The service can be a little slow, just because it's only one person working, but he's pretty quick and attentive. They get quite a lot of to-go orders, since their location is quite small, but it's a nice little restaurant to get their lunch menu special! I really missed the old Monkey Thai at Southshore but noticed this place seemed to be related or at least similar to how it once was. Definitely did not disappoint in the quality and variety of food available here. One thing I missed was the fact of how well rounded the variety of ingredients in each entrees were and this place gives the exact same quality if not better. From other Thai places I have tried in the past the quality of the curry, noodle, rice, and special entrees were all over the place but this specific Thai places has my trust in across the board goodness. As a pescatarian and vegetable appreciator, this Thai place specifically will be in my tops due to the good variety of vegetables they include in their dishes while other places have more limited vegetables included in the entrees (i.e. one or two mediocre basic vegetables) which in my personal opinion makes the dish less interesting and less complete feeling. In addition, I was super pleased and thankful for the combo menu which was the PERFECT choice for me and my friends since we all wanted something a little different but having the bonus of an individual sized appetizer and regular drink is something I am always appreciative at restaurants since many people love variety for a more complete feeling meal experience. The guy who was working here just seem like he was rushing us, yes we did come 8 PM (they close at 9) he gave us until 8:30 PM to order, but as I asked him about questions on items on the menu, dude straight up ignored it bc of him being busy but it was only 2 tables when I walked in... but anyways, the quality of the food was meh, no need to say what was ok & what need improvement they all did. Monkey Thai has two locations. This location is on the West End of Alameda and their other location is on the East End at South Shore Center. I like going to Monkey Thai for their lunch specials. With their lunch specials, you can select an appetizer with your rice and entree. I prefer the West End location since their lunch special is around $5 cheaper than the South Shore Center. They have their own parking lot, so parking is not an issue. I ordered the green curry with brown rice and selected the fresh spring roll as my appetizer from the lunch special menu. The green curry was flavorful and spicy when I asked them to make it spicy. At some places, you ask for spicy, and it's not, which is a letdown. The only disappointing thing about my meal is the fresh spring roll. I was expecting something flavorful, like Vietnamese spring rolls. These rolls taste bland, and all you taste is lettuce and noodles. The dipping sauce is Thai-style peanut sauce, unlike Vietnamese peanut sauce, which has hoisin sauce. I used to love the food here, even when they initially changed ownership/name from Monkey Thai to Tamee Thai. But the last few times I've been here, they made changes to my favorite dish Pad Kee Mow (drunken noodles). The flavor is a little different but the most important thing is that they changed the type of noodle they use! It's still a "flat wide" noodle but NOT the very wide noodles as before and in old pics on here. I do love the option to make a combination meal and I'll still come here for the convenience. My wife ordered Chicke w/ Basil and Rice, Chicken Wings, and Drunken Noodles. On my way out I went to the to-go station to grab some items. And after I had grabbed some items, the gentleman who was working at 2.45pm. Loudly and rudely chastized me and claimed that I was only allowed to take "enough items for the food" and that I had "already taken too many items." People that spend money in an establishment don't expect to be disrespected after they spend money in your establishment. And a box of utensils (chopsticks, forks, spoons)cost $30. Wowza!! Delicious I ordered the Chicken Satay appetizer and the Penang Curry with chicken. Excellent. Satay came with not only a perfect peanut sauce, but a sweet chili sauce that added an extra pizazz. Chicken was seasoned well with a a little crisp, but not over cooked and dried out. I got the Tom yum soup with seafood and it was so good. It had big pieces of scallop, breaded fish, shrimp, and mussels. It had plenty of herbs, garnishes, and seasonings too which made it incredibly fragrant and flavorful. When you order this, keep in mind it doesn't come with rice so you have to pay extra for that. This portion is huge enough for two people too. The workers here were very friendly and the restaurant itself is very clean. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and got seated right away. Checked in on Yelp and was able to redeem a free Thai iced tea; you check in, you can also choose a complimentary beer or glass of wine. We were also given complimentary salad, which had a really good dressing on it. Ordered Pad Thai with prawns, which had a lot of big shrimps and the noodles were doused in a heavy, delicious sauce. It was a tad sweet but it tasted very similar to Chinese Dry Chow Fun. Pineapple fried rice - looked really oily, and lacked flavor. Good amount of shrimp, chicken and pineapple though. Pineapple curry with beef - I asked for fish but they gave me beef. Beef tasted good, not chewy. Curry was a medium spicy. My regrets for not telling them no spicy as that's an option. Rice for my curry was dry. Overall I think this place was ok, I wouldn't specially make the trip. It could be a bit more flavorful in certain areas. Haven't been in , in a while because I've been doing the stupid keto thing. But have been dying for some Thai food. So stopped in tonight and picked up some Tom yum soup with duck. Perfect keto option!!! And it was delicious and filling! It was also happy hour so had a $4 glass of wine while I was waiting. We walked-in and was able to seat ourselves. The waitress that helped us that day was very attentive and quick to take our order. The rundown: Spring rolls - Thick, fat, and tasty. Can't really complain about the rolls. They were yummy and the peanut sauce just made it 100x better! Crispy Chicken Wonton - YES! Hot, crispy, and oh so tasty. The sweet and sour sauce just made it so addicting to eat. 100% must get. Tom Yum with chicken - Good but was missing something... I should have ordered rice on the side because it needed some time of starch. I thought it was going to come with noodles but it didn't. I must have read the menu wrong haha. Red curry with chicken - My friend mentioned that the portion was huge and it was!! Haha. She barely made a dent in her food but partially because we were already munching on the appetizers more lol. I called in my order at 11:45 for an order of Pad See Ew with tofu. The person on the phone quoted me 10 minutes, which was much faster than I anticipated. I ran a bit late, but upon arrival my food was hot and ready. I grabbed some sambal and chopsticks, paid, and returned to the office. Upon opening the package, I was surprised how much they packed into the to-go container. I ate about half before I realized I forgot to take a picture, but even that half looks substantial. Overall the food was standard fare, tasty, and satisfying. I appreciated that there was good coverage of sauce on the noodles, tofu, and veggies. Generally, I always struggle with whether I like fried tofu or prefer it uncooked--I may ask for uncooked next time for a different texture. Stopped here after dropping off some artwork at Michaan's Auction house. It seems like the locals love it here because it was busy enough to know it's good but still had indoor seating available. It was my first time trying the restaurant and I'm definitely a fan. Papaya salad lao style with medium spice was so good, perfect spice, could maybe go one notch higher next time if I'm feeling courageous. I had already taken a few bites of my Tom Yum Soup when I noticed a bug floating at the top of the soup. I thought it might have been seasoning at first so I pulled it out and put it on the napkin. Came here after the antique market nearby. We were craving some pad thai, so we waited until they were open at 12. There were already some others waiting too, so we knew it was going to be a good place. We had 2 pad Thais and a Thai tea. The Thai tea was on the sweeter side which isn't our preference, but was still so good! The pad Thai came out FRESH and was so delicious. I used the lime because I prefer a more sweet citrus flavor, but it was perfect for my partner. This was one of our favorite pad Thai places that we've tried.
