After looking into the restaurant, I was excited to learn that it's owned by the same person behind Jerusalem Café, where I've also had great experiences. As someone who advocates for Palestinian human rights, I try to be intentional about where I spend my money. I don't have any issue with Jewish people--in fact, my own ancestry includes Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, and I'm also Muslim, so I prefer to support halal restaurants whenever I can. My concern is specifically about whether a business supports Zionism or provides financial or public support for the Israeli government. I recognize that being Jewish and being Zionist are not the same thing. I've reached out to the owner several times because I'd rather ask directly than make assumptions. So far, I haven't received a response. Based on the research I've done, I haven't found any public statements or evidence that the restaurant supports either side or financially supports Israel, which I view as a positive sign. However, until I can get clarification, I'm going to put this restaurant on hold. I'm sharing this in the hope that the owners might see it and respond. If your position is one of neutrality, or if you do not support the Israeli government's actions, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing that directly. I simply want to make informed, ethical choices about where I spend my money.
