It is not easy to find Uzbek cuisine in America, espeically in smaller towns like Myrtle Beach. This one is thus a surprising addtion to the international dining experience at the beach. This hidden gem is located on Kings Hwy, with exotic decor inside and many big tables for large group dining. I went there two times during my three-day visit to MB. Tried their Grilled quails, Uzbek bread, Uzbek mushroom soup, and of course, Lamb pilaf. Overall, the seasoning of dishes are not as heavy as most restaurants, but more homemade-style, especially the grilled stuff like that quail and side of veggie. Simple, not salty, but full of the flavor from the ingredients -- the umami of quail meat, the sweetness of peppers, sweet-bitterness of brussels sprouts, etc. The staff told me that his mom cooked the food lol. For other things, the Uzbek bread look like a huge bagel, had very desne texture, but its outside was crispier than bagels. The mushroom soup had a special flavor from possibly some herbs. The Lamb pilaf was delicious and filling: six chuncks of fork-tender meat, lots of perfectly cooked rice soaked in lamb fat, and refreshing carrot slices. I wish there could be yellow carrots as well, but the staff told me that it was difficult to get them in MB. The restaurant undoubtedly did not have a "good" dining vibe for me because it was too quiet. In fact, I was the only customer in the restaurant the second time I visited it. I was told that during tourist seasons the restaurant is packed with ppl but I doubt it. Anyway, it is a restaurant worth trying in MB if you are looking for some special dining experience there. read more

My dad had been dying to eat here, so we took him for Father's Day. The restaurant is unassuming but lovely on the inside. I would recommend making reservations. The servers are nice, and they were helpful in learning about the dishes. Their food takes a lot of time to make, so they may not have everything available on the menu. We started with the pierogies and eggplant caviar. Both appetizers were delicious, and you could tell they were homemade. We love pierogi and thought these were excellent. I was originally going to try a lamb pilaf dish, but they only had one left, so I ordered the borscht. The style they serve is a hot vegetarian variety. It was delicious and very hearty. My son had the beef kabob with rice and fries. The meat was flavorful, as were the sides. The rice has a ton of flavor, and they serve their dishes with a yummy tomato dipping sauce. I hesitate to explain how wonderful our experience was because everyone will invade this place once they find out about this organic, Russian scratch-kitchen where even the sauces are original and prepared on site. Being a native of Myrtle Beach and always looking for fresh vegetables (that someone else has prepared) which is hard to find, is found here at the Caravan Restaurant in the form of a variety of soups and salads and carrots galore. We ordered the carrots which by the way are under the Appetizers, and so glad we did because they were one of the favorites of the meal. As a side dish they fed the two of us and we still had some to take home. It's hard to believe that we got so excited over such a simple dish, but this is what happened with almost everything that came out of the kitchen. It was a bowl of raw, cold carrots finely cut into inch and a half toothpick sized strips and dressed so lightly that it took quite a bit of guessing to figure out only two of the ingredients and we had to ask the waiter (which turned out to be the owner) what the third ingredient was. It was a delightful evening to do that with every dish that we tried. we were definitely adventurous and ordered things we could not even pronounce and so glad that we did because there wasn't anything that didn't exceed our expectations of what we might've gotten at an American restaurant in town and I am a Foodie, which is short for piglet. I need to express the wonderful ambience. It was rare to enjoy the cleanliness, unique music, spaciousness and such attention to detail; add that to the amazing effort and pleasantness of the service of only two wait staff, one of which was the owner, and his mother was the chef in the kitchen. Well, did not expect this in a southern beach town! My husband and really liked our meal. I had an eggplant dish for a starter and he had a salad. Both were very good. The salad was fresh with a light perfect dressing. The vegetables tasted like they just came fresh from market. He had a lamb shank which he immensely enjoyed-the meat was flavorful and tender. We are locals and happened to drive by the other day and saw there was a new restaurant in this spot. We've never had Uzbek food so looked up the menu later to see if we'd like it. We were happy to see they had alot of vegetarian cold and hot dishes. We visited for early dinner with two friends on Friday. We were extremely pleased and loved our experience. The younger gentleman that greater us and was our server was welcoming, kind, and very polite. The restaurant was clean, had comfortable seating, and nice music playing. Having never tried this cuisine before we ordered many dishes for the table to share. We ordered hummus, eggplant caviar, fried potatoes, mushroom soup, borscht, and pieroges. All were stellar. Our favorite was the eggplant caviar and hummus with bread. As a non-vegetarian I tried the samsa. I'm not the biggest fan of lamb but tried this and was surprised I enjoyed it so much. The meat was very tender and the dipping sauce was very nice. For dessert we tried the baklava and medovik. The baklava is not the same as you'd find in a Greek restaurant. This version is more like a savory and slightly sweet strudel. The medovik was beautiful and very tasty. The cook came out several times to make sure we were enjoying our meal which was really nice. This place is a new gem in Myrtle Beach. We had a unique experience with brand new foods. It was wonderful! Every item was delicious and beautifully presented. This place qualifies as a hidden gem. Calling it an Uzbekistan Restaurant doesn't fully describe it. It covers a wide range of dishes from many Soviet Republics as well as western ones, picking up the one of two of the best offerings from each style. Such menu setup is typical for many Uzbek, Georgian, Armenian, Russian etc. restaurants. Expectations going in where the typical "home style kitchen" with "chicken soup like your mother used to make". However the reality was very different. This is not "home style" this is a very high grade restaurant style. Making a salmon steak is hard. This place started with the right cut and took time to cook it properly. I've had a lot of different lula kebab over the years, this place nailed the spices. Their "french fries" did bring "home style" memories, pan fried version is incomparably better than the deep fried and I haven't had one for years, since everyone just fries it. Service is superb. If you are in a hurry go for dumpling or pilaf, those are the basic staples of such places and can be made quick, but if you have time and budget try their higher end stuff it's worth the wait. read more

Decided to give this newly opened restaurant a try and it most definitely did not disappoint! Two things you notice the moment you step through the door...the incredible aroma and the cleanliness! The place is spotless! Tables are adorned with beautiful handmade tablecloths made by the owner's mom and there is a glass display of items from Uzbekistan, giving the restaurant an authentic, traditional feel. Food is freshly made to order and every bite is delicious. Lavash is so good that we have already gone back just to get more to bring home! Samsa is packed with flavorful lamb and onion and is simply spectacular. This is made from scratch so be sure to order yours as soon as you are seated. Order it. Trust me. You will thank me later! Uzbek pilaf has delectable tender pieces of lamb with carrots that add such incredible flavor. Salad is super fresh and the Beef Stroganoff is paired with amazing homemade mashed potatoes (just like Grandma's!). The Lyulya Kebab (beef) is full of flavor and comes with 2 sides of your choosing. And last, but definitely not least, the whole duck with baked green apples and a raspberry sauce served on the side! This was truly exceptional and such a special (and super yummy) meal to share with family. The whole duck was presented table side (I was so caught up in the excitement that I forgot to take a picture!!!) then carved and plated for our enjoyment. The flavor and tenderness of the duck was heavenly and everyone loved it. However, this does need to be ordered a few days in advance so be sure to keep that in mind. The owner Tim is kind, personable, and full of recommendations. His focus is serving fresh and flavorsome Uzbek dishes, most based on his mother's recipes, and ensuring that each and every customer has a wonderful (and delicious) experience. This is a family owned and operated place. It's a quaint interior that smells wonderful immediately. Our server was the sweetest guy. Our food, the pilaf with lamb and the whole chicken was delicious. The avocado salad was fresh and light. The hot green tea had a great flavor. Oh and the marinated mushrooms were just right.
