I haven't been to this place in more than 10 years. I stopped by with my son on the way to drop off dinner for my husband at his job. The meters in front of the establishment are the old janky ones, not the pay station. I remembered this place having a steam table and I did not pay for parking thinking I'd be in and out in a jiffy. I was sorely mistaken! The place does not take cash and also does not carry coins since a lot of establishments are doing only cards or tap pay. I was unable to procure any coins so that was on me, but just keep that in mind. It took almost 40 minutes to get our food. I highly regretted coming picking this place based on distant memories. It doesn't have Peking duck like it used to nor does it have quick, in-and-out service. There was as only one person in front of me so I figured it would be quick. I was mistaken as several pickup orders had accumulated on their DoorDash orders. It seemed those were prioritized. Even still, there were three other patrons who came after me and got their food before me. I only ordered two things and a boba tea! It should not have taken that long, but again, I was mistaken. I would not come back to this place unless I was picking up a to-go order and called it in at least 30/40 minutes ahead of time. Bring exact change/coins and be careful before 6pm since that's when meter maids are the most aggressively giving out tickets. The place looks dingy and uninviting inside. I would suggest the cashier/server be more proactive in sharing an estimated time for people to receive their food and how many orders are ahead of them, overall acknowledging patrons more diligently and directly. read more

Great value! You definitely get what you paid for and more. My meal definitely left me with leftovers. Now unfortunately those bargains cost you a couple things. On my way to the restroom I've never seen such dusty water barrels in my life. I was quite disgusted. And the demeanors of the employees did not uplift my mood one bit. This is our go to local Chinese restaurant. They are reasonable and reliably good for the dishes we typically order. Chicken and Salted Fish Fried Rice, Salt and Pepper Chicken, and Chow Fun. The fried rice is consistently good, the salt and pepper chicken is always good, and the chow fun is just the right amount of greasy. The restaurant itself is very basic and I don't normally see people eat there. We always get our food to go or have it delivered. When we pick up our food they are always polite and quick to provide our food which has always been ready to go. We frequent this restaurant often and will continue to do so. read more

This restaurant is my family's go-to for Chinese food. Good food at good prices! The only problem is the parking is kind of bad.

They are not very good customer service. The young man who helps in the front is rude and does not greet their customer or acknowledge your presence. It's like we are bothering him. Most importantly im writing because you have to be aware of the pricing because the price they have online is not the same they charge. The Google pricing is not updated and tell you the paper menu is the newer one. They will not honor the online price and they rather lose a long customer instead then admit they are wrong. Ordered takeout for Christmas Day and was pleasantly surprised to find an authentic mom and pop shop!! we ordered fried rice, chow mein, beef and broccoli, and lastly sweet and sour pork. It was about 60$ and we had enough for 3 people eat and to have left overs. They were quick even with the Christmas rush and very communicative about the order and wait time. King Kong BBQ Restaurant serves up authentic Chinese foods that are delicious and in good portions. Strong points include: good food, good portions, and they do their own deliveries. I can't find anything negative to say about my experience. On a Saturday, I ordered Wor Won Ton Soup, Fried Prawns, and Mu Shu Pork. Good Food, Grade (5/5). I'm 3rd Generation ABC, and this food is the way traditional chinese food is supposed to taste! The Wor Won Soup was excellent with plump dumplings, bok choy, bbq pork strips and tender chicken. The Fried Prawns were plump and moist. The Mu Shu Pork was a generous serving, seasoned well and not salty. Another key point is the prices are reasonable. The Wor Won Ton Soup is under $10, and that container was packed. I scheduled this delivery thru GrubHub. Since the restaurant does it's own delivery, there's no extra delivery fees. I setup my delivery for 4pm, and it arrived early. Good food, and I will order again! read more

Got an order of Salt and pepper chicken with steam rice which came with one egg roll. Upon opening my bag, I was given a great disappointment because there was no sauce and no utensils. How was I going to eat this meal? Luckily there was a spare plastic fork lying on my work desk. Now it's time to chow down on the meal. The presentation of the plate looks ok and those salt and pepper chickens are making me hungry just from looking at them. Before even trying the rice, I grabbed the egg roll and gave it a bite. The egg roll was all mushy and had no crunch almost like it had been sitting for a very long time waiting in the microwave. Let's talk about the chicken. The peppers were not spicy, chicken was flavorless and dry, and the outer skin was not crunchy, but rather hard to bite down. The hardness of the chicken is either fried for too long or the chicken had to be refried. After talking for a while on the main dish, let's move on to the rice. The rice was indeed warm, but there were some undercooked rice mixed in making the rice inedible due to its hardness. The meal wasn't a perfect experience, but some points have to give to the quantity of the plate because the portion will leave your belly full. Make sure to have a bottle of water next to you and some sauce if you have plans to order this dish. read more

3.5 stars; The salt and pepper pork chops are bomb though!! Crab rangoons are alright. Lacked in fillings and lacked a bit on taste, however, it's not that bad. I didn't mind it but it's not on the top of my list. Mayo shrimp had little batter and the sauce was really light in flavor, I couldn't even taste the mayo much. I wasn't a fan of their candied walnut. But what sauce they had on their was decent. I added sriracha and it was good. (I never usually do that to my mayo shrimp though.) The fried crispy noodles was meh, I didn't like the beef they used. The best part of this dish was the bok choy to me. Overall, I would definitely order from here again because I'm a huge fan of their salt and pepper pork chops. The mayo shrimp is okay, and I'll probably try some other stuff out. I got some food to go for the first time from this restaurant. I decided to go all vegetarian and got sweet-and-sour tofu, Chinese, broccoli, with garlic, and garlic noodles. I was very pleased with everything. I wish I would have taken pictures. I have been craving sweet and sour for a long time, but did not want to get pork. The tofu was delectable and hit the spot. Ordered takeout again. It had been one of the more reliable Chinese eateries when I was too lazy to cook (which condition or affliction seems to occur more frequently). Tried some new dishes. The spicy chicken wings stood out, and I don't usually partake (but the fam loves wings so. . . .). Other dishes okay. I had requested low salt/sodium as to every dish. As to most dishes, these were not salty and we could actually taste the food. But, the Mongolian beef was a salt bomb. Impossible to eat. And it was the one dish I ordered for me (oh, woe is me). Not sure why so many restaurants are making dishes that are toxically loaded with sodium now, but this was ridiculous. Could not even feed it to our dog, it was so salty. Reached out to restaurant and to Uber Eats. Both elected not to respond. (Not sure what I wanted, but a refund or future credit -- or perhaps a promise to pay for a year's worth of blood pressure medicine -- would have been okay as I received something I specifically stated when ordering I did not want, salty food). They both acknowledged my message, but then nothing. Over-salted food is more commonplace. I suspect that people just do not know how to cook and/or they are hiding bad (rotten) meat/ingredients with all that salt. So, while the portions from King Kong BBQ are good, the toxically salty Mongolian beef sucks. Literally, it sucks all the water out of whoever eats it. Bad customer service. Toxic food. I've been to the taco bell next to this place a million times but decided to try King Kong out. I ordered online, which I kinda regret. They have a lunch special for about $11 you get a plate with a drink which is cheaper than what I got. I ordered the prawn chow mein, chicken chow mein, and an order of their bbq pork. Both of the chow mein's were pretty good, they give you a large portion but it did lack meat. There was meat in there but it was sparse. On the other hand, the bbq pork was filled to the top. This is going to be my forever favorite of Chinese food for takeout. I ordered delivery through yelp/grub hub on a Saturday night at 8pm, was given a time estimate of an hour-hour and a half which is usually correct with delivery from places like this. My food was at my door at 8:35 on the dot, which first off not only blew me away but also made my extremely and pleasantly surprised. I have never EVER had food get here that fast when it was made by a restaurant before. Now onto the food: I ordered Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken (no veggies or fruit), chicken fried rice, crab wontons and chicken chow mein. I was given complimentary egg rolls because my purchase was over $40. Mongolian beef: 4/5, my boyfriend really enjoyed it, it was spicy but not overly spicy and had plenty of beef and onions, which is what Mongolian beef is. They were heavy on sauce, but that's a personal preference of his. Chicken fried rice: 3/5 it was good, the chicken was plentiful but the flavor was definitely lacking. Spy sauce and sesame oil would have done a lot for this rice. Chicken chow mein: 4/5 the flavor on this was lacking also, but it had a little more seasoning then the fried rice. It was cooked well and had lots of chicken too, so I can't complain. Overall I liked it a lot. Sweet and sour chicken: 5/5 I loved this! I grew up on that all-American, real sweet and sour chicken that you would get from a Safeway deli or a Chinese buffet. This is exactly what I got and I was super excited. The sauce wasn't extra thick but there was a god amount and it didn't give me that gross 'I ate to much sugar/oils' feeling. Egg rolls: 5/5 holy f*ck. Let's get one thing clear, I hate egg rolls. Always have, despised the crap out of them and how they tasted. I bit into one just to try it since it was free, and I've never tasted something so amazing in my life. Of course, it's just a basic egg roll, but it was amazing, and I'm so very excited. So all in all, I loved this place. I've eaten a lot of American Chinese, and this will be my number once place above all other place in Oakland, I'd wait 2 hours for this food if that's what it requires. Plus, they gave me cute little packages with the menu, utensils, fortune cookies and sauces in bags. Everything was light and fresh, the veggies were perfectly cooked- and all three dishes were loaded and delicious! I usually order delivery from King Kong -- and have never had a problem with the drivers who come right to my front door. The menu has a wide array of options - my favorites are the salt & pepper tofu (extra jalapeños and garlic, please!) which is perfectly golden, crispy on the outside and tender inside. It doesn't taste fishy like other neighborhood Chinese restaurants -- so hoping that means they just keep fresh oil or the fish are fried separately. The garlic broccoli, dry fried string beans and other veggies are pretty tasty. I get the mu shu veggie (no egg!) and it comes with a generous pile of rice wrappers. The veggie meat analog dishes are hit or miss - the chicken-analog are strange spheres like they were scooped with a melon baller (not a fan of the kung pao - too much celery). The veggie beef is pretty good though - get it spicy (no celery!). They cook without MSG - and the kitchen while spartan - seems clean and the folks are all pretty nice thought the dining area is a bit shabby. They seem to have a buffet during the day but I've never been there to see it! read more

I ordered 4 dishes - one of which is the soup. My wife described it as vegetables and chicken with boiling water - I tasted it, and it was awful. Second, beef chowfun - my advise to the chef, please try to at least eat at other Chinese restaurants to understand what chowfun should taste like, I really beg you. Believe it or not, there are not that many good Chinese restaurants in my area despite living in a very metropolis spot. I may have high standards, but hey, why not? I'm too old to settle. So, I was pleased to see that this place delivered to me despite being in Oakland. The food is fresh and yummy, and there are free offerings if you spend a certain amount. The veggies are crunchy and fresh, and the food was really good. I got the salt and pepper fish, pork fried rice, garlic green beans, and general's chicken. The only negative comment I have is that there was a waxy skin on the green beans that was not very pleasant chewing on as I was trying to swallow. But, it wasn't that bad. read more
