So disappointed! It has been a while since we've been here, and this used to be one of our favorite places to go for fried chicken. There must have been a change in cooks and/or ownership because this time, the food was nothing like it was before. The food used to be fresh-cooked when ordered, but this clearly was not. I had the Asian citrus salad, and my husband had the Lola classic sandwich. The "signature" breading on my chicken was flat and flavorless, and the meat was desiccated and tough, as though it had been under a heat lamp. I gnawed on a couple of pieces, then gave up and just ate the salad part. At least that was fresh! The sandwich was likewise dry and tough, and the slaw was gooey and unappetizing. There are so many places on Park Street to choose from, but we always go back to Lola's because who can beat their variety of chicken sandwiches in every style?! Lola's has flavor combinations from classic Buffalo and bleu cheese to chipotle bbq or pesto/Mediterranean. There is truly an option to please all palates. This time we opted for the Cabo Chicken Sandwich (chicken tenders, chipotle mayo, bbq sauce, bacon, cheddar, red onion, lettuce) and the Chicken and Waffles Sandwich (tenders, bacon, lettuce, tomato on a cheddar, bacon and green onion savory waffle + maple mustard sauce). Although both sandwiches are well-balanced in terms of flavors, the waffle was our favorite. The soft waffle pairs nicely with the crispy chicken and the ratio of bread/sauce/toppings is better on the waffle compared to the other sandwich bread, which can get hard and assault the roof of your mouth. Finally, I tried Lola's again after a long while. Learned that they had been in Alameda prior to the 70's, then returned again in the 2010s. They only use and make fried/battered chicken tenders here (where you can order by themselves, or have them in waffle sandwich, salad, etc). Ordered the Asian chicken salad with original fried tenders, with a separate side of garlic fries for lunch. Chicken was tender and moist inside with a nice crunch outside. The salad came with a poppy seed dressing, which paired well with the mixed greens, mandarin oranges, and crunchy noodles. Garlic fries were freshly fried and tossed in seasoned oil infused with minced garlic. Very reasonable pricing, too. Great for families or friends spending time in the area or for the local after-school kids to get a bite to eat. Salad was about $12, and garlic fries about $4. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service on April 18th, 2024 around 2:30pm, I didn't get the woman's name so the time stamp should help you figure out who was working that shift. I've been going to this place since 2015 and never had an issue until today. I went to take my sister to try it and the first thing that was said to us was " I don't speak Spanish" . My sister replied "we don't either" and she said she was going to get somebody and then asked were we looking for a job . I don't usually take time out of my day to attend to nonsense but I feel like it needs to be brought attention because nobody should have to deal with that while trying to order some food. I have been a regular for a very long time but last 3 times it's been not so great! This is a solid restaurant if you don't want to make chicken at home. However, I would caution that it is honestly not that much better than just making chicken tenders at home or making a chicken sandwich at home. Terrible Experience! New Owners! I went in for lunch with my husband and sister. My sister ordered her food, then my husband and I each ordered our meals. To start the house made lemonade was rancid. Then my sister and I got our orders but my husbands order never came. I asked the cashier Steven, where his food was and he tells me we never ordered it and then just stares at me. In my opinion it is obvious that 3 people would order 3 different entrees, or at least that the cashier should confirm. He didn't offer any solutions or apologies. So then I ask him if I can get the other burger for which he tells me, "You have to pay for it." Fine, I'll pay, but I did expect some type of customer service other than his blank stare. Once we all had our food, my sisters Pesto B had a hair in it! The garlic fries had a huge scoop of pre-packaged garlic on top that weren't even hot. My mushroom and Swiss burger was decent and the Lola's Classic burger was good. I called the restaurant the next day to speak to a manager but no one knew how to connect me to one. I was given the cell phone number of "Rog" who I was told was the owner. That phone call went worse than the dining experience. He answered the phone and all I could hear was gibberish as if he was talking to someone else. I stated I was a customer at Lola's and that person hung up. Service and staff are terrible, the cook and the servers were talking smack about me all because I was given a bacon mac and cheese that had, and I count, six small tiny freckles of "bacon" in it. Looked like grains of sand. And a soggy chicken sandwich that had one thin strip of floppy bacon on it. The first time I ever haed either item served that way. I asked nicely if it was possible to get more bacon on the mac, and they agreed. And then, because I worked up the nerve due to coming here for years and knowing they usually had never served the sandwich like that, asked if it was possible for a bit more bacon and mayo, and no worries if not. Cue the server snarling like "Um, alright???", and hearing the server and the cook loudly talking smack about the request I made, and going on and on about it for maybe six minutes. I did get the food, and the chicken was soggy but at least everything else actually was decent. But the service was unneccesary. Hope they didn't do anything else to my food out of some egotistical spite, but that definitely made me not want to come back. The mac and cheese also is more like a shells carbonara, it has basically none of the components to be a macaroni and cheese. Sooooo GOOOD! I work down the block at Tuckers Ice cream and Lolas is definitely my go-to for lunch. My favorite is their Cesar salad classic. This is one of my favorite chicken spots. They have so many sauces to choose from! And, the sides are delicious too. All white meat chicken tenders, very crispy, and juicy. The staff are super friendly and my kids love going here. Mind you they are picky eaters. My daughter became a Mac and cheese lover after having their white Mac and cheese. Location is perfect for strolling after your meal, and super close to the beach. Food can be ordered over the phone and picked up Togo. Pre-Covid-19, they offered indoor seating with ample indoor space. Bathrooms were always clean during our visits, and they had a self serve soda, lemonade, and water dispenser (that way you don't need to ask for help). I also loved the timeliness. Orders are completed and served with amazing speed. Never waiting longer than 20 or 30 mins for our meals (even with a party of 10+, and a busy dinning room). read more

My partner and I had the worst and most bizarre experience at Lola's, and I was treated extremely disrespectfully by the owner. On April 14th, my partner ordered chicken tenders, but all of them were burned. They were visibly burned, tasted burned, and had a rubbery texture. When my partner approached an employee to get new ones that weren't burnt, even the employee agreed they looked burnt, so she offered my partner new chicken tenders. The ones the employee brought out were still burnt, so my partner said she didn't want to try those. The employee kept telling her to, and at one point, touched the chicken tenders without gloves to show us the inside. The employee even tried the chicken tenders that she had brought out for my partner. The employee mentioned that the oil is supposed to be changed every day, but the oil that day was old because it hadn't been changed the night before.  The employee told my partner and me to call the following day to get in touch with the owner, which is what I did. However, the owner had already left. When I called the next day, the owner had already left. An employee wrote down my name and number, and the owner called me. The phone call I had with the owner was beyond unprofessional and rude. She didn't listen to what I had to say, kept interrupting me, and didn't offer me an apology or a refund. She gaslighted me into thinking my partner and I didn't know what we were talking about. Then she wanted me to come in and talk about this, and I asked why it couldn't be settled over the phone, but she wouldn't give me an answer. I reluctantly agreed to and assumed it would be within the next few days, but no, she said the 25th. I asked around 12 PM, and she said no, but then said 1 PM. I agreed, but on the day I was supposed to go in, I got called in to work, and I sent her a test message. Instead of responding to me or calling me, she left me on read. This was highly upsetting because, years ago, I would go to Lola's frequently and had never had an experience like this. read more

I've only came here once to pick up lunch for my mom because she swears by this place. She loves their chicken! It's on a main st, so parking is limited. It was very low key and small inside. After enjoying a fun afternoon paddleboarding around Alameda beach, I was in the mood for fried chicken. I looked up some raving reviews here and decided to pop in. Parking is tricky as it's right off the busy downtown Park st, but a few blocks over is a parking structure. Once inside, I was warmly greeted by the staff. Everyone was so friendly! My chicken tenders were the bomb! So tender, packed with flavor, plenty of chicken, and paired perfectly with ranch. The three-tender + 1 side combo was plenty filling. My only complaint was that the flamethrower chicken sandwich wasn't even remotely spicy. Maybe the jalapenos were a dud this time? The buffalo chicken wrap was pretty good. The chicken was pretty thick but tender. There was a lot of hot sauce in the wrap.. there was also raw onion and lettuce. The veggie sandwich was just okay. The bread wasn't toasted and tough. The veggie patty was like lukewarm and didn't have much going for it. It was actually pretty bad how the cheese didn't really melt on the veggie patty. I wouldn't get this sandwich again as it didn't have much flavor. I think the best part about the meal was the garlic fries. The fries were fresh, crunchy and had a good amount of garlic. I hope to try other items on their menu since they have a large one. The food took a while to get to us and there weren't any water cups around - I guess you had to ask for them but the cashiers were pretty busy. LOVE their food! Their chipotle mayo is the only sauce that is reminiscent of a sauce I had at a taco shop I frequently went to in the OC (Cali Tacos) so I am already here for it! Chicken is juicy and the breading is light but still really good. And the mac n' cheese topped with chicken -- perfection. This definitely seems like the place where local Alameda teens hang and work because every time I'm here the young staff and patrons are always creating a lively atmosphere -- very much feels sitting in on a TeenNick or Disney Channel show and I support it. read more

I heard the original owners sold Lolas about a year ago. The new owners changed everything I loved about this place. The chicken was dry and they changed the breading. The sauces were not as good as the used to be. It took over 30mins for 3 tenders and fries.
