called ahead to make sure they could do the work, they informed me of the price and that they would be able to do it as soon as I got there. Levi was very prompt and asked the right kind of questions as to how I wanted the install completed. They went above and beyond all with reasonable prices for the services performed in so little time. Review: Not good. To my mistake, I set forth to Lohman's without questioning price reasonability. This gun store is running into the ground, not a single customer in shop and they demanded $40 for something that would take 10 minutes. I purchased my weapon from Payne Brothers in Katy, and after deciding to put a muzzle brake on it I realized I needed a special barrel vice to tighten the thing properly. Payne Brothers will charge half of what Lohman does for the same value. So while I will have to wait another day to go to Payne Brothers as they are busy all week long, on a Saturday morning they ought to be able to "knock it out for me, for $20." Just goes to show, Payne Brothers charges half the price, and their store is PACKED day in day out. Something about running a business is to be learnt here. It's called the utility I receive as a customer. For what they want to charge is not worth it to me, so therefore they earn no money. read more

I took two guns, a rifle and a collector pistol to this shop for some work. The rifle needed to have a muzzle brake removed and collar screwed on, the pistol wasn't feeding rounds properly. After driving across Houston to pick up the equipment, I found that the guy hadn't even ordered the part for the rifle. Not sure why he called me and said they were ready. When I did pick up the rifle, it looked like it had been passed through a hundred greasy hands. No harm, but it told me something that they cant take 30 secs for a quick wipe with some WD40. Picked up the pistol, asked what the problem was and he mumbled something about must have been the bullets. Pistol wasn't repaired, functioned exactly the same as it did. Took it back, says he installed a new extractor this time. Another 400 dollars later and I find it functions exactly the same way. Wouldn't feed the first round. Just stripped the gun down myself. The German factory that manufactured stamped all small parts in these pistols with an "H". The extractor still has the H stamped in it. Spent about an hour doing some research. Ordered a new recoil spring and 14 bucks later the pistol operates perfectly. If this is the best gunsmith in Houston, we are really hurting for gunsmiths in Houston. read more

Brought 2 guns in for work: 1) put on threads for suppressor on a Ruger MKII and 2) inspect newly acquired Winchester 1873 rifle made in 1880s for function/safety. After 6 weeks (that was fine) and hearing nothing I emailed for status and was told my items were ready. Having not heard from them I assumed that all would be well and my Winc. would be ready for action. When I got there, my Ruger was done. However I had to remind them that they owed me back my front site for it. After looking for it, they could not find it. They did however offer to replace it and did send a new one to me a week later but they never should have lost it in the first place. They also apparently do not include a thread protector with the thread work - you would think that an $8 part would be included. As to the Winc., they told me it was not safe to fire as the barrel was rusted and pitted, the chamber was oversized, and the bolt face was also not safe. When I complained that nobody ever called me to tell me any of these things, I got a "deer in the headlights" look. Then asked what could be done about fixing it, they said that the only thing that could be done would be to replace the barrel (costing abt $1200) and bolt. When I asked about re-lining the barrel instead, they said that it could not be done. BullSh_t. Have they never heard of Redmans Rifling & Reboring??? (www.redmansrifling.com) . This is done all the time to Winchesters. After getting the Winc back home, discovered they never even cleaned the barrel or inspected anything else on the rifle. Response to comments: 1) just because the review is 3 months later does not make it any less true; 2) I give you credit for replacing the sight. The problem is that you didn't even know you lost it until I told you it was missing, you also forgot to give me back the ammo I left for you until I asked for that as well; 3) Whether it's called "function/safety" or "diagnostic" is semantics, the point is you were to "check it out to see if it works and can fire and safely function"; 4) true - didn't want cleaning but how can you comment on the condition of the barrel without even running a copper brush/patch through it? - - - that's incompetent; 5) the person that worked on it told me (while you were present) that it was not safe to reline the barrel - that the chamber would not be safe if that was done; 6) you should have called me in advance to discuss what you found rather then just emailing me that the items were ready. That's called good customer service. You should be apologizing for bad service not trying to justify bad service. I had 2 other jobs I was trying to give you. read more

I have a hand me down Mauser 25 semi auto. I made a mistake and disassembled the firearm. A local sales team/reloader tenRING recommended Lohman. So, i took it there. i was hoping to get out for under $350. They offered to cerakote, and assemble. 1/3 down payment and i dropped off the pistol. they said two weeks. well, went to pick it up yesterday. I was blown away. the gun looks brand new. i was so excited, i setup an oak log in my garage to test fire. Please keep in mind, this pistol had over 100 parts when i disassembled, or close to it; there was no way i could have put it back together. Well, the results: fired without flaw. I am 100% impressed with the staff, and service. and i met the mascot 'Bullet'. She is a beautiful lab. Thanks so much for your time, and help, and keep this firearm in my family for years to come. To this day, (Over two years later) I have not received my order nor been informed about the status of my order. I've called and emailed to no avail, just given the run around. here it is 8/6/15 finally get a email stating they have my order and want a new credit card on file, my invoice shows my order paid. I will not give Lohman Arms my business now or ever, if I could give a worse rating I would. I came in from out of town and stopped by their retail store thinking I could stock up on reloading bullets. To my surprise they do not stock these items on their website in the retail store and most all reloading bullets must be pre-ordered and I was told it takes 2 weeks for them to arrive! Took a bolt action rifle in for trigger job and fiberglass barrel - was returned in non operating condition- took it back - they got it working again but no apology - was told trigger was not assembled correctly- not sure if fiberglass done properly - luckily had another rifle with me on hunting trip- would not take any weapon to them read more

Ordered some ammo over a month ago. Not received an email or call, nothing! Emailed them 6 times without a response. Customer service is non existent! Called them on the phone and was put on hold 10 minutes, eventually hung up on me. What a bunch of garbage from any business. Had to call my credit card company to deny payment to them. NEVER will do business with them ever again. Terrible! If they would have responded once to an email I would have been on with the wait, but refusing to notify their customers is unacceptable! read more

When paid up front for a job, he will take your money and do half the work that you paid for. Even so, it's like pulling teeth to get a final disappointing result. I have a Weatherby O/U shotgun that I have enjoyed shooting for many years. It had developed a knack for popping open at the breech one day while shooting trap loads. I employed the services of another gunsmith and was very disappointed with the results. I drive past Lohman Gunsmith almost every day in my present job and finally decided to stop in and discuss the shotgun with the shop owner. There were three LEO standing in the foyer, so I am thinking "if these guys like the work they do, I am all in". Needless to say, the job was completed in a timely manner and the explanation and assurances I was given about the weapon put my mind at ease. Honest, reasonably priced, quality work, stand behind what they do. I do a lot of work on my guns at my home shop, but some things I cannot do, like precision milling of unusually shaped parts. They mounted a short section of Picatinny rail on an old pistol that was made long before the era of micro red dot optics; the job required some very precise milling, drilling, and tapping in small spaces. I knew what I wanted them to do, but they suggested a way to do it even better and stronger, and with my agreement that's what they did. It turned out great. Very happy to recommend them, and will visit them again with any other gun work that I can't do myself. read more

I brought my twisted and mangled glock 19 into the shop and they were able to fix it and even test fired it to make sure it worked! Awesome shop and I will be back again for custom work. I like that they specialize in fixing and modified firearms because I was able to get my pistol fixed without a big line of gun buyers.
